Guest Reviews
- Sean (6/5): - Hotel room was large. But was freezing. There ws a electric heater. But 2 small for size of room.
Food in the evening ws very good
- Richard (8/5): Will be great in the summer - The location is out in the fens and quite remote making it extremely peaceful.
The only diabetics to my stay was the temperature of the room which barely got above 16 degrees despite the electric radiator being on.
- Eugene (2/5): - The room was very tired there was no heating on so the room and bathroom were very cold. The radiators did not work and there was just an electric radiator in the bedroom which took 5 hours before the room was close to getting warm. There was no heating in the bathroom at all! I was not asked if i wanted breakfast and told just to leave my room keys in a box by the door when i leave.
- Clare (8/5): - Nice location good property
Slightly overpriced
- Doris (8/5): - The Ship Inn is a lovely place with old charm. The room was clean and spacious.
The restaurant had amazing food, staff and atmosphere!
We would definitely come back. đ
We
- Shane (4/5): Poor weekend stay - We booked a 2 night stay at the ship we arrived on the Saturday afternoon to be handed the keys to the room and the front door of the pub by a friendly young lady behind the bar.we went to the room and were quite shocked to find over the course of the weekend fult after fule with the room which reflected on are stay .The fults were from the door at the top of the stairs banging everytime someone went through it because it needed adjusting ro large cracks in the bathroom sink shower fitting coming off in your hand went you used the shower the sink tapes didn't work properly after a few seconds of running the hot tap the water became scolding hot but there was no sign warning of this hate to think some small child used the sink as we know children love messing with water as they would of burnt there hands very badly. There were stains on the carpet dust on the fitting the blind on one of the windows was broken so the sunlight stremed in from 6am so no chance of a lay in. There wasn't any staff members around before midday and not after 5 pm on the Sunday so felt the was zero customer service i could go on but i think you will get the idea. On a positive note the bar food was excellent on the Saturday evening and the young lady who waited on are table was very polite 5 stars đ for her thank you .
- Helen (2/5): - Very disappointed with the service. We have stayed many times over many years and sadly seen the service go down. The staff obviously have no idea about providing a good service which is contrary to their website which wants to constantly exceed expectations ! If that is their aim perhaps they could __Repair shower fixings that have fallen off the wall before guests arrive instead of the following day __ Replace cups and saucers with fresh ones daily __ Replace milk and drink selections ___When told that the one and only lamp does not work .....replace the bulb rather than state the obvious that it probably needs replacing. ____Replace incorrect wi-fi information in bedroom. Breakfast is no longer provided. The pub closes at 10.00 pm which means after this time there are no members of staff available . Sadly this establishment needs to improve . It is overpriced and we will not be returning. We will also be letting locals know that visitors should look elsewhere.
- John (2/5): The Ship Inn nr Spalding - Dreadful hotel. Unhelpful reception who complained that she couldnât get in touch with me to check my arrival time. The reason for this was that she wanted to close the pub an hour earlier than advertised. The ship doesnât provide breakfast despite being in a rural area with nowhere nearby for food. I did phone twice to check but nobody answered. Itâs totally unacceptable for a hotel not to provide breakfast. Once the pub shuts there are no staff onsite which is unsafe. The internet didnât work - no staff on site to help with this. No iron available . The shower bracket had been removed so the shower hung from the wall so couldnât shower properly. The room wasnât cleaned to an acceptable level
- Sean (10/5): - Great staff and service! The food at the restaurant was excellent! This inn has a great English countryside feel. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to this area.
- Linda (10/5): A great stay. - Lovely historic Inn. We had a great meal, staff were very friendly. We had room 1 a lovely suite with river views. Very comfy beds and spacious. Wifi needs some improvement other than that it was perfect.
- Gary (6/5): - This property is an Inn.
The bar was open on Friday night.
But on Saturday 22:00 when I got back everything was shut down and i had to use the key to access the property.
