Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff friendly and helpful, room spacious and clean.
- Jayce (4/5): You get what you pay for—opt to pay more - The riad was quite far from the entrance and we had to drag our bags over 5 minutes through the Medina to get to the riad. There also was a horrible stench right outside the riad. They were extremely nice once we made it inside the venture to get there just was not pleasant. The bathroom also did not have a door which was gross. Lastly their recommended transportation to and from the airport was overpriced and he was extremely rude.
- GIANNA (8/5): Experiencia...
- Steve (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay in Marrakech at Riad Assala. The staff were all really friendly and extremely helpful. When we arrived from the airport in the transport they had arranged for us Ahmed met us at our taxi and took our cases through the narrow streets to the Riad where we were greeted by Fatima and Mustafa and offered mint tea as we settled in. They were also very accomodating to my wife's need of a gluten free diet and provided us with delicious food (breakfast every day and some dinners). The location in the heart of the medina was great being within walking distance of most of the main tourist attractions. When we left they once again organised our transport to the airport and Ahmed helped take our cases to the pick up point ensuring that we and our luggage were safely aboard. We would heartily recommend Riad Assala to anyone visiting Marrakech.
Colazione ottima.
Servizio cordiale e attento
- TC (8/5): - Authentic Riad in very central location, albeit accessed by a small (dark) alley. Staff were brilliant for friendliness and helpfulness.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Heel mooi, proper en centraal gelegen ! Heel lieve personeel
- Chiara (10/5): - Lovely Riad in the heart of the Médina, close to the souk and other attractions. Staff friendly and able to speak English, Spanish, French and Arabic so comunication was excellent!! The Road was beautiful and in great condition, the bfast room/dining room lovely and relaxing. Bfast was excellent and included omelette, yogurt, maroccan bread with marmalade and honey, mint tea, coffe and orange juice.
Douche minder. Bed aan de kleine kant.
Perfecte ligging.
Prijs technisch helemaal goed
- Marcus/Shannon (10/5): - Let me start by saying I was a little nervous about using Expedia to pick us up at the airport and drop us off at the hotel. If you are anything like me don’t worry it work for us. I was extremely happy a repensative was sent to pick us up from drop off point. I do not know if they knew we wasn’t moving because it so busy when you are dropped off, but it was appreciated. This should be a norm for all guest if it’s not. Arrived and was greeted with open arms, the hotel staff really took care of us. They guide us every step of the way. They were very understanding of language barriers and found the person who spoke English well. The room was comfortable, beware the water is so hot. Loved it. Also the dinner was great on first night to get your bearing. I asked for a laundry mat and they even washed our clothes for a small fee which freed us up too enjoy more of Morocco. This was one of the best Raid we have stayed in. So if you book you shouldn’t be disappointed. Rooms are decent size for money, no tv but we not there too watch tv. Enjoyed our stayed and if we go back we will definitely book again. The bed was a little too firm for my taste, however it was clean.
- Donald (10/5): Super Riad!
- SK (10/5): - Ahmed & Fatima made our stay at Riad Assala. They were accommodating and kind, even with the language barrier. The riad itself is like a quiet refuge in the busy city. We loved it so much we booked with them again at the end of our stay. One thing to note: it’s a little tricky to find (you have to go down a few internal alleys). It’s helpful to download map.me app to give you precise directions.
- latifa (4/5): Not recommandabel - Many times i visited marrakech. This stay was my worst experience. I didnt experience NO service! The place smells. After the check in we went to the (bath)room smelled bad and very noisy.
After having a nice night out, I had to wait 10 minutes outside, trying to wake up the night shift to open the door for us! When laying in my bed half an hour later other people had the same. So I had to scream to the guy that he had to open the door. In the morning .. no one around for breakfast. We had to ask for our self. I was fed up with everything and I packed my stuff ( payed for 2 nights) after a whole debate, I still had to pay the city tax and ofcours no refund of the paid night or any other solution. So this was my experience.. for me as a Moreoccan, really this wasn’t the service and things I am proud of in Morocco! Never again!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Disappointing and not worth the money at all - We did NOT enjoy our experience at Riad Assala at all.
1) After making the reservation, Catherine emailed us to ask if we would like dinner arranged for our arrival. We followed up with her via email 5 times to ask re: menu, pricing and other details, but never heard back. When we arrived to check in, we were told that they had dinner ready for us. We weren't hungry and felt guilty for turning down food prepared for us; however it was $35 per person, and we did not want to pay that much for a dinner we didn't want. The staff insisted that we ordered it but we showed them our booking to confirm that we did not.
