Guest Reviews
- sophiecS1405SG (6/5): Actually quite special to me ❤️ - I gotta say it’s a shame about the lack of care - but …… for me our stay was actually quite special it was the first time me and my boyfriend had stayed the night together anywhere and woken up together - and no matter what the surroundings were we were in our own little world ❤️
- B4226BRrichardp (2/5): Very bad experience - I have never ever been to a hotel like this. As I got into the room I looked round and it was dirty smells really bad so disgusting I walked back out and asked for my money back and the woman on the reservation desk told me to do one and piss off.
I will make sure I tell everyone I can on every site never stay at this hotel.
- Guide18613247668 (2/5): Do NOT book! It's absolutely DISGUSTING!We left without staying! - Booked a quad room as bringing son to visit Coventry University. Checked in, and was given a double room - didn't really want to be sleeping with my son! Swapped rooms to the correct type of room, and the room stank of cigarette smoke even though it was a non- smoking room; carpets were covered in goodness- knows- what- stains; white powder in corner of the room. Got the receptionist to come and have a look, and she was very apologetic and showed us a 3rd room. It was marginally better than the 2nd room - it at least didn't smell! But there were bits of something (pet food?) on the carpet, wee around the toilet, dodgy wiring, and the radiator was unable to be turned down so it was boiling!
I managed to get a refund agreed through Hotels.com that I had booked with, and found another hotel that had availability, because we just couldn't stay here!
- paulcN7433DW (2/5): Disgusting hotel - What a discrace this hotel is lets the city down
There is a strong smell of weed
I was going to book a night but after looking around i left quickly
- causticky (2/5): Run, run away quickly - Where to begin ? Firstly I will say the receptionist was lovely. BUT...This place is described on their website as 'luxury hotel' but NOTHING could be further from the truth, it is a absolute doss house, the extreme filth is nauseating. I would never have stayed here but my eldests friend booked it and she didn't do her research, and not wanting to leave a gaggle of early 20's girls alone I reluctantly stayed. This is a true house of horrors. The entrance is promising, the picture of the house in the 1930's shows what a beautiful place this once was. Once you ascend the stairs it plummets in standards, hardboarding and old Formica covering the original features, wires dangling all around, sticky surfaces and bad smells, cigarettes, weed, BO. The place was last decorated by Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder in the 80's by the look.... The corridors are walked by disheveled old men with no teeth and bad habits. Then there's the rooms, oh my gosh...the filth, the decay. Obviously these owners have vastly different standards to what a modern traveller would expect, cleaning, hygiene, maintenance, if you're staying then you'll keep you shoes on rather than touch the stain ridden carpet, the beds are stained old divan full of random hairs and specks of the unidentified..and the pillows...well ,see the pictures. Food crumbs in the corners, on the window cill, behind the bed. The toilet was a mixture of different non fitting parts and literally falling apart, the seat a health hazard, every corner and skirting thick with grime, I had a shower but I still feel dirty, I will throw away the clothes I wore and spray myself down with Dettol before I enter my house, my skin is crawling from microscopic beasties. The best option for this place is a wrecking ball, it's on its last legs. Shame but it's beyond saving
- Sibbons (1/5): Vile I had to leave - Nothing The whole place was disgusting. I wouldn’t even let me dog stay here!!!!
Inhumane to say the least
- Larkin (5/5): -
- Guest (1/5): - Ok Both rooms bathroom taps no workings probably children struggling for shower mixers water terrible
- Xin (1/5): disaster - the building is full of the musty smell, the room is very dirty. The carpet has loads of stains. The disaster was the fire alarm run suddenly at 3am when I was deeply sleeping, the sound was very sharp, scared me to jump up, but there was no any fire, it just run randomly, seriously that’s unreasonable, made me feel like heart attack. I can’t sleep anymore after that, apart of the musty smell, dirty room, the randomly sharp fire alarm was ridiculous, the only thing that I needed for a hotel had been exploited.
- Jahangir (8/5): -
- Elaine (6/5): Fair price for the room - would use again. - Quiet room, comfortable bed. Now this is strange - out of a selection of bottles and food packets left on the desk, two full bottles of tonic water 'vanished' while we were out.
Leaves a nasty taste in the mouth - has our luggage been gone through? Was anything else taken that I haven't noticed yet?
- Witold (4/5): -
- Chris (1/5): -
- Carl (8/5): Good clean room to sleep - Nice staff, clean room, comfortable, good price. Thanks Nothing
- Robert (2/5): Not good at all - Not a lot It was not clean loads off poeple there on drugs and drink can’t play with pool tables as poeple staying there break it to get the money lots off noise all night no one done a lot about it will not stay there again no one done a lot about it
- Murphy (1/5): - Nothing it was filthy Stained walls and floors.
