Guest Reviews
- Ben (7/5): Great experience, shame about the wifi, but nice to have a break from my phone on a lovely trip - Location couldn't be better, seconds away from the resort, the spa was also lovely and the bed was very comfortable Wifi did not work the entire time I was there
- Matthew (10/5): Easy access to lifts - Great location Nothing
- Gustav (6/5): - Close to the slopes, small but nice Onsen at the hotel Would benefit from a general modernization, feels a bit outdated
- Lynne (10/5): - Great location, breakfast was good, facilities are good.
- Gładyś (8/5): Great value for money. - Close to ski, cheap, clean. Poor ski equipment rental options. No late night common rooms to socialize. Perhaps an average age of guests around 40+ makes it a little too old for youth :))
- Nicolas (10/5): -
- oakhead (8/5): -
- Mario (4/5): - Location
Clean Bedroom too noisy
Facilities too old
Lack of lights
- Ross (8/5): - Location, price and ease of transport. The nightly buffet was good and staff were very pleasant Property was old but great value for the location. The beds were very comfortable

- Philippa (7/5): Great location, tasty Japanese food - Brilliant location & amazing local food.
Its the original accommodation build for the 1998 Olympics, so in places a bit threadbare, but to be honest we looked past this with the food & location suiting us very well. Also Shigakogen is a local resort, so not over priced. We will book again! We had Japanese pillows - ie filled with buck wheat - for first few days till it occurred to me to ask of they had western soft pillows, which they do!

- Linda (9/5): Super! - Good location for skiing in both the Central and the 烧额山area Value for money, especially for single traveler. Big room
- Jade (9/5): Wonderful property just steps from lift and slopes. Great, helpful staff. - Great location and all amenities available for comfort and convenience. Nothing to dislike.
1.不知道是不是尾房的原因,房间信号很差,也搜不到这层楼的WiFi;
- Yuzhen (6/5): Very old and rustic facility. it’s pricey for what it offers compare to Hakuba. - it’s very close to bus stops and right in front of ichinose family ski resort. Heater is very loud. It has a loud knocking sound. Facility is old. The vending machine doesn’t accept the new 1000yen cash. amenities are lacking. The public bath is moldy and many ceiling is broken.
- Robert (6/5): Amazing location and traditional vibe right next to the slopes at Ichinose - Combination traditional rooms are great with nice windows for fresh air and a tatami room. Two twin beds along with futon pads made for sleeping options for everyone's liking. The hotel bath (onsen) was nice and well maintained. Facilities are pretty dated with a significant 80's/90's vibe, and florescent lighting. Pillows were overstuffed buckwheat which were over stiff and a bit dusty.
- Patrick (7/5): -
- Kevin (1/5): Old and outdated property -
- Yohei (6/5): -
- Lydia (7/5): - The location was very good and easy to get to via bus. The room was large It is advertised as a shared bathroom but this is a japanese style shared bathroom with public bath and no private options available. Perhaps normal for Japan but unexpected as a first timer!
- Burditt (3/5): The locker room was nice in the location was great, but I won’t be staying there again. The staff doesn’t speak English, - Location is great, as are most places at the resort. Heater was so noisy that you better be prepared to be woken up throughout the night. I ended up covering it with blankets. Also you have no control over it and it was too hot for. I didn’t like the beds on the ground, but that is the norm around here for traditional Japanese establishment. My room actually had a shower however the way that it was set up you couldn’t actually use it without having in your hand in the tub was worthless because it was about 4 feet wide by 2 feet long however it was at least 3 feet deep. Very strange set up. I don’t know why they wouldn’t just put a hanger up so that you could actually use the shower without having to hold in your hand. I was told other guests that there are many rooms that didn’t even have a shower which meant they had to go into the hot spring area, which is nice however it means you’re taking your shower naked in front of a bunch of other people, regardless of if you want to use the onsen or not The food was good however, in my opinion, very wasteful the appetizers or buffet was more than enough to feed me and then everyone gets a hot pot on the table with raw meat and raw veggies for you to cook. I never eat more than 1/4 of it and they just threw everything else away. I would still have an option where you could tell them if you wanted any hot pot or not and how much you might want they didn’t provide sheets. All the Pride was a big heavy down comforter which if the room was cold would’ve been great however it wasn’t so I’ll be either sweating or freezing.
- Philip (8/5): great place for low to mid budget travellers and friends or family groups. Nice Onsen great food - very good value in terms of food, room and price. Large room for 2 can apparently take 6 the building is a little tired and the bar is unstaffed when we were there but the staff were very helpful
- Daniel (10/5): Excellent - Location- literally opposite the ski lift.
Staff- professional, polite and accommodating.
Meals- for the price, it was excellent.
Room size- my room for 2 could easily fit 4. Nothing
- Peter (7/5): - Location Beds
- James (8/5): Great Family Holiday - Traditional Japanese Lodging in a Great Location, Clean and Friendly Staff, nice buffet breakfast. Only negative was room was warm overnight however you can open doors to assist.
- Rose (7/5): Comfortable enough, great location, everything you need if you're not looking for luxury - Took a gamble on this property based on other users' mixed reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it isn't the nicest accommodation, but it has everything you need - a bed, a bathroom, lovely staff, a large warm ski room, and incredible ski resorts practically at your door. I would recommend getting a room with a private bathroom if you can, and also bringing your own pillow because the ones provided are super firm. Some reviews complain about the darkness of the hotel but honestly did not find an issue, and you have to respect they are in a somewhat remote location so electricity and water especially during winter would be scarce and expensive. Breakfast is amazing! Ample food, too many options, but make sure you arrive before 8am.
We arrived before check in and they let us store our stuff so we could go ski until our room was ready, which was very generous.
The buffet dinner isn't every night, and it fills up quick so plan well ahead with that. There are no atms that we found in the Shiga Kogen area!!! Quite a few spots only take cash, so stock up before you get out there. There are also no grocery/convenience stores, so bring food with or plan to eat out every night (most places require a reservation). It's what keeps the area peaceful and not busy, which is an absolute positive imo.
10/10 location. Ichinose is a great base, as you can access all the other resorts super easily, as well as Okushiga which is not part of the central area. Most of the restaurants are in walking distance, if not there are buses, with the Ichinose stop being like 200m up the road. The main thing I was not impressed with was our room had a water leak in the corner, that had obviously been going for a while. We would wake up with super puffy faces and a bit groggy feeling... maybe a slight mold problem. Not really a nice prospect for a multi night stay.

