Guest Reviews
- J David (7/5): A comfortable convenient location with a friendly and helpful host - Quiet location close to the Main Street of the township
- Scott (9/5): excellent - Breakfast was great and so was the location
- Yi (9/5): Authentic, rustic and charming hidden gem - Host was really lovely. The room was nice and cosy and the general premises included a theatre, games room, and lounge which were really nice touches. We also really enjoyed the authentic vintage and rustic aesthetic. Bit of a hidden gem The shower took a good few minutes to heat up and some of the power ports didn't seem to work - but these are minor nitpicks.
- Debbie (9/5): Was a wonderful experience, would definitely stay there again. - The heritage building was a complete surprise, the decor was amazing, to have extra rooms and space to use was wonderful, The local information given by the hosts concerning our evening meals was spot on, and very valuable, since the local town didn't have anywhere to eat the nights we were there. We were also contacted about leaving a jumper behind and it was posted on to us with willingness. Too many pillows on the bed and nowhere to put them out of the way (this was why the jumper was forgotten as the pillows were accidentally put on it). Other than for breakfast there was no quality coffee on offer, there was just about every flavour of tea bag known to man which was great, but not so for the coffee, instant nescafe was it. Robert Timms coffee bags, Moccona sachets, for eg, would improve the options.
- Bronwyn (10/5): -
- Ory (8/5): - Quaint little guesthouse. Very nice hostess. The fact that it used to be a hospital/aged care facility was evident in the room- especially in the bathroom and made us a little uncomfortable.
- Kaye (9/5): A pleasant place to stay. - A plesant place to stay - definitely a quiet country destination. A little bit dated but maybe that's the charm of the place! Breakfast was delightful. No shampoo/conditioner provided - usual things that are provided.
- Daniel (7/5): -
- Madeleine (9/5): Beautiful property and comfortable sleep - Beautiful guesthouse with lovely antiques. The breakfast in the dining room was very nice. The bed was very comfortable as well. It was raining when I visited but the outdoor area looks like a lovely spot to sit out with a drink. Nothing, everything was great
- Emmeline (9/5): -
- Ava (10/5): - It had a lot of character, the hosts were really friendly and attentive, the breakfast was really good (and free!), there was tea and coffee available, and the beds were so comfortable (they had heating pads!). The town is also really cute, with a market on Sunday and good cafes. The shower toiletries only consisted of one 3 in 1 shower gel, so bring your own if you prefer separate shampoo and conditioner.
- Teri (10/5): - The breakfast was lovely, as were the hosts, who were exceptionally kind and helpful. The whole house was charming and we had a wonderful stay.
- Tischa (9/5): -
- Amanda (9/5): Perfect guesthouse for a weekend in the Otways - Very welcoming host, spotlessly clean, inviting lounge/kitchen/dining made meals easy Pillows could do with an upgrade
- Jacqui (6/5): -
- Marko (9/5): -
- Barbara (10/5): hospitable. - Wonderful hospitable place for preparing for a wedding on the weekend!
- Naomi (9/5): - The only improvement would be air conditioning
- Susan (10/5): -
- Simboa (10/5): Fantastic vintage accomodation - Staff demonstrated great hospitality and friendly
Has many facilities, common rooms and games available Nil

- Michael (7/5): Stay here for the charming living areas, not the bedroom - The Owner, Jenny, was marvellous. The old-world charm of the living spaces is the highlight of this accommodation. Playing Pool was such a great change to the regular accommodation experience. The bedroom is the area for criticism. We found the bed very firm (Rm 2). The bathroom is an old hospital handicap railed en-suite with an open plastic curtained shower area. The breakfast is simple
- Fisher (8/5): -
- Max (10/5): - Character and friendly people
- Lars (8/5): -
- Alan (8/5): -
- Emily (9/5): Would definitely come stay again, loved the place and the experience. - Super uniquely beautiful house, have never seen or experienced a place like that before and Jenny was very nice and accomodating. The place has all the facilities you could need and then some. Would’ve stayed here more nights if i could!

- Lynn (10/5): A place to return too - Jenny our host was so lovely. Showed us to a beautiful room. Showed us around this amazing house and told us the history. Lots to eat for breakfast with nicely laid out tables and Christmas decorations. Nothing we didn't like.
- Jacqui (10/5): - Very quaint. Lots of little nooks to chill out in. Loved how the guest house was decorated.
- Anoop (10/5): -
- Norm (9/5): Inviting and a great stay. A step away from the rush of life and a trip down nostalgia lane. - Was nice and inviting and a walk from our event in the main street. Presentation very well done and very welcoming. Good to speak with staff about other travellers adventures and ideas behind the restoration of the building.
