Guest Reviews
- Alex (8/5): Nice hotel, but noisy road at front - Restaurant food is very good, staff are super friendly.
Price is also fair, rooms are clean and cozy Very noisy road outside the front, no soundproofing.
Traffic passing 24 hours a day (HGVs).

- Michael (8/5): A pleasant stay nice staff good breakfast -
- Jonathan (5/5): Not as expected -
- Olga (10/5): -
- casper (1/5): - Looks nice on the put side Hotel hallway was not clean or hoovered, dusty hoover and towels left out side room.
The room it self was overly dusty, curtiansripped to bits, stains on the walls and a massive pile of bird dropping on the window ledge that easily could have been removed before hand and the windows them self had not been cleaned, dirty and mouldy.
Very unkempt and in need off a revamp was sobad we didn't even stay.
- John (6/5): - Location OK, breakfast OK. I specifically booked because I wanted an EV charger at the hotel. Whilst they are not responsible directly for the BP Pulse charger in their car park it is no real consolation when it doesn't work requiring a trip elsewhere to get a charge. Perhaps they should invest in some fast chargers (or even just outside plug points) to provide more reliable charging.
- Stephen (9/5): Had a great stay recommended would definitely stay again - Warm friendly atmosphere fantastic staff Stairs l am a little disabled
- watts (8/5): -
- petert7788 (9/5): very good -
- Samantha (9/5): Relaxing stopover on long journey! - Handy location for enroute stopover to break long journey north/south.
Lovely old building with character, relaxed interior, delicious vegetarian option for dinner and super helpful staff/service. Draughty window in room…. but it was a storm!
- DENISE (10/5): Lovely homey country inn with delightful staff and comfortable rooms with great dining! - I was traveling alone and stayed here while visiting my daughter and son-in-law who live 20 minutes away. The staff was wonderful and made me feel at home. They greeted me every time they saw me and were very personable. I had a cold and went up to my room every night with a lovely hot toddy. They asked how my day was when I would return and engaged me in conversation each time. They truly made me feel at home and I loved lingering over breakfast each day as it was so comfortable in the dining areas. Lovely, lovely people, each and every one of them. Hope to stay again the next time I visit from America I liked everything!
- David (8/5): Enjoyable and convenient. - Friendly welcoming staff. No negative feedback.
- Andrew (10/5): - Great place The staff are so pleasant
- Megan (8/5): Good but could be improved - Nice location and spacious rooms Wasn’t the most clean, rooms very outdated and damp on the ceiling
- Gill (10/5): It was comfortable and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. - It was nicely decorated with a very cozy feel to it.
- David (8/5): degelijk hotel - Heel vriendelijk personeel.
Mooie geriefelijke kamer
- Anil (7/5): -
- Peter (5/5): Pleasant staff disappointing otherwise. - The staff were pleasant and friendly.. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The public areas were not as clean as they could be. One of the dining areas had dead flowers on the tables for three days.. The bedroom was clean and comfortable but the bath was cracked..The Hotel requires refurbishment.
- James (9/5): -
- Nischal (8/5): - Friendly staff, clean, price was good, food was good Water is too hot even on low setting and very low water pressure.
- John (8/5): -
- Richard (8/5): Welcoming and comfortable stay - Great property, comfortable beds and super helpful staff (Arran). Lovely breakfast and great location. Just needs a spruce up. Wall paper needs renewing, no shower curtain in the family room but overall cosy and welcoming.
- Steven (10/5): -
- Stephen Price (9/5): - Good location friendly staff, very popular bar restaurant, busy for a Monday evening. Good sized parking. Shower was a bit weak and at the wrong end (the sloping end) of the bath. We dont like shower in bath.
- Chynoweth (5/5): Not quite as expected but the best possible staff and food. - The staff were top notch and were welcoming. Breakfast was very good. Bed was comfortable. We had a bath in the en-suite. The desert menus looked great and reasonably priced. No shortage of parking on site. The listing photo makes the hotel look like it is set back from any roads but it is right on a junction with heavy trucks both day and night. The car parking area to the right in the photos is over the main road. The old building is well maintained but only single glazed with limited window openings. Lots of stairs and steps on the landing making access a bit awkward. No air con. Rather a long way out from anything.
- Bert (9/5): -
- Egbert (9/5): -
- Joe (7/5): Good overall - Staff was great ! Felt the bed was dusty.
