Guest Reviews
- Sam (9/5): The deliscious homemade pies and hearty breakfast would have me coming back here in a heartbeat! - Amazing little place, exceptional food all staff were friendly, welcoming and professional. We had the twin room which was very clean a little basic, but everything we needed.
- Carl (9/5): Would stay again. - Clean, comfortable stay in a great location. Couldn't order a flat white with breakfast until after 12:30 and went to a local coffee shop instead.
- Katherine (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyable - I will bring my wife next time. - Breakfast was excellent. It was well cooked and there was plenty of it. Nothing
- Richard (8/5): Very good - Everything. Just tea in the room, no coffee or hot chocolate.
- Nell Durand (10/5): - The location is beautiful and so close to Wast Water Lake which was so convenient.
The grounds were so pretty and the view out of our bedroom's window was lovely.
The bedrooms are nice and simple. It was clean and the bed was really comfortable.
We ate in the restaurant for dinner and had the breakfast. Both meals were lovely and everyone that we were served by during our stay was lovely. You can hear others in their rooms occasionally. It didn't bother us personally as it wasn't intrusive but I can see that some people wouldn't find it ideal.
- Joe (10/5): Fantastic as always -
- Arno (8/5): -
- Andy (9/5): Awesome location and very welcoming. - Lovely setting, fabulous food in their restaurant. Quite popular. A little noisy for me late evening when wanting to sleep.
- Charlotte (10/5): Thank you for making me feel safe and welcome - The staff are very welcoming and kind. Instead of breakfast they made a pack lunch to take on my hike as I left early and it was delicious
- Marta (9/5): - The staff went beyond and above to get us comfortable and meet our needs. The breakfast was excellent.

The rooms are very clean and perfect for what we needed we will certainly be staying again soon. Nothing
- Peter (9/5): Comfortable and cosy hotel in beautiful location. - Beautiful hotel in a lovely location. The room was clean and cosy, the staff were friendly and the food was excellent.
- Ofir (7/5): Good Food, Terrible Room - he food was genuinely good — fresh, tasty, and well-served The room was tiny, not clean enough, and the sound insulation was awful — every noise from the hallway and neighboring rooms came straight through, making it nearly impossible to sleep properly.

- Donna (10/5): Great place, lovely team. We'll be back. - Breakfast and dinner were great. The Bower House team were all really lovely. It felt like being welcomed at our own local. Even offered us a packed lunch when we mentioned we needed to check out before breakfast. Great location for climbing Scarfell from Wasdale. We will return.
- gunnerreg (8/5): A Lovely Lakes Stay with Great Food - The Bower House Inn is a lovely traditional Lake District Pub/Hotel located in a beautiful location. It has lots of character. The pub is bustling and has a good variety of food and drink. The food is excellent at the Inn and both breakfast and dinner were delicious and plentiful. The bed in the room was comfortable. The room we had (Buttermere) was clean but in need of a refresh as it was dreary and marked, and not that inviting. A room where you walk in and say 'Oh, that's ok' with a disappointed tone!
- Andy (10/5): - Great staff, food and atmosphere
- Paul (9/5): -
- Lisa (10/5): Fabulous friendly little hotel. - We had a fantastic stay in this beautiful rural location, just a short distance from Scafell Pike with plenty of lovely walks nearby. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and very well presented.
We brought our golden retriever along, and he absolutely loved the large outdoor space—it was perfect for him to explore.
The food in the restaurant was excellent and very reasonably priced, and breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious.
What really made our stay special was the staff—everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout.
We would definitely stay here again when we return to the area. Nothing. We can’t fault it.
- Radoslava (7/5): Short and sweet - It was in the middle of nowhere! View from the room.

- Funkylynne (10/5): - Everything was absolutely fabulous.
Food was excellent, service was excellent as well.
- Bruce (9/5): Lower house inn stay - The staff were all very helpful and friendly, the food was all very good and the room we stayed in was the great gable, so named because the it had the original gable end left in as a feature. My only dislike was I felt the bed was a bit soft for my liking, other than that no complaints.
- Charlotte (8/5): Gorgeous location, good food and lovely staff - Cosy and friendly atmosphere and original features were lovely The room felt a little dated and the bed frame was made of material and was dirty

And a bath was a bonus for a soak after climbing Ben Nevis that afternoon.
Would definitely stay again. Room a bit dated but comfy.

- Eccleston (9/5): - Staff were friendly and polite, bedroom was spotless and good value for money with everything u need for your stay. Inconsistent water pressure in taps.
- potts (8/5): Perfect base for the Eskdale hills - The bar area was lively and busy on both nights, made to feel welcome and a great choice of beers and food. Atmosphere was very friendly and the bar was full of regulars which is always a good sign. Enjoyed both my evening meals, had a Japanese dish and a lasagne but the choice was really good for all tastes, reasonably priced too. Breakfast was good but would have benefitted from some grapefruit and prunes being available and also yogurt . Prefer my toast separate from the cooked breakfast plate in a rack, two slices were presented on the plate alongside my cooked breakfast. Tasty though
- Amanda (10/5): Wonderful place to stay - We stay here couple of times a year and we love it. The Landlord remembers us and really makes us feel welcome. The pub is very homely and the food is amazing. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The area around is absolutely stunning. Nothing

- Alan (10/5): Amazing help from Emily - When I found myself stranded at Ravenglass train station on a Sunday night at 8 pm with no taxi service open, I called the Bower Inn and spoke to a very helpful and understanding lady called Emily, once Emily had listened to my dilemma, she came and picked me up in her own car and when I arrived the kitchen was closed and again Emily went above and beyond and made me a sandwich. Which was very welcome after an all day train journey to get there from the south coast.
Well done Emily and thank you. Not applicable

- Hannah (6/5): Nice but don’t think I will be coming again. - Been before many times before lovely food and rooms The room this time was really dated, bathroom not all that clean. Lamp next to bed wasn’t working. Had pre booked the restaurant and our table was just in the middle of a pub with people using it to put drinks on so I asked to move as this was for a special occasion.

Staff were very friendly, efficient and welcoming Extremely busy on the Saturday but this was a result of going on the day of the annual firework display which we were welcome to attend!
Limited alternative for vegetarian and vegan breakfast - 1 sausage veg or vegan replaced 2 meat sausages, 2 slices of bacon and black pudding although to be fair 2 veg sausages provided when requested, but thing there should be better replacements when dietary requirements known in advance.
