Guest Reviews
- 344terrylynnj (10/5): Simply amazing! From the moment we arrived at Papagayo Golden Palms our stay here was excellent. - From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Daniela who made our stay there fantastic. All of the staff, Andrea, Harley and Sergio went above and beyond every single day. From booking our drivers to making our meals they were always there with a smile. They honestly made us feel like we mattered. The pool and grounds are beautiful. We will definitely be back.
- jrfitts1 (10/5): Great place - Wonderful! Warm and friendly customer service, an excellent bed, clean large room with a private outdoor patio, really attractive buildings with walkways in what looked like a botanical garden. On a natural curve of beach - loved it. Dinner and breakfast luscious, local and elegant. Thank you for a delightful welcome to Costa Rica!
- X2412PKlaurenb (8/5): Wonderful Stay with Excellent Staff and Beachfront Views - We stayed at Golden Palms Hotel during our trip to Costa Rica and had a really lovely experience overall. The room was perfect — exactly as pictured — clean, comfortable, and steps away from the beach.
The restaurant and food were fantastic, if a little on the pricey side. We especially want to thank Daniela, Sergio, and Andrea, who went above and beyond to take care of us. Their kindness and attention made our stay feel extra special.
One note for travelers: if you’re visiting during low season, some amenities may have limited hours. The restaurant closed early most nights and wasn’t open for lunch until our last day, which made planning meals a bit tricky. Totally understandable given the season, but worth knowing in advance.
That said, we still highly recommend this hotel. The beachfront access is unbeatable, we saw howler monkeys right by the Howler Bar, and the pool was beautiful and relaxing. A wonderful spot for a peaceful beach escape.
- peterjY6198DH (8/5): Great hotel, could do either a bit of updating and some minor issues with the grounds. - Stayed here for 6 nights after visiting rainforest areas.
A special big thanks to Sergio, Andrea and Harley who worked tirelessly in the restaurant to meet our dietary needs and make sure we had a great experience. Sergio was particularly helpful professional attitude but as well as this a genuine kind and helpful manor. Missing you all already, thanks for putting up with my gluten intolerance !!
Food was good, varied menu and with plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options if asked.
Room was spotlessly clean and the gardens were kept beautifully. However there were a couple of issues. The fountain area had been badly le down as the pool around the fountain had been drained. Someone could easily have fallen in, there were also bits of dead crabs lying in the pool, not very appetising when walking to dinner. There was also some work with a bit of noise where plaster board was being removed. This was carried through the gardens but and was scattered along the paths, even though this was mentioned it was still there a few days later when we left (see photo).
The beach was absolutely amazing an we spent many happy hours walking on the beach watching pelicans dive into the sea. There were also howler monkeys passing through the hotel from time time and humming birds near our room
- Jeffrey H (10/5): - Such a lovely place. Low season and we had it almost all to ourselves. All the staff so friendly and attentive - Andrea, Sergio, Daniela - we felt like we were family - they greeted us by name, knew what wanted to drink with breakfast (which is included!), were ready to take care of whatever we needed.
Food good - although a little pricey, but that is what you expect at a nice resort. There are a couple of places you can walk to (did for one lunch), but mainly just ate at their nice outdoor restaurant (has an air-conditioned section if you like, but we found al fresco rather enjoyable).
Paddleboards and kayaks for a modest fee (we did the latter). Decent beach you can walk for a couple miles on, without much in the way of waves so easy to swim. And nice and warm water (late Sept). Howler monkeys, iguanas and birds galore all right there. And beautiful gardens.
If you want to do a tour, while you are there, go with Freddy - he is amazing, particularly if you like wildlife. Did his rainforest and volcano tour - amazing and learned so much. His assistant Meme will get you set up. Pura Vida!
- Kyle (10/5): Glad we stayed here - Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming! Grounds are nice, location is great and the rooms were clean and comfortable! Can’t thank the staff enough for making our stay memorable and enjoyable!
- K8213FYjanetd (8/5): Costa Rican Charm - The atmosphere is so beautiful and serene. The staff was very accommodating and made us feel very welcome. We came during the rainy season so it wasn’t as busy but we liked that it wasn’t crowded. We picked this hotel because it was 30 minutes from Liberia airport and we didn’t want to be traveling too far to get to the airport.
There are also howler monkeys that live on the property. What a treat!
