Guest Reviews
- Christopher (8/5): Abel's harp hotel review. - We arrived at 6pm and waited 10 minutes to check in. The room we reserved was unavailable. We drove for 20 minutes on single track to arrived from Shrewsbury. The breakfast was none existent.
The room was clean and tidy but the lighting was terrible. I think 6.0 rate is suitable.
- Andy (8/5): - Nice views from the chalet and hot tub
- David (4/5): - Booked this fairly last minute via a booking service so possibly missed some details about what the facilities actually are. The ‘huts’ are not en-suite and don’t have water - there was no way of filling the kettle. Staff don’t start until 10 so Communal area was not cleared after a wedding reception the night before and toilets were filthy (covered in vomit). The staff working on Saturday night were lovely.
- Rob (8/5): - Ok- good price / value. Nice bar and restaurant
- Neil (2/5): - No communication from the staff .. booking came with breakfast included .. asked when it was served .. only answer gotten was 10am .. wasn't told it pnlt consosted of croissants and toast and if you wanted a cooked breakfast you had to request it and pay more
- Carly (2/5): Don’t stay - I did not like where we stayed the bed was damp and it was very cold
We left a day early
- Barrymore (10/5): Saved our bacon! - This place saved us. Hadn’t realised that the Shrewsbury Food Festival was on this weekend so we seriously struggled to find a place for the night. This was our last bet and we were lucky.
- Verified traveler (6/5): partner kept harping on re how far away loos were - maybe not so good if you are older or don't mind getting up on the middle of the night to trek down the hill from the shed chalets to the main building to use the toilet facilities. Maybe some composting toilets at the top of the hill near the glamping rooms would be a good idea. \thee was a heater in the room but it didn't work - or we couldn't figure out how it worked - luckily it was still fairly warm for september. Was a little disapointed with the breakfast in a bag - not sure if this is the usual breakfast or if it was because there was a wedding on the next day. The views were lovely though :-)
- Stephen (10/5): Good value for money - Good value for money, Lovely bar and staff. My room was a bit dated and quirky but not an issue. Mattress could do with replacing.
- Melvyn (8/5): - Great
- Megan (8/5): quirky! - Personally I love the kitsch and quirky decor of this place, but it’s certainly not going to appeal to everyone.
I wish people would give them a break about the breakfast. A free breakfast does not automatically mean you’re getting a full English so don’t assume that. I was fine with a croissant (and vegan at that).
Customer service was fab.
Only slight downside is the walls are thin so we heard someone snoring in the middle of the night but that’s not really the venue’s fault someone is a loud snorer. I’d recommend based on the price overall.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cute and quirky, overall was a little lacking - Abel's Harp is a very lovely and quirky hotel set in some of the most beautiful countryside. Inside it presents a wonderful cute place to stay and on first sight you will gasp and coo at how lovely it feels. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the countryside is stunning.
Unfortunately the details are not quite as impressive and I was a little disappointed as my stay went on.
I found the bed in my room was on the tired side, it sagged in the middle quite badly, this was fine for me as I was on a solo trip. I would imagine a couple being more affected by this. The bathroom was clean though signs of wear were beginning to show, and the shower was beginning to whine loudly.
I ate at restaurant and the food was okay. There was plenty served to me it did however feel like it was all cooked from frozen and some a little bland. The mushrooms, salad and the chips were good though. Breakfast was the most disappointing, I gave it a pass as we have been in a global pandemic and some concessions need to be made.
I had a single croissant with butter and jam in a. paper bag to start my day. It was a bit of a joke considering you are in some of the most hardy walking country and the breakfast was not substantial enough to get you over the first hill!
Abel's Harp is a lovely place in a lovely part of the country, it has massive appeal as you walk in, and I hope that as the world returns to normal the experience will match that initial wow factor.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - If different quirky, v friendly to dogs and of course their owners
- Martin (8/5): Lovely but slow to book in guests. - Great quirky hotel, room not 100% clean though. When we arrived we were left sat at least ten mins waiting to book in while the receptionist was chin wagging in the bar.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The property looked great on arrival, but bizarrely it took some time for the manager (?) to realise that we wanted to check in! Both the quality and quantity of the food were incredibly disappointing given the price - I am not at all sure that the ‘chef’ had any experience whatsoever. They had clearly gone budget on the ingredients - the pink sausages devoid of any texture were a real lowlight. The breakfast “hamper” consisted of shop bought muffins/pastries and a carton of juice .. not quite the “fresh breakfast at your door” experience that was implied! The walls were paper thin so any noise (they insisted on playing music on speakers in the empty restaurant late into the evening) carried throughout the building. Staff were helpful, but they didn’t seem to have routines and systems in place, which left us feeling like they weren’t really sure what they were doing... there is potential to be a really unique hotel, but really need to sort the basics first (particularly food quality)!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great place - Expedia messed up. This place had no spare rooms. But they made room for me. Lovely place. And thank you.
- Anita (4/5): A stopover for a wedding party - The hotel was very strange. Probably classed as vintage. Very grubby. Breakfast tables were greasy An assortment of miss matched crockery and my cup handle was broken. There was plenty of food for breakfast but the 'full English' was greasy. There were slug tracks across the carpet in the lounge area and which required a good vacuum.
- Sam (4/5): Misleading advertisement for chalets. - Expedia advert displayed hotel room which we discovered was a chalet upon arrival. Chalet should be clearly labelled in the title with a relevant picture to accompany it.
- Richard (10/5): Great Value and wonderful hiking - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Set amid the beautiful Shropshire countryside, the hotel/guest house was perfect for local hiking. The manager and staff were both helpful and friendly. Our breafast was plentiful and well prepared. We also ate dinner there. All round good value!
- Sam (10/5): Amazing location superb views - Absolutely spotless, tastefully decorated full of little curiosities that you never tire of finding. Food delicious and nothing is too much trouble for the proprietor and staff. Thoroughly recommended and will be visiting again.
