Guest Reviews
- Naude (8/5): - It is an old property, very affordable on a good location in the city. Safe parking, good food and best prices on our entire tour.
- MOHAMAD (6/5): Good & Clean - A Good Old Hotel... The staff is very friendly...Clean... spacious rooms ... affordable prices...I extended my stays for 2 more daya ... It is in the center of the town...
- Wilson (10/5): - The property is excellent. Put modern televisions with big screens in the premium rooms to make the rooms heaven on earth. Overally, Bulawayo Club is the place to be.
- Lorraine (8/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful. The receptionist, Reginald, helped me organise an excellentvtaxi friver for a day trip.in the surrounding area.
I stayed in winter and the room was freezing cold, too cold to sit in the room and no heaters were avaiable. Extra blankets were provided for the bed
- Henry Mantshi (10/5): - A place to stay when in Bulawayo. The service, staff friendliness and professionalism, security and location is unmatched
- Pacharo (6/5): Colonial beauty in the heart of the CBD - Beautiful rooms in a hotel in the heart of the Bulawayo CBD. Service from staff was excelleny and the food fantastic. Breakfast options were limited to full English breakfast. Hotel environs were not good but this is symptomatic of the CBD as a whole.
- Alexander (10/5): - The Bulawayo Club is a fantastic historic place to visit and the staff makes you feel absolutely welcome. The food was outstanding. The best Fish & Chips south of the Equator served along with great local Craft Beer. Certainly a place I would like to visit again in the future! Thank you!
- margaret (10/5): - Excellent old colonial hotel run by wonderful, professional and very approachable staff. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Very warm welcome which remained throughout my 5 day stay. A unique experience with the wonderful old gentlemens club with lots of rooms of rooms to explore topped off with wonderful staff.
- Gotz (10/5): - If you wish to experience a colonial area stay then this is “The Choice “
5 star
- Noel (8/5): - The Bulawayo Club is a delightful setting and a fascinating building offering a look into a very specific part of Bulawayo history. It does suffer a little from some ageing plumbing in some of the rooms. The location and the history of the building are fantastic. Dinner was great, although you need to be patient. Sitting by the fountain in the small courtyard was very pleasant. The staff were great and attentive. This is “dated elegance”!
- Madzinga (6/5): - The staff was welcoming
- patrick (10/5): Historic hotel downtown - Great historic hotel. Downtown location loved our stay, great customer service. But it is old but very cool
- Michelea (10/5): - The club is beautiful and the staff are superb. Cant speak highly enough. Especially Reginald at the front desk. The surrounding is typical noisy, dirty africa. Although certainly not as bad as Harare! But the Club is a quiet clean friendky oasis. Wonderful place to stay
- Dilxat (6/5): - They need to upgrade the hotel
- Peter (10/5): - Lovely old heritage hotel in the centre of town . Only a few guests so was very quiet. Staff were exceptional in terms of service .
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice stay in a historic building - Overall my stay went very well. Staff was very kind and ready to assist, the breakfast included was simple but tasty and the restaurant also provides quality. The room was comfy and spacious. The only drawback was that my room faced the main street which was very busy and noisy both Saturday and Sunday night. Monday was perfect though.
- Andile (8/5): - Place was clean… the staff was friendly.. good wifi. In my opinion a very centrally positioned place conviniently located. A retro building but good
- Angus (10/5): A great place to stay in Bulawayo - The building is well maintained and we really enjoyed our brief visit. The service was excellent.
- Hubert (10/5): - Food and service was excellent. We recommend oxtail. Brilliant.
- Kyle (10/5): 7 night stay in Bulawayo - I can’t recommend this place enough for anyone wanting to stay in Bulawayo. The service from the staff is second to none, they will go above and beyond for any and all inquiries, whether it was for help with sim cards and any Zimbabwe specific adapters, to arranging trips and taxis to the Matapos or anywhere else.
Likewise the food at the restaurant and for breakfast was very good, especially the breakfast. Although the steak may be considered pricey by local standards, paying $17 for a room service steak that was delicious and available late at night was a level of service beyond what i was expecting.
The one downside to the whole property were the showers. Not an issue for me as i take baths, but if you take showers the nozzle looked pretty dated and I’m not sure getting the temperature right would be an easy task, albeit I didn’t try, just an observation.
Place is gated for those with any security concerns, although the idea is fine, no sense of danger, as a male, can walk the streets at night as a foreigner without any drama.
Lastly, id you’re a rugby fan, a trip through the members area on the way to breakfast will become a 15 minute perusal of the history of rugby in Zimbabwe and Matabeleland, incredible memorabilia collection.
All in all, for value for money and enjoyment, I don’t think I’ve ever stayed at a better hotel in my life, would undoubtedly stay here again if i ever find myself in Bulawayo.
- Michael (10/5): Hotel bygone era. -Amazing - If you like a bit of yesteryear then this is the perfect hotel for you. The service amazing. Own massive balconies over a busy town.
Right in the centre of town
Hot water galore and the option eating in-house too.
- Rebecca (8/5): - The Bulawayo Club is an old gentlemen’s club converted into a hotel. The building is gorgeous and there is a lot of history on display. It is pretty noisy during the day due to its location in the center of downtown but it is very quiet at night. Wonderful staff and spare but nice rooms.
- Mary (10/5): - Property is in walking distance to nearby shopping!
