- Joanna (10/5): Amazing! - I was quite sceptical after reading the reviews, but oh my dear, what a lovely place! We were located in villa number 3, and nothing will ever beat the view. Absolutely stunning location. The villa itself was very charming, enormous so we really had plenty of room, the glassed terrace was lovely. The house was really clean and had everything we needed. The furnishings is a bit outdated but it gives this cosy vibe and has its charm. Beds were comfortable, each bedroom has its own bathroom which was amazing. Swimming pool was clean and water warm enough. There is also a playground for children and pools next to the bar. I honestly really recommend this place. Lovely wee village in stunning location. We will definitely come back! The only thing we didn't like was the service we received from receptionist on the arrival (17th of May). She was not polite nor helpful. The next day there were different ladies and they were lovely and kind, so it was just one off situation.

Can't fault the size throughout There was dirt and dust in the twin bed room in which my daughter found when sorting the bed. The drawer that is under oven when opened was full of crumbs along top and also in the drawer

- Ronald (3/5): Sadly becoming run down - Aviemore is a fabulous area, but we found that all of the activities have become very expensive. The Dalfaber resort is showing its age. We were once timeshare owners at Dalfaber, sadly the facilities are being run down. The pool requires attention. They have a filter on the pool floor that catches your toe as you walk past. The jacuzzi wasn't working and sadly the sports hall doesn't appear to have been maintained, the sports surface being riddled with holes held together with gaffer tape. The 9 hole golf course was once a jewel in the crown of the resort. Sadly now it has the appearance of a dog walking field. Our accommodation was fine, but one of our lodges had a leaking conservatory roof.

We stayed in the Topsider and it was amazingly quiet with great views and generously spaced. The resort itself is only a short cycle from the train station and conveniently located for adventures around Aviemore

The leisure facilities are tired and the new charging policy for using anything other than the swimming pool or the gym feels excessive. £12 to borrow tennis racquets or £8 for table tennis. Despite the website (apparently out of date according to the reception) saying all leisure facilities are complimentary for all guests. Fine if it was state of the art facilities but they are very tired and understandably underused now. Pool closed all day one day because of a chlorine problem but no one told us we could use the pool at the Aviemore hotel because of this. We were just told the resort pool was closed when we turned up to use it.

The male reception staff member was a credit to the company We have stayed here a number of times over the years but it was our first time in a chalet for 8 years, they were run down and dirty, badly need investment. Female receptionist was rude and abrupt. Cleanliness was terrible

- Donald (10/5): - Fantastic few days we'll worth the money for what u get now I have stayed at the other Macdonald resort also and multiple log cabins and hotels in aviemore over the years yes the big private log cabins is great but this for resort with everything was good staff was what made it better how kid friendly it was and when restaurant was fill the just give menus so u could order from bar area ice cream drinks food will difnetly book again and would recommend
- Lisa (8/5): Place and location were great - a little more flexibility in terms of rules would make it better - Property was very spacious and well equipped. The facilities were good but the staff/procedures were excessive. Having such strict rules about pool use, allocated times fair enough but the need to be in the pool by a certain time (noted only in small print on reception desk) left children disappointed. It's supposed to be relaxed as people are on holiday it felt heavy handed.
- Lorna (6/5): Not worth the money - Good location. Free use of swimming pool, gym etc. Chalet 20 very dated and not well kept. Very cold even with all heaters on as the window seals were all knackered, one window nearly fell out when we tried to pull in tighter shut. Carpets needed cleaning and things needed fixing. Not what we expected for the money we paid. Check in was only between 5-6pm. Used swimming pool once and so much chlorine we all ended up with a skin rash. Overall not what we expected for the amount it cost. Not usually one to complain as usually only in chalet to sleep and out and about rest of time but we were disappointed.

Cold on arrival but it did heat up within an hour but heating could have been on in advance. Generally a bit dated and refresh of bathroom and worn seats would be good.

The living area was nice but the double bed felt like a brick and I banged my arm several times during the night on built in cupboards. Both bedrooms and the bathroom need seriously updated and brought to modern times. Facilities such as the pool and the gym were a trek to get to unless I used the car.

- Sarah-Jane (7/5): Good but could be cleaner - Really good location for exploring aviemore and the surrounding area. Cabin was well equipped and spacious. Staff were very friendly and on hand for whatever we needed. Cabins are very dated and not particularly clean. We had a pile of cigarette butt's directly outside our cabin. The panelling inside the cabin was veru dusty and the bathroom was generally grubby. It felt like it had just been given a quick clean before we arrived without much attention to detail.

- Vikum (1/5): Really bad experience with staff and facilities. - Nothing. Only this locates very close our destination. Nothing else. After a long and tiring journey to reach this property, we were extremely disappointed to find there was no hot water due to a broken boiler. Despite reporting it immediately, we were told to wait until the next morning as maintenance was unavailable. The next day, we spoke to the receptionist again to ensure it would be fixed while we were out, but we returned in the evening to find the issue unresolved. We felt completely ignored and forgotten. The staff’s attitude was dismissive, stating it 'wasn't their problem' and offering no solutions until we forced the issue ourselves. We spent two days without being able to shower while paying full price for a 'relaxing' stay. Only after we suggested it did they eventually allow us into another unit just to wash. The lack of pre-arrival inspections and the poor customer service turned a family holiday into a stressful ordeal. I would not recommend staying here if you expect basic amenities or professional support.

The resort is incredibly well-equipped for families; we traveled as two families and found all the necessary amenities to cook our meals and live comfortably. The rooms provided a very restful and quiet night's sleep. What really stood out was the professionalism of the staff. On our final day, we unfortunately broke the microwave glass. We reported it to reception during checkout, and they were incredibly understanding and didn't charge us for the mishap. It’s rare to find such a customer-focused approach! Nothing to complain about! Because we had so many outdoor activities planned around Aviemore, we didn't get a chance to fully explore all the resort’s internal facilities, but everything we did use was excellent.

- Scott (9/5): Good stay and great location - Great location and price. Loved our chalet as it was cozy, comfy and spacious. Will be back Not much, sadly the pool was out of order but the sauna and steam room were nice and you can use a pool elsewhere in their group. If anything the fridge could have done with a clean as sticky stuff Inside but that is a very minor thing, as the rest of the place was clean 😁

- X7910RNcarlw (10/5): Relaxing Break - We’ve just arrived home after the most wonderful stay at Macdonald Spey Valley Resort and can’t recommend it highly enough. The accommodation offered stunning views over the river, making it the perfect setting for a relaxing break. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by a friendly and helpful team who provided plenty of useful information about the local area. We stayed in Topside 4, which was cosy, spotlessly clean, and incredibly spacious for the four of us. It had everything we needed for a comfortable self-catering stay, with all equipment thoughtfully provided. The on-site restaurant served an extensive menu of delicious dishes, including some lovely Scottish options that added a special local touch to our meals. Aviemore and the surrounding area are absolutely breathtaking. We would highly recommend the hilltop walk to visit the local reindeer herd at Cairngorm Reindeer Herd — a truly memorable experience. We had a fantastic stay and are already looking forward to returning!