2) One night my husband fell ill and we couldn't go out for dinner. I asked the riad staff if they could order food delivery for me (since I don't speak french and most delivery places required an order in french), but they declined and said it wasn't allowed. I asked if they had anything at the riad I could eat (I was willing to pay); they said nothing was available. I went to bed hungry that night. I was extremely upset.
3) Overall, there was a sense of stinginess at the riad. Anytime we asked for something, the answer was no. No extra egg, no soap, no water. They were very rigid in their rules.
4) Make sure you get the hotel to arrange for pickup from airport or you will never find it yourself.
Positives: The staff was usually helpful and would go outside the riad to show us directions. They were nice people.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Ideale Lage in der Altstadt, prima Dachterrrasse, freundliches Personal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fijn verblijf in riad Assala!
- Elise-A (10/5): Un excellent séjour! - Un personnel accueillant et à l’écoute. Le Riad est magnifique. Nous avions la suite Doueria. Chambre spacieuse avec petit salon. Plafond magnifique.
- Fariborz (10/5): - Amazing Riad with genuine marockan details and flourishes. Attentive and friendly service. Close to souks and city center.
Mooi hotel, heerlijk ontbijt. Zeker een aanrader!!
- Danika (10/5): Great Stay - We enjoyed our stay at Riad Assala. Staff was friendly & helpful, space was clean, and in a great central location within the Medina.
Alles was man braucht
- Verified traveler (10/5): Parfait - Parfait
- Gary (8/5): Great location for walking everywhere and chilled. - Very quiet and chilled even tho very central. Staff very helpful and polite.
- Laura (10/5): Nice Riad in Marrakech - Really nice experience. Well located, the room was so cute, and the breakfast delicious. We are very happy :)
- Prettig verblijf, goede ontvangst, behulpzaam personeel.
- steve (8/5): In the centre of the Riad - Marrakech and rhe Riad Assala is like no place/hotel I've ever stayed. The hotel booked a taxi from the airport which has is essential (20 euros) as a) the driving and mopeds are crazy, worse than Rome by a factor of 10, b) you wouldn't find the hotel as it's stuck in the centre of the Riad, souk area hidden away in the maze of small lanes.
The taxi drops you at the edge of the Riad the Fatima comes to greet you and walk you in to the hotel. Take small notes with you and tip the porter about 20 drm.
The hotel itself is totally authentic Moroccan, not lavish like the newer hotels in the new town but an experience for I would say a max of 3 days. Do not expect a TVs or bath just expect warmth, friendliness and a good central point for exploring the Riad. The decor is brushed shiny concrete, patterned rugs vivid colours. There are 2 main roof terraces to relax on accessed via narrow staircases, a hamman and a beautiful courtyard for taking the local mint tea.
You are next door to a mosque so the call for prayer will wake you but that just adds to the atmosphere.
Breakfast is the basics of pancakes, omelette, local rolls and farms plus a yoghurt. Evening meal is traditional Moroccan Fabre basic but ok.
The souks are an assault on the senses in every way, the smells, noise and can be intimidating if you don't buy into the bartering process. Everything from a snack to a carpet is bartered, it can be exhausting on day 1, start incredibly low as they will start stupidly high.
- Susan (8/5): Vibrant break before Christmas - Short break prior to Christmas and loved it although found the huddle and bustle to be more tiring than I had expected and my daughter was a little overwhelmed with the constant shouts to go into their store
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hübsches Hotel in zentraler Lage - Sehr schönes Hotel im marokkanischen Stil. Zentral gelegen. Alle Sehenswürdigkeiten konnten zu Fuß besichtigt werden.
- Suem (8/5): Nice Riad - Riad Assala is conviniently located in the medina and a short walk to Jamaa El Fna square. Catherine and her staff are great. Breakfast was included and they were very acccomodating on days when you have early excursions.
Note: we stayed in the room that is above the front door of the Riad so it got pretty loud at night and in the morning. A few of the wall sockets did not work. The water pressure in the bathroom was not that great and we actually ran out of hot water one night right in the middle of my shower. The room was small so I feel like it would have been a better fit for a single occupant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful riad in the heart of Marrakesh Medina! - Very nice Riad close to all the action of Marrakesh while still providing quiet tranquility inside its walls. The customer service was great! Highly recommended!