Room was comfortable and spacious. Looks exactly like photos. It is an older resort but has all the Costa Rican charm you would want.
- Navigate624472 (10/5): Slice of Paradise Forever in My Heart - I’m not quite certain how to put into words my wonderful experience at Golden Palms.
The property itself is absolutely great! So peaceful, well lit, such large & comfortable rooms, everything is kept so clean and well-maintained. The pool and lounging areas are tranquil, you get to listen to music while also have all the sounds of nature around you. If you want to step into the beach, when the current is low, you can even do some hiking and walking around the gulf. When the current is higher, you get to experience the clean and refreshing ocean water. You will get to see iguanas, crabs, fish, all kinds of birds, and hear the howler monkeys in the jungle behind the hotel. Such an immersive experience!
The safety in this hotel and its surrounding areas superseded my expectations. I felt so comfortable walking around to the nearby beaches. And when I went on solo walks, I’d tell the staff. Sergio, specifically, kept an eye out for me to ensure I’d return safe and sound. There wasn’t a single moment when I felt unsafe while in my stay. So peaceful!
The food at this hotel was absolutely wonderful! The chef is top tier here! Every meal I ate was exquisite! My only recommendation would be to add empanadas arregladas to the Snack menu :)
At Golden Palms, I experienced the best customer service I have ever received in all my trips. I take my hat off to Daniela, Harley, Sergio, Andrea, and Mauricio. These individuals made my stay here something I will never forget! They genuinely cared for my well-being! They were so kind, generous with their time, fun to talk with, genuinely good souls with such wonderful vibes!
Overall, I highly recommend this hotel and wish that more people got to experience what I did— a time of joy, peace, fun, and kindness!
- kristeneO1695KO (10/5): Welcoming experience - Sergio, Harley, Andrea in the restaurant were amazing, so attentive and personable. And Jaylor at the front desk was very accommodating and helped us with everything. This was a great experience and if we ever come back this place is on our list!
- Julio Reynaldo Reynaldo (10/5): - Friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive staff.
- davidsK2090PP (10/5): Wonderful, relaxing week! - This is a wonderful beachfront resort. We needed a trip to relax and unwind and this is the place to do just that. So quiet and peaceful nestled in a beautiful, tranquil setting. The pool was amazing, the service and hospitality incredible, and the food (best ribeye I have ever had) was top notch. Natalie was very welcoming upon arrival and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. Analorena and Jose Miguel made our room comfortable and relaxing. The service was impeccable. Sergio and Andrea were very attentive whether it was drinks or food, and super friendly and always helpful. Our stay couldn’t have been better. If you are looking for a beautiful, laid back resort that is close to the Liberia airport and restaurants in Coco, look no further. We didn’t want to leave and are already planning when we may return. Thank you!
- 277crystalg (10/5): Welcoming and helpful - Had a wonderful stay, place was clean, and in a neutral spot for us. Daniela was very helpful with recommendations and so sweet. Jeylor made sure we were comfortable and had things we needed.
- Crystal (10/5): - Had a wonderful stay. If you are looking for any recommendations talk with Daniela she is wonderful and very helpful. Jeylor was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed.
- Marcella R. (10/5): - From the minute we walked into the hotel, we were treated like queens and kings. The entire staff was attentive, kind and friendly at all times. We had a dilemma with our rental car company and the staff at Papagayo Golden Palms helped us by shuttling us to our tours. The entire staff, Mauricio, Natalie, JeJey, Andrea, Sergio and a few more were great! I cannot recommend this hotel enough!!! The premises were beautiful, quiet, serene and very clean. Treat yourself to the wonderful hotel!
- Melina (10/5): - Loved the landscape and location. Thank you!
- lawrence (8/5): - Quiet with friendly staff. Nice beach.
- JamieA203 (10/5): If you don't want the giant hotel vibe and like a more intimate experience, this place is for you. - We had a wonderful time. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, and the grounds are really beautiful. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. It is a small hotel and some of the buildings may need some sprucing up but we found the look and feel just right. The gardens are really great and the connection to the local nature with the monkeys and the song birds very entertaining and relaxing. If you don't want the giant hotel vibe and like a more intimate experience, this place is for you.
- Olga (10/5): - I recently stayed at Papagayo Golden Palms and had a wonderful experience. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making sure we had everything we needed. The property is beautifully maintained, with lush gardens and a very peaceful atmosphere — you can tell they take great pride in keeping it in top condition. The food was also a highlight, with fresh, delicious options that added to the whole experience. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway with great service, beautiful surroundings, and good food, I highly recommend staying here!
