Guest Reviews
- teresa (10/5): - Nice place, room was ok, shame no restaurant. But they were closing down.
- stuart (4/5): Very dated - This place doesn’t look like it’s been updated since the 70’s. There was a room and it had a bed. That’s about as much as I can say for it.
- rebeccadS99FP (6/5): Alright if cheap. - Really nice staff. Lots of parking and close enough to Fareham to walk. Bedding was clean and the bed was comfy. Dodgy stains on the blinds. The bathroom was awful. Taps stained with green grime and the water temperature was either freezing or hot enough to roast your skin off (no exaggeration). OK if it's cheap but avoid room 26.
- Simon (10/5): - Good
- Mark (10/5): - Close to Harvester restaurant, Fareham train station and Aldi supermarket (all easily walkable in 5-10 mins) plus on site evening and breakfast options in lovely airy and light conservatory. Great friendly helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Will not stay there again - Staff in reception very friendly, the rest is not good.
The bed linen was dirty, stains on pillow cases and human hair in the sheets, room was cold on arrival, heating was off, bathroom very run down and needs a big upgrade. Bath towels dirty and have seen better days.
Restaurant food was microwave food.
- Ashley (2/5): Not a place we would stay again - The rooms were probably last decorated in the 1980's. Carpet is stained. Blinds didnt work. Windows dont open. There is only one towel. Bed was uncomfortable & the white covers were grey from age. Needs an update
- David (10/5): - Convenient for ferries. Clean, tidy, very good value
- Aimee (8/5): - Room was clean and welcoming. Bed was a bit creaky and uncomfortable. Pillows were also flat.
Wouldn’t stop me staying again though
- Monica (8/5): Friendly staff, comfortable stay - I stopped 20-21 Oct. as well visiting friends in the area before and after my visit to the Isle of Wight. I chose it for its closeness to the train station but a very busy main road with no pedestrian filter between the station and the hotel made it more difficult than expected.
Friendly helpful staff and very clean little hotel for one night stopover. Breakfast choice was rather limited with no cornflakes or fruit available. My room was downstairs and was well furnished including a desk and plenty of drawers. A very comfortable night. The towels included a huge bath sheet - a definite bonus. All in all, thank you for looking after me so well!
- Mark (8/5): - Great staff. Good clean room and bathroom. Full breakfast available £9 including tea or coffee. Evening meals available to order. Harvester restaurant a few minutes walk towards the town centre and the train station a few minutes more. Good car park.
- Rache (10/5): - Lovely receptionist. Nothing too muchbtrouble
- Alison (8/5): - Great value for the price, only downside was the size of the tv, much too small, will definitely come back again 👍👍
- Claire (4/5): - Receptionist was lovely, helpful, polite.
The rooms were clean, but in need of updating, the mattress was in need of replacing, it was sagging.
- Solomon (10/5): - Pleasant
- Neil (10/5): - Friendly service and staff
- Lee (8/5): - Really nice staff. Very nice area. Pleasant enough room. Slight issue with shower but nothing to spoil the overall stay. Would recommend quite happily
- Lorraine (8/5): - The hotel was clean, staff very helpful. The hotel is dated. Within walking distance to Fareham. Would stay again.
- Kevin (10/5): Beautiful stay - Absolutely lovely place not far from the high street very comfy bed excellent service the front of desk lady was amazing friendly and very helpful we visit fareham three times yearly to visit our Son and family usually go to red lion however had a change to you so sorry you are closing in October
- Corina (4/5): - The bedroom wasnt what i expected, i've neber stayed in a room that untidy, for the money that i've paid i was expecting at least a good bed to sleep. The bed is full of bumps and the bed sheets are very old. Towels are so old that threads are coming out. Is like going back 30 years in this room.
I came here with my daughter because in the morning she's haveing a gymnastics competition and we were hoping to hev a good restful night before wich for me definitely wasnt
- Andrew (10/5): - Perfect stay with amazing service from the lady checking us in who really helped with our requests. Thank you.
- Martin (8/5): Stop over to ferry - Clean comfortable short stop
Over to ferry terminal great harvester pub short walk for evening meal
- Jane (8/5): - Lovely lady on reception. The room was nice and great shower. Could do with a bit of updating but a nice hotel.
