Guest Reviews
- christopher (5/5): -
- Harry (10/5): Great - Great room, great facilities and great food, the bar is special and the staff were excellent.
- Pierre (9/5): A recommander - Super accueil … par la propriétaire …top.
Restauration authentique ..maison à recommander
Confort dés chambres chambres ..parfait Ne changer rien …
- Jean (8/5): Lovely tranquil hotel. Really comfortable even with fantastic gale and rain outside!! - Standard continental breakfast for me. Those who had cooked breakfast enjoyed it. Dinner previous night was excellent
- David (2/5): - Staff on the desk great however room very dated only 1 pillow hotel facility nice shower poor room cold and we eat at the restaurant and since eating there have felt very unwell
- Branigan (7/5): Beautiful old building. - Beautiful building and beautiful furnishings.
Relaxing atmosphere Breakfast wasn't great for a 4 star. Continental was very limited. Hotel was practically empty and they gave us a view of the car park.
- Ruth (8/5): -
- Chris (3/5): -
- Donoghue (8/5): A nice quiet stay - The staff were excellent. The food was very good although did not appreciate having to pay extra for potatoes and veg. Expensive. Having to pay extra for potatoes and veg. Expensive for 2 scopes of ice cream. Being on the top floor when the hotel was not busy
- Jason (9/5): quiet and nice - The rooms and facilities were very nice and clean, a nice comfortable bed and great breakfast The is no night porter so a member of staff had to wait around on the evening to let us in, we were at a wedding reception and we felt we had to leave early to be back to the hotel, the hotel should consider giving out a key or having a late shift, this did impact on us and we had to leave the wedding early to get in the hotel.
- Adam (7/5): Good -
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (4/5): Disappointing -
- Stan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (4/5): Altogether very disappointed, I expected a luxurious stay in the depth of winter at that price. - The evening meals were good, if somewhat over priced.
The sauna was good. The breakfast was poor, no porridge no fresh fruit and on two of my three mornings, no cooked food at all, just a spartan continental breakfast in the middle of winter! The hotel said they had no cook those mornings........................this is a 4 star hotel where even with genius discount and single occupancy I was paying almost £150 a night for B&B...with very little breakfast.
The rooms were not serviced, beds not made, no replacement towels issued. Th shower took a long time to warm up the place was not cold but not over warm either; there was a fire but they lit it only on one of three nights.
- Barbara (3/5): Dinner and the staff was the best part of our stay - The dinner was great and the staff were lovely Room was small and very overpriced and the bed was uncomfortable
- James (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent
- David (10/5): Outstanding service and an amazing chef - The hotel is easy to find, the staff were all exceptional, the evening meal was ordered and delivered on time and was amazing. Every thing about my stay exceeded my expectations. I could not fault any aspect of my stay
- Genevieve (6/5): Pretty on the outside, but needs a bit more love on the inside - The old building, from the outside looked great. The town it is located in is small but very pretty. The lack of hot water and very low pressure. There was a note in the bathroom to that effect, saying they are in the process of changing their water systems. I wish I had know before booking this hotel.
- Simon (9/5): Superb -
- David (7/5): Lovely location and service, small room. - Closeness to the golf course. I had expected the room to be a lot bigger than it was.
- John (7/5): Pleasant peaceful location, excellent staff - Lovely peaceful location in quiet village
Staff extremely friendly and helpful Comfortable room, if a little on the small side, ensuite very small
- Melanie (9/5): Superb -
- Ewan (9/5): Great choice for romantic get away of short stop off with family - Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff, good food. Lots of character in modernised original building. Pool and spa a bonus Only down side of whole stay was the water pressure in the shower, which the hotel acknowledged was work in progress
- Linda (8/5): Quite luxurious - Location and facilities were excellent. Dinner was lovely but breakfast was disappointing as it was over cooked. Appeared to be problems with water which they apologised for.
- Sharnna (7/5): Good - Very friendly staff, good breakfast, well kept hotel, dog friendly Really uncomfortable pillows, light didn’t work in the room, limited towels provided. Dinner was really nice but really overpriced.
- Ronnie (9/5): Superb -
- Duncan (9/5): + - Great pool. A treat being able to play on the full sized snooker table. The evening meal we had in house was first class and really good value. Not into cats but wouldn't mark it down on my own preference for dogs.