- 781olgak (10/5): Great experience! - We had a wonderful stay at Papagayo Golden Palms in Costa Rica! The property is beautifully maintained, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming us with genuine warmth and always ready to help with anything we needed. The food was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful, and full of local touches. Every part of our experience felt relaxing and special. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a beautiful and comfortable stay in Guanacaste. Thank you for making our trip unforgettable!
- magdalenas310 (10/5): Real paradise - Aloha Amigos. We experienced a couple of wonderful days in a nature paradise. Every moment was a gift for us.
We found the beautiful hotel layout with its colorful gardens simply fascinating.
The absolute highlight were of course the animals freely moving around the hotel. The monkeys who climb in the trees directly above the pool and enjoy the local fruits were a complete nature wonder. One can observe them for hours.
We were regularly visited by the Urraca bird during our breakfast. It was funny to share the meal with it.
It is a relaxing place, also very suitable for yoga practice.
Last but not least, the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful in everything we asked for or needed to arrange, always smiling and joking :-) which we loved.
We had a lot of fun especially with Toro. He will soon become the best and most muscular swimmer in Costa Rica :-)
The team in the restaurant was brilliant too. Thank you very much: Andrea, Toro, Fede, Sergio, Harley and Edwin (best biker in Costa Rica :-)).
We also got a great support from the reception team: Daniela, Natalie and Jazmin: Thank you!
The room was always clean, very well maintained and with beautiful towel creations on the bed. Thank you Lorena, Deilyn and José Miguel!
The allrounders Jeylor, Elvis und Denilson did a great job too!
As a Swiss-Czech couple we enjoyed our stay and the nature at 100%. It felt as a second home for us. Big greetings from Switzerland ;-)

- Terrence (6/5): Wonderful staff - The place is dated but location is interesting. The staff were wonderful. The beach is dark sand but nice. Water very warm and calm in bay. The rooms need updating but were fine.
- Kitty (10/5): - I really enjoyed the regular appearance of a troop of monkeys and the many colorful birds.
- ramagez2025 (10/5): A Hidden Gem in Papagayo - We’re only on our second day here and already completely in love with this place. The hotel is a peaceful boutique gem nestled in the jungle and right on the beach. The staff are incredibly kind and thoughtful. On our first night, Sergio, Federico, and Edwin surprised us with a romantic beachfront dinner setup with flowers and string lights.
The food has been amazing. We had the shrimp fettuccine and seafood soup, paired with mango margaritas from a secret menu. We’ve already spotted howler monkeys and beautiful birds, and love relaxing by the hammocks and sunbeds on the beach. Cozy, clean rooms, helpful staff via WhatsApp, and nature all around. this place is something special!
- doormouse034 (10/5): A fabulous break in a stunning place with great staff. - Just returned from a wonderful stay at Golden Palms- our second visit. Everything was wonderful, especially the friendly and professional staff who were always willing to help with a smile whatever the query. Rooms cleaned daily and pool kept beautifully clean( despite cheeky howler monkeys discarding their mango munchies around the pool!) . We loved the abundant wildlife around the beautifully kept hotel grounds and surroundings. Lovely beach walks too. All staff were wonderful and a t-y also to the chef(s) who offered such delicious meals . My husband has already thanked some of the wonderful staff in a separate review and I would also like to add thx to Elvis, Natalie,Jazmine, Jeylor, and Daniela.
Thank you all for looking after us so well and always with a smile .
We hope to be back some day.
- rnQ2275GG (10/5): Loved this resort. - Loved this place. Lovely people, lovely resort, pool, beach and rooms. Well maintained property. The staff was very welcoming, friendly and accommodating . The pool and area was relaxing and not crowded. Drinks and food were good. Especially liked the Mahi served with shrimp.
- ConanA26 (10/5): Stunning slice of nature in peaceful location - Stunning location with abundant wildlife and beautiful gardens. Rooms were cleaned every day and the pool area was kept pristine, despite howler monkeys throwing mangoes down from the trees into the pool . The staff were all extremely professional, friendly and would bend over backwards to help. Big thanks to.Andrea, Sergio. Harley, Edwin, Federico, Roland and all the others who made this such a memorable holiday.
