Guest Reviews
- Steven (10/5): - What a wonderful and authentic Japanese experience. The hosts made us both feel extremely welcome and accommodated despite the language barrier. The Japanese style keiseki breakfast and dinner were outstanding both in taste and general experience. Thoroughly recommend for those who want a true Ryokan experience. The private onsen was also outstanding to say the least.
- Carson (10/5): - Wonderful place to call home for a few days. Staff were so kind, rooms were clean and tidy, and the breakfast was unbelievable!
- Griff (10/5): - Great hotel with nice and helpful staff. Dinner and breakfast are excellent. Really nice to see Miyajima after dark with very few tourists.
- Michael (10/5): - All you can wait from a Ryokan...
- stefan (10/5): - We had a lovely time. Thanks to the hosts
- conor (10/5): - Lovely place on Miyajima away from the busy shopping area but not a far walk from the terminal, maybe 15 minutes and still very accessible to the main shopping street, itsukashima shrine, the rope way all the good stuff if still less than 5-10 minutes walking distance. Very clean, lovely bath and shower facilities very nice after a long day of walking. The people who run it are incredibly sweet and you can see they truly care about your experience. Couldn’t give it higher praise!
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Best ryokan experience. The breakfast was huge, please be prepared for breakfast. You can wear provided yukuta to breakfast.
- amy (10/5): Absolutely wonderful! - My stay at Ryosaino Oyado Mizuhaso was wonderful! The hosts were all very nice, the room was comfortable, and the food was absolutely delicious. Both meals had so many components, it was so much fun to try everything! The private bath was also very nice after hiking up the mountain that day. It was also a very short, easy walk to this place from the shopping area. I would definitely stay here again!
- Ira (10/5): - Excellent Japanese style breakfast included 👍. Very quiet environment. Extremely comfortable bedding. Very roomy baths. Very good ryokan experience. Miyajima is quiet during off season so beware of the fact that it gets dark early and many close by restaurants were closed (early?). The shopping area near the small ferry building stays open and we were happy to have found a few restaurants that were opened for business after 5 pm. We had a great oyster dinner at Kakiya.
- Christine (10/5): - The staff were nice and friendly.Breakfast was wonderful and plentiful. The Onsen was nice. The place was nice and quiet.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were nice and friendly.Breakfast was wonderful and plentiful. The Onsen was nice. The place was nice and quiet.
- Wai Khin (10/5): - Quite a distance from the ferry terminal, be prepared to walk about 15 minutes. Not recommended to have a luggage with you.
On the flip side, area is nice and quiet with minimal footfall. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff.
Shower and bath facility is shared, but the door can be locked when in use.
- Jackie (10/5): - Wonderful, traditional, small hotel with onsen located at the shuttle stop for the aquarium. Choice of Japanese or Western breakfast - choose Japanese, an experience not to be missed! Hotel is just steps from views of the O-Tori Gate and a nice walk into the shopping/ferry area.
Only downside is that by 5:00pm, everything in the nearby area is closed and shuttered so plan accordingly.
- Blandine (10/5): - Everything was perfect !
- David (10/5): - .
- Jay (10/5): - Felt very personable to a foreigner as myself. Very accommodating and sweet staff. Lovely hotel on the island with wonderful views
- Rosemary (10/5): - This little place was beautiful. We only stayed one night unfortunately. Would have loved to stay longer. Perfect.
- Matthew (10/5): - A great place to stay. The proprietor was extremely kind and helpful. The shower had the strongest water pressure I have ever experienced. I would stay again - highly recommended!
- Deborah (8/5): - The guest house staff were very friendly and helpful however we arrived on a very wet day and everything closed on the island so getting any dinner was not possible. The hot tub was magnificent and the Japanese breakfast excellent. Our room was very comfortable as well.
- An H (10/5): - Great place to stay to experience traditional Japanese cuisine and explore Miyajima island. Location is with in Walking distance to popular shrine, hiking trails and tori gate. Excellent hostess and friendly staff during check in and check out. Thank you for lovely hospitality

- Gerardo (10/5): - Wonderful staff, great food, east to go to and from once you familiarize yourself with the island's roads and paths.