- Lynn (8/5): - Staff on site were very welcoming and friendly, a lovely greeting for weary travellers. Room was a little outdated and tired but comfortable. The main road was noisy at peak times.
- John (10/5): A very tired hotel - The reception experience was very good and easy parking, but that was about all! The signage when we arrived had a different name to the booking, so was difficult to identify (we sailed past). Everywhere was rather tired and the beds not very comfortable (old and cheap mattress). We didn't take breakfast so can't comment on this.
- Linda (8/5): Lovely little hotel - Check in was quick and friendly. The room was spacious and we had a disabled room not our choice but was a lovely hot wet room for the bathroom. Its a shame the hotel is closing soon, to be made into flats.
- Trevor (8/5): - I loved the breakfast. Did not like the fact I stayed 2 nights and did not get a tidy up, bed nade or clean towels. Room was satisfactory but needed windows closed due to traffic noise
- Sarah (6/5): - I chose this property for its location which proved to be ok.
It is need of updating.
My room faced directly onto the car park, where a huge works van was parked, obstructing any ‘view’ and light coming into the room.
The window blinds were broken, tatty and just not in a good state of repair.
The bathroom was ok, shower was poor and could not run a bath.
Rooms are not tended to each day, not that that bothered me and had to ask for tea coffee etc.
Bed was comfortable.
It was an ‘ok’ stay but definitely needs some TLC
- Steve (10/5): - Very helpful would definatly stay again
- Mr Theo (10/5): - This hotel is small and cosy with very friendly staff, especially the manager, who was most helpful and accommodating. Food was good quality.
The location is on the busy A27 and in rooms at the front of the building can road noise can be heard.
A value for money hotel.
- Victoria (10/5): - Weather was amazing, local to train station and bus route.
- Sarah (4/5): - The room we stayed in was a bit dark and depressing, unlike some of the other rooms I saw. The bedding did not smell clean. The wifi did not work. The bathroom is in need of an update, leaking fitting on the shower fixing so no pressure at all and water went cold very quickly..
Good location for what we needed.
- mark (10/5): Travel fareham - Excellent stay
Nice breakfast in the morning
Friendly staff
Easy to find and good routes out to go site seeing
Some nice walks nearby as well
- jasongH5720AD (8/5): Basic but friendly and cosy. - We needed a stop en route to Southampton docks after travelling from Yorkshire.
This did the job as we needed somewhere to rest our weary heads. It was welcoming with a friendly receptionist and the room was cozy (if a little tired which would be expected if the so called housing development is taking over).
It had a certain charm to it and was perfect for what we needed.
If you are looking for a modern place with all the mod cons then you probably won't want to stay here but if you just need somewhere basic and friendly then this will suit your needs. Breakfast was a sausage butty and a coffee - perfect (but they do a full English etc as well).
Sorry to hear this place is closing down, but glad we got the opportunity to stay for a night. Thanks👍👍❤️
- 0707David (8/5): A nice hotel - A very pleasant small hotel very conveniently situated on the outskirts of Fareham and from which one has easy access to the Portsmouth and Southampton areas. My wife and I enjoyed our stay, finding the accommodation clean and comfortable. I am very disappointed that this lovely little hotel will be closing down soon so that developers can build multiple housing units
- Aaron (6/5): Not suitable if you're a light sleeper. - Nice place and location. But i hadn't realised the hotel was so close to the main road and i was situated in the front room where i couldn't open the windows as i'd hear cars go by all night. So i was fairly hot in the night and couldn't sleep too well. Everything else including food was great.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Lovely centrally located hotel - Lovely hotel for the price.
- BBE7_61 (4/5): Awful experience, scalded in shower - 3 star at best, scalded in shower when elsewhere cold water was used, poor quality furnishings, window blinds broken, over sink light broken, plastic glasses in bathroom vile, grouting around bath are has black mould needs redoing 😩 taps etc are old and horrid, bed linen greyer than our skies and pillow cases could be mistaken as floor cloths. Could not recommend anyone to stay here, although it apparently works well with Goodwood. In general you’re in one of two camps
Three star suits us just fine
The place needs a total refurbishment
Locals said it’s needed refurbishing for years.
