- Matthew (1/5): The facility was uninhabitable and unsafe. We could not stay there and were essentially ripped off. - We liked the location. The cabin had an overwhelmingly strong smell of rotten eggs. The stench was the strongest in one room (so bad we couldn't even enter it without retching), but it made the entire cabin stink so bad that in only ten minutes my entire family had a splitting headache and one of my kids got sick. There was clearly a gas leak making the cabin completely uninhabitable. We called the facility and learned that the smell was a known issue and that everyone complained about it, but that that there was nothing to worry about. They said it wasn't a gas leak, but just the smell of a musty old cabin. This was absolutely absurd. The facility was all booked up and so were the other hotels in Big Bear, so for the safety of my family we had no choice but to cut our losses and drive home that night, cutting our weekend trip short.

The mice infestation, they set traps after I called initally, but had to call everyday to get them cleared and re-baited. The floors were dirty, your feet would be black from walking to the living area(bring slippers). Old balls of pet hair were found in numerous places. It also had an odor. The pillows were completely wore out and unless you want to eat pieces of Teflon, bring your own cooking pan.

All cabinet door handles extremely dirty, ALL dishes dirty, no extra toilet paper, room on left extremely COLD DUE TO A HOLE ON WINDOW: Was told it was ok just to use a heater WHICH NEVER WORKED. They fixed hole with duct tape! :D!!

We had a mouse in the kitchen we’d see it run from base board to base board. Disgusting. There was small trash underneath beds a dirty sock left behind. The utensils and cook ware were filthy but put away as if clean. I even developed a stye. We stayed two nights in the second I woke up with a painful eye lid.

They had many cabins to choose from, and the property was pretty clean. We did have an issue with our toilet not working, and with 6 of us including 2 grand babies, it was important. Management did what they could, but unfortunately had to move us to a different cabin the next day. This was not their fault, and they did what they could for us. It did not ruin our time, and management made up for it on our next visit, which we will definitely come here again. Close enough to town, clean and reasonable, with some rustic cabins

- Silvia (6/5): I would never return. It’s old, noisy, kinda dirty. As nice as the host/manager lady was, they live on the property - Property itself is kinda nice, more like “ok”. Obviously old but it had string lights everywhere and trees. There’s a newer swing chair that’s absolutely crooked, hilarious they won’t fix it, it’s unusable. Pool looked nice but was locked at 4pm so that was disappointing. Terrible pool hours, makes ZERO sense to me. The pictures look better than the room. I booked the Fireside Cottage and it’s probably the most run down. Bad smell inside. It’s right on the Main Street practically so it’s VERY noisy when cars drive by. The towels were either new or just cheap cause it wouldn’t absorb any water off my body. No hangers in the room, had to ask for some.

We were the only people there, but were allowed could only have one bath towel (NO washcloths were provided)each at a time, including for use at the pool. Was told to text to exchange our bath towels after pool use. Grounds and facilities unkempt. Grey Squirrel was an extended family destination for reunions since the early 70's, and we last stayed in 2023. We then moved out of state and came back for nostalgia. What a disappointment. Do your loved ones a favor and don't subject them to this place.

- Keven (10/5): - Had a late check-in and Hether was an absolute doll and got to the office super quick. The property itself is beautiful...but just wait until night hits. The soft glow of lights around the property sets an amazing mood. Our cabin (Rustic Romance) was so cozy and inviting. Kichen, utensils, fridge, soap and sponges for dishes...its all there. My one and only gripe is the shower tends to get the floor wet. Other than that, this place has become our escape from city life.

- Alice (6/5): Peaceful property. - It had a nice atmosphere, not far from village or alpine slide area. Had a peaceful quality. The pool was biggest disappointment being that it’s described as heated when it’s not. The water was so cold and hard to get adjusted to, only used it once for short time of our 4 days stay. It was one of the main reasons for picking this property. Beds were uncomfortable and need updating. We had a mouse in our cabin for 2 nights of our stay although I recognize we’re in the mountains and bound to happen. We also needed more towels and weren’t allowed any extra so highly recommended bringing your own towels.

It felt more like a home than a hotel room with a full kitchen and refrigerator. Only thing missing was a washer and dryer! Pool was fun, hammocks and chairs under the lights at night was a good time! Not much to dislike but if I had to dislike something it would just be that the couches were low and I’m a tall guy. That’s all.

The grounds were kept clean. There is a gas firepit and horseshoes to enjoy and walking distance to Boulder Bay. Definitely will be staying here again.

