On top of a hill, the views are spectacular. The only challenge is that the distance made it difficult to take a break during our sightseeing days. The shuttle bus is a great help.

The staff were so kind and went out of their way to help. The view from our room as well as the breakfast room was stunning. Breakfast was delicious each morning. The location, while a bit removed from the city, is not something we could really complain about given that it is what also allows for the sense of peace and the aforementioned incredible views of the city. There's a shuttle to and from the central part of the city, which is convenient. We especially enjoyed the onsen, both the hotel's own as well as the larger one shared with the sister property. Maybe we were lucky, but the shared onsen was not only large, but not crowded at all. We loved Nagasaki and staying here was a really big part of that. We would love to visit again - HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Nothing!

• Avril (10/5): - The accomodation, facilities, breakfast and view exceeded our expectations. The staff were extremely helpful. Remember you will be sleeping on futon mats. We gave no hesitation in recommending this Ryokan.

• Sabrina (10/5): Was für eine Aussicht - Das Hotel hat einen ganz besonderen Charme. Obwohl vom Bahnhof ein gratis Shuttle direkt zum Hotel fährt wollten wir den 20 minütigen Aufstieg zu Fuß nehmen. Am Weg begegneten uns viele Katzen und die zahlreichen Treppen-Pfade führen vorbei an Volksschulen, Parks und privaten Häusern. Im Hotel anzukommen ist eine Belohnung nach dem Aufstieg die es wert ist. Die Lobby duftet, morgens wurde uns eine Englisch-sprachige ihr Zeitung vor die Tür gelegtund die Aussicht auf Nagasaki und das Meer ist atemberaubend. Ich würde es sofort wieder buchen.

• Rocan (9/5): immersive ethereal experience - I loved the traditional feeling, I loved the atmosphere and ambience. Food was great staff were great and friendly. View was breathtaking and even better than any photo could capture It was a little far from most public transport being on the mountain, so it's advised to have a car. If you're expecting 5 star hotel cleanliness and service you might be disappointed but the hotel does really assume you understand that it's a Ryokan first and not a hotel first.

• Kylan (10/5): 美しい長崎 - Such an incredible view of Nagasaki from the rooms. Lovely hotel with kind staff and great onsens as well! Loved staying here, definitely a highlight of our trip and a view I won't soon forget. Location is on top of a hill in the middle of the city, which seems far from the top, but we never took a taxi ride there or back that was longer than 10-12 minutes. Very nice. Walking down the hotel to the tram is fun to do at least once too, weather permitting. :)

• David (10/5): Wonderful unique experience with spectacular view over Nagasaki. - Spectacular view over Nagasaki Harbour from our room. Dinner served in the room is an unforgettable experience and the staff coming to make up the bed in room on the floor was cute too. A wonderfully unique place to stay for a night in Nagasaki! It’s not a dislike, but it would be difficult to visit the other sights of Nagasaki from the hotel without a 15-20 minute taxi ride in each direction. Not a criticism but practical advice.

On the night of 15 November 2025, we waited in vain at Nagasaki JR station from 6.40 pm for the 7 pm shuttle bus to the hotel. Perhaps we missed it because it did not have any signage in English, nor the hotel logo? As the 7 pm shuttle bus the night before (on 14 November) had the hotel logo on it, we were expecting the same for 15 Nov. The 8 pm shuttle did not have the hotel logo or any sign displayed in English and we had to approach the driver before he took out the sign for the hotel which, in our opinion, should have been displayed on the front window screen.

• Vincent (10/5): - All element to experience the Japanese Ryokan experience are there. The room are in the traditional style, with typical decoration and ̀with a great view on Nagasaki. There is access to 2 baths, with indoor and outdoor bath with view on the city. The food was excellent, well presented and served. The personal was also perfect, always smiling and helpful. Wonderful experience for me.

On a le choix entre deux bains. Le personnel est très agréable et très accueillant. L'hôtel était très calme et nous avons eu plaisir à profiter des offres. Le petit déjeuner est très varié, de bonne qualité et vraiment copieux, toujours avec une vue splendide. Il y avait une odeur de nourriture dans les couloirs et les chambre, particulièrement au moment de se coucher. Par ailleurs, certaines parties des communs mériteraient d'être un peu rafraichies.

• Andy (9/5): Booking Koyotei made my family very happy! - The breakfast is personalized to you according to whether it is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. day you stay there. The views are great. The snacks provided are also nice; I bought some home to give my friends. There is a small bath but you can also use the bigger bath in their sister hotel, Baishokaku. The drive up to the hotel is harrowing and steep, which is also the case for 70% of urban Nagasaki localities. It is tricky to adjust the temperature of indoor heating here.

• Timothy (10/5): A great Ryokan experience with a magic view. - This a favourite of ours. The staff are exceptional and the view is the most amazing we have seen in Japan. If you are looking for a great Ryokan experience in Japan then you can’t go past this little gem. The rooms were quite hot at night but we were provided with fans to cool down as soon as we mentioned it. Not the hotel’s fault as the autumn has been unseasonably hot this year.

Also the view is the best ull ever have in a hotel. Our room was stunning and gorgeous. We would stay here again whenever we visit the amazing Nagasaki again. Absolutely nothing to complain 12/10 points!

Onsen was clean and tidy. Very nice to have frozen Popsicles on the way out of the onsen. Rooms well appointed and tatami was surprisingly comfortable.