- Simon (8/5): -
- Shaun (9/5): Nice quirky place to stay. - I like that it’s a quirky guesthouse that is comfortable. The beds mattress could have been better.
- Alistair (7/5): First experience in a guest house. It was pretty good. - Breakfast was good. Location was close enough to the wedding we attended. We only stayed overnight before leaving early for the drive back to Sydney the next morning. The bed was old and worn out.
The wall socket was broken on one side of the bed.
- Daniel (9/5): -
- deb (9/5): -
- Brooke (9/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Great - Great place Nothing
- Judith (10/5): It was a lovely place to stay, and close enough to the sites in the area as long as you have a car. You also need a car - Beautiful classic guesthouse, bed-and-breakfast environment. The bedrooms and beds were very comfortable and attractive. Very nice Continental breakfasts! Books to read, a movie room to watch DVDs and VHS. A room to play pool. Beautiful little gardens around the house. There was a hotel restaurant in “town” (very tiny) with excellent food, walking distance away. There was also a train with walking distance to take us to the nearest big town of Colac. There were no restaurants open in the tiny town on Monday night. The WIfI was finicky. It requires a car to get to the Otway area sites, but the distances were not unreasonable at all.
- David (10/5): Quaint comfortable overnight stay, very enjoyable - Friendly owners/staff Older bathroom facilities
- Halpewattage Rajeev Thushara (9/5): -
- Sparks (8/5): Friendly host with great facilities -

- Jasmine (10/5): Exceptional - Jenny was an excellent host. It is such a unique historical space and they've obviously poured a lot of heart into creating a lovely experience for guests.
- Tony (10/5): Delightful. - Lovely hosts. Exceptional service. No complaints.
- Clare (5/5): Passable - Convenient for our needs, friendly staff. TVs with Netflix, decent breakfast. Everything was quite “tired”. Needs a really good make-over.
Over-priced, but it was a public-holiday long weekend.
- Lindsay (7/5): Good -
- Alison (10/5): Very welcoming hosts, sharing their historical home, wish we had had more time.Thank you very much - A lovely quirky property, well maintained and with very welcoming hosts. Unusual entertainment - pool table, darts, old time cinema room.
- Yubaraj (1/5): Terrible at the end. I and my friends are deeply hurt the way we were treated. - Nothing I have to say. The owner was a very rude guy. He was racist. He is a multi-faceted guy. He treated us very badly. I wish no one else from my Nepalese community and other community goes there.
We were supposed to check out at 10 am but he knocked at our door at 6:30 and started shouting “Leave my house, leave my property. Go away! Get the hell out of here.” We were shocked. I have left the review in google as well. I can’t explain how much we are hurt from his behaviour. He yelled at my brother. Disrespected us. But we didn’t say anything back to him. We were supposed to have breakfast, we paid for it, but instead of getting breakfast he treated us so badly and asked us to leave way before our check out time.
Even in the night time, he was noticing our moments and what we were doing secretly, we were a bit uncomfortable the way he was doing that.
Overall that family and specially the owner was racist and want to pull us down because of our colour.
Deeply hurt. I wish no one will ever go there. Please guys. You have a lot of other better options.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Lindsay (7/5): Great for an overnight stay - Loved it had be repurposed from an old Hospital Breakfast could have had more variety
- Tessa (7/5): charming old fashioned and interesting guesthouse - atmosphere accessible bathroom would have been inadequate had i needed a shower
- Jenny (9/5): Enjoyable! - Quiet, private and great location. Nothing
- Felicity (7/5): Good -
- Niall (10/5): Quintessential - Existential Nothing
- Niall (10/5): Quintessential - The essence of rural Australia Nothing
- Rachel (7/5): Good - Traditional bnb in a cute town close to Great Ocean road, with quick access to motorway. A bit dated and could have been cleaned more thoroughly.
- Siobhan (10/5): Wonderful. I'll be back. - Homely ambience.
- Ken (7/5): Good -
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional - Great facilities including pool table and home theatre NA
- Liz (10/5): Exceptional - Step back in time, to true country hospitality. The guesthouse has old world charm, very comfortable, great shower, plentiful continental breakfast. Great sitting area inside and out for a relaxing stay. Nothing
- Murphy (8/5): Very good - Lovely location and comfortable stay Nothing
- Vanessa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (9/5): Comfortable and close to town and Jenny picked us up from our lunch at Brae - Proximity to town and friendliness of the owners Nil
- Tracey (9/5): Superb - Very comfy and homely.