So i saw staff on check in and Saturday night when i called into the bar.
So my visit was virtually self service.
- Rory (10/5): - Lovely location, large room, great dinner menu.
- margaret (10/5): - The location was beautiful. Staff extremely friendly and helpful..food was excellent .really enjoyed our stay
- Alison (8/5): - Beautiful room, very spacious. A lovely place to stay.
The sink in the bathroom needs replacing and the taps are press down ones, not suitable for the job.
Found the bed and pillows uncomfortable but that was me.
- Stephen (8/5): - Hotel in quieter area. Good food and choice of beers
Been here a few times meets our needs
No breakfast!!
Rooms decorating looking sad
- Dawn (8/5): - The room that we stayed in was huge and had everything that we needed.
Itâs a shame that they donât offer breakfast as we had an evening meal in the bar which was lovely.
Couldnât check in until late afternoon which was also a shame but thankfully it was a dry day and we could take a walk along the river and village - could they not set up some sort of keysafe check in system so could at least get into the room (other places that weâve stayed at have done this and it worked well but completely understand that it may not be an option for this property) and wouldnât stop us staying here again.
- Bryan (10/5): - Clean and tidy
- Keith (6/5): Disappointing - After an extremely long drive it was very disappointing to find out that they were not serving food. I had specifically booked this hotel as it had a restaurant.
It would be very helpful to have been informed in advance so that I didnât have to get back in my car and drive for miles to find somewhere for dinner.
- Daniel (4/5): Disappointing - I stayed here in room 1 at the end of November 2022. I wasn't very well, had worked in a freezing factory all day and when I arrived at the hotel I had no heating or hot water in my room. I used an air heater from the wardrobe to try and get warm. In the morning I didn't have hot water either, but I remember having a nice breakfast and the owner telling me I should've called out of hours contact.
What I do remember was the amazing ribs in the pub and generally food was brilliant.
I had forgotten I previously stayed here when I booked this week, but recognised the car park. I was filled with slight dread when I saw I was allocated the same room but remembered the great ribs.
Unfortunately due to the bank holiday weekend the ribs were all gone... and burgers... and there would be no breakfast in the morning (I wasn't given a reason).
I ate a steak which was ok, not the best but filled a hole. Dessert was disappointing at it was a basic creme brulee with store bought short bread biscuits.
In my room there was no hot water again, so I couldn't have a shower. The staff in the bar rang the owner but he said it would take a while due to the kitchen being on. I tried all evening but water was never even luke warm. Guy behind the bar even took me to another room to check water but it was the same.
Room now has an electric panel heater which I was thankful for and I got a nice hot shower in the morning which I wasn't expecting.
Not so sure I'll be back though.
- Kayleigh (10/5): - We stayed for a night for my birthday and my father in laws birthday and we spent the afternoon in front of the fire which was so cosy and relaxing. We then had dinner and had the famous ribsâŚwe were all blown away by the quantity and quality of meat. The staff were incredibly friendly! The room we stayed in was huge and comfortable. Definitely will be returning! A fabulous stay.
- Eugene (2/5): Ok but room for improvement - Room was cold a I was told the boiler was broken however I donât believe that as water was hot. Had an electric radiator which took ages to heat the room then got too hot so switched off and woke up cold. Remote for tv was broken. Ordered a burger which was under cooked so not great. Breakfast good though.
- Ian (6/5): - Food was great but I wasnât told they had no heating working on the day. They open at 5pm which is to late really
- Andy (10/5): - Cracking room clean tidy huge excellent view's fantastic service and staff be back soon
- Dawn (4/5): Donât expect to chose your ÂŁ25 breakfast! - Dinner lovely - had the veggie burger
Breakfast very challenging
âCooked to orderâ actually means âyou get a full English whether you want one or notâ
I was actually asked âdid you know you wanted a veggie breakfast last night, if yes why didnât you tell someoneâ
I asked for beans mushroom and toast and was told âIâll take the bacon and sausage off and you can eat whatâs leftâ
Not good enough! And not suitable to chastise the guest for not wanting the forced upon us breakfast choice. No cereal, just a chosen for you full English and a rude chef.
