jb76orange (8/5): Great OG Kimpton in MKE but needs more Kimpton focus - My recent stay at The Kimpton Journeyman started off promising with excellent pre-arrival communication. I reached out via email before my visit, and the team was responsive and accommodating. As a top-tier IHG member, I was delighted to receive an incredible suite upgrade, which was a thoughtful gesture and much appreciated. Unfortunately, the positive momentum ended there. At check-in, the front desk experience felt impersonal and transactional. There was no acknowledgment of IHG status, no recognition of the milestone birthdays we were celebrating (the very reason for our stay), and no note, waters, or welcome amenity waiting in the room—small but meaningful details that Kimpton typically does so well. I had chosen to celebrate this special occasion at Kimpton precisely because of the brand’s reputation for warmth and personal touches, but sadly, it didn’t feel like much of a celebration. We had hoped to kick off the afternoon by relaxing with a drink at the hotel’s restaurant or rooftop bar, but around 2 p.m. we were told they weren’t serving at Tre Rivali—apparently because the person who makes drinks was on break. The Outsider was closed. It was disappointing, especially since we were eager to spend time (and money) enjoying the property. Even just being able to order a glass of wine or beer would have made a difference, but the lack of hospitality in that interaction was surprising and inconsistent with Kimpton’s usual service standards. To end the stay, valet service was another letdown. We texted for our car at 5 a.m., and it took nearly 40 minutes to arrive. There was only one other guest waiting, so the delay felt excessive. For $45 in overnight parking—especially for a stay under 14 hours—that kind of wait is hard to justify. Overall, while I appreciated the upgrade and pre-stay communication, the rest of the experience didn’t live up to Kimpton’s typically exceptional brand promise. I truly wanted to make this a celebratory start to a birthday getaway, but instead it felt forgettable. I hope this property can refocus on the small touches and genuine hospitality that make Kimpton so special. Location is great to the airport and to walk around town though.

I had left my phone in the car and we were racing to make it to a wedding. They ran and grabbed my phone for me and we made it to the wedding in time.

No coffe maker in room even it was confirmed with booking - comment: that is not standard. Supplied one and was not cleaned/replenished next day. Upon complaint, it was removed. Again to frontdesk and a new one was brought to room, but now NOT Nespresso, instead Chefwave-something with low quality coffee. Never heard anything from GM, even front desk staff reported it and I trust them Price/Performance ratio very bad an not worth $300+ per night.

The rooms are pricey, so it was a surprise to find bottles of water for purchase in our room rather than complimentary. I have stayed at lesser hotels that offer free bottles of water in the room.

janetkU5360MQ (4/5): Way overpriced, over-rated and disappointing. - The hotel was really a disappointment. It is highly overrated and not worth the exorbitant rate we were charged. The room was small and a bit cramped. The bathroom was ordinary, at best and although generally clean, there was brown scum around the base of the glass shower/tub enclosure. The “mood” lighting in the bathroom was impossible for putting on makeup. The service at the front desk was superficially polite, but indifferent when assistance was requested. The cost of parking was extremely high, even for the downtown area. The best part were the valet parking attendants, who were friendly and great.

I also used the valet service. All of them were awesome. I must say though, the young man Eugene was spectacular and inspiring. Even though He was wearing a boot and even though he tried to hide it was obviously in pain, He was very professional and helpful. He still did his job and did it well and even helped load up our bags, which I felt bad for but he insisted. He encouraged me in a way. He refused to allow anything to stop Him from moving forward. Those were his words to me and he showed it by his actions. And he did it all with a smile and class! This guy is amazing! He truly is an inspiration. He surely was to me!

The Historic Third Precinct is a beautiful place, the River Walk was delightful. The restaurant and bar in the hotel were fabulous. We have stayed at a couple other Kimptons in Denver, Colorado and this hotel was a bit more welcoming and did not nickel and dime you. We sat in the roof top bar and watched Monday Night Football, an experience in itself. Kimpton does a great job with their architecture and interior design. There are less expensive hotels near the airport, but you can easily catch the train to Chicago from here.

Duke (6/5): - There was an "event" going on and the street in front of the hotel was blocked off so I couldn't use the valet service and then got my car stuck in "event" parking. I asked about this possibility when I checked in and they said it would be fine but it was not.

joelle (9/5): The Journeyman offers a beautiful and comfortable stay, close to shopping, restaurants, and concerts - Excellent location, close to shopping and restaurants. The streets and sidewalks are clean and we felt completely safe walking at night. Bonus: this hotel is a 15-20 minute walk to the Summerfest concert venue. We saw a concert there and didn’t have to worry about parking or trying to get an Uber/Lyft. Super Bonus: We went for the weekend to celebrate my husbands birthday and there was a delicious piece of decadent chocolate cake , a bottle of champagne, and a card for him when we arrived in our room.
Verified traveler (6/5): Mediocre - Couldn’t get the TV to work and it was too late at night to call anyone. No kind of breakfast in the morning. You would think such an expensive hotel would have something other than coffee. I got laughed at when I went downstairs and asked if there were vending machines anywhere to get cold soda or water. There were 2 bottles of water sitting in the room that were $7 a piece. No thanks. Won’t ever stay here again.

70blakee (10/5): A getaway with friends - We had a wonderful stay at the Kimpton. It is right down where we wanted to be, walking distance from shops and restaurants. The evening wine and beer hour is an added treat. The rooms are nice and Trevor from the valet service was so awesome.

The right closet door did not open, it was stuck so we were unable to access the safe. We reported the issue however no repair was made, but we were only at the hotel 1 night.

The front desk crew always had a smile and greeted us with an offer to help. Luis was there when we got there and helped bring our luggage in and each and every time we left and came back he assisted my mil in and out of the cars. He was so helpful for the whole week. He’s a great ambassador for The Journeyman

However, the items were never delivered. When I called the hotel to inquire, my claim was questioned, which I found insulting. I ended the call due to the poor customer service.

I've been lots of places but the valet experience I received from Eugene and the awesome conversation I had with him surely made my day. He's a great guy and full of wisdom. He took valet and customer service to an entirely new level! Most definitely will be coming back again!

Denise (8/5): Summerfest 2025 - Staff was amazing at check in. Room was nice and clean and the bathroom (spa room) was exceptional. My only complaint was the noise level. There was no noisy neighbors or anything, just thin walls and doors so you could hear every door close and anyone walking down the hallway having a normal conversation. We stayed there for the proximity to summerfest and that did not disappoint.

LELFL (2/5): Would never recommend! - Old, tired rooms. I’ve never been in a room (of any brand, any price) that did not have an in-room coffee maker. Furniture in the room looks like it was purchased from a hotel close-out warehouse. TV doesn’t work properly. Bathroom fan doesn’t work at all.

Carol (3/5): Pretty hotel but missing standard comforts for a pricey stay - It’s pretty and the roof top is beautiful. It is close to the summerfest area where where we were headed. It was too expensive for the small size of the room given.i had asked for a microwave , fridge and coffee maker which seemed odd to have to ask for these items as they are usually standard in most hotels . As it turned out they do not provide coffee makers in the room. And there was no microwave as I requested and was told would be in the room.All in all I think the hotel should focus less on dogs and nursing mothers and remember to address standard needs of the general public staying at the hotel.

brandi (10/5): Amazing for families! - Kimpton is the best and this one was no exception. The location is amazing, the employees are incredibly accommodating and friendly, it’s a beautiful well kept hotel and room, and there are two on site locations to grab food. We have been to a lot of Kimpton’s, but this one might be our favorite! Perfect for kids and right across the street from a Ben & Jerry’s and a diner.
