Guest Reviews
- Alex (10/5): Great location, lovely knowledgable staff, beautiful hotel - Lovely staff, beautiful property It was clean, well maintained and querky
- Chloe (10/5): Comfortable beds, big beds, lovely staff, lovely food facilities, lovely toilet facilities etc - The rooms are lovely and spacious, including a spacious bathroom with a bathtub and a shower all in one! I loved the property.
- Butler (7/5): Mainly enjoyable - Location is good . Bins outside being emptied at 0530 .
- Marie (8/5): Really helpful staff - Great value room
- Elizabeth (8/5): -
- Shu (10/5): - As someone who moved to the UK 3 years ago, this was probably one of the coolest accommodations I've stayed in within the UK. The building is an old Tudor building with slanted floors and walls, which was very charming. We spent part of the evening downstairs in the pub and really enjoyed the atmosphere. This felt like great value, given the affordable price.
Location was great - short walking distance to the town centre.
There was parking available on site.
Overall, we had a lovely stay.
- Samantha (7/5): - Location and building good Bed was uncomfortable but the breakfast was fab!
- Frost (5/5): -
- Paul (8/5): Great location between downtown and Quayside - Great location and value Shower constantly gave blasts of scalding water
- STEPHEN (8/5): Pleasent but may give other places a look at next time - Didn't have breakfast. Meal in the evening was ok Prices in the bar were more expensive than in town.
- raymond (9/5): Large, modern rooms in a characteristic hotel.. - Large, light matrimonial. Everything to hand and in good order. Nothing.
- AnarchyTravel (8/5): Nice Place to Overnight in Exeter - White Hart is a pub/hotel located fairly close to the Exeter cathedral and an easy walk from the riverside nightlife area. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the Wi-Fi is good. I didn't have a car, but there is plenty of free parking at the hotel for those that do. I didn't see that much reason to go to Exeter, but if it's part of your travel plans, then White Hart is a good place to overnight.
- Isabelle (7/5): -
- Ella (9/5): Comfortable stay - Comfortable beds and pillows
Good coffee
The period building
Convenient Parking
Proximity to the city centre and the cathedral Somewhat noisy plumbing
Steep stairs

- Justyn (7/5): I have already booked to stay again so obviously enjoy the hotel. - Clean and the bed was very comfortable. Great location. I really like staying there. The reason why I didn’t score higher was the shower. Clean towels and enough toilet paper, but the shower was flunctuating between cold and piping hot without any middle ground for an enjoyable shower, regardless of adjusting the shower controls.
- michael (6/5): -
- JOHN (7/5): Will stay again as the pluses outweighed the snoring and we were just unlucky ! - Great location, really comfortable bed and decent price Chap next door snoring so loudly the walls seemed to reverberate ! Had to use ear plugs !
- rosellen (8/5): I answered them - N/A N/A

- barrance (10/5): Reunion Exeter - Nice hotel friendly staff and in the centre of town. Didn't like being charged twice as booking .com took payment and when I booked in the hotel took another payment and took 4 hours to refund my money
- owens (8/5): - Lovely quaint room and good customer service. Kelly at reception was very pleasant and helped us make check in smooth as possible.
- Patricia (9/5): - We stay here every year, and it's good and comfortable. We would not return if it wasnt The slow lift
- James (8/5): -
- Karen (8/5): Exeter trip - Location, building. Rooms comfy. Staff very friendly Room a bit too warm at night. Unable to open a window
- george (10/5): -