- 434pattye (10/5): Highly recommend beautiful place and an amazing staff - We stayed at this resort and it was the most amazing place! The grounds were beautiful! The staff was amazing! Jazmin, jeylor-Daniela, Elvis and Nathalie were so helpful and polite! I would highly recommend this place!!! Food, and the rest of the staff were just amazing!
- riccibel327 (10/5): The staff and experience made the trip! - I was quite impressed by this gem of a resort. My room was spacious with a huge king bed and a sitting area besides the outdoor sitting area. The pillows are comfortable and fluffy. The bed was very comfortable. The fridge came with free 2 water bottles, and the air conditioner was strong at providing the proper air and temperature for my room. The bathroom was also spacious especially the shower which had a strong stream and water warmed up very quickly. The grounds was clean and lovely with many flowers in view. The pool area was nice with good shade from the palm trees and mango tree. Lazy monkeys hang and move about without bothering the guests. Breakfast buffet had a lot of great options. Dinner menu was great and food was really delectable. Service was phenomenal. The staff, specifically Sergio, Roland (Toro), Harley, Frederico, Andrea, and Edwin at the restaurant and pool bar were so friendly, attentive, and just lovely to converse with. Other staff members - Elvis, Daniela, Jazmin and Natalie - also made my stay memorable. The beach area was spacious. Nice hammock area and lounge chairs were positioned well by the beach. Great experience overall!
- Sarah Letitia (6/5): - We liked the property layout, view, location and grounds. We had a lovely welcome from the staff.
We didn’t like the menu variety or value for money.
- jenbO1689IN (10/5): Papagayo Golden Palms - The Papagayo Golden Palms is an excellent resort. The rooms are clean and spacious, the food was amazing (including the free breakfast). It was not over crowded which allowed us to enjoy the beautiful pool. It is a very relaxing atmosphere. A family of howler monkeys napped and ate mangos from the large tree in the pool area. It is conveniently located a short drive from the airport as well as a quick uber ride to Playa Coco for shopping, dining and entertainment. The best part of our stay truly was the people. Jeilor, Sergio, Federico, Edwin,Harley, Andrea and Roland were amazing. Everyone was so helpful and they made the trip so much fun, we gained many friends. I would highly recommend this resort for not only the beautiful scenery but the amazing staff.
- stevealan77 (10/5): Great times!! - One of the best experiences we have had staying at a resort! The minute we got there we were treated like royalty! you will not find a better more attentive and friendly staff anywhere! The place is beautiful, quiet, clean and welcoming. It was perfect for us to getaway from the rat race for a week and and enjoy the surroundings the beautiful pool and the wildlife especially the mango tree full of monkeys!! They have 1 restaurant on the premises and the food is delicious!!! Again we would not hesitate to go back. The staff is one of the biggest reasons for that. Every single one of them we can actually call friends by the end of our trip! We were tired of the "all inclusives" with the sometimes loud and sometimes obnoxious crowds you can get at times! This was our perfect sanctuary!! Steve & Grace

- P6360VHrobb (10/5): Tropical Paradise - The Golden Palms in the Papagayo gulf is truly a getaway. It’s a tropical paradise that takes you away from the every day world with its lush landscaping, beautiful plants, spacious rooms and wonderful staff, We were greeted by Jayler and Natalie in the open air lobby and quickly felt at home. Harley, Sergio, Edwin and Roland were always there in the dining room or pool side for whatever we needed. We kayaked, ziplined at the Diamonte Eco park, took a boat trip around the Papagayo Gulf, enjoyed the grounds and the beach. But what made it even better was how close it was to the airport, Coco, and Hermosa playas , and other activities. You can stay there, you can explore, it’s a great location. We will definitely be back.
- phillipsW428SI (10/5): Very rewarding experience. - This place is genuinely a hidden gem. Its location at Playa Panama Oeste is premium. Sergio and his associates made my experience very nice. Their attitude and service was outstanding. To sit at the outdoor bar looking at beach and hear the waterfall of the pool behind you is wonderful.
- Amy (10/5): - This was the best place we could have picked to stay! The staff was absolutely outstanding with their service and were so friendly and helpful! The food was excellent. The rooms were exceptionally clean and stayed cool all day. We walked the beach and spent lots of time at the pool. It was not over crowded like other places where you can’t even find a chair. In the pool you get to see the monkeys in the mango treee right above you taking naps and eating mangos. It was magical! Breakfast is free and was so good too. I will definitely go back I miss it already! Thank you to - Jeilor, Sergio, Federico, Edwin, Roland, Hailey, Andrea and all the staff that were so fun!

