Guest Reviews
- Tara (8/5): - Great location near the West Entry. Small & cozy.
- Clara P (10/5): Loved this historic chalet. Beautiful! - We stayed at the historic chalet for a couple of nights in early October. We had a wonderful room with balcony on the main floor. Room was very clean. The bed was great.
The view from our balcony was amazing. The trees were changing colors, and it was so wonderful to sit outdoors to enjoy the view.
We had read some reviews about the train noise, but we were not bothered at all. The room was well insulated.
Front desk employees were kind and helpful. Pastries and coffee in the morning were delicious.
Beautiful hotel! We would choose to stay at the Belton again!
- lee C (6/5): - The restaurants staff was excellent – the front desk staff were terrible. Poorly trained, obviously uninterested in their job or their guests, clearly did not have an inkling of how to deal with guests at a unique hotel like this. motel six has better front desk staff- with some minor upgrades and major staff changes. This could be a truly great hotel.
- Wes (10/5): - Very unique period property. Very well kept. Be prepared as you’ve read that the rooms are small and the floors creak. Very pretty. Very clean. Staff great. Restaurant on site 100% one of my favorites. Kort was our waitress and she was amazing! Just remember this is not a new/renovated facility. Meant to be kept historical! Quite the unique experience!
- Steven (10/5): - Perfect
- Leigh (10/5): - This place was beautiful! Tuckex back into the woods. Very cozy and comfy. Loved sitting on the ba k deck. The restaurant was delicious.
- Kathy (6/5): - A nice historic place to stay but be warned there is no elevator. When making reservations, the facility should be making it very clear that there is no elevator.
- Michelle (8/5): - Friendly staff. Quaint, small room with balcony. Historic, so squeeky floors, no tv, fridge, coffee pot or microwave. Not enough parking & need to drive to conveniences. Most expensive place of our trip with least amenities. Game room downstairs was nice. Small gift shop.
- manuel (8/5): - Old classic inn. Nicely restored with acceptable amenities. b\Bar and Restaurant excellent. Train passes by at all hours
- Susan (10/5): Chalet in West Glacier - The Belton Chalet is located just outside the west entrance to Glacier. The bed was comfortable. The staff were wonderful. The restaurant was excellent too. We loved the mushroom pappardelle with elk sausage and the bison meatloaf.
- katherine (10/5): - Beautiful grounds. Quaint setting. Room was small but part of the nostalgia. Lots of thoughtful little touches
- Lowell (4/5): - First, the positives: classic, 115 year old hotel. Beautifully maintained, small but quaint rooms. No air conditioning, and it was August hot. The biggest problem is basically unsolvable, the railroad track and highway 2 is right next to the hotel. 10 freight trains at least went through there the first night, very noisy, and highway 2 is a main east west route. We tried to keep the window open for cool air but the noise made it impossible. We will not stay here again and would have passed if we had known about the issues.
- Susan (6/5): - Make sure you understand that the rooms are very tiny and have limited room for suitcases or bags and no dresser or closet or way to unpack. Also wish there was coffee service earlier or better yet a fridge and way to make coffee in the game room downstairs. This makes it really tough to get an early start in the mountains...
- Vicki (4/5): - The place is very rustic. Room is tiny. Sink is in bedroom and not bathroom and hot/cold faucets are separate. Floors squeak and every noise from surrounding rooms can be heard.
- Sherrill (6/5): - Staff were very friendly, wonderful restaurant and bar. Room was dated with limited amenities, no refrigerator or microwave, very narrow shower. Very historic
- Moses (10/5): - The staff was friendly and attentive. The room was clean. The hotel is a unique historical place.
- Gregory (10/5): - Nice historic setting.
- Michele (10/5): - .
- Ariel (10/5): - Historic hotel in a great condition, looks and feels like a real mountain lodge. The lobby is super beautiful, nice place to hang out with others. The bed was comfortable, bath good size, everything worked well. Wifi worked very well.
- Janet (10/5): - It's one of the Classic Hotels in Glacier, a must do at least once in your life. We enjoyed our time at the Chalet, the fireplace and coffee and muffins were a nice treat in the chilly mornings. Make reservations for dinner, also excellent food and drink!
- Sandra (8/5): - Close to Going to the sun road. Frequent trains. Need reservations for restaurant. Squeaky floors. Very small room. Not well insulated from noise from other rooms. Quaint historic building. Parking across the street once rear parking fills up. Nearby Highland restaurant was good.
