- Joe (8/5): No frills - The location is beautiful, right along the river. The onsen is great as well, which also has a sauna and a cold plunge. With the current USD to Yen conversion, it was a great deal. I love staying in old ryokans, but this one was somewhat lower than my expectation. Perhaps because I was expecting a river view out my window, but instead had a view of the aging building and employee parking lot.

- Luc (9/5): - On the day we had to return to Kagoshima the ferry boat from Miyanoura was cancelled . The hotel manager helped us in a very friendly and efficiënt way to make immediately reservation for the jet foil Rocky with departure to Kagoshima same day. This was of great help, without this help our travel schedule for our Japan trip would have been in ruin with a lot of extra expenses .
Thank you very much, best regards, Luc

- Wei (8/5): -
- Lorraine (9/5): -
- Ignacio (9/5): Superb - Friendly staff. Wardrobe drier for boots and clothes after heavy rains.
- Arvandee (7/5): Traditional and beautiful location with friendly staff - The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful even given that language was difficult at times, but google translate will get you through most conversations. We flew in and were met at the airport by their pick up staff, but be aware that check in is a strict 3pm time regardless of when you arrive, they will hold your luggage and you can spend the time exploring the area. It's a lovely river location with views either on the river side or the mountain side, we had a mountain view and loved waking up and being able to see the greenery outside the window. We travelled in rainy season, so expect lots of clouds, and rainy days during this time, very grateful for the sneaker dryer and laundry facilities.
Breakfast was included in our stay and was generous, traditional and set us up well for the day. Unfortunately, we didn't get to eat dinner as we were mostly disorganised (you need to advise the day before if you want to dine in the following night), but we expect that the food would also be similar in quality to breakfast.
This is a traditional Japanese hotel and we chose the traditional room - futon mattress on the floor that is packed up each morning and set up each evening by staff. The onsen was clean and water nice and hot, yakuta, slippers and shampoo, etc provided. As with a lot of more rural locations in Japan, the workforce is older, but the attention to guests is spot on, we loved meeting the cleaning staff each day and having a chat as best we could and we'd be happy to stay here again.
There is a small gift shop on site and hiking gear can be hired if need be, as well as organising bento box lunches. A Co-op store is a short walk away where you can pick up snacks and light meals and anything you may have forgotten and there is a bus stop out the front to take you to local areas. If you want to explore the island further, the hotel can help arrange car hire, or in our case we hired a local guide to take us around the island and go hiking. The whole place is a little tired and could do with a bit of renovation. The futons were not as comfortable as other places we stayed and are probably due to be replaced, but it's not the most uncomfortable thing we've ever slept on.
- Ágnes (9/5): Value for money - Very nice staff even if they did not speak English. Beautiful view and very good location.
- Felix (8/5): Very good - The public bath was very nice
- Joel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sut (7/5): Good - Location and price The building is quite old
- Francis (8/5): Very good -
- Yang (10/5): Pretty enjoyable and unforgettable - Very friendly staffs. Useful suggestions and a friendly ride to the local drug store.
Beautiful riverside view and a good public bath Bugs inside the room
- Julie (7/5): Good -
- Kaleb (10/5): Beautiful Tradition Japanese Stay - We had an amazing stay at Tashiro Annex! The traditional Japanese room, baths, and food were exceptional and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were very helpful - even though they don't speak English we were able to communicate with sign language and google translate and they were always willing to accommodate us. We are both vegetarians and this wasn't a problem as the chef prepared special vegetarian food for us every day. They also prepared a Bento breakfast box at 4am when we left early to go hiking! You do notice that the facilities are slightly older, but everything is clean and well maintained so that isn't a problem either. I highly recommend a stay here to anybody visiting Yakushima and looking for a traditional Japanese experience! Nothing
- Yafit (9/5): Superb - An authentic Japanese hotel, on the river. Had half board which is recommended. The staff was very nice and helpful, and there was a free shuttle to the airport. Everything was nice
