Guest Reviews
- Trail41543397223 (2/5): Disgusting hotel - I have NEVER had a hotel experience like this. Photo on Expedia showed a lovely pool with the beach, with its umbrellas, in the background (1st picture submitted). After check-in, I quickly went out to check the beach. See the photos. That was bad enough. Someone said swimming wasn't allowed as well. Oh....I passed the pool on the way to the beach - that was cloudy (looked ok in the morning).
So, I'm already wondering what to do - I've booked for 7 nights! That evening, at 8pm, music started, really loud. After an hour or so, I went out to ask for it to be turned off/down but they weren't interested. Turns out, it goes on till midnight, 7 days a week. Spoke to manager, who was hiding, in the morning but all she was prepared to do was move me to a lesser room, at my expense. Cut a long story short, I checked out forfeiting the next 6 nights. No refunds, either from hotel or Expedia. Expedia eventually offered a 50 USD good will gesture. Ha ha. Still dealing with that.
Both bath towels had massive holes in them - never seen that before either. Breakfast and general service was disgraceful. Shame on this hotel - Vista Marina Hotel and Resort - and shame on Expedia for doing nothing. Offending photo is STILL on Expedia's website, despite how seriously they tell you they take complaints.
- WILFREDO T. (4/5): - Property needs updating. Corridor carpets needs cleaning musty smell. Restaurant needs cleaning. Restaurant staff were not ready to serve at 6am needed to request for service.
- Mark (4/5): - This property was probably good in its day but is now very dated. Not helped by being poorly maintained and dirty. Young staff try but it really needs a good manager who can direct the available resources to tidy the place up and provide something like good customer service. It is a 3 star hotel at best and the service is 2 star. It has a vermin problem as well. Our party saw two mice/small rats in the bedrooms. Breakfasts at weekends are an unimaginative smmall buffet. During the week ig is selection from a small menu. Meaming that a an adult gets the same size breakfast as a small child. Go somewhere else as this place will disappoint you.
- jommelmontales2022 (8/5): Not bad at all! - It seems we got a better room compared to other guests who had a bad experience at this hotel. We booked a weekend stay with breakfast at a reasonable price through Agoda. We chose a non-pool-view room with a balcony.
The hotel has outdoor parking, which felt safe. There’s no elevator, but our room was just on the second floor. The bed sheets, towels, and room were all clean. The hotel is ageing, which is especially noticeable in the bathroom, but they make up for it with generous toiletries. The hot water system worked perfectly—we love hot showers and never had any issues.
The internet was impressively reliable at over 100 Mbps, which was great for us since we work remotely and need fast internet. The minibar was also a plus, offering items at reasonable prices.
We didn’t get the chance to eat at the restaurant or have breakfast, and we also missed out on using the swimming pool. We woke up late, and by the time we were ready, the sun was already too bright and hot.
Compared to other reviews, I’d say we were lucky to get a good room (209). Yes, the hotel is ageing, but the price we paid reflected that. However, they should check their door locks—the doorknob on our room was slightly wobbly and felt unreliable.
Overall, this was a good choice, especially considering its convenient location near everything in the Freeport area.
- Mario (10/5): - It was overall nice good environment
- Greshmeister (2/5): Don't Bother Booking - When we entered the room it obviously hadn't been cleaned - there was dust and hair on the floor, something small and brown on the floor by the fridge, the fridge was leaking, and there were hairs in the bed. We asked housekeeping (who were still on the floor) to come and clean. We asked them to be truthful and tell us if the room had been cleaned - they replied it hadn't and the bed linen hadn't been changed.
The room itself was a good size but was old and probably hadn't been decorated since the hotel was built. The safe didn't work (we couldn't be bothered to tell reception). The bathroom was old and tatty, and like the rest of the room hadn't been cleaned. The towel had a brown stain, dried blood maybe.
The hotel has no elevator. The corridors were very dirty. Housekeeping said they don't have a vacuum cleaner, just a brush and mop.
The hotel windows hadn't been cleaned for ages.
