Guest Reviews
- jacqueline (1/5): So disappointed that we didn’t stay we book into another holiday. - Nil Tight parking damage my car.
Reception poor, reception area dark and dingy staff not very welcoming, all areas very cold especially bedroom.
- Anthony (8/5): effective hotel, good value and great location -
- Keith (8/5): Economically run hotel - Great location in the centre of Rhayader
Lovely home made curry They don’t offer hot cooked breakfast any more, just cold continental selections and local baked products (tea cakes) etc serve yourself.
My room wasn’t serviced during my 4 night stay
- Gillian (5/5): Stay was pleasant breakfast needs a small improvement - Clean & the lady with the brown hair who greeted us was so lovely sorry didn’t get her name Breakfast included was literally toast & cereal that was it
- Mark (4/5): Good place needs work - Good location good food Shower was uncontrollable far too hot and the bath taps didn’t work
- Alan (7/5): - Quiet and I slept well Only continental breakfast, quite a bit of maintenance needed (shower door didn't close, TV signal needed aerial cable adjustment, lampshades by bed tatty).
- Michael (7/5): - Friendly helpful staff No full breakfast, would be happy to pay little more. Road to rear parking needs tarmacing, potholes filled. Access not motorcycle friendly.
- Karsten (3/5): Niet goed, niet het geld waard! - Niets Kamer verschrikkelijk verouderd. Bed viel bijna uit elkaar. Prullenbak verroest en wc bril te klein.
- Ian (8/5): Centre of town, warm welcome - Staff were very very accommodating which made life easy.
- galliford (5/5): -
- Sara (9/5): Clean - Beautiful rooms clean No cooked breakfast
- MICHAEL (8/5): - Charming little Hotel the food was delicious .Will return if the opportunity arrises
- Clare (7/5): Clean bedrooms eat s - The manager was amazing and very helpful. Bedrooms very vlean Not happy with breakfast and dinner. Food could be better.
- Brett (7/5): - Good location and handy parking. Bed was very uncomfortable.
Outside the garden area was a mess really..Grass was not cut.No umbrellas in tables.Lots of rubbish and old appliances laying around...Could be so much better with not much needing to be spent really.
- Davepm (7/5): - Good location and comfy bed, friendly staff Continental breakfast choice was not great. Shower door was broken. For the price would have expected more.
- Akram (9/5): - Hotel staff were very helpful and polite,
Location was beautiful and right near elan valley
Owners were very hands on and proactively greeting guests, had a good conversation with them in the morning
Bar staff night before I checked in stayed behind until I arrived which I thought was exceptional customer service! Price per night was a little steep
My shower was leaking, lost alot of pressure, room 8, other than that facilities were good.
Maybe a hit breakfast or buffet style would be a good touch but other than that no issues at all
- Jack (6/5): Decent stay with improvements to be made. - Location of this hotel is brilliant - small local village with plenty of pubs / general shops Shower was broken - made staff aware (room 6). Breakfast wasn’t up to what we expected but plenty of cold food. Parking round back is very very tight - struggled to fit a small Renault Clio round there.
- Peter (6/5): - Good selection for continental breakfast.
Central location. Creaky bed.
No glasses in room.
Small cups in room.
No control for heating - not on and couldn't dry any kit. Came on am.
- Kelly (1/5): Wouldnt wish this stay upon anyone, leaving and booking another hotel was the best thing we ever did - Nothing, we weren’t even able to stay the night as it was that unclean The property was dirty, stains on the sheets - fairly confident they hadn’t even been washed, shower full of black mould, toilet was filthy, hairs everywhere where, dusty, windows were poor letting in cold air leaving the room freezing even with the heating on , pub downstairs was noisy
- Stephen (8/5): -
- lisa (10/5): - Location was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful The bar needs better wine availability as it was limited.
Breakfast, feel the hotel could benefit if they offered cooked breakfasts. Otherwise best continental breakfast I have had!
- David (5/5): Passable - The bed was comfortable, except for a bug, but that's not really their fault. The shower didn't work well, the tv didn't turn on, the walls were very thin (could hear neighbour snoring), and check-in was vague/ difficult to engage with staff.
- Douglas (4/5): Disappointing. - Bar staff and cleaner were brilliant Breakfast not advertised as continental. Trays layed out night before with cold sausage roll and pork pie ( out all night at room temperature that’s completely against food safety)stale tea cakes bought in muffins and cheap bread& a couple of cereals. No proper meat, cheese or eggs.
Absolute rubbish.
Every time someone used the pub toilet all we could hear was the flush and handryer
Next door shower loud in our room
Room was cold in evening and night no extra blankets or pillows.
I was here a few years ago it was brilliant now the menu is basket meal or curry.
Awful music played loud couldn’t relax won’t be going again
- Danielen (4/5): Bedsheets smelled of body odor, like it was not changed for days - The location was 20-30 minutes drive away from the tourist spots we want to see. There was a convenience store beside it. There was staff up until 11pm to check us in. The bedsheets smelled of body odor. It seemed like the bed sheets were not changed for a few days. We parked along the street. Gets very busy and tradfic during the day we were there. Room was cold. Asked if they have electric heater. Staff only able to answer the following day. No hot breakfast, just continental breakfast.