Disappointing end to what, till then had been a lovely stay on a lovely location.
Sad to say, we wonât return
- David (10/5): - Great 1 night stay, excellent food for our evening meal, I had the lovely Sea Bass with veg & potatoes & my wife had the scampi & chips, which she enjoyed very much. We left early so unfortunately never tried the breakfast.
Room was clean & spacious, bed was comfortable.
Staff & owners made us fell very welcome.
Would stay again if we are down that way.
Thank you.
- Verified traveler (10/5): ship - Friendly, comfortable, great food
- Scott (10/5): - Friendly staff, beautiful, peaceful location. One of the best full English breakfasts Iâve had.
- David (8/5): Friendly hotel. - Great location. My room (2) a good size with a decent shower. Bed is a little soft but I slept well. Bar downstairs usually has a couple of friendly locals to chat to and the food is fine. Be aware check in times are quite late.
- John (10/5): - Food excellent, ale well kept, staff friendly, location very peaceful. Good choice of gins. Bed comfy, although softer than I prefer. Clean.
- John (8/5): - Fantastic stay! Service was excellent and so were the staff. The food was good. It was a clean, nice place.
Only one gripe. Towels needed to be bigger. However, that's literally the only thing.
Apart from the towel thing - 10 out of 10!
- Jamie (6/5): Extremely early check in closure - I have no real way to rate this place as the booking was made for a business trip and on my arrival to check in at 11.00 for the meeting the following day the entire place was closed with no way of getting in or answer to the phone..
Turns out check in closes at 8pm... which is insanely early, it has to be said it does state on this in the fine print but with such a abnormally early close for check in you would expect better highlighting of this fact.
- s (10/5): - This was a last minute business trip. I was travelling alone and the staff were extremely welcoming i felt comfortable eating alone in the pub both nights staff were amazing very friendly. The room was lovely very warm spacious, food really nice, i will definitely stay again. The only thing to be aware of is getting to the pub the first night my sat nav took me along a dirt track it was pitch black and i genuinely thought my sat nav was taking me to a dead end in a field haha but keep following it and you do come to the pub. My second night i came back via the main road which was much easier to navigate.
- Daniel (4/5): Lovely pub, stay fell short of expectations - COLD - Arrived at the nice pub after a long day working in a cold factory.
Staff were welcoming and showed me to my room, which was a big L shaped loft.
The room was cold but I noticed the thermostatic valves were closed and opened them up to hopefully provide much needed heat while I went for dinner.
I would like to point out that I had a very bad head cold and felt extra run down on this trip.
Dinner was excellent, I had ribs and apple crumble, it was quite a wait, but worth it - both were exceptional, even with my cold affecting taste.
The pub had a nice big fireplace but unfortunately it wasn't on, so i was left wishing I hadn't left my jumper in my room while waiting for food. I still hadn't been able to warm up properly from work and feeling rough..
By the time I got to my room it was nearly 10pm and it was still cold. I decided a nice hot shower is what I needed before bed. Unfortunately the water wasn't particularly hot and went completely cold on me after less than a minute.
I got out of the freezing shower and walked in to the freezing room feeling worse than when I got here. I found a portable fan heater in the wardrobe and put that on to stop myself shivering.
I considered ringing the emergency number provided but as I wanted to go to sleep anyway it wouldn't be worth while.
In the morning I still had no heating and the water was luke-warm so now shower again. Breakfast was only from 8am, underwhelming and undercooked to my taste.
Favourite part was my little heater.
- Mr A J (8/5): Very nice stay - Very nice, large room in a nice pub, quiet. Very good meal, friendly server (owner?). Would stay here again
- Malcolm (10/5): Great stay - Great stay. Good food. Clean and tidy.