The restaurant was a reasonable size but the cold drinks dispenser had bits of black stuff floating in it and was dirty as well. The staff said this came from the dispenser tap. It obviously wasn't cleaned daily.
We had another room for our family and that was just as dirty plus they had cockroaches and the kettle wasn't working. We'd asked for an additional bed when we booked but this hadn't been provided until we asked.
- George (2/5): - I 😠👎
- Connie (6/5): - Room is not clean and cockroach infestation. My child is terrified with cockroach running around across the room. Washroom is not the best. Overall the resort is not maintained and room needs some upgrade.
- David (4/5): - Very dated and lacking maintenance. Breakfast offering very limited and opening time fluctuated. Not a pleasent area to stay. Beach filfy. Very noisey till midnight with all the nearby outside entertainment.
- Larry (6/5): - Pros and cons.. Pros= Quiet, safe, walking distance to endless food options. Including a large mall.. spacious room with balcony.. Cons: 3 floors no elevator. Entire property needs to be renovated. To be fair, tourist foot traffic is way down.. Obviously revenue is needed for upgrades.. Hopefully that will happen for this resort..
- TravelWithMira (2/5): Do not Vista! - Towards the end of our Ilocos Norte tour we made a last stop at Subic and stayed at the Vista Marina Resort Hotel.
This is not a place you’d want to stay at, even for its price. The online photos are not accurate, do not be deceived as I was.
This is a picture of the door chain supposedly for additional security.
- Verified traveler (6/5): 5 Days in Subic - The decor of the room is old and worn. The hotel does not have an elevator. I will find a different hotel on my next visit.
- coco171277 (2/5): Old and moldy - We wanted to spend 2 nights for Christmas at the hotel. When entering the room on Dec. 24 I found the customer feedback survey of previous guests, dated Dec. 6. It had only one comment: too many cockroaches. And I can confirm that.
The bathroom is full of mold, especially the shower head. We were disgusted to shower there.
The bed sheets and blankets were stained.
It shouldn’t be expected for the price we paid, 207€ for 2 nights.
After one night we left and moved to another hotel.
- MARIA (4/5): - Stains on the floor and carpet, spiders in the bathroom, musty odor in the room, dark hallways
- rodf450 (8/5): Hotel room was clean, staff was friendly, location was perfect for us, and room rate was very good! - Really enjoyed our 5 day stay at Vista Marina. The pool was awesome and access to the beach was right in front of us for our daily beach walks. Room was clean, staff was friendly, location was perfect. Price was really good when compared to other local waterfront hotels. Free brkfst is hot and good, though brkfst options are limited. I will recommend this hotel to friends who are looking for a decent place to stay at a decent price.
- Maria Fernanda (2/5): Beware of mice - I had a bed and air conditioning. That’s all. The place is dirty, the condition of the rooms is in big need of maintenance and good management. I had mice in my room and I was lucky to get one trapped and removed. Cannot say the same for the others who kept eating whatever I had with me. There were animals stuck to the ceiling and had to ask many times to get them removed. The only good thing about the place is that it’s located in a gorgeous place and triathlon training here is a dream. I only chose this place because everything else was booked. Would I come back? No, if I have a choice.
- kevinhL1450QA (2/5): Terrible experience in very rundown resort - Place was filthy and run down outside gardens overgrown advertising buffet breakfast but don't have staff said it's scam worst accommodation I have ever experienced staff washing there hands in fishpond in reception area staff not helpful
- Serafin (10/5): - Close to everything, great location!
- Robert (8/5): - Easy to park, easy to walk to the beach, breakfast was excellent. Nearby shopping, restaurants, and coffee shops
- mercy (8/5): - Like it quiet, good view, the Staffs are very good and helpful. The only thing is, needs to upgrade everything its kind of old now.