- THERESA (10/5): - Chalet was nice and the staff was very accommodating. The woods floors are very creaky and you could hear every footstep
- Pushkar (6/5): - Not bad for older property! Price being too high for such property! Location is grest!
- Minette (8/5): - Excellent location, but the rooms were small and outdated . The floor was very squeaky , even upstairs.
Hard to sleep, you could hear even the toilet flush .
Very clean property. Their restaurant is very convenient ,good food and helpful staff.
- Pamela (10/5): Amazing Stay - Our stay at Belton Chalet was amazing. Such an quaint lodge. The woman at the front desk was so helpful and courteous (wish I could remember her name). The room was nice with little welcoming touches. We ate at the restaurant there and had a wonderful meal with the family. I would highly recommend staying here.
- Cindy (10/5): - One of the first lodges built in West Glacier! Very charming historical place. Minutes drive from Glacier National Park Entrance! Clean and good food at restaurant. I would definitely stay again!!
- Melissa (10/5): - Great
- Susan and Michael (10/5): - Beautiful property! Clean and quiet!
- Cindy (6/5): - Very small room.
Could only have tea & coffee 6-9 am
- Pam (10/5): - Great location and view. People were outstanding
- Richard (6/5): - If you want to stay in a historic early 1900’s destination hotel this it. Lots of atmosphere. If you want modern amenities, look elsewhere. Small rooms with creaky floors, no TV, no AC.
Pleasant staff, clean and you couldn’t be closer to Glacier.
- Patricia (6/5): - Be prepared for a quaint, cozy room. This isn’t a modern hotel with the usual modern amenities. Location is by active train tracks, which are loud.
- Jeff (10/5): - This was the perfect into to glacier to rest and relax before our hiking adventures.
- Sherri (8/5): - Quaint historic railroad hotel.
- Daniel (10/5): - We really enjoyed the historic aspect of Belton chalet. It certainly reminded me of my grandparents home from the 1940s. The personal note was very special and certainly a keepsake. The guests are like-minded people who were mostly that we met traveling for hiking at GNP.
The complimentary coffee and pastries was wonderful. We had an enjoyable visit with other couples in the lobby.
The parking is not adequate. We had to park our car across the road on gravel. It was dangerous crossing the highway, dark, exceedingly inconvenient.
The staff was excellent! However, finding the check-in desk was very frustrating. We walked into the restaurant at the lower level. We walked into the lower level of the actual lodge building. And finally behind a bush, we saw a sign with an arrow that said check in. It was hard to see, and we spent probably eight minutes walking around, trying to find where the check-in desk was located.
- Ann (10/5): - Great historical hotel! Room was clean, bed comfortable and great coffee! All staff were friendly!
- Mike (8/5): - Great owner clean friendly small town atmosphere
- Sandra (10/5): - The Belton is absolutely beautiful and very convenient access to the park entrance.
- George (10/5): - The staff was welcoming and nice .The room was spotless couldn't ask for more would definitely recommend this property. The restaurant on site was excellent had wild salmon my son had a ribeye steak that was excellent thank you for a great time can't wait to go back.
- Carol A. (8/5): - Charming old railway inn. Great restaurant. Be prepared to climb stairs. Convenient to Glacier National Park, but not in the park.
- Joan (10/5): - We loved the location of the chalet and all the amenities that it offered. It had coffee and a pastry in the morning, which was really convenient and the staff was so helpful. Internet access was good.
- Melissa (10/5): Charming hotel! - There are many negative reviews. Which are subjective. This is a beautiful historic hotel that has maintained its charm. If you are only happy with modern box hotels this probably wont be for you.
We had a top floor back of the hotel room. Never heard floors creaking aside from our own and couldnt hear any trains. I slept like a baby.
Absolutely charming building.
- Gary (10/5): - Was very rustic, bring back thoughts of what life must have been like. Bed waswas firm verg
- Richard (10/5): - Great historic inn. Helpful staff. Complementary breakfast pastries. Easy to walk into town for shops restaurants.
- Bharat (6/5): - Location is excellent. Staff was very nice and helpful. But rooms are very small. At restaurant, service was not great. Parking is limited. Should have breakfast available at the hotel since everyone wants to leave early.