- Heather (9/5): It was pleasant I loved the old world charm and found it relaxing - Excellent I liked what was offered and the dining room was very pleasant room too I felt it was a little stuffy in bedroom I was in but I was able to open a window
- Kuniko (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly owner and beautiful bed & breakfast
- Rob (8/5): Very good - Breakfast was simple, but satisfactory. Facilities were very nice, with lots of spaces available for guest use. Recommendation for dinner at a local restaurant was excellent. Airconditioning in the Guesthouse would be nice, although a very hot night was bearable with the pedestal fan and the high ceilings.
- Daniel (8/5): Had a very comfortable short stay for a cycling event. Staff were really helpful and accommodating. - Lots of nostalgia and local history. Really well done-interesting and good fun.
- Bavaro (9/5): Superb -
- Geary (2/5): Very poor -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isla (9/5): Superb -
- Adrian (10/5): We'll be back - We could only stay one night, but look forward to going back. It's a unique guest house full of history. You feel so welcome there. We enjoyed having a game of pool and a sociable breakfast.
- Sue (9/5): A wonderfully comfortable stay in a unique accommodation of a local village - The location was perfect for being off the beaten track. There is a lovely walk from the park and sufficient eating places to have a small choice. The hosts were wonderful. We really enjoyed the breakfast of fruit, yoghurt, cereals and toast. A perfect start to the day. We used the kitchen facilities and ate in one evening which was a lovely change from eating out the previous few weeks. The wifi was excellent and the bed was comfortable. Despite feeling remote it was quite close to bigger towns and the main sights on the Great Ocean Road The tv signal was intermittent sometimes but not too disruptive
- Rachel (6/5): A country location with excellent breakfast and friendly staff. - It’s a quirky property with many features of its previous life as a hospital. Friendly helpful staff, peaceful and quiet location, outside seating area is pleasant, comfy bed, lots of hot water, choice of spaces to sit inside.
Breakfast was excellent with fresh homemade produce, a perfect start to the day. The restaurant in town recommended by the host was seriously good with fabulous food. The bathroom was still hospital /nursing home style and would benefit from upgrading to modern facilities. Despite this there was plenty of hot water and lovely towels.
- Clarke (10/5): I loved how friendly the owners were, and the bed was SO comfortable, we nearly missed breakfast because we couldn’t get - I LOVED that they had a pool room and an old fashioned movie theatre! My partner and I found friends during our stay and we all watched ‘the wolf of wall street’ after dinner at a local restaurant I think the shower head was a little bit difficult to work with, my partner is tall so he had to be careful. Maybe a small wardrobe or drawers to put clothes in (we stayed in the deluxe queen i think) we had to leave our clothes in our bags
- Stefan (9/5): Great Place from the time past - This place is some special if you like the time past .All looks like 1920-30 I just loved it .Entering the long old Hallway witch includes a great Breakfast room ,and old cinema ,a Poolbilliard room and moore .Internet great all was fine lovely host .If I come again thats my place to stay -----------
- Rudiger (8/5): Wonderful place for travelers looking for an unique experience - Reminds of a classic good old English countryside B&B. The interior furniture and decorations are more like a museum but in a good way and makes one feel travelling back in time. Comfy old furniture in perfect condition and are well kept. We loved it. Als sorts of deco items make the stay to a real experience. Its a great place to chill and relax after a roadtrip along the Great Ocean road. In the region there are quite some attractions worthwhile to be visited. The owner provides a lot of practical advice. Its great for a one or two day stay.
Very friendly owner, easy and very helpful.
We would book it again anytime. Cannot think of any
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (9/5): Wonderful B&B - would definitely stay again if ever in the area. - The Butlers Guesthouse was not conveniently located for our travels this time, however we did not mind the drive. Jen the host was lovely and very friendly. Our rooms were clean with plenty of hanging spaces. We really appreciated the breakfast which was a great start to our day. The fruit salad was so yummy! Our rooms came with a separate private bathroom which we were thankful for, however we found it difficult to contain the water within the boundaries of the shower (and to keep the shower curtain from moving outside the rubber boundaries). By the time 3 showers were had, the bathroom floor had become wet and we were sorry about the wet mat !
- Maïté (5/5): Passable -

- Alison (8/5): Very good - Jenny was a lovely host. We enjoyed chatting about the history of the guesthouse. The fire in the lounge made for a warm welcome. We were lead to our room which was also warm and welccoming. The room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable, and the amenities were accessible. Jenny advised us of local activities that were happening while we were in Birregurra. Breakfast was a continental option consisting of toast and fruit, cereal, and yoghurt followed by cooked bacon, eggs, and tomato.🤤😋 Jenny's communication was clear and we never had any uncertainty about anything. An enjoyable stay and would happily stay again and spend more time exploring the grounds and making use of the pool room and the movie room.