I had a great stay, highly recommend.
- Inga (10/5): - Great location and great service
- Karine (10/5): - Great place, food, services
Highyl recommend
- Jessica (10/5): - Lovely ryokan in Miyajima. Very clean, convenient, and comfortable.
- Nancy (10/5): Amazing - Wonderful hosts and wonderful food! The amenities are fantastic. They waited with dinner for me though I arrived late. Away from the crowds. I regret not booking more nights here.
- Donald (10/5): - Check in person was friendly, happy, and helpful. Superb breakfast. Excellent location. Room was very clean and nice - I slept so well!!!
- Nicolas (10/5): - It was a very amazing experience
- Brian (10/5): - This guesthouse (ryokan) is a little off the main tourist track on Miyajima Island but that is its advantage since it does not suit in a sea of people all day long. It's still close to the main places.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the stylish bathroom. And the food was fresh and delicious.
Recommended.
- Jacey (10/5): - Staff are super kind and helpful. I arrived a bit past 7, but they still honored my dinner reservation. The food is fantastic and both dinner and breakfast were my best meals in Japan so far. The bath is also wonderful, especially after walking and hiking all day. I’d definitely stay here again when I visit Miyajima!
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is just in front of the aquarium. Room was of a good size and bathroom is shared with other guests but with the option to lock the door while using it. Food was delicious both breakfast and dinner. The staff was really friendly and helpful, left my hoodie in the closet and they offered to send to my hotel in osaka!. Would definitely come back again!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very kind and helpful staff. Quiet location. Inn was very clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic location on miyajima. Evening meal of about 12 courses was superb in presentation and quality. Breakfast was also excellent. Staff friendly and made us very welcome. Would highly recommend.
- Alan (10/5): Great ryukon on miyajima - Fantastic stay. Very welcoming staff. Very comfortable facilities. Toilet is ensuite. Shower/bath is on corridor. Large room very comfortable for a solo stay. Rate included breakfast and dinner both of which were absolutely top quality. Location is 20 min walk from ferry or 800 yen taxi. Very close to the great torii. Could not ask for better.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The entire property was very well kept and up to date. Staff were very friendly and the Japanese breakfast was top notch.
- Tamela (10/5): A Hidden Gem - This ryokan is a hidden gem. I had a beautiful simple Japanese-style room with futon on the floor, rice paper screens, and my own toilet. The picturesque bath area had a big deep bowl-shaped tub that was relaxing. It's at a quiet tree-filled end of town. Best of all, the Japanese breakfasts were AMAZING! Both mornings, the owners laid out many small exquisitely prepared dishes of fish, veggies, fruit, rice, and eggs cooked at the table. It's a little bit of a hike from the ferry landing through the pretty town and shrine areas, but you could take a taxi.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great ryokan that offered an amazing breakfast! Staff were kind and cordial. Although the hotel was a bit of a ways from the dock, I think it was worth the walk!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Felt really looked after by the staff here, and was a lovely place to spend a quiet weekend retreat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A casual modern guesthouse that mixes aspects of hotel and ryokan. Much less intimidating than a traditional ryokan, with more relaxed rules (e.g. shoes may be worn up to your room) and some concessions to western sensibilities (baths are shared, but there are locks on the doors for privacy while using one).
The staff have limited English but are friendly, used to foreign guests, and good at communicating. The food is excellent - as with the accommodation, it is a fusion of traditional concepts with modern/western influences, and considerable effort clearly goes into the menus; it is here that the limited English does unfortunately mean that non-Japanese-speaking guests will miss out on a lot of the detailed explanations, but the flavours are quite capable of speaking for themselves.
The main downsides are the location, which is a bit out of the way - but easily walkable from the ferry port unless you have heavy luggage (and you’re not going to spend more than a night or two on Miyajima, so consider sticking the suitcase in a coin locker and just bringing a lighter bag!); and the curfew, which means you won’t get to wander the streets at night, if for some reason you were hoping to do that.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was far from the ferry so be ready for a walk but it's a clean and very well don't place, breakfast was exceptional!
