- Heidy (7/5): Agradable, pero por ese precio buscaría mejores opciones. - Las habitaciones del bloque 7, bonitas, amplias, cama y almohada muy comfortables, limpieza 9/10. La comida del comedor general excelente, menú muy variado y bien presentado. En cuanto al hotel en general: Las áreas comunes desactualizadas, necesita modernizarse, no hay jacuzzi para uso general, el agua del parque estaba algo turbia y sucia y varias de las turbinas para el río lento estaban apagadas. Los bares de la playa y piscina cierran a las 6, no hay música para ambientar, no vimos actividades de ambientación en el día, se siente todo off. El layout del Hotel lo hace incómodo de caminar, como un laberinto. En cuanto al personal notamos mucha oportunidad de mejora pues había personal muy amable, pero tuvimos varias experiencias desagradables con personal odioso y poco dispuesto, en ese punto es muy notable que falta entrenamiento. En sentido general, las habitaciones y comida buena, las amenidades, instalaciones y servicios hay mucho que mejorar. Para la oferta que hay en la zona, no sería un hotel al que volvería.

I would recommend this r - The property was very clean and welcoming with so many amenities. The staff was exceptional and the different restaurants had multiple selections for every age group and individual taste. The room with the ocean view was very nice and scenic. My husband and I watched the sunrise, which was an amazing sight. Hector was our concierge and he was extremely attentive to every requests. His assistance, professionalism and overall attitude was amazing! The main lobby was somewhat distant from our room, but that was not a deal breaker with the overall experience we had.

- michaeldZ2969FN (8/5): Dreams - My girlfriend and I stayed at the neighbouring resort Breathless in April. Both breathless and Dreams are owned by Hyatt so you have access to both. We kept coming back to Dreams because of the beautiful pool, water park and the food ! We also met our favourite bar tender Felix who was located at the bar on top of the lazy river. He was always super friendly, made us laugh and brought good vibes to our day! I recommend going to see Felix at dreams, he was by far our favourite bartender. Ask for a dirty monkey !