- Michaela (10/5): Excellent - Excellent location, Great price. Food, staff and rooms all amazing. Will definitely be back
- Silvio (9/5): -
- Judith (8/5): Ok for a one night stay - The staff were very friendly. The food/drink was quite good. The property overall is "tired". The room was pleasant but the bathroom was very damp and all windows need replacing.
- Yuriy (10/5): - We had a lovely stay. The food was delicious, and we loved the location
- John (6/5): -
- Michael (8/5): Prima hotel - Ruime schone kamer, prima bed en fatsoenlijk eten. Korte rit naar Edinburgh.
- Juan Carlos (10/5): - I absolutely loved my stay at Carfraemill, the staff was warm and very welcoming, specially Jacky was amazing, totally recommend this place and I will for sure coming back.
- Jack Paterson (8/5): -
- Bryan (10/5): - Everything,the room, the food,the staff.
Nothing was too much trouble.
We would go again.
- Martin (9/5): - Nettes, kleines Hotel direkt an der Straße. Ideal für Übernachtungen auf dem Weg. Check in sehr schnell und effizient. Nachtessen im Restaurant super. Freundliches Personal.
- Yong (8/5): - Location was good. The food was excellent. Shower head in the bathroom was broken, so the water flow was very small. Communication could be better.
- Shirley (9/5): -
- Hans (10/5): - Amabilité du personnel et du patron
Les repas étaient variés et très bons
Le petit déjeuner impeccable
Emplacement idéal RAS
- Susanne (9/5): - Very friendly staff
Nice Restaurant with good food Bring your one hairdryer… the one in the room very poor
- Helen (10/5): -
- Andrew (5/5): - The room was tired . The cold water from the taps was very milky. Room condition
- Peter (9/5): Great place for a stopover - Suited us to visit relatives We liked everything
- Jonathan (10/5): Exactly what we needed - Attentive staff (Jacqui) N/A
- Emma (9/5): -
- Kenneth Imrie (9/5): Very relaxing stay with fantastic staff - Everything. Staff fantastic and hotel brilliant Nothing
- jackie (9/5): - everything about our stay was very good ,the staff were exellent an old building that is showing its age but would stay again
- Irina (8/5): Fair but a bit old hotel with great breakfast - - Possibility to dinner and not to go elsewhere
- Great breakfast (the best one we had during our 10 days trip)
- Nice employees - Very dated rooms, the stairs of two levels kids bed fall down and hurt my son (luckily it was not very serious)
- Water pressure in the douche was very week, difficult to wash hair
- Seems to be a bit overpriced giving the conditions of the room (but the quality of breakfast with variety of choices of food and coffee kind of balances that :))
- Paul (6/5): -
- Amy (7/5): Satisfactory but needs a deep clean! - The staff were very welcoming and friendly. It was nice that it was dog friendly and the staff were very helpful offering water bowl etc for the dog when sitting in the dining area. The room was not very clean. Everything was very dusty, there was an empty juice can under the bed. The kettle was filthy and so was the tv remote. The room was very dated and old fashioned in decor. The shower was very low pressure and the only way to keep the bedroom window open was to lodge something in it so it didn’t close. We felt the price was quite high for the quality of the room and were disappointed by the cleanliness
- Debra (2/5): Staff lovely, location scenic, breakfast great. Room uncomfortable and very dingy, worn, dated and not the cleanest - Scenic location and friendly helpful staff Rooms very old and shabby, bed incredibly uncomfortable - literally one of worst hotel beds ever. The room was exceptionally hot - yes it was a very warm day but maybe fans could be an investment. Cleanliness not really great either. Feels like a upgrade of rooms really needed
- Lydie (9/5): - Tout. Très accueillant Rien continuez comme cela
- Annett (7/5): -
- Agnes (8/5): - Not very impressed with the breakfast, other than that it was a good one night stay.
- Hayley (10/5): Fab place! - It was a lovely place. Staff were fantastic, and the food was delicious - reasonably priced too! The room we stayed in was more than big enough, and we liked the separate bedroom for the kids and the bunk beds stopped them fighting! Haha. The decor in the room could have done with a little updating, but that's just my opinion.
- Margaret (9/5): - Gentleman who served us at breakfast was great fun .Room was comfortable good night's sleep. Room was dated unlike the main hotel but was clean and bright.