- Nicholas (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at Belton Chalet. Beautiful, historic property that is well taken care of. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed two dinners at the restaurant located on the property. I really enjoyed the room with balcony that has views to Glacier National Park. Hope to visit again someday in the future.
- Ronald (8/5): - The hotel is in a great location, very near the park. It’s very clean and staff was courteous and attentive. A little old feeling as it is a historic building. Lacks updated amenities in the room, but that seems to be the vibe they are going for and honestly was just fine for our trip.
We loved the restaurant on site and ate there a couple times during our stay. Food was excellent.
- William (8/5): - The staff at the Belton Chalet were wonderful and very welcoming. The hotel is historic..which also means the rooms are pretty small and a bit outdated in some ways. And the price point was very high but I think thats pretty standard for this time of year.
- Verified traveler (8/5): An okay at The Belton Chalet - We stayed at the Historic Belton Chalet for 3 nights in order to explore West Glacier. Our room was smaller and a little more rustic than expected; although it is a historic lodge so we weren't surprised. Be aware that the trains don't just come in twice a day, or twice at night, they come through A LOT.
And they're loud. They do have ear plugs and noise machines in the rooms so just keep it in mind if you're a light sleeper. The free coffee in the morning is fairly weak, but they do offer one free small pastry each morning. We enjoyed sitting outside on the concrete picnic tables and benches in the evening to play cribbage. Belton is within walking distance to Freda's restaurant which we enjoyed breakfast and lunch at. All in all, our stay was comfortable, but more expensive than what we feel was offered.
- Jean (8/5): - Quaint old lodge! Very convenient to Glacier National Park! Staff was friendly, room clean, good restaurant!
- Sheryl (6/5): - The train going by every 30 minutes is pretty bad
- Chris (8/5): - No AC overall njce place and restaurant
- Donna (8/5): - Super convenient to Glacier National Park. The staff clerks were less than friendly (just doing their job, basically). There was a note on the bed that said enjoy this welcome box but there was no welcome box. I asked the girl when we were checking out, she said oh yeah, we were missing one item so we didn't put them out - then don't leave a card that says you did! Anyway, the room was comfortable, pretty small but we were just looking for a place to sleep. It wasn't the quietest place we stayed either but again, it is literally right outside the park entrance.
- jeffrey (8/5): - Bring ear plugs for the trains. Otherwise great spot
- Allan (10/5): Best lodging on the west side of Glacier National! - Amazing atmosphere, comfortable and clean. Rustic, historic building, lovely balcony with fabulous views. Awesome restaurant on property.
- Penny (10/5): - We loved the charming character of the chalet! Staff was wonderful and the restaurant was delicious!
- REBEKA (10/5): - Close to Glacier national park
- Steve (10/5): - Property located just outside of the entrance to Glacier National Park makes it the ideal spot to wake up and make the most of the day at the park. Doesn’t get more convenient and the rustic feel is exactly what you want in the mountains. Staff is very friendly too!
- Martin (10/5): - Fun to stay in a piece of American history; beautiful restoration and full of ambiance. Rooms are small and expensive - like everything in a town open only 3 months a year - but well worth it for making a memory and being close to the park
- Ahmed H (10/5): - Simply amazing! The property was amazing, and the location is very convenient and central for your stay at the Glacier NP! I highly recommend it.
- Max (10/5): - Staff/customer service was excellent
- Siddharth (8/5): - Great place and great location. If you love the sound of trains, this is the place to be. Rooms are small but cozy. However, the person who checked us out seemed disinterested and was rude.
- Julie (10/5): - Very clean!
- Christine (10/5): - We appreciated being able to stay at a historic hotel. It was small, rustic and a step back in time. I spent time imagining travel to that area when it was first built. It reminded me of a smaller version of Wildwood Springs Lodge in Steelville, Missouri. We stayed for one night and were happy to be away from the crowds in West Glacier. You can hear the trains, but they didn’t bother me and my husband and the fresh mountain air (no ac) was soothing. Pack light as the rooms are small. Having a tasty restaurant on site was the icing on the cake. Make reservations! The salad with smoked trout was a work of art! The staff was lovely and it was a charming experience overall!
- Jiantao (4/5): - The hotel is next to a railway. Trains kept coming all night and the noise woke up everyone in the hotel.