- Joshua (10/5): Perfect stay - Amazing!!!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent - This place is run by a family for over 50 years (so the owners told me). It is rather small but extremely well-maintained ryokan. The room was big (and way bigger than many 3-4 stars hotel in Japan). Although the baths are shared, they are quite private (as you can have it for yourself) and contain Ofuro (Japanese soaking tubs). I also recommend having a dinner there, it was rather cheap compared to other eating places and rather authentic experience (and five-course meal) - I tried many new things, which I would not have found on my own.
- Angela (10/5): Nice little guest house, good food. - Booked a room with dinner included. It was totally worth the extra money. A 12 course meal with many delicious items. The shops on the island mostly closes after 5 so it is a good idea to order dinner. Room and shared shower were clean. Staff were friendly and spoke sufficient english. Highly recommended.
- Mr H O M (8/5): Traditional Ryokan experience with Kaiseki cuisine - The room was traditional Japanese tatami style, small and cosy. The lady who checked me in had basic but definitely workable English.
The hotel is located a bit far from the ferry pier. A 20 minute walk (not fun with luggage and in the rain). The famous Itsukushima Temple and the old shopping street are between the hotel and the ferry pier. The Ropeway Station to get to the Shishiwa on top of one of the hills is 25 minutes walk heading inland from the old shopping street.
The hotel is also a restaurant on the ground floor. This is why I walked right past it looking for it!
If you go for half-board here, you are a guest at the restaurant as well. Here they offer "Kaiseki" i.e. a Japanese fine dining experience. It consists of many small dishes over multiple courses. The courses involved local produce including the famous Miyajima oysters, river eels and even Fugu (didn't expect it but now I've ticked it off my bucket list). I could not decide whether to day-trip from Hiroshima or stay the night on Miyajima, but saw another review gush about the dinner experience i.e. "Kaiseki" and decided to go for it.
This does mean the hotel is effectively closed for the evening at around 10PM-ish when they close up the restaurant on the ground floor. However being a sleepy little tourist island, everything is apparently shut after 10PM.
To be honest I could have done Miyajima as a day trip but this was certainly an option when I didn't want to go too basic with a hostel.
- Audrey M (10/5): All around excellent auberge in Miyajima - Auberge Misuhaso is great! It is not a traditional ryokan - there is a private toilet and a mini fridge in each room - but it gives a sense of fusion Japanese style. The food - dinner and breakfast - are excellent. The dinner, in particular, was beyond words, easily the best meal I have ever had. Staff are very friendly, and it is easy to get to: just follow the signs for the aquarium and the auberge is a block or so before the aquarium entrance. Misuhaso makes staying a night in Miyajima well worth your time.
- Kiyomi (10/5): Absolutely fabulous! - I had a really great time at the hotel. The OKAMI ( the owner/GM) was so kind! Even though it was an unusual bad weather - typhoon and heavy rain warning around the area, I could enjoy the trip with her help! Also their food was so delicious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Accomodation, Amazing Food - Brilliant experience - good quality with casual and very friendly service, well worth the rate paid. Accomodation is Japanese style with futons. Toilet and basin in room, shared (but private) Japanese bathrooms with showers and tubs.
Food was exceptional, top quality local cuisine - definately book dinner and breakfast package, take the Japanese food option (western option available too), sit back and enjoy. Its a real feast!
Great experience being on Miyajima at night or in the morning without the crowds of tourists.
Location as shown on Hotels.com is inaccurate though - follow signs to the Aquarium and it's just across the road.
- sensi (8/5): Very nice boutique hotel in Miyajima! - Excellent food, super clean & well decorated. The dinner and the private bath were amazing! The only downside was the strict rule regarding check-in at 3pm. Also, the Booking.com map is incorrectly showing the location of the hotel, so I had a hard time finding it (although it is not far away)
- Jeff (10/5): Fantastic Place! - Great Location, helpful staff, great meals, great bath.
- CY (8/5): hotel is close to Itsukushima shrine - very quiet and cosy place to stay. Just that you need to share bathroom, but there is private toilet in the room. Inset sounds can be hear all days during summer. It's cool!