- Melonee (10/5): - Exactly as described. Lots of off street parking. Staff were very pleasant. They recommended a place down the street for dinner which very good. Beds were comfy. We had breakfast in the morning. It was quick and well made. For the price this is a gem!
- Julia (10/5): Clean, friendly hotel - Hotel staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, rooms were basic but very clean, beds were comfortable
- Ian (4/5): - Being knocked out of bed at 10am 1 hour before official and fully paid up to checkout time this morning. Then being asked to pay for a drink I had paid for on arrival. The hotel is in need of a major investment and upgrade and the staff i interacted with need some customer service training. I won't be returning. I was also woken by a 5am false fire alarm which put the icing on the cake.
- Debbie (8/5): - Enjoyed our stay just found one member of staff not too friendly.
- Panagiotis (10/5): - Nice and quiet, with friendly staff, discrete service, beautiful garden
- Michael (10/5): - From the time we arrived until we left couldn't fault it..Staff were fantastic and very polite and helpful.. breakfast was freshly cooked. Anything we needed we just asked they couldn't help us enough fantastic place to stay. Highly recommend it
- Howard (8/5): - Convenient for railway station. Bigger room and bathroom compared to most budget hotel chains. Good value.
- Christine (8/5): - In a very good location for public transport and central as well, not too far to walk even to get into fareham itself.
I have stayed at this accommodation 3 times now and never any problems and nothing is too much for the staff well looked after
- 862eleanorh (8/5): Friendly and comfortable - The staff were very friendly: from the lovely Eileen who talked me through my phone booking and greeted me on arrival, through the owner who bought in ingredients specially for my preferred gluten-free breakfast, to the helpful kitchen staff.
The double room was pretty small and the decor took me back to the 80s (it even smelled like my college room, which was a lovely spot of nostalgia!) but it was comfortable and clean. The cafetière and ground coffee were a nice touch.
The breakfast was fine and the conservatory it was served in was lovely: clean and bright with a view over the garden.
- JULIA (10/5): - We love this hotel - it’s always so welcoming, clean and a great price. Unfortunately, this time we had a different ground floor room and the bed was not as comfortable as the ones in the other room we’ve slept and the TV was tiny.
As usual Anita was amazing, professional and goes out of her way to make guests feel welcome … thank you Anita 😁
- James (8/5): - Everything was of a good standard. Helpful and friendly staff. We werr satisfied.
- Richard (10/5): - Quick check in. Helpful friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Tired but clean and comfortable. - Tired but clean and comfortable. Perfect for a one night stay before getting on the ferry
- Ian (8/5): - Nice but overpriced
- Karl (4/5): - Tv size of a iPad room smelt of smoke
- Passenger21936223162 (10/5): Great find. Brilliant stay - Perfect for what we needed. Friendly welcome, lovely team of staff, clean, spacious rooms, excellent bathroom with great shower. Delicious breakfast. Comfy beds. A great night’s sleep, parking. Basically what you’d want from a really good B&B. Have already booked for the next time we need to be local and would 100% recommend. It’s a really good find and much needed in the area.
- Dan (10/5): - Rustic
- Malcolm (8/5): - The room was comfortable enough if somewhat dated and tired. The shower was a bath with a shower attachment. The towels were very old frayed, and clean but in poor condition.
- Kyle (10/5): - As usual, perfect for our needs.
- Solomon (8/5): - Pleasant area. Nice reception area as I spent a good 20 minutes awaiting for service. Not much of in room entertainment. Table lamps available but with no sockets to plug into
- X1055YMkylek (10/5): Excellent value for money - We have been using TravelRest for many years now and I finally decided to leave a review!
The hotel is in a great location for us with plenty of parking.
Ian and the team are friendly and very helpful. Any issues have been promptly dealt with.
The rooms have always been clean and tidy and plenty of tea and coffee available.
The only thing this place lacks to make it perfect, is a swimming pool, but I'm sure if you ask Eileen nicely, she can rig one up in the kitchen in no time ;)
- Ireneusz (10/5): - Excellent, friendly and helpful staff. Thank you for great, tasty breakfast. Highly recommended hotel.