The resort is large and busy, but easy to navigate and the many spots throughout the resort make it feel less busy. We stayed in the preferred section and really enjoyed the preferred amenities, such as the pools and breakfast and lunch restaurant. The food was outstanding and very fresh at all of the restaurants. Onyx is one of the best Dreams food-wise we have experienced. The highlight of our trip was our butler, Juan. Juan was super communicative and was always there to help with anything- whether it was dinner reservations or our AC not cooling one day. He always took care of us and took what was a good stay and made it unforgettable! He is awesome- request him for your butler!
- Andreahutch28 (10/5): Perfect High School Spring Break Group Destination - We enjoyed a lovely senior spring break leaving the cold weather in Michigan with our daughter and 36 classmates & families. Approximately 100 people in our group in total. The kids had an absolute blast enjoying all areas from the main pool, the beach, the club, and the beach and pool activities. It was so fun to watch the kids have fun together as a large group before graduating high school. I would highly recommend Dreams Onyx as a spring break destination.
- 354janessaj (4/5): Just Meh! - I recently stayed at Dreams Onyx Resort & Spa using my Hyatt membership, and unfortunately the experience fell well below expectations—particularly in service, accommodations, and overall guest support. When booking, I initially selected an adults-only room by mistake. As soon as I realized, I contacted the hotel to adjust the reservation. I was surprised by how unhelpful and dismissive the staff were—they simply told me I needed to cancel and rebook rather than assisting with what felt like a very routine request. I ultimately canceled and rebooked a family-appropriate room that clearly indicated one child (my 10-year-old son). However, upon arrival, I was asked to pay an additional $400 for my child—despite his age being properly entered in the reservation. No clear explanation was provided as to why a “child” on the booking did not apply to my 10-year-old. The interaction felt unnecessarily difficult and, frankly, like a money grab. The tone in the Preferred Lounge was also noticeably condescending and not aligned with the level of hospitality expected at this price point. Our room—located on the third floor of Building 6 in the Preferred Club—was another major disappointment. The room did not have the advertised sofa bed listed in the Hyatt booking, so instead we were given an uncomfortable cot for our son. The room itself felt dated and poorly designed, with a very strange and impractical bathroom layout. The bathroom also had a persistent sewage smell, which was extremely unpleasant and never resolved. The outdoor balcony tub felt outdated and odd rather than a luxury feature. Additionally, there are no elevators in the building, which made accessing a third-floor room unnecessarily inconvenient. We stayed in the Preferred Club and were assigned a butler, but that service added little to no value. I tipped him $40 on the first day and made it clear I was more than willing to take care of him generously throughout the trip—in fact, I would have gladly tipped him daily if he had been even minimally helpful. Unfortunately, he did nothing for us. Simple requests were either declined or ignored. He told us he was not allowed to assist with reserving pool or beach chairs, despite seeing other butlers do this for guests. When I asked about getting Diet Coke (the resort only offers Coke Zero), he suggested I leave the property and walk outside the gates to find it myself rather than making any effort to help. More frustrating was the complete lack of follow-through. I asked him on day one to secure a Hibachi reservation at a reasonable time during our stay (we were there midweek for five days, so this seemed entirely feasible). He never followed up. I had to check in two days later, at which point he told me the only availability was 8:00 PM. When I pushed back and asked about other days, he eventually secured a 6:00 PM reservation for Saturday—but only after I prompted him again, which made it clear he had not been proactive at all. To make matters worse, the only time he made an appearance toward the end of the trip was at dinner the night before we left, saying he wanted to “stop by and say hi,” which felt transparently like an attempt to position himself for a tip. He later sent me a WhatsApp message telling me I could leave him a tip at checkout—even noting he wouldn’t be there to assist with bags because his shift didn’t start early enough. Given that he provided no service whatsoever, this felt incredibly presumptuous. Our arrival experience was also lacking. We arrived early and requested early check-in, which was unavailable—understandable—but no one offered a tour, guidance, or even basic orientation of the property. No one explained how the resort worked, how to use the Preferred Club amenities, or what benefits we were entitled to. We were not escorted to our room and instead had to track down access ourselves through the Preferred Lounge. Even then, the room wasn’t ready upon arrival after check-in time. As a result, we didn’t meaningfully use or benefit from Preferred Club at all. Service throughout the stay was inconsistent at best. Despite tipping regularly (typically $20 per interaction), service remained slow and indifferent. It often felt like staff simply didn’t care, which ultimately discouraged continued tipping at that level. Food quality was also a major disappointment. The buffet was particularly poor. That said, there were a few bright spots: the chef at Spice Hibachi was outstanding, and our server at the steakhouse provided excellent service. The pool itself was also a highlight and well maintained. Having stayed at a range of luxury properties—including resorts in the Maldives as well as Disney properties such as Disney’s Yacht Club Resort—I fully understand that this is an all-inclusive resort and not meant to deliver that same level of service. However, based on reviews and positioning, I expected this to perform as a higher-end all-inclusive. Unfortunately, it did not even meet that bar and felt more in line with a lower-tier experience. Overall, the Preferred Club provided virtually no added benefit in our experience, and the combination of poor service, lack of hospitality, misleading room details, and inconsistent policies made this stay frustrating. Frankly, I would have been better off booking a standard room at a lower cost and avoiding the added disappointment. I would not return based on this experience.

From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredible. They were welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. They made everything feel easy and enjoyable, which makes such a difference when traveling with kids. The beach was beautiful and perfect for families. It is clean, safe, and lots of fun for the boys. The amenities were excellent across the board, with plenty to keep everyone entertained and relaxed. Dinner each night was a highlight! It is delicious, well-prepared, and something for everyone. It really felt like the perfect balance of quality and family-friendly. Overall, this was an ideal setup for a family vacation. We left feeling relaxed, happy, and already talking about coming back. Highly recommend!

Private butler was called Sterling .. he was amazing … he would make sure everything ran smoothly making dinner reservations picking you up and ensuring you were sat down with out having to wait for tables and would make sure you was well looked after for service in the restaurants. Any questions or problems, sterling was your man to solve and help … if I go back which I probably will, I will request him again … wonderful stay

The room and whole resort was spotless, the staff were incredible and loved that my children made the effort to speak Spanish. The buffet choice at every meal was amazing, but the restaurants in the evening were exceptional. The hibachi was our highlight and the only thing you need to book. The activities were great and the beach was stunning. The evening shows were incredible, with the exception of the slightly below average magic show. I cannot fault the resort at all. Would absolutely visit again.