- Robert (4/5): Fires & Vacuums & no hot water and no refind - The trip started out fine, but on the first night of three nights, the fire alarms went off and learned that there was a fire in a unoccupied hotel room on the third floor, which flooded most of the hotel after the fire department showed up. They proceeded to use water vacuums to suck up the water and yell at each other at 2 AM to about 4 AM that same evening the next morning we woke up to no hot water which they said should be fixed by the afternoon at 4 PM, there was no hot water and they told us there would be no hot water for the next 10 days and to go get a hotel somewhere else or deal with cold water we asked for a refund for the first night stay and have been fighting with them ever since to get a refund so although the hotel was in a great location, the trip and the customer service or a complete and utter disaster

- Caleb (2/5): - We recently stayed at the Gray Squirrel Resort. In cabin Rustic Romance, and while the cabin was absolutely beautiful upon arrival, we were extremely disappointed with the cleanliness. As we began bringing in our luggage and settling in, we quickly noticed that the cabin was in an unacceptable state. Upon closer inspection, we discovered dirt, bugs, and even leftover items from previous guests behind nearly every piece of furniture. It was evident that the space had not been thoroughly cleaned. When we went to store our food in the refrigerator, we were shocked to find the sides covered in ants, dirt, and even dead insects. The most unsettling issue, however, was the bed. The bedding was visibly dirty, and when we pulled back the bedspread, we found stains that we could only hope were chocolate. Fortunately, we had brought our own blankets, but this was far from the comfortable and relaxing experience we had anticipated. Instead of being able to unwind, we spent a significant amount of time cleaning everything we planned to use, which was both frustrating and disappointing.

- Ballan (1/5): Bad - Terrible! Do not stay here. Came home today from a weekend stay here. Only pros are that the beds were comfortable, for me, as I like a soft mattress. My husband likes it more firm and didn’t think they were comfortable. Also, there was an electric fireplace that warmed up the living room nicely. Those were the only pros. Here’s a long list of the cons, get ready: Dirty, sticky, nasty. Very little supplies in the kitchen. For example, I wanted to reheat fries in the oven, as a microwave would make them soggy. What do I put them on? Nothing. No cookie sheets or oven-safe ware. Had to throw the fries away. Provided a coffee pot and coffee grounds, but no sugar or creamer. What’s the point? Towels feel like they don’t dry. I think because the bathroom is freezing. That takes me to my next point. Bathroom ceiling heater lamp broken. Informed them via text. They said they would take a look. Was not fixed or given any remedy like a standing heater. Only one shower for a cabin that accommodates 6. Hot water doesn’t work right away. You literally have to “activate” the hot water to get the hot water heater to work and then take a shower 2 hours later. Figured this out after my two kids each took a cold shower. I texted the property in the evening as that is the only way to reach them Afterhours or for an emergency. They didn’t respond until the next morning. Their response….”the hot water isn’t endless. If you use it for anything else, it will run out quickly”. So, 4 people can’t get hot water for a cabin that accommodates 6? And we didn’t use it for anything else. Their office hours are only 9-5pm. Up to 7pm on Friday and Saturday. So, if anything comes up after that hour you are shit out of luck. As I mentioned before, they have an Afterhours texting line that they didn’t respond to until the next morning. What if it was a bigger emergency? Only Netflix available on the TV. You can’t watch any other TV. One of the bedrooms is freezing, if you close the door.
- Monika (4/5): Location was good pretty close to Main Street and Magic mountain. Would I stay here again? Probably not. - Outdoor area is big enough to walk your dog. Cottage was small but enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. Pretty close to down town shops and Magic Mountain. Inside was not very clean, floors looked dirty, kitchen drapes had black sticky dust all over them, blinds were very dirty. There was no baking pan in the oven. Big amount of dust on baseboards in one of the bedrooms, spiderwebs behind the door and bathroom smelled horrible. Towels also smelled very bad. And inside the microwave had dried up yellow something on the plate probably egg or some sort of sauce.
- Richmeier (5/5): Outdated cabin for big family - Location is close enough to skiing The cabin is very outdated and needs cleaning. There was spider web in the bathroom. Not enough blankets for cold weather. Heater is only in the living room. One shower in the master bathroom. Kitchen has no dishwasher, you have to hand wash your dishes. All fry pans burnt and scratched. We were needed bigger place for all of us, so it served the purpose.