- steve (10/5): - All was easy start to finish
- Vanessa (4/5): - The room was depressing due mainly to the dark brown curtains and large, overpowering red wall. The room is too small for those. The lighting was strange. Side table lamps (perhaps with shades) are needed.
The bathroom really needs some TLC! Time to renew the bath, taps and shower door bottom seal. That was really not nice!
On leaving, the open door to the room next door showed a much brighter room with a bay window.
Perhaps we were just unlucky with room 26?
- Christopher (10/5): - Perfect location, will use again!
- Christina (8/5): - Really friendly, comfortable place to stay. Close to the station and really clean.
- geoffrey (10/5): Great stay - Lovely place to stay, very friendly staff. Locations was great for my needs.
Very clean, well equipped rooms, everything you need.
- Vikkie (10/5): - Very friendly budget hotel , did what it said in the tin , for the price really can’t complain! Only marked down on facilities and condition as it was a bit run down in places but perfect for what we needed.
- Joe (10/5): - The lady running the front desk and cooking the breakfast was brilliant. She woke up early to cook my breakfast and It was delicious. You dont see friendly personable service like that at larger hotel chains.
- Sylvia (10/5): - Lovely stay staff where very pleasant
- Heather (10/5): - Room was lovely and spacious, everything there that we needed.
- lisamac043 (4/5): very basic room, needs improving - Great location. good breakfast, although small portion of cooked breakfast priced at £9 which includes a drink.
The cleanliness and décor downstairs was of good standard, however the room we were in upstairs was a double, overlooking the car park, was dated and not clean. Bed linen was old and not crisp nor white. The pillows were poor quality. Bathroom sink and bath had not been cleaned with a cleaning product, as there was no shine and hairs in bath from previous customers stay! The bedlinen had bits on the sheets, similar consistency to sand, very off putting and old blood stained that had not come out of laundry properly. The towels however were very clean and of a good size.
Mould present in windowsill, which needs attention and condensation on windows. Décor is tired. Very small room with little wardrobe space, ok for aweekend r with animals as it is a little neglected upstairs I feel.
A strong smell of cannabis on arrival back to room at night.
Overall a reasonable rate, but needs improving on cleaning standards and updating bed linen, pillows and decorating in lighter shades.
A full length mirror will be helpful.
Staff helpful, but rushed off feet as there taking orders and cooking.
- debbieh08 (10/5): Central go to hotel. - Another great stay, manager and staff friendly and helpful as had to change booking to an extra adult plus one puppy. Food great, cooked fresh to order, over heard one couple disliking the wait for tea, reminded them it is cooked to order. Bed comfy, room clean, will be back in February. Thank you.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We arrived for a 2 night stay and was immediately told that the heating was not working. We were given an oil radiator. The bathroom had a dirty cleaning cloth left in sink. Next morning there was no hot water. The blinds were broken, so as soon as it was dark, we had to pull the curtains. The window sill, which was in a bay, had paint peeling off it. On our departure morning we ran the water in the bathroom and after 15 minutes, managed some hot water. Whilst having breakfast in the conservatory, the roof was leaking in several places. Although the staff were helpful and friendly, it seems that the rooms could benefit from some maintenance and updating.
- Roger (6/5): - This is an ageing property with dated decor.
The reception staff were excellent.
There was no heating in our room and no hot water for evening or next morning. No shower as a result.
We were told that this was due to a defective boiler. This information only received after a specific question to reception. It should have been an upfront apology.
- Michael (10/5): - The hotel was very economic and perfectly comfortable with friendly staff. A good breakfast at a reasonable price
- Christine (10/5): - A smart clean and tidy friendly hotel. The second time i have stayed nothing too much trouble for the staff. Would definately go back
- Jo-ann (8/5): - Staff were super friendly and welcoming.
- Samantha (10/5): Wonderful as ever - Always a pleasant stay here, staff are lovely, treat you with respect and dignity.
- 0707David (8/5): A nice hotel - A very pleasant small hotel very conveniently situated on the outskirts of Fareham and from which one has easy access to the Portsmouth and Southampton areas. My wife and I enjoyed our stay, finding the accommodation clean and comfortable.