- Christopher (6/5): - Comfy clean bed Taps in shower broken constant running and by stains in bath have been that way for while hotel could do with modernising
- Tatiana (1/5): - It was cheap and close to the station. First time in my life I slept on top of the blanket because the mattress was brown? I don't know how this is allowed to operate 🤣🤣🤣
- Jon (3/5): -
- Sayeed (1/5): - not at all
- Wilson (2/5): - Nothing... Everything. Hotel needs bringing into the 21 century.
- Jones (1/5): - Nothing From the moment I waikin i cozid tell itvlook different as I entered up stairs there stain everywhere the smell was disgusting and my room well I wouid let my dog stay skitingboads where filly the carpet filly black the windows where filly the washroom disgusting dirty everywhere the bedsheets where dirty I was so scared to stany longer than 15 mnt I felt sick when the pichure what was show on booking .com is not same what I got
- Carl (8/5): Good place to stay - Staff always friendly, standard tea and coffee, towels. Was nice and clean not luxury but a good place to sleep. Nothing
- Blake (8/5): Exactly what was needed, and better than the price had us expecting - Beds super comfy and clean
Room massive
Couldnt notice outside noise after reasonable hour Room next door were noisy as hell but can't fault the hotel for that
- Mh23hl (6/5): Basic and in need of improvements - Convenient location, free parking and pet friendly Noisy outside, lots of barking dogs during the night. Stained carpet and shower broken
- Burns (10/5): -
- Joanna (3/5): Very shady - Bed was comfy & TV easy to use. USB charging points in plug sockets. Very tired looking, carpets were filthy and had what looked like blood stains on them. Desperately needs refurbishment. Could hear people in bar til very late. There were what appeared to be drug dealers in the car park. Wouldn't have liked to stay here on my own, it felt very shady.
- Frank (3/5): My family was not impressed by the cleanliness of the room. - Excellent location, just a walking distance from the Coventry Rail station. We just walked to the hotel with our baggage. Pictures advertised was deceptive. Room had cobwebs on the corners, dust on flat surfaces. Room appeared unused for months.
- Tobi (7/5): -
- githin (1/5): Awful! - Absolutely awful. Very poor and unhygienic. Had to lay towels on the floor. Everything
- Kiera (5/5): Staff member entered locked room at 1am - Handy location, free car park. Clean fresh bedding and towels. Friendly receptionist.
Dogs allowed. At 1am a man entered one of our (2) bedrooms which was extremely upsetting for my friend. He was a member of staff who had a master key.
There is no way of deadlocking the door from inside so we did not feel very safe.
The hotel is long overdue a refurbishment, though is kept clean. Bath sealant is moldy etc.
- Mathew (1/5): Horrible and disgusting - Nothing it looks like it’s falling apart mould everywhere, looks like it’s not been nit been cleaned in months Everything

- Shelly (1/5): - Walking out! Did not end up staying the night and walked out as it smelt and was filthy. Sticky substance on the bed!!! Complained to staff and she agreed a refund on the day. I have been chasing the refund ever since and the hotel will not honour what they agreed on the day. I lost out on my money. I am very annoyed 😡😡
Make sure you do not leave without seeing them email Booking.com about a refund before you leave the hotel.
- Guest (4/5): - Good location Broken window so room was freezing, bedroom door was open when we arrived. The bin wasn’t emptied and there was a dirty towel on the floor
- Golomb (6/5): -
- Kelvin kusi (7/5): -
- Phi (10/5): - Quiet clean room, close to train station
- l (2/5): Dirty - The rooms had potential to be nice and the hotel was in a good location The floors were dirty. There were drunk people shouting outside all night. The place smelt strongly of cigarettes. The whole room was a mess
- kelly (1/5): Avoid at all costs - Omg I arrived here and didn't even stay seen the rooms and handed the keys straight back in it was awful Didn't like anything about the hotel the rooms were awful the staff were friendly but the people staying in the hotel well they wernt very nice either
- Chayse (7/5): Not awful, but for an executive room, you’d think everything would be up to date, clean and repaired - We asked for early check in, as we were arriving from Plymouth, for a funeral, which was at around 2pm. Unfortunately, when we got there, the room wasn’t ready for us, but staff were absolutely amazing and upgraded us to the executive room!
The room was lovely. Nice layout, very comfortable, onsuite bathroom and had everything we needed for our one night stay and the 11am checkout was great too.
The staff were so lovely and very kind. A LOT of stairs - I’m disabled and the room wasn’t ready on the top floor, all the way to the back.
Restaurant wasn’t open throughout the stay.
The room was needing a lot of repairs done. For an executive room, you’d think it would be immaculate. There was lose plaster on the walls, the side panel on the bath was old and grubby, there was dust on things, there was something ripped off halfway on the skirting board, the safety lock on the window was broken in the bathroom and the windows were dirty. The room definitely needs an update.