Lots of options for activities!
Thank you - Jeilor, Sergio, Federico, Edwin, Roland, Hailey, Andrea and all the staff that were so fun!
- Lenekia (10/5): - We were welcomed with drinks and cool towels. It was such a quiet property during this time of the year! The landscaping of the property was beautiful & colorful with the walkways paved with florals, definitely gives a tropical vibe! So much lush greenery. 10-15 min away from playa de coco & zi lounge; about 30min from the airport in the early AM hours. We had no issues getting an uber at 530am.
Hotel has on site restaurant. Roland was the best; we ordered ribs& fries, short rib, salmon tartar, bbq wings, shrimp plate and spinach ravioli & left completely stuffed with leftovers. *strawberry margarita was the crowd pleaser for drinks
There is also a pool with semi-private beach and equipment available to use (kayak, paddleboard), sun beds and hammocks overlooking the water. They also offer spa treatments on site.
The room & restroom were spacious (shower was huge), with a living room area and private patio enclosed with tall plants for privacy.
Everyone was so friendly and helpful during our short stay here. We can’t wait to come back !
- jakesmomLA (10/5): A low-key gem - Happened upon this place because our flight was canceled. What a charming spot! We arrived late and frazzled but the lovely staff made sure we were fed and welcomed. Woke up in the morning, took a long walk on the beach and a swim in the beautiful pool before heading back to the airport. A low- key gem. Perfectly simple.
Next trip we will plan to stay here for a few days to decompress.
- craiglF9612MI (10/5): We’ll Be Back!! - While our visit did not include an overnight stay at Papagayo Golden Palms we were very lucky to stop in and have lunch at the poolside restaurant. From the very friendly greeting on our arrival to the excellent service for our drinks and meals to our departure, the Pura Vida flowed throughout!
Ice cold beers and tasty cocktails along with exceptional food paired with tranquil setting provided the perfect stop. We’ll return for an overnight stay. The grounds and facilities are fantastic. Nothing like a cold beer, great food, view of the beach and a troop of howler monkeys only feet away to make this a memorable experience.
Thank you to our host Federico for the exceptional introduction to Papagayo Golden Palms and all it has to offer. Thank you to Federico along with Sergio and Edwin for the welcoming vibe and great time! Pura Vida!!
PS: We really enjoyed our shrimp salads but noticed other customers meals and were envious of those as well, another good reason to go back!
- Vicki (8/5): - The staff are lovely, food was great, gorgeous beach. The rooms are dated though but clean.
- Leslie (8/5): - The only option available for us was a family style room. It was spacious in that there were two queen beds and a sitting area. Our patio was completely secluded due to the trees in front. The property itself is so beautifully landscaped. Your stress will melt away! The staff is friendly and accomodating. I asked for an iron and one was delivered promptly, though they weren't sure if there were any. It was away from the town area and anything you do away from there will cost a grip to get to. Perfect getaway for a couple!
- Edyta (10/5): - maravilloso lugar para relajarse, divertirse con un excelente servicio...Servicio realizado por Sergio, Andrea, profesionales y muy amables...lo recomiendo.
- Delyn (8/5): - We stayed at this hotel during the last 4 days of our 2-week trip so, we really liked that the resort was quiet and occupancy seamed to be low. At times we were the only ones at the pool. We had some challenges at this resort with the safe not working (we went through 4 of them), swarms of ants in our unit and the hotel cleaning staff leaving our back sliding glass door open. Which was a problem considering the safes are not bolted down. However, all of our issues were remedied very quickly and staff were very apologetic. It is really the staff that made our stay enjoyable. The breakfast buffet was very good and had a good variety every day but my husband made a comment that there were no waffles and they said no problem and made him waffles. I also asked where there was a nearby restaurant that made enchiladas and they said no problem we will make them for you. They were terrific! We wanted to use the SUPs and thought that they would be provided as part of their amenities but they were $15 USD ($23 CAD) to rent so we chose not to spend the extra money. The beach front close to the resort is a little murky so you have to walk further down if you want to swim. We preferred the pool anyways. The pool does have some leaves in it but it was being cleaned daily. Small price to pay to have lots of natural shade. The trees also attracted lots of howler monkeys, large iguanas and black vultures. This was our afternoon entertainment.