- Mehrdad (10/5): - Friendly Staff, Short distance to Park, Nice bar & restaurant
- Maura (10/5): - This lodge is a beautiful, rustic inn right outside of the west Glacier Entrance to Glacier National Park.
- Tricia (10/5): Excellent service - Excellent service from the front desk attendent. Loved the personal note with candies laying on my bed when we checked into the room. Loved the old atmospere and history of the chalet. Would definitly stay here again.
- Audrey (10/5): - Loved my stay at the Belton Chalet. It was very comfortable and cozy. The building is older so it is easy to hear noise in your room, but they provide ear plugs and noise machine which helped me sleep soundly regardless. Their restaurant next door is excellent. It is very close to the West Glacier entrance. I'm hoping to stay with them again in the future!
- Douglas (10/5): - Very convenient to Glacier Park, unusual and historic building, very cooperative and helpful staff
- Pamela (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay.Walkable distance to the Amtrak train station was a plus. Our room was comfortable, but very basic. There was no closet, chest, refrigerator or microwave. Everyone at Belton chalet was exceptionally nice. In fact, everyone in West glacier was nice and very helpful.
- George (10/5): - Quiet
Close parking
Easy to access room
Close to downtown airport
- Paul (10/5): - The Belton Chalet is a beautiful, old hotel. It has lots of character. There are many great sitting areas. Landscaping is great. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Rooms are pretty small and do not have TV's. Since it is an old building the rooms have character, but the floors and squeaky and the walls fairly thin. This makes them sort of noisy in the mornings as neighbors leave early for nearby Glacier. The train also rumbles through regularly pretty close by. The Chalet is a 5 minute drive to West Glacier and the park entrance. There aren't too many breakfast spots close by. Good coffee and pastries are provided each morning.
- Pam (8/5): - We very much liked our stay here. Travelers should know that this property is "quaint." Our room was very small with little room to stow our luggage. With wooden floors, it's not perfectly quiet and people are not always mindful about their voices. There is also a train that comes by regularly, which is part of the property's history. No worries, they issue ear plugs! The train never bothered us. If you like quaintness and historical properties, this one is for you. If you prefer amenities and more of a hotel-like atmosphere, you might want to think twice. The staff is amazingly helpful. We would stay here again.
- Rebekah (10/5): - The restoration of the property was done very well. They also had a cute welcome gift and handwritten note. The beds were so comfy! The coffee and pastry in the morning was much appreciated.
Since my bedroom was on the back side of the property, the outside noise was quiet. Some hallway noise could be heard under the door from the other guests, but I guess that’s why you were provided with ear plugs.
- Deborah (8/5): We were just glad to find a room. - It was a very small room. No AC or TV. Was very clean. Bed was comfortable. Not so quiet, floors creaked loudly. Our room was next to the outdoor steps. People walking up and down until 11pm or so. I would stay here again though.
- Dawn (2/5): - This was probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed in at this price point. The bed was more a hammock than a bed. The Restaurant is not attached to the hotel and don't serve breakfast. As a gift they give you ear plugs and let you know there is a "white noise" machine in the room due to the freight trains that feel they are outside your room all night.
No tea/coffee or any other amenities in room, apart from ear plugs!
The proximity to the West entrance to Glacier Park, about 1.5 miles is really only plus.
Overall very uncomfortable with little else to offer. Not up to present day standards.
- Brenda (10/5): - Everyone was so nice and helpful.. the restaurant was great! Close to shopping as well
- Christina (8/5): - Great hospitality and unique rooms!
- Robert (2/5): - This was a very dated, very noisy property. Even though it is historical, it could be made far more comfortable.
The breakfast was a small pastry with a limit of 1 per customer. The hotel would not give any customer who was staying more than 1 night a paper go cup. Who has ever heard of a policy like this?
The restaurant was very good especially the service.
- Andrea (10/5): - I liked the homey feel and the historic look. I really appreciated the coffee and muffins in the morning. The shower was great. The pillows gave me a kink in my neck, unfortunately, but all else was good.
- Karen (6/5): - Great location. Very old hotel with creaky wood floors. We were on the bottom floor and it sounded like people were moving furniture in the room above us. Also tons of trains passing very close by. This was the first time a hotel has ever provided earplugs in a welcome package.
Women at the front desk were unable to explain why my bill was higher that what I agreed to. I asked each day about the charges and they passed the buck. Never got an explanation, even during check out. I've booked with Hotels.com for years and this is the first time I have been overcharged by the hotel. They didn't honor the hotels.com contract.