- Cherrie (8/5): Owner/hostess a real people person who made so feel instantly welcomed and relaxed. -
- Jamie (8/5): Wish I had asked for her name - Hotel was beautiful. All the staff was great. With the exception of the manager/ owner. I was on a backpacking trip, so traveling with a backpack. I have booked the deluxe suite and a woman came running after me in the hall and told me not put my back pack against “her wallpaper”. She went on to follow me and quote the price of the wall paper. I thought this was uncalled for and just because I had a backpack. Does she do this to every guest that stays in these room? Wish I had asked for her name. Need better water pressure
- Bill (10/5): room clean and comfy - staff and room
- Scott (8/5): The hotel property is beautiful and we had a very enjoyable with friendly & helpful staff. - Staff and owner were very friendly, helpful, attentive and kind. Special shoutout to Alison who gave us great tips on local activities. We had booked the afternoon tea which was amazing. Dining was delicious and enjoyed taking our drinks upstairs to play snooker. Housekeeping were a bit too keen in the morning we were due to leave. Tapped the door and entered at same time. Thankfully we were dressed! We would have liked to use the room’s big bath but property was undergoing renovation so couldn’t use it.
- Johnston (4/5): Disappointing -
- Fiona (3/5): Poor -
- Beckett (8/5): Lovely comfortable stay - I loved the personal and adaptable touch from the team. It was a quiet period for the hotel and I sat in the lounge before dinner where the lady in charge put the fire on just for me and made me feel really comfortable and well looked after. I even had my dinner next to the fire rather than sitting alone in the dining room, it was a very lovely touch and one I will always remember. Thank you.
- Nick (8/5): Very good - A perfectly acceptable dinner, breakfast, and room. Very obliging staff generally, and they were more than helpful in sorting out a better room for access by our elderly dog (initially we were on the second floor)
The bar lady/waitress was excellent as well A moment of rudeness from one particular member of staff was a slight blip, but we were prepared to overlook that, as the rest of the stay was good
- Diane (9/5): Superb - Fantastic food, friendly staff, a lovely room and even a full sized snooker table. What more could you ask for 😄 Low water pressure in shower, but this is being changed as we speak.
- Peter (5/5): Friendly staff but missing the attention to detail. - Friendly staff and lovely building Hot water issues so showering wasn’t an option on the top floor, room shouldn’t have been offered without instant hot water. No hand soap.
- Carol (8/5): Very good -
- Helen (9/5): Wonderful stay - Bedroom was wonderful. Lounge and bar areas also superb. Leisure facilities need attention but I'm sure the new owner has it in hand.
- David (10/5): All good and will return in the future - Dinner in the restaurant at night was superb , starter , main course and desert were all divine , breakfast was also very good quality , a lot of effort obviously goes into food prep and presentation and it shows .
Bedroom was very comfortable and recently refurbished , carpeting all around the interior appeared to be in as new condition and everywhere was nice and clean
- Emma (8/5): Very good -
- O (7/5): Good -
- Wendy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Sonia (9/5): Great hotel, good food, friendly staff, beautiful area to explore - Lovely decor, comfortable, country luxury
- Laura (9/5): Superb -
- Mcdade (7/5): Nice family run hotel but needs a bit of work in areas .Breakfast was nice but maybe a choice of stuff other than a full - Lovely old hotel clean room although bathroom was very small for the price of room I expected a bit more .staff were lovely . The fitness area needs a bit of work pool was nice although very hot but changing area could easily and cheaply be made nicer .Fresh grout a bit of wet wall on the roof would make it feel much cleaner.
- Peter (7/5): Good -
- Jeremy (10/5): The hotel complemented an epic weekend. Owner and staff were so friendly and attentive. Coming back. - all meals delicious, whisky copious, proper bloody marys, bed comfortable TV was on a side wall when lying in bed - only a minor inconvenience
- Kathy (9/5): Traditional hotel. Nick who served us in the restaurant on our first night was excellent. - Nice hotel in lovely setting. Very quiet. Frustrating wifi. Variable and at times none.
- Anne (10/5): Our stay exceeded our expectations. - Welcoming, very clean, very friendly staff. Our room was newly decorated and it was beautiful.
We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. I would totally recommend this hotel. Cannot think of anything. Everything was perfect. I could not fault anything.
- Yakub (9/5): Superb - excellent location place it self very impressive
- Michael (6/5): Everything seemed to be about maximizing profit - Food was excellent as were the staff. The room was on the small side for the price.
- Malcolm (10/5): Extremely welcoming staff and food is fabulous - Such a lovely country house hotel in a great location. Playing in golf competition and the course is at the bottom of the garden
- Emma (8/5): Really nice atmosphere and comfortable mattress - Lovely staff. Big bar and restaurant. Great food. Hot duvet
- Benjamin (9/5): Superb -
- George (7/5): Good - Very close to the golf course. The bathroom was far too small. The sooner the water pressure issue is resolved the better.
- Denis (7/5): It was a very pleasant hotel and the staff were excellent but the price is too high at the moment. Once the new owner ge - Excellent location and staff. Room was great except the bathroom- see below.. Food superb. Whisky bar incredible. If you are playing Edzell there is no more convenient location. There is even a bridge between the hotel and first tee only 200yards away... Plumbing - too low water pressure (top floor) , bathroom awkward( big drop from shower to floor) and loo inadequate.