- Sheona (8/5): - The checkin was ok but we were somewhat taken aback when we were told they didnt service the rooms on a daily basis. Thought this only happened during Covid restrictions.!! We did ask to get towels changed and the bin emptied and the tea tray refreshed. Very poor customer service so we didnt have breakfast there. On the positive side the hotel is near the railway station and is a short walk away from Fareham town centre
- Pablo19760 (4/5): Warm greeting but poor standard of accommodation - Firstly the positives. This hotel is nicely priced and in a good location. I received a warm greeting and all of the information I needed at reception. It was nice to have free parking and a novelty to have a cafetière in the room.
I agree with many other reviews about the tiredness of the rooms and the furniture. It doesn’t really feel like a hotel in the room. It feels like a mate’s spare room you stayed in during the 1980s that you have returned to. To find it exactly the same.
The styling in my room was very brown and I was tempted to think it might be dirty but it wasn’t. The cleanliness was fine apart from some dead bugs in the light fitting. If the bed was changed, the wallpaper torn down, a lock of paint given and some brighter colours it might be quite pleasant.
This was a work trip. I would hope not to have to stay again but would do if necessary. I have been at worse. Which probably isn’t the warmest endorsement!
- Derek Robert (8/5): - Very clean and quiet hotel.
- Derek Robert (8/5): - Very clean and quiet hotel, friendly staff
- Mark (4/5): Worse night sleep in years! - Stayed here before and was impressed, however this occasion was awful.
Bedding cheap linen used, bed very uncomfortable, bathroom dirty with black mold on tiles, grout missing in floor tiles.
Dead flies within lamp shade covers. Breakfast although cooked sausages cheap tasting, mushrooms over cooked and price of room certainly not worth the stay.
- Robert (10/5): - I arrived later than 11pm due to my flight into UK arriving late. The receptionist was very friendly and pleasant and showed me to my room.
The room was clean and very pleasant to sleep in.
The breakfast was delicious and the conservatory is a nice area to eat in.
Although check out is meant to be no later than 10 am the staff allowed me to stay longer as they were not ready to clean my room. As I was going to get new car just after 12 midday. This was greatly appreciated as I had 3 heavy bags.
I would definitely stay here again.
- Margaret (8/5): - Very nice place close to the city
- Christina (10/5): - Friendliness
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean & comfortable. Property a bit ‘tired’ & dated but good value for the price. Friendly, helpful staff & lovely freshly cooked breakfast. Easy free parking.
- R T Dean (8/5): Convenient - The hotel was within a short distance of the company I was visiting and therefore convenient for a short stay
- Ian (10/5): A nice place - A very pleasant room, perfectly suited to our needs. Very friendly staff. An enjoyable stay
- Anne (8/5): Convenient for the Ferry - Ideal for an early morning crossing ferry from Portsmouth - just 18 minutes away!
- Paul (4/5): Farehl - Overall fine, although very poor WiFi, plumbing needs reviewing, hot water took an age to get through then scalding
- Steve (8/5): - It was good to be greeted by name and be asked what we needed.
Our room was small but fully equipped. The hotel was easy to find and very handy for the early morning ferry from Portsmouth.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Will use again - Great hotel and location. Friendly and approachable staff. Food really good and fairly priced. Only negative was I would have liked a safe in the room. Definitely stay here again
- Susan (2/5): - This was a terrible property bed was uncomfortable
Tv was small
Food was horrible and made me
Feel very unwell for a day or
Two
- Carol (6/5): - Room was okay but breakfast wasn’t great and was expensive for what it was
- Margaret (8/5): Very good - The bathroom was dated with no shelf space next to the basin. The shower and towels were excellent. The cooked breakfasts were very good and served quickly. Staff were friendly and helpful.
- Alan (10/5): - Clean, comfortable, quiet, pleasant staff, easy to find, good breakfast options and value for money.
- Colin (10/5): - Conveniently located
- Anna (10/5): - Perfect place to stay (twice) as it is close to the driving test centre! Very polite staff and helpful regarding places to eat.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good staff! - The staff were really helpful and made a big effort to make us welcome. They deserve a pat on the back for their attitude and helpfulness.
The food available in walking distance was disappointing.