The noise! When we got there, there was work going on. All we could hear was hammering and drilling, really loud and the extractor fan in the bathroom is super loud, causing us to wake up a few times. For some reason, it just keeps getting louder. The toilets downstairs had no locks (they were broken) and they were very grubby and old looking.
The bar is expensive. £1.80 for a can of Pepsi is insane
- Guest (4/5): -
- Simon (5/5): Acceptable for the price - The room had all basic requirements including a desk and chair, wardrobe space, tv, mirror, kettle and tea/coffee supplies, bath with shower, towels. The room and bathroom were clean enough and the bed was comfortable. There was free WiFi and a car park free for hotel guests. Some of the finishes on the decoration and fittings in the room need to be improved. The shower flow was poor and temperature control was tricky. There was only one coat hanger. Communal areas need modernising.
- Charlene (1/5): Absolutely awful!! DO NOT BOOK!!! - Nothing!! Everything!! From the minute we drove into the car park it didn’t feel safe. On entering the hotel the staff were not very friendly. We went into our room which was the worst room I have ever seen. Mould everywhere, I don’t think anywhere had been cleaned. I think they only changed the beds. There were alot of people hanging around in the car park. It was that bad we didn’t even stay, we took the long drive home instead.
- PaulC4578 (2/5): Rancid - Thought I was staying in a ghost train hotel-scary guests, grim walls, damp ceilings.
2 star is a joke, -2 more appropriate.
Stayed in an executive room but that’s definitely a trades description typo.
Avoid if your life depends on it!!!!
- Stefaann (2/5): - The only good thing was that the towels were clean. I will not recommend this place to anyone.Filthy, mouldy, dirty, broken. The bathroom was unbelievably dirty with pubic hair on the wall tiles and bathtub. The shower curtain was black from the mould. No shower gel and there was only a quarter of the toilet paper roll. The room was big but mould everywhere. We chose the location because it was the closest to the locations we went to see our friends but I am really sorry for the choice. Big mistake.
- linda (6/5): Easy access from motorway for one new ght - Near war memorial park and earlsdon avenue south so I could walk my dog.
I lived there 30 years ago so I was going to look at it
Hotel easy to get to from motorway from Liverpool.
Room ok. It had a lot of people who looked like they lived there.
It was ok for one night but a bit depressing to stay there longer.
- Khalid (4/5): I will never book this hotel - Very dirty bathroom. Dirty bedroom. Dirty bedsheets No cleaning in the hotel
- Zee (1/5): Regrettable stay - Location was great Te rooms condition, strange people, the air was polluted with cigarette, the carpet was dirty with lots of blood stains. It's a sh*t hole.
- 12 (2/5): - The staff were nice The bedsheets are making my sister itch a lot. Mold everywhere. Horrible shower facilities. Bad smelling body wash. Wallpaper coming off. Mold on shower curtains, on the walls.
- shezana (1/5): Not happy with the room. - The room was not clean. The curtains came off the top, side wardrobe broken. The mirror was disgusting not cleaned atall its like an animals paw had been on it. Had no choice but to stay there but not what I was expecting. An awful smell through the hallways. The room. Big name for absolutely nothing.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Kai (1/5): - The location Smelt like fags in the room. Woke up the next day and just all my belongings smelt like fags. Whole hotel looked unclean.
- Gholamreza (3/5): Too load to sleep and no one care. - nothing Bathroom was was nightmare, broken and dirty tiles, Tap was faulty and you couldn’t turn of the water. worst than everything there was a night club downstairs and putting load music on until 4 am, no way you could sleep
- kim (4/5): - That it was close to the train station The taps in the shower were broken so you couldn't have a shower. There was no plug for the sink so you couldn't have a proper wash. The bathroom had cobwebs in the corners of the room and mould along the bath tub.
The room was very tired and smelt musty but that went after we aired the room.
- David (9/5): Excellent location, great room for working and fast WiFi - Very friendly staff and warming It can be a busy road
- Rolandas (7/5): -
- Guest (1/5): -
- Jozsef (5/5): -
- Prince (2/5): -
- James (5/5): - There are a lot of council rehomed at the hotel who are standing around in the car park which feels very uncomfortable, once in your room it feels so much safer
- Thakur Kumar (3/5): -
- Natasha (1/5): Don’t stay here - filthy! - Nothing. The property was not fit for guests. There are many things wrong with the property. We stayed here as a family, across 3 rooms. All the rooms were filthy. The windows are broken, they don’t close properly. The front door bracket was broken so anyone could have broken in. The carpets are filthy, I didn’t take my shoes off. The bathroom was so dirty, the shower curtain was yellow, limescale all around the toilet, bath panel had holes in, mirror had a big crack right across it. My brother’s mattress was yellow! They played music so loud till 1am and I complained about it twice, they didn’t turn it down - it was making the glasses in the room shake! The property is not suitable for guests at all. I have emailed booking.com to make a complaint and receive a full refund.