- Carol (3/5): Very disappointed in the room…small, dated and no storage -
- Babs (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matt (5/5): Ok stay. Friendly staff cold shower. - The staff were very friendly and chatty. The room was ok and the food was nice. There was no hot water for my shower. On the night I had nothing so I mentioned it and there were steps i es stood to take to make sure I got hot water. So I tried again in the morning but to no avail. I could get hot water to the taps which resulted in me having a stand up wash at the sink and a very quick freezing shower to wash my hair etc. I spoke to management about this and they stated that they didn’t get one either…. there was also large party in meaning I waited around 45 minutes for my food. The continental side of breakfast was also very basic.
- Robert (2/5): Very poor - Nice location Bad shower. Dogs and Cats, my wife is allergic. Overpriced for this facility.
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Suzanne (4/5): Disappointing -
- Anonymous (10/5): A perfect stay and exceptional experience. Highly recommended!. - The food, the comfortable bed, the whiskey bar, the sitting room with a cosy fire, the history and uniqueness of the hotel, everything was superb. The best part was the genuine welcome, friendliness and support provided by Ritu and staff throughout our stay. They went out of there way to ensure we had the best time. What a pleasant experience! Nothing, our stay was perfect from arrival to departure
- Strachan (5/5): Disappointing - Room, lounges, environment Prices of drinks, prices of food
- Maureen (10/5): Very friendly helpful staff. Great food in lovely restaurant and bar facilities. - Lovely sympathetic, stylish renovations. Convenient location.
- John (10/5): Amazing comfortable bed very enjoyable hotel - Amazing host brilliant place
- Henderson (8/5): Friendly place - The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. I found the hotel a little chilly.
- Karyn (6/5): Pleasant -
- Stuart (9/5): Superb -
- Shawn (8/5): Very good -
- Spicer (8/5): Very good -
- Antonia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Marie (4/5): Recent stay at Glenesk - Very disappointing - The location Breakfast portion sizes definately not adult size & you didn't get what you asked for & also not a proper continental breakfast. Hot water situation not good - struggled to get a hot shower. Owner too in your face wanting to know your personal business
- David (7/5): Good -
- Chris (8/5): absolutely beautiful. - The staff were so welcoming warm and friendly, the hotel was beautiful and food was superb. definitely would stay again. the only downside was the water pressure, but that is being sorted soon. so no problems really.
- Marjory (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely loved our stay here from start to finish. Hotel owner was very friendly and couldn’t do enough to make sure we enjoyed our stay
- Giovanni (10/5): excellent stay - Excellent breakfast, very friendly staff, good beds, 800! whiskies in the bar, excellent golf courses nearby, sunny weather... a bit noisy...neighbours slamming the door of thier room at 06.30 a.m. on Sunday
- Mabon (6/5): Pleasant - Situation ,staff
- Janet (9/5): Superb -
- Mike (10/5): Wonderful - Having the opportunity to chat with the owner and getting our own private whiskey tasting.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abraham (10/5): Exceptional -
- Irene (10/5): Relaxed stay with friendly efficient staff - Great choice of well cooked food and efficient service No complaints
- Amber (8/5): Lovely quiet village with very accommodating staff and excellent food! - Dinner and the food was fantastic! The staff were extremely accommodating and friendly, an excellent bar and sauna was fantastic, lovely garden area and it's beautiful with the renovations that have taken place. The bed was extremely comfy and a very quiet village. Dinner service was a little slow but was just down to short staff and lack of knowledge from our waiter which wasn't anyones fault. The bathroom in our bedroom was borderline a cupboard but when speaking to the owner they stated that the room we stayed in hadn't been renovated yet. My partner and I also agreed that the price of the room we stayed in was overpriced due to the size of it. Despite the minuscule inconveniences, we would return.
- Katherine (10/5): Beautiful hotel in stunning location, great golf and food, lovely helpful staff, a very special place in Angus! - The hotel has outstanding facilities with excellent golf on the doorstep, a swimming pool, small
gym, a lovely well tended garden for sitting out in a summer evening. The dining room has great food,
the hotel is beautifully decorated, bedrooms spacious and so comfortable. The staff were wonderful,
very hospitable and helpful, especially Ritu who looked after everyone with a very warm welcome.
It’s a great location, near Glamis castle, Glen Clova and the wonderful beach at Montrose, on the railway line
from London.
- Jen (10/5): great hotel, great staff and great stay! would definitely return and recommend - the hotel was clean and the staff were exceptionally welcoming, friendly and helpful.
the rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable
- Downie (9/5): Superb -
- Margaret (9/5): We will be back! - Lovely attention to detail. Although we had a small room (only one left) it was very comfortable.
Food was excellent, with a nice selection of choices. Bar offering was exceptional!
Pool, steam room etc all good.
- Gordon (8/5): Lovely people -
