- Jeff (4/5): Normanton - Room was just okay. Singly operated and we were the only visitors . Everything worked but it was nowhere near as good as our previous visit 5 or so years ago. We were the only guests in the property with about 8 rooms that we were aware of. Breakfast was moderate . This is ok for a cheap night sleep but would not recommend to friends .
- Mary (10/5): Lovely stay - We had a lovely stay, bed room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very nice and the owner so helpful and kind. He’s been working on the hotel so it was a little tired and is still a work in process. But what has been done so far looks great. Short walk from the wonderful Rutland water, great for walks.
- Pauline (6/5): - Shocked that this place remains open. A desolate air about the whole place. One man keeps the place going and does his best and provides the cooked breakfast. No cereals available. Outside is unkempt and drab. No chef or restaurant facilities so had to drive to pub down the road. Rooms clean, but basic. Tv pixelates, cold tap not working properly. Bar not open on evening of arrival. Seems to be past its best, could be so much better. Not worth the money.
- Mark (4/5): - Booked for two night's, arrived to be told kitchen was close due to issues, room was dark, bed uncomfortable, cold tap broken, and towels smelt odd, went out to get something to eat and got back to find pub shut up, admittedly I had been given key code but left in room as wasn't expecting pub to close on a Friday night, so no evening pint, left in empty pub all night, but were told someone would do us breakfast, which was basic, came back later in day to find kitchen still shut so no food again, we had decided to stop in a pub so no worries with food! Decided to leave then as one night was enough.

- Colin (4/5): - The hotel was disappointing. The shower was not powerful. Breakfast was not good. We had to ask for orange juice and toast. Because we don't like cooked tomatoes or baked beans we got one fried egg, two bacon rashers, one sausage and some cold mushrooms, both days. I doubt we will stay again and we visit Rutland often. Definitely not good value at £108 per night
- Nigel (6/5): Just ok - The gentleman who greeted us was friendly and polite, our room was a good size and clean but quite basic and there were no toiletries provided as stated in the listing. There was supposed to be a bar, restaurant and coffee shop on site- non of these were open. Breakfast fast was ok but consisted of two options, take it or leave it, there was no fruit, cereal or juice just a basic English breakfast. Overall the place was ok for our one night stay but we wouldn’t return
- Penny (8/5): Booking error by Hotels.com - Hotels.com didn’t make me aware that the hotel was closed, the owners of the hotel were not expecting guests, as they were refurbishing the hotel, fortunately the hotel owners were great and arranged a room for me to stay. The hotel is in a good location to explore Rutland Water, I would be happy to stay again but wouldn’t book through Hotels.com

- Verified traveler (4/5): Bit of a shame - We stayed for 1 night, arrived late at night, there was someone present when we arrived and they checked us in, breakfast was to be served at 8:30 in the morning. We showed up at 8:40 for breakfast, no one there, we looked everywhere, not a soul, we tried calling the hotel, no answer. Breakfast isnt really included if theres no one to serve breakfast! We had to go somewhere else instead. Only plus point was that the beds were comfy.

- Kate (8/5): - I was booked in for 2 nights but ended up only staying 1 as my circumstances changed, it was nothing to do with the staff or property. On the whole my stay was fine , bedroom clean and comfortable. I didn’t eat there so am unable to comment. I suppose the only complaints would be , the shower was awful , it was more like a dripping tap !! And although there was a garden area , it was tucked away across the carpark and no part was in the sun , also the main entrance wasn’t easily identifiable.. but other than that , the staff were friendly and helpful and the property was ideal for my needs just being across the road from Rutland water where I was doing the 2K Rutland swim
- Neil (10/5): Idyllic Pub and Rooms in Chocolate box village - A proper Jewel in a crown of a County. About 10 mins from Oakham and 15 from the A1. Located in one of the many chocolate box villages. Large open bars and restaurant where nothing was too much trouble. Large car park and idyllic upper permenant Gazebo area with tables and comfy furniture. We ate outside under the canopy relaxed by the sound of the waterfall. The place was so quiet and relaxing that we felt we had the place to ourselves. So much so we stayed there all afternoon/evening and didn't venture out until the next day. Both my wife and I felt so at home. The food was absolutely to die for and so much care and attention was given. Cooked to perfection and presented so well. I couldnt finish my steak it was so large. So unusual for me. I was devastated lol but comfortably full and that was without eating the fries. My wife said it was the best duck she had ever eaten. The room was clean and airy. The bathroom clean and well maintained. Despite all the rooms being booked we spent a quiet night. We messed up as we didnt realise that Breakfast was included. After the evening meal experience, we realised we had missed out big time. We won’t the next time we stay, you can be sure of that. A big shout out to the hosts who were incredibly welcoming and fabulous chefs 👍 It would be an incredible wedding venue! In fact now I'm here I'm booking again!!!