- Richard (9/5): - Friendly staff, excellent food, room was decent Parking was a little tricky to access, if you have a range rover or similar youve got no chance
- Lauren (9/5): - Clean & comfortable, all we needed for 1 night in the centre of Rhayader.
- David (8/5): -
- Allan (8/5): -
- Jessie (7/5): -
- Wyn (7/5): - Lovely staff clean accommodation
- alistair (7/5): A good breakfast needed - Good evening meal No proper breakfast
- sabine (4/5): Clean room, but very cheap food and staff resources - Clean room, friendly staff although they were mostly absent (ie at breakfast). Breakfast was shockingly bad, with foul tasting crumpets, margarine (no butter) cheP packets of jam, etc....
Shower was weak, and bathroom was in a closet-like corner of the room. Although it was clean.
Bed was uncomfortable
- June (10/5): - Friendly staff No cooked breakfast available
- Phil (8/5): I enjoyed my stay, the staff made it a very comfortable stay - The friendly staff and great location My room was dated
- Mel (10/5): Great one night away - This is our 2nd visit, this time I booked on the day and we were not disappointed. The lovely lady that checked us in & was also working the bar was very polite and chatty and couldn’t do enough for all that were in the bar, she made us feel very welcome. The food was 10/10 we both had a curry mine chicken (extra hot) and my husband had lamb it was delicious & there was so much choice for the buffet breakfast.
The room was spotless, beds were comfy and it had all we needed. There was nothing we didn’t like.
- Karl (10/5): -
- Karen (8/5): -
- Lynn (7/5): - Good location, comfortable bed and nice breakfast with wide choice Dripping water from bathroom
- Ewa (8/5): - Close to local shops, and of course to Elan Valley
- joncryer1 (5/5): It's expensive for what you get. - The location is great as I was working locally, the room was clean and the staff very friendly. After booking the hotel I had notification they no longer provide a cooked breakfast. I ate in the pub and the food was not great, particularly as previously food was good. There was no kettle in my room although there were tea and coffee, but I was unable to use them.
- Simon (6/5): A nice stay , shame about the hotels temperature and quality of food. - Location is great It felt very cold in the bar / restaurant area , asked to have the fire lit on both evenings , but politely declined.
The food was average , nothing special , I had the steak and couldn’t eat it , however I was refunded £10. But I would have preferred a nice meal.
- Ron (6/5): Elan Hot - Friendly staff Breakfast, advertised as continental, but it was more of a cereal or toast/bagel offering. NO-ONE was around during breakfast it felt as though were we all on our own
- Jane (7/5): - Very clean and comfortable room Parking.
- ROYSTON (7/5): -
- Maggie (8/5): -
- Garry (8/5): - Cooked Breakfast could be better
- Charlotte (8/5): Very good time, would go again. - The breakfasts were good, accommodation needs a little TLC and updating, staff very good and friendly, food good. Parking, the car park was very difficult to access has narrow access.
- webb (6/5): - wi fi did not work, and not many working channels on the TV
- Peter (10/5): -
- Ronald (9/5): would recommend this hotel to everyone,, brilliant - breakfast good, meals good . well stocked bar, staff excellent and very helpful and friendly could have tidied the room ,every morning but that was a minor detail
- David (8/5): Good but small room - comfortable bed - difficult parking - The room was small but very nicely decorated There was a bulb missing from one of the bed side lights. The view out of the window was to a corrugated iron clad side of a house. Car parking is difficult as there is no reasonable space and car parking outside the hotel is restricted to 1 hour during the day. Ok to park from 8 pm overnight 'till 8 am
- Buddug (5/5): Good for the price - Breakfast ok, Bathroom to small
- Lynne (8/5): - Amazing view from bedroom and restaurant, food was good
- Maria (4/5): - Location good , breakfast would of been nice to have a cooked breakfast, especially if going out walking all day Breakfast
- Jason Dury (8/5): New Year's Eve - The location is perfect for exploring the Elan Valley and surrounding area..
Visiting this time to celebrate New Years Eve so spent the days walking and evenings partying. Slightly disappointed that they only offered continental breakfast.
The weather was particularly cold and it would have been nice to have started the days with a cooked breakfast.
- Leanne (8/5): Lovely stay in the Elan hotel - Location, bed was comfy and clean Very noisy shower,
- Dawn (5/5): Dissapointing breakfast - Great location in town The most dissapointing breakfast ever. Unless you like pre packed croissants and instant coffee, I wouldn't bother. We ended up eating breakfast down the street at Tŷ Morgan. The hotel should make the type of breakfast clear before people book.
- Lisa (6/5): Not the usual friendly staff that on previous visits we have been greeted by. Not the amazing cooked breakfast that we w - Right in the heart of town, easy parking. Room too hot in the afternoon then freezing cold through the night, I’m never cold but was awake til 4am shivering
- simon (3/5): Room was clean although a little small. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast in the morning. Just a cold offerin - Location The bar staff were lovely, we stay in Rhayader about 5 times a year, I like the Elan as a bar but unfortunately not as a hotel and although I will still come in for a drink, I will not stay again.