Over our seven-day stay, he was hands-down the best resort staff member we encountered — attentive, proactive, and genuinely invested in our experience from day one. When we had a room temperature issue early in our stay, Jesus addressed it immediately — no runaround, no delays. Throughout the week, he checked in with us regularly both in person and via WhatsApp, always making sure we had everything we needed. He went well beyond his assigned responsibilities, helping arrange dinner plans for guests who weren't even under his care. He also secured spa reservations and arranged a preferred spot by the pool for us — little things that made a big difference. On our final evening, when we shared some honest feedback about a dining experience, he took it to heart and personally followed up to make sure our last night was a great one. He even coordinated our luggage pickup for departure, ensuring a smooth and stress-free checkout. The mark of a truly exceptional concierge is that you feel genuinely looked after — not just accommodated. Jesus is that person. He is a tremendous asset to Dreams Onyx, and he is a big reason we would return. Thank you, Jesus!

Lots of different activities and areas to keep the family and children entertained. Elias was an incredible concierge and we hope to make it back to visit soon! He anticipated our needs before we even knew we needed them!

This was because we booked a 2 bedroom family suite...which was big and beautiful! This also made us preferred members which came with extra perks to feel VIP. Juan our butler communicated with us through Whats App. He was amazing not overly pushy but there to answer all of our questions and give suggestions if needed. The entertainment was amazing! Every night fun entertainment, themed parties- dominican show, Queen cover band, magic show, fire show, circus, Kareoke. And then afterwards was a fun dance party led by the entertainment team. My kids loves this! Food was great! The pools were awesome. My kids loved the water park and infinity pool. The Mix Up bar at the water park had the best (and accomidating) bartenders- Miguel, Felix, and Anthony really took care of us! Spice (Habachi) and Cin Cin (Mediterranean) were our favorite restaurants. Our kids, ages 15, 13, and 11, and my husband and I had the best vacation at Dreams! Memories that we will cherish for a long long time! We will be back!.
- S3327WFadamp (10/5): Great “butler” - Really, everything was great about this trip. It’s a beautiful location. We were “preferred” for a little extra, which was worth it. The preferred beach was great, as was the preferred pool. You also get a “butler” with the preferred status. Ours was Juan or Juanito, as he was affectionately called. He was great! He checked in with us every morning and was ready to help with any of our needs. Most importantly, perhaps, he made sure we were taken care of every night for dinner. In fact, every night, he met us at the restaurant and spoke to the hostess and ensured we were sat to our liking. I should also mention all the food options were really good; from the buffet to the individual restaurants. But, Juan really made the trip special.

But I had a small inconvenience with one of the DJs where he spoke to me in a very respectful way, I got to see his name "minimi" long hair, how is it possible that in such a nice hotel you have people working like that.

I highly recommend upgrading to preferred status to get additional amenity access. Jesus (our butler) was super helpful for absolutely anything we needed but also guiding us during our stay. We loved the various food options and our food servers Juan and Eddy were so friendly and attentive. We appreciated the high standard of cleanliness of not only our room being cleaned every day but the hotel itself and how the staff were consistently maintaining the cleanliness.

- 634lyndaz (8/5): The bad and the good - We had an unfortunate and disappointing end to an otherwise very wonderful 5 days at Dreams Onyx. At 8:00 AM on Friday morning, April 10, 2026, the bellhop arrived to pick up (and transport via electric cart) our unlocked carry-on suitcases to the front of the hotel lobby. He asked me twice and my daughter once what time our van was arriving for transport to the airport. It then took 30 minutes for him to arrive at the front of the hotel with our luggage. When we arrived home, my daughter noticed her jewelry case was missing from her carry-on. I subsequently found the jewelry case in the front pocket of my husband's carry-on! The jewelry my daughter placed in the case that morning was now gone. We are certain that the jewelry was stolen between the time the bellhop loaded the luggage onto the electric vehicle and the time that the luggage arrived at the front of the hotel, where we were standing and waiting for it. Up until this upsetting event, the stay at the hotel could not have been any better. The place is beautiful and clean, the rooms are spacious, and the majority of the staff are exceptional -- friendly, kind, and cheerful. I also felt that the staff genuinely loves children, as they were vey attentive to our grandchildren.