- Mehrzad (8/5): - Very friendly staff , special thanks to Federico how was very kind and welcoming .
- Rhonda Lee (10/5): - Beautiful gardens.....well maintained. Staff friendly and welcoming.
- Kristina (2/5): - If you want to enjoy your vacay, please avoid this This place. It deserves one star and that it’s only because of their staff.
For starters they don’t even have water available after 8pm.
Not bar or food after 8pm ( in the middle of now where)
Mislead advertising about “ocean front” it’s just a mud
Internet doesn’t work
There’s no iron in the room
When water it’s available it cost 8 dollars per Bottle. (some cheap label water)
Worst place to Stay. We even left earlier.
- CHARLES (10/5): - All was as expected for a small property. Very nice!
- Marita (10/5): - Stayed for 4 nights, very good experience , staff are good and helpful especially Sergio.
- Brian (10/5): - We loved Golden Palms! The staff is so friendly! The food is amazing.mThe rooms are nice and big. Bed is very comfortable. The pool is huge. We liked the quietness of the resort. Edwin and Federico were amazing at the pool side bar. Any activity you would like to do they will have it to you quickly. We did jet skis and they were there within minutes. Playa Hermosa is a 5 min drive. We did choose to go eat there a couple of nights. We would definitely stay here again !
- Mark (10/5): - great place, people, pool and beach!
- Araceli (10/5): - Great place. Staff very friendly and room was very clean.
- Armando Prieto (10/5): - Amazing place to unwind!
- Rajesh (8/5): - Very nice place to wind down and enjoy nature
- Derica (6/5): - Price does not justify the room. The room was dated and was slightly damp due to the rainy season. The television only worked one day. Thank goodness they had no availability for the last two days of my stay and I was able to go to another hotel.
- Arrica (10/5): - Staff was friendly and facilities were nice and clean. We will be back!! Loved it!!
- Paul (6/5): - The view was amazing and it was very quiet.
The food selection and quality was low.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A resort with potential and friendly staff - Rooms were very clean. Resort could be better with some updates to the property. It has some real potential. The staff, service, cleanliness and food were good. It was a quiet refuge but not near many other things.
- jimmy (10/5): - It chose this property based previous reviews, especially the one where the customer complained that it was dead here and that there was nothing to do. My thought: perfect!
- Jennifer (10/5): - Golden palms is absolutely gorgeous. The staff is incredible - friendly, helpful and they go out of their way to make you comfortable and to keep the facilities clean. The breakfast has freshly made eggs, French toast, black beans and rice, plantains, potatoes, cereal and amazing fruit. I recommend getting an iced coffee, which is included with breakfast.
We loved the pool and had plenty of smoothies while swimming e with the kids and relaxing. Watermelon, strawberry or mango were all amazing.
There are hammocks where you can lay and see the howler monkey families pass through in the morning or afternoon.
We had dinner on the property and I highly recommend the grilled shrimp, which was part of my Caesar salad. All the food was delicious.
The property is beautiful manicured and has beautiful birds and butterflies.
I
The staff also helped us to arrange a snorkel and boating outing, which was fantastic. We saw string raid, eels, bright fish and a puffer fish.
We loved it here!
- Paula (8/5): - Property has comfortable bed, friendly staff, good breakfast. The location is close to the airport. We stayed two nights.
- Christa (8/5): - The grounds of this hotel are very pretty, the rooms are large and comfortable, but best of all was the very friendly and helpful staff. The location is a short drive from Liberia airport, and Coco Beach. I wished that the restaurant had more to offer on the dinner menu but that was really my only minor issue
- Homayoon (10/5): - Tranquility and natural surroundings
- Gerard (8/5): - Very quiet, if there was some variety for breakfast that would be good, and the entrance needs to have the road leveled
- Scott (10/5): - Great place. Beautiful pool and beach area. Close to other beach towns. Paddle boarding on site.
- Joe (10/5): - Nice quiet stay very nice staff.
- Kathleen (10/5): - We loved our stay at Papagayo Golden Palms Beachfront Hotel. The staff was very friendly and went above our expectations to insure a fabulous time! We will definitely be back!
- Garrett (8/5): Nice, clean quiet place - Very clean. Has its own beach connected to Playa Panama. Very quiet, older property with huge trees.Food is OK. Nice place to stay for solitude & for single women wishing to be unbothered. Off the beaten path, food is OK, menu is limited here, but can take an Uber to Playa Hermosa for great food.