- zalamanq (2/5): This hotel is a Scammer!!! - One of the worst hotels in Subic. The bathroom is full of cockroaches! No elevators, no staff to help us to carry our bags up to the third floor. It's past 10 in the evening and their live band is still noisy outside. When were about to check out, they charged for one missing towel and a flower vase. We arrived in the room with 3 towels only but housekeeping insisted that there were 4 towels. What are we going to do with that towel and it cost 500 pesos. They also would like to charge us with one missing flower vase. What in the earth are we going to do with that flower vase. We have photos and videos that prove that there's no flower vase in the center table when we arrived. So they agreed for us to pay the missing towel only but the hell. This hotel is a scammer. Please look for another hotel if you can.
- Colin (8/5): - The staff were very good and tried there hardest to make my stay a good one
- Christopher (2/5): - When I arrived at the hotel on July 12,2023. there was no front desk person to check me in but they did leave a note and a key. So I self checked in. Went to my room on the second floor and I was welcomed by couple of unwanted guest - cockroaches.
Room was spacious but very outdated, dirty, black mold and this weird green slime running out of the AC and down the wall. Bed was hard and pillow stink. Just a bad experience- but I’m there to scuba dive.
NOW, This is when it gets real - I stayed from July 12 and checked out early to go to a different hotel on July 18.
Between these date, they didn’t make or tear down the bed, no clean towels, no replenish water bottles and no toilet paper. After asking and calling numerous time - I final went to the convenient store and purchased toilet paper and water. Upon Checking out housekeeping went to check my room and he took a picture of 3 drops of coke on the sheets. The front desk said I had to pay 500 pesos for spilling coke in the sheets. I was like ummm ok but can I have the sheet? She said “No, we will wash the sheet and use them again” I was like sorry but not going to pay for this scam. I told them I had to buy my own toilet paper and water. I proceeded to say you didn’t bring me clean towels, replenish my water or change my bedding in 6 days after I ask numerous of times.

- Samuel (6/5): - Check-in was quick and efficient. Though I booked the room with my credit card, security deposit is only taken in CASH, no card. Checkout experience was negative, no front desk personnel till 7:00am. I had to checkout and leave early, but nobody was there.
- spirosv472 (2/5): I wouldn't stay there again even for free. - The whole hotel looked like it had seen better days in the past. The room was spacious but the cleaning was very questionable. The windows outside were filthy, like they had not been cleaned in ages. It's a pity because the location is great, but the management is bad. I didn't leave because I had already prepaid for my 2 day stay, upon checking in. The outdoor pool of good size, but very dirty, full of leaves, dust etc. My daughter that was traveling with me, refused to enter. The service of the personnel, including the reception staff, below any standards. This very bad choice of hotel, ruined my whole trip. And last but not least, the charge was 4,700 php per day for a double room with 2 beds, for 2 persons.
- VDCMa (2/5): One of the worst we stayed in the Philippines. - Very basic budget hotel. No maintenance, no security, no housekeeping. Very overrated by others who contributed their comments and ratings. Manager and owners should take a very close look at what they offer and how the today's services are conducted and seen by the customers. Resto was not available and we needed to take our bf in a very dirty "cocktail bar". BF was very basic and no refill of the coffee, but charged at extreme prices. Beach bar / resto music with band was so noisy till 1.30h that sleeping was not possible.
- Jocelyn (4/5): - Room 306 is a very disappointing room one can occupied. Phone has no dialtone so if youneed any servic, you hace to go down thru stairs since they also dont have elevator. Worst shower head ever. Lamp messes up. Will not stay anymore forever.
- jojoclp (10/5): great find - family - friendly, elegant, and safe place to stay in Subic. Clean and spacious rooms. Has a mini stop and Nataniel's nearby. Only issue is the high chlorine content of the pool. highly recommended if you are in town
- Al (10/5): - Nice hotel for the price. Rooms were clean, aircon worked, no problems at all.
- Thomas (4/5): - No ironing board/iron, washcloths. Room needed some light maintenance (outlet covers).
- Frank (2/5): - Dirtiest most unsecured hotel I've stayed at in years.