- kenneth (8/5): Happy points but some details need attention - A couple of irksome points. No drama just annoying. Basin had small crack. Very sharp, cut my finger. Window blinds needed attention both broken. Tv control not working.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent country inn - A friendly cosy pub with well finished rooms tucked away but close enough to the main A17. Fine selection of local beers and good food.
- Liam (8/5): Very Good English Inn. - A nice inn. Excellent food. Friendly staff. Comfortable room. Quiet area by a small river. Very good.
- W (8/5): Great B&B with staff keen to please - This establishment is really lovely and the people working here are super-helpful. The room we stayed in was huge and really comfortable. The food served in the bar was really nice with a lovely selection available on the menu. The location is really peaceful. The only fault is that there is no cereal or toast on offer with breakfast. (But the sausages and bacon are locally sourced and noticeably high quality ingredients).
- Claire (10/5): - This is a hidden gem of a hotel, it was very reasonably priced for the good size of the room and facilities, the staff were all really friendly and helpful and it was lovely and quiet. We had a peaceful evening stroll by the stream and enjoyed drinks outside the front of the hotel in the cool. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will be back to try the food.
- Malcolm (10/5): Lovely rural pub with large bedrooms - Great location, large clean bedroom with ensuite bathroom and good cooked breakfast. No complaints - would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely location - Lovely hotel, friendly staff, nice bar with good beer. Very large room, lovely view of the river. Quiet location.
- Steven (8/5): Second stay. - Very quiet place to stay. Good food and excellent friendly service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Relaxing stay - A relaxing weekend away, great little pub in a quiet area, friendly staff, good food & lovely room
- Steven (10/5): Perfect inn for a stay. - Last minute booking, but made very welcome by staff and room was spot on. Quiet and excellent service during my one night stay.
- Martin (10/5): The Ship Inn Excellent - Hotels.com DISGRACEFUL - On arrival there was only one room available although we had 2 confirmation bookings! Unfortunately we had to share one room between us! Poppy who we dealt with at the property was outstanding in trying to communicate with Hotels.com whereas Hotels.com was completely hopleless!! Lack of understanding of the problem which could be due to a lack of understanding of the English language? Not sure where they were based but confirmed not in England! Completely ruined my evening especially after a 2 day activity where I needed a good sleep and rest! Well done Poppy though at The Ship Inn - a very mature person with great patience despite being young in age *****
- P W (6/5): Normal service expected. - After tiring journey unable to have a snack in the room. Last evening arrived at 10.30pm not allowed a drink before retiring to bed.
- David (10/5): - Good food, good beer, good service.
- THERESA (10/5): - THE SHIP INN WAS A VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE. THE PHOTO DOESN'T DO IT JUSTICE. THE BEDROOMS WERE HUGE WITH A BEAUTIFUL EN-SUITE. I DON'T THINK THEY MISSED ANYTHING OUT. EVEN A SPARE SINGLE BED IN THE ROOMS. EVERYTHING WAS ULTRA CLEAN. VERY FRIENDLY PEOPLE.
- Christine (10/5): Excellent choice! - Amazing settting, lovely river views, comfortable quiet room, good pub grub. Enjoyed our stay!
- Daniel (10/5): Lovely Pub for a stay - We had a lovely stay at the Ship Inn and would recommend it!
- Mary D (10/5): - Absolutely lovely and peaceful place. Walking the river was wonderful, and the dinner I had was excellent.
- Kate (10/5): - It is a lovely property, spacious, and you can't hear the pub noise from the bedroom we stayed in
- Wioleta (10/5): - Nice place
- Annie (8/5): Family catch up. - Room was clean and comfortable, had to ask for milk for 2nd night but apart from that it was a nice stay đ
- Peter (8/5): - Nice quiet location. Food is really good. The staff are friendly and work hard. We had a small glitch regarding breakfast but it was all resolved quickly and amicably.
We would stay here again.