- Julia (8/5): Bucolic, a bit shabby, lacking plant content to meals. - Location is great, riding our motorbikes down from Scotland to London. Country views, birds, trees, sheep, very quiet and relaxing. Staff were friendly and professional. Room was comfortable if dated and shabby. Dining room was charming, the food/menu would be improved with vegetables and real ale. Nice outdoors seating. Lack of veg, no fruit for breakfast.
- Ramage (8/5): - Close to our job BED 2 SOFT
- Paul (8/5): -
- Jill (9/5): -
- Fiona (10/5): -
- Rob (9/5): Good location, facilities and friendly staff - Excellent breakfast, staff were very helpful and friendly - good atmosphere
- Nina (10/5): -
- Gordon (8/5): Great stopover - Pleasant atmosphere and surroundings Some road noise
- Alethea (8/5): Just what we needed for our stopover. - Excellent location for a stopover on the way further north. Both the evening meal and breakfast were very good. The room was comfortable and we slept well. Nothing
- Kelly (8/5): comfortable friendly yeah will use again - exactly what and how I wanted it spot on for me nowt nae to like
Chapeau!
- Jerry (8/5): - Hotel was clean, quiet and spacious family room, helpful that bunk beds were in a separate space to double bed. There needs to be a blind on the bunk bed sky light window, as in the summer too light to get to sleep and then awake early because of the light.
- Carl (7/5): - Location and easy to get around the local area , comfortable very nice staff Friday and Saturday morning Sunday morning staff where not hospitable at all and breakfast items where took away to soon ie :- cereals and drinks
- Jacqueline (9/5): - Easy to find, staff v helpful, can eat on site and food excellent Slight hum in the room but most people wouldn't notice
- David (9/5): Lovely place with excellent cooked breakfast and good choice of evening meal courses - Wonderful cooked breakfast, fish pie in the evening was excellent, nice sized bedroom with view of sheep in field, pleasant location. Comfy beds. Fruit was not always available at breakfast. Would have been nice to have had local beer on offer.
- GT (9/5): Comfortable room, friendly staff, superb food. - Excellent breakfast. We also had an evening meal in the restaurant. It was delicious, and excellent value for money.
- Lauren (8/5): -
- Mari-Louise (8/5): Feels like home - Breakfast and the warm welcome from staff Quality of the matress
- Parker (9/5): - Lovely location, very accomodating with the dog 🐕 who was spoilt. Lovely and friendly staff. Nothing not to like.
- Michael (3/5): -
- Renata (7/5): Gute Anbindung und toller Service - Personal sehr freundlich und aufmerksam
das Abendessen sehr lecker und empfehlenswert! Lärm von der Straße
Hellhörige Fenster und Türen
- Andrew (8/5): Clean , good food - Convenient Not en-suite
- Cathryn (6/5): Not happy the first night after that it was great - Breakfast was good No hot water the first night
- Ian (8/5): -
- Maiia (9/5): Characterful rural hotel in urgent need of some TLC - Carfraemill is a characterful rural hotel with great views and good parking. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the included breakfast is ample and tasty. Great value for money. Some aspects of the fabric of the hotel are in a sorry state of disrepair. The windows of our room and bathroom need urgent repair and repainting, and the bathroom ceiling paper was peeling off in places. The hot tap on the sink is loose.
- John (8/5): -
- Ernst (7/5): -
- Ed (8/5): -
- Keith (8/5): For the price every thing was well worth it I must add the staff were excellent - Breakfast was excellent Nothing comes to mind
- Sylvia (10/5): - The room was very clean and comfortable with a very good ensuite. The dinner was very good and, although breakfast was slightly haphazard , cooked items were very tasty. The hotel is a lovely base for local hillwalking. At breakfast there was no "breakfast bar" set out with choices of cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice etc but were available on request.
- McClory (8/5): - Nice small hotel in great location for visiting the Scottish Border region. Accommodation was good and food very good. Staff deserve top marks None
- Jordan (10/5): The best food I’ve had and breakfast is amazing! The staff are lovely and you are provided with everything you need for - The staff and food were absolutely amazing, the rooms were perfect and had everything you needed after being out all day. Parking wasn’t overly secure, but, was safe enough for the 2 nights we were there.
- Stuart (9/5): Good halfway stop for our journey to Scottish highlands - Breakfast excellent, room comfortable albeit a bit dated . Staff very welcoming and location excellent for anyone travelling to Edinburgh or beyond as we were. Heating a bit hit and miss