- ALMAMARIA H (4/5): - The property is dirty, as soon as walking to the 2nd floor and it is kind of hard to miss about the carpet being so disgusting. This is the first hotel that I have to pay an extra towel when needed.
- jasmins958 (2/5): MODUS AT THE MINI BAR - In the many travels I’ve been to & hotels I’ve stayed in, the first things I look for when checking in the room are the bed, the bathroom & the view. I was wrong. Now I know that checking the food at the mini bar should come first. Or you would be charged for it on your last day.
First time to encounter a hotel that does not have an extensive & proper housekeeping check before the next guest checks in. To our surprise, the can of Pringles & PicNic at the mini bar were already HALF-EATEN—and we only found out on our last day when we’re checking out!
My brother, who was in the same room as I did, were checking out the food at the mini bar when we were fixing our things on our last day. He told me the can of PicNic was already eaten but it still had its lid on including the paper cover beneath the lid. No one would suspect anything about it. I told him not to go about it and that we might be suspected of eating it.
I was not surprised when the front desk rep informed me about it when we were checking out. “Ma’am, nagalaw daw po yung PicNic at Pringles sa room 210 (Ma’am, the can of PicNic & Pringles was consumed at room 210),” she said. I was confident to tell her what happened–how my brother accidentally knew about it–because we have nothing to hide. Of course, it wasn’t us. I even explained that we bought our own can of Pringles & PicNic the day before. “You can check our trash can, we had consumed cans of Pringles & PicNic, that we bought outside,” I said.
She later called on a housekeeping staff. Without me saying a word, the housekeeping staff began telling how it wasn’t their fault. She told me the housekeeping “checks” every room first and makes sure everything is in place before another guest comes in. I just reiterared what I’ve already explained to the front desk rep—it wasn’t us. Why would we eat the overly priced food items in the mini bar when we had our own? I was just confused at that point.
Before we even dig deeper to what really happened, my father agreed to pay the amount of the “consumed” items just so we could head out already. They were lucky my father was kind enough to intervene & end the conversation but if I had it my way, I would stay as long as it takes to get to the bottom of it. It was not about the money. Heck, it was a measely 270pesos, when I paid for almost 10k for our family’s one-night stay.
What did not sit well with me was how the front desk representative handled the situation. They just let it be, no apology, just a polite “thank you” when she handed me my change from paying the half-eaten mini bar food items. It’s as if they simply do not care. That’s how they made us feel. That left a bad taste on our over-all stay because that was our last interaction with them. We were their guests and no, I don’t agree with the notion that the “customers are always right”. It should be the “customer’s satisfaction should be the top priority.” And they didn’t do anything because of course, we’ve already paid. It’s convenient FOR THEM, not US.
What I’m more concerned now is how often does that happen? Where we the first guests to have experienced being charged with half-eaten food items that we didn’t consume? Or is this a habitual practice, a “modus” of some sort?
It’s a such shame because my family, including my dad who just celebrated his birthday on our weekend stay, enjoyed our over-all experience—until that incident happened. They did not only lose a what would have been a repeat customer, but they’ll also lose potential ones because I’ll make sure to share this story as a warning.
- Hilda (4/5): - The staff and the pool were ok. The location is also nice. The rooms we booked were spacious enough. However, one of the things we look forward to when checking-in to hotels is sleeping on relaxing hotel beds, but the beds here are really bad. There was no more cushion and you can already feel the springs of the mattress. It was not a relaxing sleep at all. The hallway carpets were really dirty, as if they have not been vacuumed nor shampooed in years. Will definitely not book here again.
- doctorfoxtrot (6/5): Business is Good for a Reason - Booked 3 rooms on a weekend stay. One is a suite that they said they upgraded. They have a nice pool , amidst an expansive beachfront marina. Rooms are outdated. Air conditioning comfort poses a challenge . Tv channels just average. Bathroom has a shower in a tub. But they have bidet spray available. Breakfast was buffet , somewhat managed , but dining guests seem to get food not wearing masks or some sort of protection. This 3 story hotel doesn’t have any elevator. Ironically, the neighbouring Lighthouse Marina has one , but it is not working the past 4 months. Apparently, the pandemic has really affected things.