- Andrew (8/5): Nice hotel right on the beach - This hotel feels a bit dated but it's clean, comfortable, and nicely situated on the water. You won't see the beach from your rooms but it's right on the other side of the pool. The beach is very easy to access and the hotel provides some lounge chairs and hammocks on a grassy area adjacent to the beach. The waterfront is rocky in one direction and sandy in the other direction. It is not private to the hotel but it wasn't at all crowded when we were there during peak season. Breakfast is included and quite good for a free breakfast (eggs, meat, pancakes, Costa Rica dishes, cereals...). Dinner on the other hand was not worth it. Everything had potential but everything was a miss. Overcooked fish, overcooked steak that was missing chimichurri, dry sauceless ravioli, poorly done soup. Out of 10 dinners we had while in Costa Rica this was the only one that I wished I had gone elsewhere for (elsewhere = Ginger in this case. Wonderful restaurant). But the hotel is nice if you can get a decent deal on rooms. Access to the beach and clean comfortable air-conditioned rooms are the highlights.
- Mark (6/5): - very little to do at the hotel itself unless you wanted to read a book at the pool
- Hugo (10/5): - Relaxing, quiet accommodation. Very helpful and friendly staff that goes the extra mile. The room were cleaned daily with the cutest towl art. Loved the patio outside the room which is closed off by beautiful plants. Great food and cocktails!
- Jody (10/5): - We spent 6 nights at this hotel and it was a lovely stay. The room was large and very clean. The hotel grounds were well maintained and surrounded by nature. The pool.was great and there was a very nice hammock and fire pit area for relaxing. There were not many guests during our stay so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Lastly, the staff were wonderful, especially Andrea in the restaurant who was just a lovely lady who took great care of us.
- Irina (10/5): - Everything was great, the staff is very friendly and helpful
- Irina (2/5): - The Premiere access bag drop line was so long that we missed our flight. There was no employee during 75 min we waited there. Then had to stand in line another 1.5 hour to get travel assistance because there were so many others who also did not ever expect the Premier drop off line to stretch mile high. After an hour we (the people in line) were finally approached by an employee and we all let out our frustrations to which he said there was an alternative line downstairs but now it would take longer for us compared to where we now if we switch even though the line itself is shorter. So we waited longer and missed our flight. Where was that employee for the hole hour, why nobody was directing people to alternative routes? Apparently none was scheduled or none showed up to work? Regardless, over threw hours of standing in line we learned that the soonest they could reschedule us was only two days later. Our expensive beach hotel is nonrefundable and travel mood is ruined. I now understand why Newarc airport is consistently voted the worst in the nation. Please try and stay out of it
- Howard Forde (10/5): - The staff at this property were some of the nicest, most friendly and most attentive that I've every experienced in my travels. Lovely, tranquil and scenic setting. I hope to return real soon! Pura vida!
- Lesley (8/5): - Beautiful property, very clean but not busy at all-felt like a ghost town. Beach in this area is not very nice. Food is ok. Patio door to the room didn’t lock.
- anne (10/5): - Quiet and beautiful. Friendly staff, nice artwork, clean, and live the beach front chairs. They made breakfast boxes for us before heading to airport for early flight. Definitely recommend!
- Annette (10/5): - The property is beautiful, green and lush and well taken care of. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are very clean and updated. We sat at the pool and watched the monkeys play in the trees.
- Mehrdad (8/5): - We had a nice quiet stay at this property. Did not have a tub, but the shower was spacious. Our room was also
spacious, and very clean. Waling distance to Playa Panama which is a quiet, calm bay. Excellent place to avoid the crowds and only about 20 minute drive to Playa Coco which busy and crowded.
- Phillip Alwin (8/5): - If you want quiet relaxation away from the hubbub of large resorts, this is your place. The staff, though a little stretched, were the stars of the stay.
- Michael (8/5): Golden Palms - This place was really clean and well appointed for being in the jungle but it has seen better days but totally does the job.
- Kathy (4/5): Just OK - Hotel is ok, restaurant was overpriced and food average. Poor service in restaurant. Was double charged for drinks. No good vibe there, no beach amenities, not even a chair at beach. Will not be returning.
- Benjamin (10/5): - A great alternative to staying by Liberia airport. Staff was excellent!