Good food, excellent drinks, kids loved the beach and water park as well as the food. Carmello at the pool bar took amazing care of making non alcoholic dirty bananas and mudslides for the girls even going to get bananas just for my youngest. He makes a terrific adult Iceberg as well!!

- vishal (3/5): Poor value for money. The experience was not worth the high price tag. - The swim up pool and beach were great. Very calm and relaxing experience. The staff at the beach were very warm, courteous, and attentive to our needs. The food at the Italian restaurant was really good. The fitness center was great and it is open 24/7 which was really helpful. On day 1 at check in the front desk staff said that per policy reservations cannot be made at the restaurants. When we went for dinner at 6:30pm to the mediterranean restaurant, and the wait time was one hour. Same for the italian restaurant. So we went to the international cusine place and got a table right away. We waited for over an hour after placing our food order, but the food never came. The staff kept saying the food was coming, but it never did, so we left. I raised this with the restaurant manager and the front desk staff. We were so exhausted and frustrated and lost our appetite. The next day at breakfast a staff member shows up and says that they will make dinner reservations for us, which they did for the rest of our stay. So magically now dinner reservations could be made. The only place where the food was good was the italian restaurant and the burger joint open till late. Every other place we ate at - mediterranean, japanese, mexican, barefoot grill, breakfast buffet, the food was mediocre / poor. Very disappointing experience.

- Lev (5/5): Good pools, disappointing value for money - 1. Very large and spacious rooms with a huge, comfortable bed. The room was quiet and generally clean, with plenty of space to move around. The room had most of the necessary amenities; however, there was no kettle, so we had to go to the restaurant and bring hot water back in a thermos, which was not very convenient. 2. Good room amenities overall: having both an iron and a steamer was convenient. 3. The pool infrastructure is genuinely impressive — many different pools, pool bars, free towels everywhere, plenty of sunbeds, and decent water slides. 4. The Lazy River is the absolute highlight of the hotel. Floating on a tube, slowly circling the river, passing the bar and grabbing drinks along the way was genuinely fun, and we spent most of our pool time there. 5. Clean beach with beautiful sea and nice sand. The natural setting is pleasant, and it’s genuinely nice to spend time by the water. 6. About half of the staff were friendly, polite, and genuinely pleasant to interact with, especially around the pools and some service areas. 1. Very poor arrival experience. Without a reservation, we were not allowed to enter the hotel territory at all. We stood outside the gate with our luggage for around 40 minutes and were forced to make a Booking reservation on the spot just to be allowed in. For an expensive 5-star hotel, this felt unacceptable. 2. Security staff at the entrance was rude and dismissive at first. Their tone changed instantly only after we showed the booking confirmation, and instead of apologizing, they made inappropriate jokes about the situation. 3. At the front desk, the situation was completely ignored — no apology, no acknowledgment, as if nothing had happened. This left a very bad first impression. 4. The room, despite being large, felt worn for a hotel of this level: visible rust, tired condition, and a general lack of attention to maintenance. 5. The outdoor bathtub on the balcony was leaking badly. While we were using it, water flooded the room floor, and staff entered the room unexpectedly to deal with the issue. 6. One evening there was no cold water at all — only extremely hot water. 7. Food in the restaurants was bad. Not average — genuinely poor, especially considering the prices. The only place where food was more or less acceptable was the self-service breakfast area. 8. Desserts were even worse than the main food. Consistently disappointing across all restaurants and buffet areas, despite being widely available. 9. Beach access is unnecessarily split into zones. While there is a free beach area, it’s quite limited. There is also a premium zone with better sunbeds, and although it’s optional, the constant upselling of premium access (around $20) feels petty and unnecessary given the hotel’s overall pricing. 10. The other half of the staff felt indifferent or unhelpful, which created an inconsistent service experience overall.

