- guillermo (4/5): - Very old and out dated property. Water from shower and bath sink smelled bad. The only aspect that could revert the negative was Ira, the front desk attendant, who went above and beyond! Infrarred Sauna and lounge furniture around is disgusting. Property must be remodelled and be up to the standards of surrounding hotels.

The rooms did get quite stuffy/ warm and there were no fans/ air. We opened the window, which helped, however the nice weather outside (yay) made the inside quite warm. Overall, would stay again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It’s okay hotel but looking at the price (Iceland is generally costly anyway), I would hesitate to stay here again as the bathroom wash basin sink was smelly; there was no restaurant in site for the dinner available; was told that the restaurant opens for the dinner only for a travel group and if there is none, then the restaurant is closed which makes inconvenient for the family as this hotel is away from the main city centre area; fine if you have your own car. Breakfast is okay but very limited hot breakfast.

- Nalini (4/5): Do not stay here . Very noisy . - The hotel and room seems older but we were fine with that . There was a strange smell like candles being burnt to cover a bad smell. Our issue is they put us in a room below the ground floor next to the hot tub . We did not sleep that night . It was noise from the minute we got to bed until we just got up had breakfast and checked out. There was footsteps and furniture dragging above us plus constant talking in the hallway outside our room . Also loud noises of water like a giant toilet being flushed . I think this may be related to the hot tub . The front desk clerk did not seem concerned or offer to rectify .
- Elana (10/5): - We had a great stay in this family run hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and varied and we also enjoyed a simple 3 course dinner which we enjoyed. We had a soak in the outdoor hot tub which was a bonus

Location is fine but not really in walking distance of dining options. That being said, it was a quick drive to the center of the city with some great dining options.
- Sidney (4/5): - Pulling up to the hotel, we noticed the place looked dated and the grounds were messy. The check in area smelled of an antique store and the whole facility was dated. We got to the room and the first thing we noticed was the smell, it smelled of mold. Around the windows was dirty and moldy. The ceiling was discolored. The blanket had a stain on it. The carpets were gross.

The hotel is a long way out of town, beside the airport. However, the price was affordable & a decent breakfast was included.

The one suggestion for improvement would be to add a second sink to the common area, since there was only one shared bathroom. This is at the edge of town, up a hill. I would not recommend for those who don’t have a car. There is a hiking trail behind the property. It is quiet and pleasant.

- JOSEPH (10/5): Summer 2024 Summer Holiday - June 2024 Absolutely phenomenal and immaculately clean 3 bedroom, 2 bath cottage~ fully equipped with microwave, oven, stove, refrigerator, hot tub with back out shades, modern design/vibe, tranquil setting overlooking farm with beautiful Icelandic horses. Large living room area with huge flat screen smart tv with Amazon, Hulu, Disney +, and Netflix. Large cozy sectional couch in family room that could easily sleep multiple guests. Perfect stay for our family of 4. Highly recommend!
- Micayla (10/5): - Beautiful hotel!! We stayed for 2 nights and were totally charmed by its quaint feel. There is a free hot tub and sauna available to guests which is such a nice touch as well. Breakfast was also fantastic. Staff was so friendly and welcoming, one man at reception went the extra mile to walk with us and show us exactly where the sauna was when we arrived and got a little lost- thanks so much for that!! Room was perfect for what we needed it for and you are only about an 8 min drive to the city center. You also get a beautiful view from your room :) highly highly recommend!

These are not ordinary cabins, these are small homes with a geothermal hot tub set in a small community setting. There is even your own bbq on a huge deck. We would absolutely comeback… only next time use the cabin as our base camp for the north!

- Harry (6/5): Not a $450 a night hotel - This is not a $450 a night hotel. It is basically a fancy version of a youth hostel. The rooms are tiny. The hotel is dirty with dead plants in the hallway windows and flies on the windowsills. The door we were told to enter through was blocked by dumpsters and trash bags. The entire hotel smelled bad. The elevator was unusable due to the odor. The outdoor seating area was dirty and dilapidated. Laura at the desk was very nice , but couldn’t help. I asked to cancel the reservation, but she was unwilling. We were in Iceland three weeks. Every hotel was great. Look at my other reviews as I post them. I have never posted a bad review until now. This hotel would have been okay at $200 a night.

- Tiffany (4/5): Dirty hot tub, overall disappointing - We were extremely excited to stay in one of the private cottage at Hotel Kjarnalundur. We got off to a rough start with unclear directions about how to get to the cottages from the hotel - a simple map at the front desk would have been enormously helpful. After attempting to find it ourselves, we had to return to the front desk and ask for an escort, who showed us to our place. When we got inside it was clean and just as pictured, exactly what we expected. But we booked this stay for the private hot tub. As soon as I turned the water on, dirt and debris flowed out of the drain. We ran about a foot of water that was very dirty, then snapped some pics and drove back to the desk to ask for assistance. She handed us some towels, said to let it drain, and try again. We went to dinner and when we returned we wiped out all the dirt and once again tried to fill the hot tub. Same issue. We filled the tub halfway and the water was finally running clear, but we had no way to clean the tub expect to drain it again and start the whole process over. At this point we were tired, wet (outside in December), and it would have taken another 2+ hours to drain, refill, and heat the tub. We gave up. My request for a partial refund due to this unusable amenity was not honored. I had planned a lovely and relaxing night for my family and with the hours spent trying to get the hot tub working it turned into the worst stay of our trip, and the most expensive. I would not go back.