- Eric L (10/5): - Excellent facility and very friendly and helpful staff. Can see some upgrades/maintenance in progress but overall a very nice facility. Somewhat isolated but quiet and close to the veach.
- Tara (6/5): Beautiful landscaping, bland food, blah rooms - This was the first place we stayed on our two week journey.
It rained the entire time.
The room was very stale. Everything was white. No pictures, no art.
This was the only place we stayed that had a tv, although old, it sufficed.
No beach views from rooms. Instead a little courtyard surrounded by overgrown vegetation… so much so that you couldn’t even sit outside.
The food was subpar as well as the ambiance.
The staff are ridiculously kind and attentive.
The landscaping is gorgeous, but the rooms are blah.
- Brandon (4/5): - I would not recommend! The water was shutoff for hours without notice.
- Manuel (2/5): - First of all, this is not a beachfront hotel. The beach is undeveloped and has no seating. There is also a dirty pond collecting mosquitoes next to the property. The hotel was almost empty . I think I only saw 3 other guests. Yet the front desk employee decided to place us in the furthest building possible to make us do a long walk with our luggage. The fridge was so old and loud we had to disconnect it to be able to sleep. The room smelled like strong cleaning chemicals l.In the morning there was no running water and I had to shower with water bottles. Unbelievably disappointed.
- PAULINA MARIA (4/5): - This should not be considered a "Beachfront". The beach is not pretty, no seating, low tide every day, rocky, not clean. The hotel was OK, I had issues everyday with the AC. It sounds like being on an airplane .. either too cold or too hot. Staff was OK - although I speak Spanish they ALWAYS looked at me as if I was alien. Not polite!! A paying customer should be treated with respect. Won't be going back to hotel or CR.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Breakfast needs to be improved - Location and garden are great. Rooms are okay. However, breakfast is terrible. Coffee and juice were really bad, and so was the food. Also have to deduct one star for using plastic straws while the rest of Costa Rica is making an effort to avoid them.
- Eric (10/5): Amazing location with an even more amazing staff - This hotel and it's staff made our trip to Costa Rica even more memorable and special that i could have imagined. Every person who works there was so kind, friendly, and accommodating that i cant imagine anywhere in the world I'd rather stay than there with them. We were there for 9 days and I will truly miss them.
The hotel grounds are beautifully designed as though had our own personal botanic garden in the rain forest. We also saw plenty of iguanas, exotic birds, and several monkeys in the mango tree near the pool on our final day.
- fran (10/5): - Loved our stay here! So quiet and quint.
Beautiful grounds. Saw Congo monkey family flying in the trees eating mangos, and an iguana showed up for his breakfast at the restaurant every morning. It was delightful.
- Eudys Froilan (10/5): - The prices of food are expensive and there aren’t another opción to eat
- Bayardo (10/5): - Beautiful resort. Private beach front. The staff was amazing and friendly, top notch service. There are several nice beaches nearby. No restaurants close by, the food at the resort is fine, but a pretty limited menu. This is the perfect place for a quiet get away, lots of nature, not a long drive to el recon de la vieja volcano which is amazing. It was very clean, we would return.
- Jess (8/5): Great Value - Wonderful Staff - I really enjoyed staying at Papagayo - the staff are all very sincere and friendly. The pool is heated (thank you!) but the hot water in my shower never got hot. The grounds are green and every room is a one-story bungalow, which means no room above (yay!). The beach is lovely and the food is decent, but it is worth going off property for better meals when you're in the mood. I'll be back for sure.
- neal (10/5): - Quiet , beautiful gardens , friendly helpful staff. Highly recommended !!
- Brian (10/5): Awesome stay! Def recommend - The place is awesome, a tad separated from the hustle and bustle of the area, which makes for a relaxing stay but you’re also close to the action / tours / excursions, but also has restaurant/ room service and of course the beach.
I found everything to be awesome, including the welcome by the monkeys in the trees outside my room (be careful what you leave outside!)
Would definitely return.
- Robert (10/5): - This hotel perfectly meets our expectations. It's quiet and charming.
- Thomas (8/5): - Loved the property as you can tell they are updating the rooms. Sat at the pool and watched monkeys play and eat. Wife and I had a very relaxing time.
- Sarah (10/5): - Beautiful property and landscaping! The room was clean and comfortable. The food was very good - both room service and breakfast. The staff was helpful and friendly.