- Ashley (10/5): Museum - A must if in Bulawayo. Incredible old building more like a museum than a Hotel. Yes showing signs of wear but the staff were excellent.
- Robert (10/5): A step back in time - Excellent service and food
- John (10/5): Loved this hote - Great place to stay with some old world charm.
- Victoria (8/5): Great accommodation - Really fabulous historical place still working as a members club. Fabulous staff and marvellous service. Great food and really friendly atmosphere
- Rachel (8/5): - Like stepping back in time, was quite an experience staying in this old gentleman's club!
The staff were brilliant, especially Brian, who went above and beyond to help me to help with, I can't thank him enough, he really helped make my stay in Bulawayo.
There were a few issues with the room, the bathroom could be updated, the shower was only a trickle and the TV didn't work the whole time I was there, they were waiting for a part from South Africa.
But overall i really enjoyed my stay here
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Bulawayo Club was a fascinating place to stay & whilst it has seen better days, the chance to stay somewhere that has so much history in the various rooms made it wonderful. The dining room is amazing, I felt I'd gone back in time. On our first evening there I spent time just wandering, looking at all the pictures on the walls (there are very many) & I was amazed at what I saw & the history they portrayed of times past. The staff were very attentive too. If you want to stay somewhere unique a stay here is a must. The only down side was the lack of water pressure in the shower.
- Lars-Olov (10/5): Museum - Lovely old place, with all the old stuff well taken care of.
Like traveling back in time.
- barry (10/5): History not to be missed - History breathes. A monument to former times a
- Verified traveler (10/5): - An iconic hotel transporting you to days gone by. Full of teak, historical artifacts yet a hotel of today offering comfortable accommodation at a very fair price. The staff could not have been better and the food was great.
- Graham (10/5): - Lovely place to stay while in Bulawayo. The hotel is full of history, like staying in a museum. The far best feature is the staff, they were always friendly and attentive. We would have been lost without the advice they gave us. Well worth a stay.
- Duncan (8/5): - A wonderful opportunity to experience the good old days. Very pleasant and happy staff.
- Nhlanhla (8/5): Excellent service - Good service. Wish they can fix the lift as the steps are tiring. Staff friendly and very helpful.
- JANA (8/5): recent business trip to Bulawayo - very interesting indeed. very old and was certainly classy at one time needs modernizing in the rooms but was steeped in History and character. food was good too.
Bed was so soft and falling into a deep sleep was wonderful. traffic noise early mornings and people talking going by but was worth the stay, and will use this again and again
- Angela (10/5): Wonderful experience - Located in a superb old colonial building in central Bulawayo. We loved everything about the club. Brian, as manager, can take a bow for for the excellence of all his staff, but honestly, Nyasha really steals the show. He is truly a delight.
Very comfortable rooms, good food, great location. Do yourself a favour - book in and enjoy a unique piece of living history.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bare bones room but the building is an incredible piece of history.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Colonial look with lot of history - Staff very friendly went out of their way to help will recommend highly
- Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful historical place - Like stepping back in time, beautiful authentic British club. Located in the center of town. Friendly helpful staff, great breakfast. Fast internet.. Id definitely come back here.
- Diana (8/5): Beautiful old character hotel - Amazing place to stay, lovely friendly helpful staff and really good food. Good central location. Only bad points were that the ancient lift does not work and there are a lot of stairs and the showers are hopeless due to water pressure problems in Harare.
- Nick (10/5): Comfort in Bulawayo - An excellent place to stay, superb staff, friendly atmosphere and steeped in history - well worth a visit and thank you to the dedicated staff for looking after us extremely well.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A colonial hotel in the city centre - This is a beautiful colonial hotel which in its heyday would have been spectacular. However, due to lack of clientele it has not had the funds to keep up with the expectations of international travelers yet it charges a high tariff. If they were to fix plumbing and drop their rates they would find that this would bring in more tourists. We were the only couple staying. How sad for the wonderful staff and such an historic building.
- John (8/5): Charming decor, helpful and courteous staff. - A terrific interlude, enjoying the atmosphere of colonial style accommodation and dining.
Lifts were out of order, which made movement between floors a bit of a struggle.
- Paul (10/5): The perfect place to stay in Bulawayo: delightful - An excellent few days in this national treasure. The staff were excellent and couldn't have been more helpful.
- Jeff (4/5): I saw a mouse - Bad start - Visa cards not accepted. Restaurant kitchen closes at 8.00pm. One sweet arrived 15 minutes after everyone else had finished sweet and coffee.
TV didn't work. No air con.
Both taps on the sink are marked C (but to be fair we could only get cold water from both of them)
Bathroom very dirty, bedroom very dirty, stair carpets dirty and to top it all we came across a mouse on the stairs in broad day light.
This place would make a great museum but is outdated over rated and over priced as a hotel.
- Tyler (10/5): Historic Beauty - Beautiful hotel. We loved all the history of the gentlemen's club. The service is superb. We would have stayed longer only we could not get any cash out of the banks-just like everyone else in Zimbabwe. Rooms were very clean and spacious! The food was also very good and at a great price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Bulawayo Club - a trip back to the "good old days" - Staff very friendly and helpful!
The whole hotel has a setting from the Colonial time. Interesting to experience!
- Chris (8/5): Good base in Byo - We had an extended stay at this hotel and felt very safe and welcome.
