Guest Reviews
- nobisan (8/5): Wir waren zufrieden.

- Daan (10/5): If you are reading this, you are already making a great decisions in considering visiting Tsuwano - If you are reading this, you are already making a great decisions in considering visiting Tsuwano. The Hotel was just as great as the town, an oasis to relax in. The meal, beds and bath were 10/10
- Randall (10/5): Best stay on my trip - I have no complaints about the property. It was the best ryokan I’ve stayed in so far on my trip in Japan, and at not a very expensive cost. Close enough to the train station. The Japanese breakfast was good. Good sushi restaurant across the street for dinner. Complementary coffee, tea, shochu, and whiskey were a nice touch. Best part was the helpfulness of the staff. If I had to complain about something, it would be that the onsen wasn’t very hot.
- Warren (8/5): Good location in a wonderful town. - Very good location for walking to most places in the town. Modern design of traditional approach. Small Onsen on the top floor was very pleasant including an outdoor section. Modern design lacking in warmth/cosiness.
Some staff were very helpful, but a few seemed ‘remote’.
- Hideo (9/5): -

- jong han (10/5): - all nothing
- Mark (7/5): Great location and pleasant onsen. - The onsen was great. The bathroom facilities ie the hand basin and toilet are very compact.

- Urszula (8/5): I like the stay and enjoyed it , but when it came to paying more for a tax I got furious. - i did not eat it too expensive to eat it
- Dirk (9/5): Best Place in Tsuwano - Excellent modern hotel in rather rural Tsuwano. We booked a large room which was commodious, but had no views from the "windows" at all. Great "outdoor" bathroom. Excellent custom-served breakfast. Check in a bit awkward. Automated, not sure why. No people here? Blocked window thing unsettling. A bit pricey for what its is.
- Tilak (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- ishihara (8/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Lovely hotel in a charming little town. - Fantastic hotel in a lovely little town. Both the hotel, and Tsuwano itself, exceeded all expectations.
I travel around slightly-off-the-beaten-track spots like this in Japan a lot and try to find charming little ryokans or minshukus that are value for money. Don't think I've ever found a better one than this.
From the entrance it is clear you're entering a place that's punching above its weight. It looks much nicer than you'd expect for the price. Turned up early and the friendly staff were more than happy to let me check in early and make use of the facilities which include a very nice little rooftop bath (rotenburo) and - remarkably - free drinks, including whiskey and shochu, in the little area on the ground floor from 5pm. The hotel place was spotless (it looks very new) and the Japanese-style breakfast was very nice indeed.
I'l definitely visit Tsuwano again one day, and I'll definitely stay here. I loved this place. Admittedly, staying in a Japanese-style room means taking out your own futon but that's par for the course. There was no shower in the room, but again, that's the name of the game. (I wouldn't let any of this stop you staying here. Lovely hotel.)
- Britney (10/5): Exceptional - Th sake dispenser
- Vincent (10/5): Great 3-star hotel with excellent facilities and rooftop onsen. - Great 3-star hotel with excellent facilities. Free coffee snacks and also scotch sochu & sake in the evening. Has it's own rooftop onsen.
- Paige (9/5): Superb -
- Gaku (8/5): Very good -
- Vida (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joshua (7/5): Nice but disorganized hotel. Great rooms, new feel, great tub in room that stayed warm w a door that opened to the outsi - Nice but disorganized. They don’t explain anywhere that you need to reserve meals a day in advance and there were several miscommunications including the belief I had been scheduled for 7:30 breakfast only to show up then not being able to accommodate me. Tsuwano is not flush w nice places to eat and many are closed. Fist place out of 20 that I stayed on this trip where I did not feel totally welcomed, and this in a town struggling for visitors!
- Judith (8/5): Very good - Staff were very friendly and the hotel has attractive decor and is in an excellent location about 10 minutes walk from the station. Our rooms were comfortable despite being small. Dinner was delicious. Dinner service was somewhat chaotic, with a long delay before drink orders were taken. The ordering of sake was very confusing to us, so we didn't bother. Check in and check out instructions and practices were needlessly complex.
- Buurstra (10/5): I can recommend it to anyone - Great breakfast great location
- Oana (9/5): Excellent place I highly recommend it - Great place perfect location staff very friendly and helpful and bonus speak English Didn’t have shower in the room
- Susanne (10/5): Exceptional - Walkable from Tsuwano station. The reception staff were very kind. As a solo traveller I prefer to get a plan with breakfast and dinner and I enjoyed the diverse and delicious meals at Yutorelo Tsuwano. Each meal has great variety and menus don't repeat from day to day so you get the opportunity to eat different food. I enjoyed the free tea, coffee, snack and drinks offered in the "cafe". As for sight-seeing in Tsuwano, the town presents the sites with a range of ukiyo-e pictures to show the historical landscapes and townscapes and we can see what remains today. A lot of the town is well preserved from the Edo period. Both the Inari shrine and the Tsuwano castle involves some hiking so the hotel's shared onsen bath is a treat to come back to after a day of exploring. If you are a day-tripper you can leave your luggage at the kind bike shop in front of the station and cover the town by pedal power. If you come on weekends you can catch the old steam train which runs from Tsuwano to Yamaguchi
- Shiu (6/5): A modern Onsen hotel but with some strange arrangements. - Onsen and food were good. Free coffee and alcohol Room was tiny.
Online pre-registration didn’t work so we didn’t have a chance to book our breakfast and dinner time. Only some odd slots left for us.
Parking was full when we arrived so we were directed to park at the back. The catch is we needed to move the car away before 10 am the next day.
Our bed was not set up on day 1 as I was told that we we were supposed to give instructions. Wish the hotel had told us such requirements when we checked in.
- Wu (8/5): Very good -
- John (8/5): Classy Hotel with Onsen. - Hotel is new and very classy. Great location near the train station, but everything is near in this small, beautiful , historic, and friendly town.
Our relatively inexpensive Queen room was unbelievably small. So small the bathroom only had a toilet and sink. No bath or shower. (We didn’t notice that “bath” or “shower” were not listed in the bathroom amenities!) If you want a bath, you can use the cleaning stations on the top floor onsen during their open hours. We compensated for the small size by expanding our concept of room to include the onsen and lobby, and it pretty much worked. Otherwise you can spring for the larger rooms which are quite a bit more expensive. No coffee in the room, but really good coffee available in the lobby most of the time. Hotel onsen was nice. Staff were very friendly. Not much English.
The hotel promotes local cultural activities such as town tours with high school students, and local products like sake, and some language exchange encounters.
Breakfasts and dinners were excellent, and included several courses. Well worth the expense. The staff may tell you there are very few places open for dinner in town, but that didn’t seem to be the case for us. Right across the street is an excellent okonamiyaki restaurant and a sushi restaurant with good salads and nabe. You must reserve brkfst and dinner in advance at the hotel, and at most places in town, it’s a good idea. Some close during the week and fill on weekends. Lawsons convenience store will come in handy if you have trouble.
Be sure to visit the Taikodani Inari Shrine! We would stay there again.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (1/5): Frustrated had to pay a lot to get a room with a shower! I showed the advert he still refused. Crooks conmen and liars - Nice location Building site next door working to 9 pm start at 8!!!!
No shower or bath!!!! Sneaky sly company list all normal facilities but you need a suite to get a shower or bath!!! Rip off bunch of liars running this place avoid at all costs!
- Victor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Victor (10/5): Exceptional -