- Iheoma (6/5): -
- John Paul (10/5): - Easily accessible to train station Nothing
- Hristo (10/5): -
- Dhawal (1/5): - Nothing pathetic Pathetically maintained. The images show beautiful rooms but originally they dirty and would never like to stay and would never suggest any one to stay there
- Kosovare (1/5): Never again! Came with my 2year old imagine if she found the butcher kaide that was under the bed! Hotel dont care didn’ -
- Esther (1/5): - Absolutely nothing
- Guest (1/5): What a whole 3 hours joke of a place - Nothing apart from the view On arrival there was nobody at reception had to wait for the maintenance man to call the manager to come. So we decided to go and had a drink in the bar but no staff member to serve us. Finally after 25 minutes manager arrived and gave us the key to our room. Got in the room to find dirty carpet, towels and no tv remote, so back to reception to speak with the manager, towels sorted and told him he will send the maintenance guy up to us with a remote. Maintenance guy arrived and said that he hasn’t got one for the tv and can’t do anything. Manager said that he would refund me £10 which I refused and ended up leaving the dirty hotel getting in the car and going back home fuming.
- Max (4/5): -
- Jabez (5/5): - Smoke smell in the corridor and out the rooms while walking around
- Harrison (3/5): -
- Vincent (7/5): -
- Lupusoara (1/5): -
- Lupusoara (3/5): -
- sushan (7/5): Okey okey - High cigarette smell around the hotel second day I requested shower gel until the check out I didn’t receive
- Rhia (1/5): -
- Carl (10/5): - Staff were exceptional offered me sandwiches because they had a farewell party for a leaving staff. Room was clean it was very quiet I can't fault the. Nothing
- Lucas (3/5): A very disappointing stay. The room was uncomfortable and poorly equipped, the bathroom was unclean and impractical, and - Disappointing Stay
Unfortunately, my stay at Hylands Hotel was very disappointing. The room was in poor condition — the bed was extremely uncomfortable, and although there were tea and coffee supplies, there was no kettle provided. The TV barely worked and was stuck with subtitles on. The bathroom was particularly unpleasant, especially as someone with a medical condition. The shower curtain was stained and unclean, and the shower/bath setup didn’t allow for a cool shower and was hard to turn off. I wouldn’t recommend staying here based on my experience.
- Andrew (5/5): - despite trying to highlight my troubles climbing stairs I was given a second floor room and I was very tired by the climb when I got to the room
- Mohamed (10/5): -
- Frasineanu (6/5): -
- Karen (10/5): - Value for money, nr the station and park. Food take aways 5 min drive. Homely hotel.great wifi
- Alan (5/5): Buena ubicación - Muy Buena ubicación y silencio. Buen estado. La pieza estaba inundada (baño) no se supo que era y la solución que me dieron fue muy precaria.
- Nick (7/5): - location, room size lack and thickness of pillows, condition of carpet ( covered in red pen ink)
- Guest (8/5): - Distance from the train station and the simplicity of the hotel regarding check ins and staff.
- EDWARD (9/5): VERY HAPPYWITH STAY AT HYLANDS LOOK 4WARDTO NEXT TIME MAYBE LATE AUGUST - VERY COMFY BED SLEPT LIKE BABY AFTER 23HRS TRAVELLING FROM PERU ALL OK NO COMPLAINTS
- Francesca (1/5): Avoid at all costs! Awful hotel nothing like what it describes - Nothing The rooms look nothing like the photos. There was bare wires hanging from the ceiling with no light fittings. There was damp and mould. The tv was half broken. Bits of the wall had been patched up. We didn’t even stay we went and stayed somewhere else. We requested a refund and are still waiting
- Dimas Aji (8/5): -
- Guest (8/5): Good value and conveniently situated for Coventry city centre with plenty of parking. - Friendly & accommodating staff.
Good amount of free parking
- Leanne (1/5): Would never stay again - When we got to the room it felt really bad of wee and the restaurant club was playing extremely load music till 4.15am so we as a family did not get much sleep at all.
- Kevin (1/5): - Nothing at all It was filthy
Things were very broken
Our booking was lost, when located it was wrong. Staff member blamed booking.com
We were told there were no rooms, they were full.
Staff member found it funny. Check in took over an hour … at 22.00- we were given 4 rooms in the end (they said they were totally full) after our first two (we had booked a family room - not two doubles) stank so badly of urine it took your breath away- were unbearable, filthy and full of broken and ripped things. We were then given a room with a mattress on the floor, no light in the bathroom -
A bath with no side on it and a wardrobe with the doors half on half off. We could sleep in this room but had to then have another room to use the bathroom in!!!!!!