- Shannon (6/5): Not worth money. Needs major updates & cleaning. - Check in is at exactly 4pm, don't even bother trying to get early check-in. Check in went well, easy; however, we had to call a phone number and wait for exactly 4pm to get in the front office. The code to get in the cabin was easy and convenient. Parking was great. The cabin itself was spacious; however, it was not great. It was, what i call, a speed clean - just the surface cleaning. I wasn't convinced the sheets were washed, either, as they looked very used with lint and hair on the pillows - just didn't feel clean, so I slept on top of the comforter with my winter coat and a blanket from my car, and i brought my own pillow - thank goodness. There was a quarter inch layer of dust under and around the beds. There was a dirty diaper under the bed and empty water bottles. There were candy wrappers under another bed, along with the layer of dirt and dust. Lots of cobwebs, dust on some pictures and in the corners of ceiling. The bathroom was okay, except for the booger on the wall, above the toliet paper roll. There was also only 1 wash cloth, which was weird for a family cabin. The entire cabin could use an update. The cabinets are old, the light fixtures are old and dirty. The TV is about 10ft off the floor, so it was hard to watch. The cabin was well-stocked, but i didn't use anyone in the cabinetsnor drawers. I didn't want to make a fuss, as i was with my young adult children, and wanted to just enjoy our time and not spend time complaining.

- Lira (8/5): - It's a decent place to stay if you are wanting a cozy cabin vibe. The property should stock more cooking implements though, and pots and pans and utensils. The kitchen is in need of a good deep cleaning. The beds are creaky. We like the layout for the 2 bedroom unit. If you have little kids that like to jump around inside the rooms and living areas, this is a good option. You don't have to worry about disturbing neighbors. Have not tried the pool. Overall, not fancy but great affordable option if you plan to be mostly out on the town or ski slopes, and not holed up inside a cabin for your Big Bear vacation.

- Donald (5/5): I enjoy being in Big Bear - I really don’t have an answer to this question. The cabins could have been kept in better condition than what it was for the money it cost to stay there. The pictures showed for the property looks better than in person.
- Adrian (4/5): The place was not clean and needs a refurbishment. - We got a warm welcome from the owner. The property is located centrally, in walking distance to some restaurants, the Boulder Bay Park and a small supermarket. Quiet, relaxed, and children friendly. The cottage we stayed in was a bit run down and not clean. We could see the effort of the owner to make to room cozy. This could not cover that a proper cleaning is urgently needed including some minor investments into dishes, bed sheets, sofa, and carpets. In this condition the place is not worth the money.

- Roger (1/5): GREY SQUIRREL RESORT IS NO RESORT - Not a thing! Cabin is an old dump. Everything is so old and run down. Relucantly stayed only 1 very uncomfortable night then checked out. No vacation time in Big Bear. I want my $535 refunded. This was a total disaster. Property owner will not renovate or improve anything according to staff. Place should be shut down. Not "rustic" just badly run down property. Send me my$535 refund posthaste. Do not stay there. On a scale of 1-10 it was a zero.
- Kirk (5/5): I would not recommend any one to stay there . - It was quiet. Close to town. The place looked like it hadn't been cleaned. Cob webs and dust everywhere. The bath tub had standing water in it and the calcium build up was disgusting. All the faucets in the kitchen, bathroom and shower dripped water and would not turn off after tightening. The pool needs to be resurfaced. Over all some tender loving care and money put into it, the place would be great!
- Deborah (5/5): Big Bear was beautiful, but we won’t stay here again. - It was pet friendly, but they do charge a hefty fee. The cabin had cobwebs and was dirty on the floor, there were a lot of rules posted and given by paperwork, that if you didn’t follow them you’d get charged more money. Most of the rules were about keeping the cabin clean, which was a complete joke! There was mold in the toilet and shower. The pool and pool area was dirty. The outside landscape could have used a good gardening and clean up. This place needs better housekeepers, a better gardener and a better pool guy! Beware there is a pet fee, per dog.

- Jeannie (8/5): - It was an ok stay. Bared minimum: plates, cups, glasses and utensils for 2, handwash everyday. Warm temp experienced at 91 degrees, no fans. Booked and paid for 3 nights, took off and went home after 2. Please ask this property to clearly post their pet friendly policy with FEES. Credit card was charged $303 upon check in. Overall it was nice coming up to the mountain and see the lake is filled up again after the rain we had.

Was charged for a pet feee when it wasn’t stated in all fees - The location, and overall comfort we made out of it The staff wasn’t really visible. Outdated, and rooms weren’t totally clean. Baseboards were dirty, no mops to clean for ourselves. Peoples stuff was there before us, we found dirty socks under the couch.

Was not happy with stay, did not get what paid for. - Not Alot Not Clean,Looked Dead,No pots Pans Utensils, No replacement of towels, area all around look like no-one thoroughly cleaned cabins or yards. Pool dirty, jacuzzis not up and running. Playground was beat looked like no one ever cleans spider webs everywhere. Never again was not happy with stay. Payed way to much for it.