Lastly, upon checkout, little did I realise that we were booked or placed in a floor with guests undergoing mandatory quarantine. I know , they placed white mono block chairs behind each room to place stuff , and with Red Cross notifications. Even confronted front desk , and they hesitantly confirmed it . Business must be indeed good , they used it as a mixed type hotel without notifying leisure guests what really is going on. Sounds selfish , it seems.
- gelyndee (2/5): Reservations, Front Dest and Customer Service are Trash - No one's even bothering to answer the email or phone calls with regards to your reservation! I asked for the menu prior check in time so that we could atleast pre order and check if there’s any food on their menu that we allergic with as we have kids but THEY JUST DON’T GIVE A SH
- shamirakmad (6/5): Just okay - The scenery is quite relaxing. An overlooking beach would greet you in the morning.
My arrival was not that pleasant. I was greeted with an unwanted smell at the reception.
Elevator. Hard for those who has lots of baggages as I have not seen one during my stay here. You have to carry all your things using the stairs.
Housekeeping, not so great. I had to constantly call them for missed requests. Which is sad. Room is big but not so clean, this may be because of the vintage setup of the whole room. The Comfort Room, ugh, has cockroaches.
But to be fair, the food is just as good. I'll give them a thumbs up for that.
Overall, I would not say that I was totally happy but at least it was enough to get me through my appointments at the time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - t'was nice to stay here. Very accomodating staff and food was great!
- Verified traveler (4/5): No sleep hotel - Exit door is broken and would slam and wake us up. Janitor buffing the carpet at 2am. Didn’t get much sleep.
- Condise (8/5): Nice Old Hotel - Nice old hotel. Location is great to celebrate New Year's Eve. Bed however is not soft, there were dusts and glass doors not well maintained. Not advisable to elderlies and persons with difficulty in using stairs. Hotel staff are great especially Joem. We will be back again.
- Sylvia (8/5): - Its a great place to stay. Staff are great. Food is awesome!
- Darion (8/5): - Nice old hotel. No elevator hence not advisable to elderlies or persons with difficulty of using stairs. Staff are great especially Joem, Front Office Staff. We will surely stay again next year.
- Kat (6/5): - Hindi pwede magamit ang dagat, swiming pool lang.
For water sports lang yung dagat.
- joseph (10/5): Beautiful Resort - We had a wonderful time and look forward to returning soon!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Homey feel during the stay.
- NY (10/5): - Clean, safe property next to beach with outdoor pool. Friendly staff, good size rooms.
- mommytraveler823 (2/5): Worst! Worst! Worst! - This is the worst hotel ever in Subic. No parking. Had to park our vehicle at the side of the road. Upon entering our room we were greeted by 2 cackroaches, moth larvae and it's mother. Bed are so hard, you can feel the spring. The pillows are so old, the bedsheets and the blankets too. The bathroom is the worst, Old and dirty. The shower was warm but it's only a drizzle. The room is so dusty. We'll never go back to this hotel....this hotel does not deserve a high rating.
- Gary (4/5): - The staff was nice and helpful, the price for the room was very reasonable.
The room was dirty when we checked in and had to call maid service. We had to go into the hallway to to receive full Wi-Fi. Restaurant service was very slow. The television picture was grainy with very few choices for viewing.