My son is autistic and eats very limited items they worked with me every single day to ensure he had his safety food available throughout the day. I loved everything about this property. The employees all go above and beyond. Best stay I have ever had.
- Romeo Graf (9/5): Das Hotel und der Aufenthalt war sehr angenehm und ist auf jeden Fall zu empfehlen. - Wir waren schon oft in der Dom.Rep. haben aber noch nie so gut und vielfältig gegessen. Sehr gute Auswahl im Buffet und den verschiedenen Restaurants. Qualitativ war das Essen immer sehr gut und repräsentierte auch in europäischem Standard in Bezug auf Darstellung und Anrichtung. Das Hotel und die ganze Anlage ist sehr weitläufig aber sehr gut überschaubar. Die Grösse mit ca. 800 Zimmern verursachte natürlich auch viel Lärm. Insbesondere in den meisten Restaurants war der Schallpegel einzelner Gruppen derart hoch, dass wir diese Restaurants gemieden haben. In den Hotelgängen ist der Lärm vor allem in der nacht, wenn die Partygänger dann zu den Zimmern kommen, sehr störend.

- hungbob (10/5): Great place for vacation. - While not all employees have the needed subject matter expertise and some lack work ethics, the good ones are making it a hotel we enjoyed. Mr. Starling went above and beyond and supported us well beyond his working hours and in the spa Ms. Erika, Ms. Yesica and Josslyn were excellent.
- mcfee (6/5): Good butler / ok food - Came on 27/12/25 . Checked in as preferred club . Starling was our butler. He gave us a good tour of hotel, and all information needed to start us off. Room was. Nice. But had an old smell and the bathroom needs updating.I cleaned the jacuzzi as it was filthy, I used dishwasher tabs and a flannel to get green slime out of jets ! The food is not brilliant, same for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurants are a scrum to get a table with no organising! Thank god for starling who what’s app every morning when I got up and checked on us , sending extra fruit to the room and helping with restaurants.

Most upsetting was how my 12-year-old neurodiverse daughter (autism, ADHD, language delay) was treated. She was excited and happy, yet a security guard aggressively said “do not touch me”, when she wanted to ask him a question causing her distress. There was zero understanding of additional needs. What began as a light-hearted, festive teddy bear moment during the Christmas period was escalated completely out of proportion. Teddy bears were openly scattered throughout the Breathless area, staff were laughing as I walked around with one, it was big so there was no way it would of been taken out of the hotel let alone in a suitcase. It was left fully visible to housekeeping, never hidden, and clearly never intended to leave the resort. Despite this, we were later treated as though we had committed a serious offence banned from Breathless and if one more incident removed from the resort over a $10 teddy bear. Even senior management we spoke with at New Year’s Eve party were visibly surprised by how this was handled. Considering we paid £3,700 per person and there was nine of us , the escalation of a fun-hearted moment into a disciplinary issue was, frankly, absurd. The behaviour of Ana from the concierge team was shocking when I complained about the way she spoke to my husband and brother in law and about how my daughter was treated. She mocked me, pulled faces, made sarcastic comments, clapped at me, and implied that because my child “isn’t missing a limb” she wouldn’t know she has a disability. Not all disabilities are visible this was discriminatory and unacceptable. We were also previous Preferred Guests, and our former butler encouraged us to contact him if we returned. When we did, he attempted to request money via WhatsApp before arrival a deeply concerning experience that should never happen under a reputable resort brand. Which I’ve attached a picture of this. While housekeeping and some bar staff and animation were excellent (Shadow, Carlos, Gene, Natalie), management, concierge, food quality, and daytime entertainment around the pool have declined significantly since our last visit, likely due to a change in management. I’ve attached a picture of the uncooked meat we had which was duck. The food concierge lady was shocked and said she would sort something but never did. On New Year’s Eve, we were also subjected to upselling that felt inappropriate and poorly handled. We were told that in order to have a VIP table we had to purchase a bottle, which we accepted. However, once staff realised we were a group of nine (six adults and three children), we were then told we must purchase two bottles £150 Per a bottle.When we questioned this reasonably asking how six adults were expected to consume four litres of vodka, especially with children present, we were told we could “take it home to the uk,” which was neither realistic nor appropriate. We queried where this requirement was advertised or communicated in advance, as it was not displayed anywhere. Only after raising this with management were we reluctantly offered a table under 1 bottle , not in the location we had originally requested. As the evening progressed, we did purchase additional bottles voluntarily, but the experience left us feeling that sales targets were prioritised over guest experience, which did not sit well with us. I come to the DR frequently to visit friends and family. I’ve stayed at the hard rock Royalton and bahia Esmeralda and here and have to say this was one of the worse visits I’ve experienced. If you have neurodiverse children or family members with additional needs, I strongly advise against staying here. The lack of training, empathy, and professionalism is alarming. We will not be returning.