• Mari (9/5): Beautiful hotel with a beautiful view. - This is a really beautiful Japanese style hotel. The view of the city and harbour is spectacular. The staff is lovely. There a shuttles to take you from Nagasaki Station to the hotel and back. Breakfast is abundant. It wasn’t a problem for us, but this property is not completely accessible. There isn’t an elevator or escalator and you need to go up and down via the stairs.

• Lee (10/5): Excellent, relaxing, genteel hotel stay. Relaxing bath, delectable meals, and world-class view! - A visit to Nisshokan Bettei Koyotei is like a step back to gentle and easy days. Absolutely 1st rate staff made everything about my stay enjoyable and relaxing. It was obvious they prepared well, learned who we were and what we liked. I felt valued, pampered, and relaxed. There is no better location in Nagasaki. What a view! This is an older hotel and feels a little dated. It was easy for our large picture window to fog up. The walk to the sento bath feels like a trek. Also, it is so far up the mountain that you cannot walk to this hotel. A taxi/shuttle ride is an adventure as well. I don't know how they make it up the final drive-way. so steep!
• Melissa (9/5): Superb - Absolutely lovely hotel. Beautiful, helpful and efficient staff made the stay so smooth and restful. Huge room. Wonderful food. The most amazing view over Nagasaki and its harbour from the sitting area in our room. Loved it. Also great minibus service to and from hotel to train station (central area); the drivers are amazing. The hill is really something else! Use of onsen at next door sister hotel was very welcome. The onsen at Koyotei is nice and clean but a little small. Initially we were a bit put off by the massively steep hill upon which these hotels are perched (and a bit scared after driving up it!) as we thought it would be too hard to get around. The minibus service was GREAT though and the view makes the hill absolutely worth it. We walked down to the harbour a couple of times and it's a fascinating crawl - winding down the lanes and staircases through the houses. Didn't walk back up but certainly it is possible. Easy to get taxis back after a late night, and they're cheap.

• Ann (10/5): Unforgettable Japanese Ryokan on a Mountaintop - This hotel is a little out of the way, but really worth it for the view. It's relaxing to see Nagasaki from above at different times of day. The staff were so friendly and always smiling and greeting guests, even giving us big waves as the station shuttle departed. I recommend taking advantage of the shuttle bus because while the city bus gets near the hotel, it's a steep mountain and the remaining walk is quite intense. The included breakfast was high quality.

• Karl (10/5): Traditional Japanese hospitality with superb dining - This ryokan is about as fancy as you can get. It is not in town and required a taxi or shuttle to get there; fortunately they provide a free shuttle but it's on a schedule. Because it's on a hill above the city, it's peaceful and the view is fantastic. The service was friendly and helpful and they spoke English. Signs and information were in English. The room rate included meals for which this ryokan is well known. The meals were exquisite, traditional food artistically prepared. We didn't try the public bath, but it looked clean and was empty. In the waiting area for the public bath, there were massage chairs and foot massage machines that were wonderful after a day of walking around the city. The room had a soaking tub we enjoyed. We felt pampered. Some people might not like the location but we found it easy to get to the city for sightseeing.

Be advised that altough it is not that far from the Nagasaki station, it is an uphill climb. Really not a good option to do by walk. The hotel was quite old and in need of maintenance.

• Joanne (10/5): Exceptional - The staff and service were incredible, the meals were delicious, the view over Nagasaki were some of the best in the city. The rooms were huge and comfortable. This place is a gem.
• りな (10/5): - 夜景が素晴らしいです。 2歳と0歳連れでしたが、部屋にお風呂がついていて、ひのきの香りで子どもたちとゆっくり入れました。 また、ベビーベッドやおむつ用ゴミ箱を用意いただけて、大変助かりました。 ベビーバスも貸し出してくれるそうです。 みなさんこどもにも優しく、接客も素晴らしかったです。 姉妹館に連絡通路で繋がっていますが、階段がかなりきついです。 （姉妹館に売店、夜景が見える露天風呂と、サウナありました※水風呂はぬるめ） 館内はエレベーターがないため、階段昇降が大変です。 しかし、朝ごはんも美味しくてトータルで大満足でした。 次泊まる時は夕食もいただきたいと思います。

• Low (10/5): Exceptional - Dinner which was served in the room was very good. The staff who set up the dinner was polite and friendly. The city and night view from the room was very beautiful The water temperature in the onsen bath is too hot
• Raphael (10/5): a traditional Japanese stay - The property is a traditional Japanese Koyotei situated about a 10 minute bus ride on the northeast of Nagasaki station. The bus is provided by the hotel as a complimentary service and is very convenient. The property itself is very peaceful and when I was there, it attracted many domestic Japanese tourists. Something which I prefer to see as I like to ingrain myself into the culture. A very beautiful culture indeed. At other hotels I have been to in Japan the guests can be primarily foreign. The public baths were exquisite as well. The large bath includes a sauna. Be warned, this traditional Japanese hotel does not cater to western needs in terms of the temperature of the sauna and baths. Unlike other Koyotei, these baths are HOT. But I encourage you to try them. The breakfast was exquisite. The arrangement of the bento boxes, the variety, and the staff was all very well thought out. Thank you for the stay. In my room there were a few bugs. Not the annoying type but they were just there. Some were like butterflies and were quite pretty.