- Marcus (8/5): - Really nice hotel, but I think I was expecting it to be a lot nicer from the photos and such a high review.
Something to be known to others, is that the train comes past nearly every hour which is right out the front.
- Edmund (8/5): - The location was minutes from the entrance to West Glacier National Park. The room was cozy and comfortable. Their restaurant was fantastic. But the 100+ car freight trains that drove by late at night and early in the morning made sleeping thru the night difficult.
- Bonnie (10/5): - This was a quaint, step back in time location! The sound of the train never bothered us. Loved the restaurant too!! Great food. Would
Highly recommend this location while in West Glacier!
- Adam (10/5): - The staff was exceptional and very welcoming.
- Andrew (8/5): - Very cute chalet very close the entrance to Glacier National Park. There is NO air conditioning so luckily for us it didn’t get too hot but if you are coming in July or august we he room may get stuffy. Parking gets full and can be tricky when it is busy. The room is smaller than the typical hotel room in the US but is perfect for a couple.
- Laurie (10/5): - V
- Alex (10/5): - We loved it. Only note I have is that the property claims to be haunted and I am scared of that so I had some troubles sleeping. I didn’t think I saw any mention of that on the listing but it’s probably good to know.
- Patricia (8/5): - We enjoyed the history ofthe building, rustic feeling, but very comfortable.
- Cierra (10/5): - This was a truly wonderful experience. Staying at the Belton offered a charming, historic atmosphere, conveniently located just outside the park. The property is absolutely beautiful, and the restaurant provided the best dining experience we had during our stay.
- CHRISTINE (10/5): - The room was so well appointed for the historical story of the building and area. Staff was welcoming and helpful. Outside seating areas with views. Restaurant food although expensive was delicious and well presented.
- Wesley (10/5): - Fantastic, authentic, pristinely preserved old hotel. It’s like stepping back in time, but tastefully redesigned with all the necessary modern amenities. Except don’t look for a television, but there is no time for television with all there is to do in the park.
- Joanne (8/5): - Belton charged me a $250.00 deposit for each night on the last three nights of my stay, a total of $750! That was, of course, in addition to the already pre-paid hotel rate through Hotels.com. They refused to give me a reciept for any of these deposits. Restaurant expenses are supposed to be taken off of the deposit(s) at this property. Restaurant staff played sickening little games pretending I had no room at the hotel, like placing your dinner at the empty table setting next to yours as if it was not your order, etc. They claimed that they were having problems with their computer system, and could not take the restaurant charge off of my deposit - so I had to pay the restaurant directly, with my card rather that putting it 'on the room'. They might have been having computer issues, but I did not appreciate their sickningness and inapproprate behaviour at the restaurant, esp. when I had put down $750 for amenities - which was supposed to include the restaurant. I still have no notice that this $750 has been refunded or released.
- Joanne (10/5): - Exceptional except for:
1. No elevators and lots and lots of stairs in this old charming place. Keep your heavy bags elsewhere.
2. Their restaurant: Belton Restaurant, which have not yet reviewed. 5 star reputation, substandard service, small portions, 3 star cuisine with a limited menu. Very disappointing. I wish I had taken a pic to share of the miniture chicken dinner with the frozen diced vegetables (carrots, peas, etc) as a side that cost me $30.
- Philip (10/5): - We almost didn’t stay based on the train review by someone. The train did go by but never blew its horn. Hardly noticed it and it went by more than once. The building is like stepping back in time a 100 years. What a treat it was to stay there. Awesome place!!!
- Michelle (4/5): - Views were nice and proximity to the park were nice but that’s where the positives end. Creaky floors, noise that travels down the hallway. Train that’s 30 yards away and restaurant only open for dinner and extremely pricy. The beds are not queen size either. They are full size and the shower is equivalent to a standup locker room shower.
- Michael (6/5): - Very quaint, but very small rooms.
- Richard (10/5): - Excellent property amazing restorant friendly and very helpful staff around . Parking available at the property .
- Kierstan (10/5): - I loved staying here. Very authentic, relaxing, and clean. I loved that we could open the windows in our room to adjust the temperature and that they also offered a white noise machine. Free coffee and pastries in the morning, and right outside of the Glacier National Park West Entrance. It’s perfect.