- Cyrina (8/5): Good location and spacious room - Good location, it is right next to the ski rental shop and the lift. The lady in the reception is helpful. My Japanese room is spacious. Breakfast and dinner choices are not much. However it is acceptable in a remote resort hotel. Some Japanese and Westerners did not wash their whole bodies properly before jumping into the onsen. It is recommended to put notice in several languages to remind proper onsen attire.
- Eric (8/5): Big comfortable room with snowy view! - Great location, helpful and friendly staff, good food, dated decor but clean and comfortable.
- N (8/5): - Hotel is a bit old. But room is quite big. Staff can speak good English enough to communicate with customers. Dinner is a bit expensive but compared to other hotels, the price is not that high. The food is not so good but better than go outside. No hair dryer in the room. And water in the bathroom isnt hot in the evening
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good location to slopes and nice dinner set.
- Verified traveler (4/5): No bath for you... - This hotel will only let you take a shower from 14:00 to 23:00. If you were hoping to get a shower in the morning, you are simply out of luck.
The explained reason for this nonsensical rule is that they need time for “cleaning” (15 hours per day apparently), but when we were finally allowed to go in the bath area it was filthy with colorful scum in the corners and between the tiles.
The rooms are also very stuffy and hot with no way to control the temperature other than to open the window. Unfortunately, every window has a sticker telling you not to leave the window open as “monkeys will invade” (not making this up). How about some window screens instead of more ridiculous rules?
Everything about this hotel is done for the convenience of the owners and not for the guests. They need to rethink their priorities.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - old hotel but great chef!