- Verified traveler (6/5): A Curate's Egg? - Easy to find with good off-road parking. We opted for an evening meal which was very good, suggesting that our breakfast the following morning would be equally good. After a good night's rest, we emerged at the agreed time only to be ignored for 15 minutes. Breakfast tables had not been laid and the only free table was still sticky. There was no menu. When our breakfasts arrived, cereal was presented in what looked like a dog's bowl plus a soup spoon. The cooked breakfast arrived with burnt tomatoes and sliced bread that had merely been presented to a toaster. Marmalade was provided in a small bowl, where two distinct flavours had been merged. Overall, the morning experience was one of chaos with people coming and going with little interaction with the guests, such that we felt like an inconvenience.
- Sara (10/5): Loved Noel at Whitwell - My friend and I had a lovely stay here last night. We arrived in the afternoon and were warmly welcomed by Karen. We were really well looked after by Karen and her team and nothing was too much trouble. Our twin room was lovely and the beds really comfortable with lovely touches in the bathroom in case we had forgotten anything. Our food in the restaurant was delicious … the best steak I have had in a while and my friend said her burger was amazing. A real gem of a place at Rutland and we will definitely be back! So lovely to find somewhere with great food, comfortable rooms and amazing customer service. Thank you Karen and your team!
- Kieran (6/5): - We chose to stay here due to the easy access to Rutland Waters which was a lovely short walk away. The stay itself was ok, we had a slight incident of someone coming into our room thinking it was empty (could do with some chains on the doors or do not disturb signs or checking your own booking info), also if your running the place don't be the one being extra noisy at midnight, this was only one of the nights and probably a one off incident but kinda put a dampener on the weekend due to the lack of sleep after both incidents. Breakfast was lovely though and the chef was really nice and accommodating. Like I say perfectly placed to visit the lake and local villages. I hope our incidents were probably one offs

- Glenn (10/5): Couldn't do enough for me - I booked the Noel very last minute as I had to travel on business and avoid the forecasted storms. Despite me only placing my booking at almost 10.30pm, the owners went out of their way to contact me, ensure me that I would be able to get into the hotel and make my room super cosy for my arrival. Over and above what I would expect from any hotel to be honest and it didn't end there, even though their chef was off the following day, I was provided with a lovely cooked breakfast to see me on my way. Absolutely lovely people and can't thank them enough for looking after me so well.I would have no hesitation staying here again and in fact I hope that I will have to one day soon. Thanks again
- Connie (8/5): - Karen and her team had only been in the property for a short time before our visit and the project is a work in progress. The bar and dining areas have been tastefully revamped. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The team were very friendly and helpful. The food, both breakfast and evening meal was delicious. The Noel is ideally placed for visiting Rutland Water and surrounding area.

- Denise (8/5): Noel at Whitwell - Good food, friendly, helpful staff and a lovely area to explore around Rutland water. Room decor a little tired and could do with a little facelift but all things considered we would definitely stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable stay - The important question first: would I stay there again, and the answer is certainly yes. Bear in mind that this is formerly an old pub and some of the rooms have a quirkiness to go with it. Nevertheless, they are comfortable with everything you would expect from a modern hotel. The restaurant is good - don't miss Steak Night - and is recently reopened so the menu isn't in full swing. I've docked a point as the restaurant heating was broken for part of our stay but we were fine with big sweaters! Ian at front of house with Samuel in the kitchen are making a good job of getting the customers back.

The bar serves local beer from pumps and there were so many gins to choose from. The restaurant area was very nicely decorated and lovely and spacious too. Mark the owner greeted us so warmly when we arrived and the waitress was so attentive we felt quite spoilt! The food is amazing - I recommend the pie - and quite honestly the cooked breakfast is the best we’ve ever had!

- Peter (10/5): Excellent Covid-secure stay - Quiet, comfy room for two nights, with excellent dinner and breakfast. The proprietor and staff have worked hard to create a safe and enjoyable environment during the current covid restrictions. Everything is cleaned, one-way system, sanitisers, excellent table spacing and no congestion areas. We felt very safe. The proprietors will turn away groups who they don't feel sure are within the rules and are committed to safety.

- Derek (6/5): Cer one night stay. - Helpful people who run and operate the hotel. A few problems. Willow is a very noisy bedroom with an unpleasant hum coming from either a refrigeration unit or something else. When we arrived, no toilet paper.The towels were damp. No heating of any sort. At least have a heated towel rail. The room was adequate and small with just one small window up quite high. For £130 per night, we have had much much better in the UK and certianly over the channel. Breakfast from 8.30 till 9.390. We arrived at 9.10am. No cereal bowls! Had to ask. The cold buffet was pretty basic. The coffee was weak. The full English breakfast was generous. The room did not live up to the 'look' in the photographs on the website. If the price had been more reasonable then we might have accepted the various complaints.