- S J (10/5): Perfect - We had the most amazing stay, thank you to all of the staff involved. Both the bar area and bedroom/bathroom were spotless and beautifully presented. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to make us feel very welcome. Everything they did was very much appreciated.
And the food! The very best ingredients cooked perfectly (including one rare and one med-rare sirloin steak), by chefs who clearly care about their work.
Couldn't fault a thing. Thank you!
- Keith (10/5): - Excellent nice little pub bu the river eady to find nice comfortable rooms only thing was the rooms were cold as the central heatingvradiatirs werent on but there was a fan heater the staff were very friendky we woukd recommend
- Ian (6/5): Donât expect breakfast! - Nice welcome. Food good. Badly let down on breakfast both days. First day chef did not turn up. Toast and coffee only . 2nd day breakfast room locked so no breakfast today neither even though i paid ÂŁ10 a day extra for cooked breakfast.
- Emma (2/5): Please do not waste your money - Pulled into the car park, where a woman was vomiting , lovely start . Bar staff were young and didnât seem very engaged. We quickly took our things to the room , the room was beautifully decorated , however the room was freezing cold. We then went downstairs to ye bar to inform them that the radiators were cold and the room was very cold. We ordered some food at the bar and hoped that on return to the room it would be warm. The dinner cost ÂŁ38 in total , my partners burger was undercooked, I had cod and chips , the fish was disgusting, and watery , I hardly ate a thing. After travelling for 2 hours in the car for my partners birthday , so we went upstairs and the room was still cold , complained and they gave us a heater which was useless , I had to sleep in my clothes I was so cold all night , no one around to speak to in the morning as Iâm not happy at all, and I will not be recommending this establishment to anyone. Such a shame as the decor is lovely , the food and customer service is below standard, I honestly wish I would of stayed home , at least we would have been warm , and it ruined a birthday surprise to get away from it all. Weâve had a tough couple of years , and Iâm left ÂŁ160 down , after travel costs etcâŚ. So very disappointed âšď¸
- Tracey (8/5): - Didn't eat here. Room comfortable and clean.
- Gary (10/5): - Quality
- Andrew (4/5): - The room was nice an spacious but there was no heating to speak of and only a thin duvet and throw supplied.
Additionally the shower hose had split so we couldn't take a shower in the morning.
- Wioleta (10/5): - Perfect place
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very good all round. good venue in lovely location great for walks and access to Spalding.
- Steven (8/5): - Friendly service and good food, too large a portion for me.
Room was clean and comfortable.
- Krzysztof (10/5): - Room was really Tidy bed, really comfortable and the Burger was fantastic !!
- Gunhan (10/5): Relaxing Short Stay - The Ship Inn is located in a small village (Surfleet) setting outside Spalding next to River Welland. Very quiet residential area.
I arrived at around 10pm. and staff was still waiting. stairs and common areas were very clean and inviting. My Room (4) was large and clean, bed was very comfortable. TV and tea facilities were very good also. This size room could accommodate a small desk and a chair to work on.
Also bathroom was large and not claustrophobic as it in most small hotels. My stay was calm and relaxing and sadly I had to leave very early in the morning and have not seen any other person around. But I am very likely to stay there again in the future.
- Jason (10/5): - Rooms lovely and clean . Nice pub with great food.
- Kate (10/5): - Lovely location, beautiful building, straightforward facilities which was all that was required. Friendly staff, and a good cooked breakfast
- Mike (8/5): Great place with friendly staff - Very friendly staff, lovely clean room and great food. Breakfast was amazing too :-)
- Barry (10/5): - Lovely location by the river.
It would be good if there was an option for an earlier breakfast (self service cereal and toast) as currently breakfast is only served at 8.30 and that to late for a business visit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All good
- David (8/5): - Nice friendly hotel. Real people in the bar. Got a good night's sleep
- Ashley (10/5): - We stopped at the property for 2 nights and could not fault anything