- Price (7/5): -
- Thomas (10/5): -
- Kevin (7/5): - Went out before 10 using side door unable to get back in door closed was all closed up
- Storey (1/5): Turned out they didn’t accept dogs so I had to find somewhere else to stay and this was at 21.30 with no hotels nearby. - Absolutely nothing Everything
- Nia (7/5): Great - Lovely clean room, friendly staff Liked everyrhung
- Delyth (8/5): - Food and staff were good Tv in room did not work and there was no hair dryer in the room, even tho there was ment to be
- Marian (7/5): - No staff present at breakfast time
- Olwen (3/5): -
- Stuart (6/5): Ok - Good location Room was cold. Heating went off early evening, slept in clothes!
- Deborah (8/5): -
- John (7/5): Overall good but could be improved on - Location, cleanliness and staff “Breakfast” was just cereal and toast which was a let down, expected a cooked breakfast.
Room was nice but bathroom a little snug.
- Anthony (8/5): - Nice comfy bed nice food in restaurant, shame thrre was no cooked breakfast but the continental was very good No cooked breakfast
- Poovathumkadavil Harish Kumar (7/5): - Location is fine Wifi
- Jill (6/5): -
- Carl (10/5): -

- Jackie (10/5): Easy to find. Friendly staff. Clean & comfortable. - Very clean & friendly staff Nothing
- Richard (7/5): -
- Roger (8/5): -
- christopher (8/5): -
- lisa (8/5): The staff were very friendly and the room was clean with all amenities. Breakfast was lovely, one vegan and one bacon an - Lovely little town, beautiful surroundings. The rooms are above a pub and were very clean and tidy with good facilities
- Peter (6/5): Good location for Elan Valley, friendly staff, good breakfast but property in need of attention - The staff were very friendly, the breakfast was very good, good quality, well presented Parking is not easy
There needs to be more attention to detail: there was one bulb out in our room and one flickering about to go out.; the furniture in the breakfast room is very tired and not clean, there were a lot of crumbs under the glass top on the table and the paint on the tables needed to repainted.
All things that can be easily improved at not much cost but would make a real difference.
- Jonathan (3/5): - Staff were pleasant and breakfast ok Twin room beds were very narrow and plumbing noise ridiculous. Neighbouring room toilets and showers were extremely loud, impossible to sleep. No hot water connection to the hand basin!
- Margaret (6/5): Short stay - Location
Supplies teas/coffee in room
Breakfast choice good
Staff very courteous Mattress seen better days in terms of comfiness....could feel springs
Shower cubicle area ...tiles could do with a good clean/re-grouting and hose going to shower head had become detached and piping exposed
Toilet paper wafer thin ☹️
Clattering of water pipes heard when next room were using shower...
Seats in lounge area could do with a refurb
All in all the hotel ok but needing some TLC...
- Ian (8/5): - Very helpful staff. Comfortable room. No hot water in the morning, although the shower worked fine.
- Brian (7/5): - Room was ok, comfy bed. WiFi pretty poor in room,
Shower not great.
- Jason (10/5): Great hotel, great location we will definitely go back - Location & hotel Nothing
- john (10/5): -
- Niccollotto (9/5): nice - nice place, nice staff, safe motorcycle parking a bit expensive for what it is
- Wendy (2/5): - Not a great deal to put here tbh. Struggling to find positives. Car park entrance was dire. Back garden had 2 broken umbrellas and a seat dumped.
The breakfast area was very basic. Our room had no hot water most of the time even after complaining. Next doors water pipes sounded like a steam train, so noisy. You banged your head on the shelf whilst trying to wash, the toilet seat was loose, roll holder barely attached, fan only came on when you turned off light but we couldn't shut the en suite doors as they were only attached by the top hinge!
There was an old dirty sock left in bedside drawer from previous occupants. There were no hanging hooks or removable hangers for wet clothes so when we came back to our room we had to dump wet motorbike jackets and trousers on the floor or hang them dripping in the wardrobe .
Breakfast was cheap and basic. Water in urn for tea lukewarm and you had a bucket and mop to look at next to table.
Needless to say we won't be returning.
- Lesley Street (9/5): Very nice - Good location Thin thin bedroom walls
- Victoria (9/5): -
- Daniel (6/5): -
- Angela (8/5): Easy to find and great hospitality - Great overnight accommodation
- martin (9/5): Definite favourite - Very friendly. Perfectly located for a base for sightseeing. The breakfast was great. Welcoming bar and nice clientele. Have stayed before, but will certainly be back, hopefully, soon. Room was cold at night and no hot water in the mornings. Not great views from rooms (7&8) but can't have everything. Large enough carpark, but very tight to get into.
- Skelly (8/5): -
- alan (3/5): Very basic hotel, evening meal was ok, breakfast was a child's portion but well cooked, hotel had flies everywhere - Location was good Rooms very basic, sat in the dark for 15 minutes at breakfast before the cook turned the lights on! Flies everywhere
- Gareth (8/5): - Location Small spaces
- Smith (8/5): -
- Tony (2/5): - Location Grubby