- alexisdM3228DZ (10/5): Experience - Vista maraina is nice hotel and the food is delicious especially the sisig and the facilities is nice and clean and the cascade bar have a good band in the evening . I recommend this hotel for everyone
- AikaTupas (10/5): A MUST VISIT HOTEL 😍 - Great hotel. Great staff. Great everything. All the staff are very hospitable and accommodating. They are willing to help in any way they can especially the housekeeping department. They always greet everyone with a welcoming smile. Seeing everyone walking with smiles on their faces gives me and my friends big smiles as well even when we're already tired of the day. It has it's own restaurant and the foods are so satisfying. The rooms are very comfortable. The views are fascinating. The swimming pool area is a great place to relax. Another way to relax and unwind is to walk on the beach side and catch the sunset. I can see that this is also a family friendly hotel. Would like to visit again but on that next time, I would love to be with my family. I would like to thank everyone for giving me and my friends a wonderful and memorable experience. Good job everyone. Keep up the good work 👏🤗💕
- jomarlucban (10/5): Great Stay - I went to this place with my friends and we were not disappointed. the food was delicious and thay have facilities that will make you enjoy your stay and amenities that suits to your personal needs.staff are very hospitable and friendly especially the housekeeping department.I can recommend the hotel to my family and other friends.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice location and affordable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The resort is near to everything. Excellent service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to every thing and quiet for holiday love the food and the staff
- Samuel (6/5): Good hotel but bafly needs a renovation. - Pro the room was big enough ,tv qnd aircon perfect.the hot shower and flow of water is pretty good. Wifi is also good. The pool is clean.
Cons are the breakfast is not i would expect for the price they charge , i mean come on you can offer better tasting breakfast. The doors of the room , hallway and CR and the tiles cabinets can really need an uplift it seems old and has served it purpose maybe change it for a new look .by the way maybe put a gym in the hotel
- maven (10/5): The best - Very good service and the place is quite relaxing.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location is very nice because it is right on the beach and close to everything. The hotel itself is nice, but the room furnishings are very dated. I tried to get online but the WiFi was terrible or non existent. I will stay there again, but will plan on not having internet access.
- Marrianne (10/5): - Nice Hotel good location breakfast is great too. Beach front is great for walking.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel needs renovation. The location is not so good. Staff are good
- William (8/5): - Great trip.
- Martin (10/5): Nice hotel right the beach with nice pool - We spent a weekend there with extended family and everyone had a good time. They have a very nice outdoor pool and the staff were very accomodating in putting up chairs and tables for us right by the poolside bring out food and drinks. The rooms are comfortable and some have a very nice view. The hotel is close to the beach, which is very nice for a stroll, but unfortunately the beach is quite dirty and not suitable for swimming. There is a beach promenade which connects to other hotels and outdoor food and entertainment venues.
- chris (10/5): Good hotel , great food - Hotel room I stayed in was basic clean only downside was the bed could’ve been more comfortable , the pool was excellent clean and close to the beach, the restaurant food was excellent
- Donald (8/5): Great views - Really liked the night lounge! Great atmosphere!
- Gazza (6/5): Fine but basic - The hotel is fine for a short stay but the rooms are rather basic.
- Markus (8/5): Nice hotel close to beach - Room was very spacious with comfortable beds nice bathroom and a large patio area on the balcony which I enjoyed whilst having my evening tipple with my girlfriend watching the people go by. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the club sandwich was awesome and priced very reasonable. The pool area was great and we enjoyed the best part of our stay there and we were even allowed to stay a few extra hours by the pool after checkout
I would come here again for sure
- CHARLES (2/5): Never Again - This place is the very worst place i have ever stayed, no A/C dirty unfriendly, not maintained, the pool and beach sand was covered trash. the bathroom was dirty and moldy. the owner has given up on this place
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly staff
- Clare (10/5): Amazing hotel - It's great for swimming &. Nice restaurant
- C. Richard (10/5): Best valued room and cooks along this row of hotel - Best chef (named Randy) in SUBIC Area... ..crystal clean pool...room size/king size bed for a super value...everyone smiles from macho doorman...to nice waitresses....nice Tv and wifi package..3 days of relaxed bliss. Hotel MGR is a bit of a fool...but everyone else makes up for him. ~ Bodyguard Inc.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - the hotel is great but it is thumbs down in terms of room comfort because of terrible condition of aircon in our room. They fixed it and make it a little bit colder but still not comfortable
- George (6/5): An average hotel - The size of the rooms were nice and the balcony was also nice. However, there is not enough parking and you had to park on the street.