- Mathew (10/5): - Excellent choice of hotel if you're staying around the Akureyri area. The level of service from all the hotel staff was exceptional! Going above and beyond to please their guests and ensure everyone was satisfied. Rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. Hotel is only a short drive away from the main town centre while also being ideally situated far enough to have a chance at seeing the Northern Lights. We were lucky enough, with the guidance of hotel staff, to see the Northern Lights - and during a summer month! While the lights were barely visible from the city centre, staying at this hotel was the perfect choice as there was minimal light pollution. Left us with memories we'll forever cherish. Will definitely stay here again on another trip around Iceland.

We were pre-warned about the sulfur-smelling showers, but it still was hard to deal with. Housekeeping was poor as well - trash and used tea cups were left as-is after they were done.

The bed was comfy, but none of our lights or the tv worked unless we had the bathroom light on. Was a bit frustrating. The shower water was smelly. Smelled of sulphur. One big plus is they stressed quiet while in the hallway containing rooms. I loved that.

- Jasmine (6/5): Average stay in Akureyri - Overnight stay in Akureyri while touring northern Iceland. This hotel had nothing fabulous about it. Cleanliness was below average for Iceland. It was hard to find an outlet in the room to recharge our smart phones. We eventually had to disconnect the TV to free an electric outlet. There was not enough room to lay 2 suitcases on the floor. We had to unpack one at a time.

When we arrived after a long drive, the front desk staff informed us that the restaurant was booked for a tour group and couldn't accommodate 3 people. We then asked for recommendations and they reluctantly gave us a few.

The only thing that was disappointing is that I tried to check-in about 2 hours early since check-in is at 4:00 p.m. When I showed up they told me to come back in 20-30 minutes. When I came back, there was a different person and he asked me why did I want to check-in early. I told him I was tired and he said to come back in another 40 minutes or so. By the time I got to check-in, it was basically time for my check-in so it just sucked having to wait in the car since they fed me different times. By the way, I saw them let other people that arrived after I did get keys to their room. That made me feel a bit discriminated against.

While I was talking to her she just stopped and started talking on the phone and I just stood there. Room was small and the blackout curtains didn’t cover the entire window. Pillows were too small not comfortable at all.

We were put in the basement floor, where several of the staff stayed - this would be OK if that hotel was actually full. But it was not. The fixtures kept falling apart, the light switch plates fell off every time we turned on or off the lights. More than taking care of the paying guests, the manager seemed more interested in taking care of the geriatric club that assembled to play cards for the evening. We had to unfortunately stay on this property for two nights travel bookings- what a waste!! PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE!!

- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stayed in a three bedroom, self catered cottage. This is in a quiet location a couple of minutes drive from the hotel. The cottages are spacious with comfortable furniture and large veranda ideal for northern lights watching.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - lovely luxury stop over for us. large cottage. a few things that would have made it perfect - a snow scoop/shovel- we made it up to the cottage, but the hottub etc was under 2 ft of snow- i understand it might not be possible for staff to clear regularly - but a shovel so we could still access the facilities would have been useful. instructions on tv would have been helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Note that there is a hotel and (brand new!) cottages available at this property. We stayed in a cottage and it was absolutely gorgeous! Very spacious, beautifully furnished. Hot tub on porch, 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, kitchen/DR/LR, laundry, etc. Staff was helpful and very nice. Highly recommended.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed in the three bedroom cottage. It is so nice and extremely spacious. The kitchen includes a full size refrigerator, oven, stovetop and microwave so we were able to cook all of our meals here. We also loved the hot tub!! Would have been nice to have signage to direct you to the cottage as it was hard to find. Also, no TV reception for the 65” TV, but we were able to work on a puzzle that is there for guests to use.
- Jayne (10/5): - Had a great time in Akureyri. The hotel is just past the downtown area. The staff are friendly and helpful. It’s nice and quiet with outdoor hot tubs and an infra red sauna. Great stay!
- hlp (10/5): - Lovely small hotel, just a few minutes drive from the city center. Very convenient and comfortable rooms, pleasing king beds, and excellent bathrooms. Hotel has small charming back garden, breakfast is on the second floor where you have lovely view. Friendly and polite staff, ready to help Highly recommended, definitely would visit again when I travel again in the area.

- Karen (10/5): Tiny but comfortable n clean - This place was very tiny room but had most everything I needed. Would like to had a fridge but really it was very nice. The check in n check out was speedy. Just pick up n drop off keys.

- Andrew (8/5): Solid - Hotel was well decorated, staff was friendly, and they even hired a bunch of rabbits to work in their front yard. Our room had a slightly musty smell, the TV didn't work, and neither did a couple of the lights, but it was clean, and had everything we needed. Breakfast was good, served for a long time, and they offered a very late check-out time.
- Darren (8/5): - Approx 3kms south of town but with a car, no problem. Lovely hotel. Great breakfast. Only drawback was our room was tiny. Couldn’t even leave suitcase open, as no room. No table/bench. No room to put anything. Would definitely get a larger room if we stayed there again.

- Lysa (10/5): Comfy and clean - Breakfast was delicious. Overall, the stay was wonderful. We were able to use 1 of the 3 jacuzzis during our stay which they have drink service upon request. The location seems quite secluded and a 15 min drive into town.