- V7503OAjuancarlosl (2/5): Terrible experience - Terrible experience – unsafe and unprofessional hotel This was one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. From the moment we arrived, the staff was rude, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. The woman who checked us in was especially hostile and made us feel unwelcome from the start. Multiple rooms did not have hot water, which is unacceptable for a resort at this price level. These issues were never properly fixed. The most serious and alarming incident was that $200 USD were stolen from the room safe. We reported this immediately, expecting the hotel to take the situation seriously. Instead, the staff was extremely rude, dismissive, and defensive. The hotel refused to take responsibility, offered no real investigation, and provided zero support. This made us feel unsafe and ignored. A hotel where money disappears from a safe and management shows no interest in helping guests is not a place we can recommend. Between the poor service, lack of basic amenities, and complete lack of accountability, this resort failed completely. We strongly advise future guests to think twice before staying here and to be very cautious with their belongings.

The beach is amazing, clean towels throughout the day whenever you want a fresh one, buffet breakfast is amazing, the rooms are big and beds are so comfy
- Y2494YNsm (10/5): Family Friendly - Would definitely do it again! - Our family had an amazing time here. It was our first time in DR, and everything was made easy. We organized pickup with Amstar which took us to the hotel. As Preferred Club members, we checked in at a different lounge which was very comfortable and had snacks and drinks available while we waited. Overall, we loved 75% of the food at the resort. The best meal was the hibachi at Spices (you must made a reservation) and next time we would probably try to eat here 2x. Our worst meal was at Cin Cin. We enjoyed the steakhouse and Italian restaurants as well. The Carnival buffet was overall fairly good. We did not utilize room service so not sure if that would have changed our opinions on the food. The ocean was great, 80s water temperature with enough waves to keep the kids (and adults) entertained. The pool water was definitely cooler but they have a lot of activities that go on around the main pool to keep people engaged. The hot tub was also very popular. Other things to note: be prepared to walk. Everything is flat but things are spread apart. We enjoyed that for our family as a way to get steps in, especially if you are eating so much! They had an awesome arcade game / bowling room that my kids enjoyed. Be prepared to tip everyone that helps you, just a few singles here and there.
- ellieg2026 (4/5): Bad staff experience - I was at this resort for two weeks and just returned home, left feeling underwhelmed and disheartened. The staff overall seem unhappy and sad to be at work. After having interactions with senior members of staff I now know why. Ana at the front desk is someone who has stood out to be particularly unhelpful and rude. We had multiple issues with our room and was met with no understanding, an u willingness to help and overall sarcasm. The entertainment has also been underwhelming. Apart from this there are various members of staff who always take a pleasure in making sure we had a pleasent stay! We appreciate that they have worked through family holidays and are greatful for their service !
- ireneo2026 (10/5): Great family getaway - This is a great all inclusive getaway for families. It has something for everyone. We had 5 children from 2 to 11 years old that had so much fun between the beach and water parks and the arcade. The nightly live entertainment was fun. The workers were so pleasant and helpful. We liked the food in the Mediterranean and Italian restaurants. We would've liked to go to the hibachi restaurant but they don't allow children under 12 at the cooktop table. The steakhouse was a letdown. The kids liked the Carnival eatery for the wide array of foods. They even had a vegan section that my daughter enjoyed. Overall we had a great time.

- stepheng484 (10/5): Paradise and a Great Value, All-inclusive Resort - The place is a paradise, adjoining a great beach. It's a massively accommodating place (pools of all sizes, shapes and depths, perfect for young and old, swimmers and aqua gymmers), including an aqua park which was splendid. The service levels are high, the staff friendly and helpful and the suites (our family occupied three) well designed. The breakfast buffet is the widest range I've seen and, if a little over-stocked with sugary items, has good stuff for foodies too. Our only criticisms surround the several "special" restaurants - their offerings are mediocre at best - and the fact that they are mostly unreservable, which caused chaos/frustration in the evenings, especially if you're a large group (we were 10) with very young grandchildren to feed. All in all though, excellent value and a real experience.
