Overall, this is an authentic Japanese Ryokan and the whole experience was very beautifully Japanese. The food was very traditional, as was the service and the rooms. We loved the onsen. - Leigh (10/5): A most memorable experience - An older style hotel offering fabulous traditional service from every staff member. There seemed to be almost one staff for every guest. We opted for the breakfast and dinner options. The many courses involved with each meal were all beautifully prepared, presented and served. Our room on 4th floor offered the most magnificent view over the bay and pine covered small islands. Not a thing, although at our age a futon on the floor is a challenge and a giggle.

- Yuan Jun (10/5): Exceptional experience in Matsushima - Wonderfully attentive staff, smooth check-in. The view from the room was like a framed picture of Matsushima Bay. Two public onsens in-house (and private ones that can be hired) with exceptional views - you definitely need to experience the sunrise from the onsen. Breathtaking. Package came with dinner and breakfast - Japanese course came with so many dishes, you'll always leave full. Pricey but absolutely worth every bit. Can't fault anything. Staff English is limited but they try their best, there are translations for all the important bits and everything worked out with a bit of passion communication.

But it is made with care and attention. The outdoor onsen has wonderful views, as does the private onsen. The whole hotel has old-world charm.

Funcionários prestativos e gentis mas com alguma dificuldade com a língua inglesa. Onsen muito agradável. Hotel bonito e muito bem decorado. Jantar (fizemos meia-pensão) delicioso - o melhor da cultura gastronómica japonesa, seja no sabor, seja na apresentação. O quarto era absolutamente minúsculo, quase claustrofóbico. O que compensou um pouco foi a grande janela com a vista para a baía de Matsushima, que é belíssima. O café da manhã era exclusivamente no estilo oriental, poderia haver algumas opções para quem não se adapta a este modelo. Acabamos por tomar café na rua todos os dias.

- Alan (10/5): An onsen worth a visit longer than one night. - Dinner and breakfast are amazing. Excellent beverages and spirits. Views of the islands and water from huge panoramic windows. Very good en-suite tub, plenty of hot water. Thoughtfully curated toiletries. Hotel is clean, smells fresh, bedding is deluxe. Dining hall ( downstairs) for breakfast is a beautiful hall and breakfast is an excellent start for the day. Hotel staff is polite and attentive. We felt appreciated and would enjoy a longer stay - one night is not enough time. Not staying longer.
- peter (9/5): - One of the best views over Matsushima Bay. Lovely, Japanese-style breakfast included. Very friendly staff. Beautiful private and public onsens available. The rooms are a little small given the price tag. The view is also partially blocked by a massive tree in front of the room.

Accueil très chaleureux de tout le personnel, dès le parking. Magnifiques jeux de lumières sur la terrasse le soir.