- Alec Harden-Henry (6/5): Shower is virtually unusable - The staff are lovely, the rooms are comfortable considering the price, internet is good and the coffee bags in the room are quite good. When using the shower, roughly every 12 or 13 seconds the water goes scalding hot for a second or two and then returns to normal temperature. This means you have to use the shower on a low temperature so that when it rises, it doesn't burn your skin.
I raised this the last time I stayed, 3 weeks previously and was told it had been raised by a number of guests that same day. Having returned, I expected it to be fixed but was informed that no one has even come to look at the issue yet.
Not a great experience considering this is a very basic amenity.
- Pierre-André (8/5): - L’hôtel est bien situé, la découverte de la ville peut s’y faire à pied. Le WIFI mériterait une amélioration (trop lent)!
- Alec Harden-Henry (6/5): -
- Anya (9/5): -
- Emma (7/5): -
- Silver (10/5): Excellent value for money - Room, location and on site bar Having to pay for the parking, it should be included as a staying guest. Car parking and breakfast used to be included as part of your stay, but changed a few years ago.
- Chris (9/5): -
- Andrea (9/5): -
- David (8/5): It was conveniently located for me and the facilities were more than adequate. - The Receptionist helpfully arranged a change of room. The onsite parking was very important for me.
- Rosalind (8/5): On the whole my stay was satisfactory. - Breakfast good, single bed comfortable, room clean. The outlook, the car park was not good. The voice in the lift was extremely irritating.
- Polina (10/5): A great option for both work and rest, especially if you value calm surroundings, cleanliness, and functional comfort. - Very nice location, very clean, comfortable, and spacious room with everything I needed for a productive working week. The atmosphere was quiet, with a beautiful and simple design that made it easy to relax and focus.
The room had everything I needed, and the overall experience felt smooth and well thought out. The breakfast and restaurant food were consistently good — light, balanced, and energising without feeling heavy or uncomfortable. tThe shampoo and body wash dispensers were not very practical and required many presses to get enough product. The room also did not include conditioner. However, since the weather in early May was mild, this did not cause any inconvenience.
- Alina (7/5): -
- paul (8/5): Very pleasant and convenient - Breakfast and dinner excellent with obliging service. Room and location good Awkward location of hangers in bedroom. Tea service not refreshed after one day's use
- Mel (7/5): -
- Bruce (10/5): -
- Sue (9/5): I have been staying here for years and would definitely recommend - The room was nicely decorated, quite modern and the beds were comfy. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional, especially Max who was working on reception. The hotel is perfectly situated between the quayside and the town and the car park was subsidised for hotel guests and it is a beautiful historic buliding The hot water in the shower was scalding hot with no way of turning it down but when we raised this to Max he apologised and explained he would look into it. Also the continental breakfast was very basic and disappointing. However, the cooked breakfast was lovely.
- Paul (8/5): Another good stay at this very convenient hotel in central Exeter. - Good room in a good hotel in central Exeter. Some street noise late at night.
- Jowett (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Inger (8/5): -
- Ylva (8/5): -
- Roy (10/5): Great location. - Great location, plenty of parking. Good restaurant and bar. Extremely comfy rooms , spotlessly clean and welli decorated. Staff were brilliant especially Charlotte and Nigel who were friendly and efficient.. The good in The restaurant was top notch. There was nothing to dislike.
- Sarah (10/5): - Lovely comfortable bed, plenty of room to move around the room too.
Fab breakfast and discounted parking a bonus. Bar and restaurant staff very happy and helpful
- sarah (8/5): - Staff location cleanliness and car park Room was small bathroom tired
- Matthew (10/5): Loved it will be back…next weekend actually - Everything Nothing
- Elaro (8/5): - Cosy place to stay! Very central location and pleasant staff. Room was connected by a thin door to another room which meant it lacked a bit of privacy.
- Paula (9/5): - Location and staff were friendly, food was amazing Bed was too hard for us, would prefer softer mattress
Needed more lighting as the little lamps didn't work
- Matthew (8/5): This hotel is conveniently located, with recently upgraded facilities and a good breakfast. - There has been investment in the hotel since I last stayed there, and an uplift in the facilities. The breakfast and food service is good, and the convenience of the location is exceptional. My room was a little smaller than I expected, but still good value for the price. The cost of parking has increased since my last stay, but it is still helpful to be able to park at the hotel.

- Claudia (8/5): -
- Donna (10/5): - Lovely hotel and a nice breakfast
- Mel (8/5): -
- john (8/5): -
- Davide (8/5): Very nice structure that offers a lot of services - Location, comfortable beds, breakfast and pub downstairs Problems with the water temperature in the shower
- Raymond (8/5): Fabulous old building with friendly staff - Amazing old building giving a period feel. We booked early and got the fabulous suite with its amazing bathroom, with the standalone bath. Powerful shower and high end shampoo and shower gels. Comfortable 4 poster bed too. Only felt the beer was overpriced, given that there’s a Spoonies across the road.
- Quincyjones86 (9/5): Weekend break - Great location and good value breakfast. Room comfortable and the facilities fine. Shower temperature a bit temperamental but fine otherwise
- Marie Claude (5/5): -
- Michael (9/5): Great stay in Exter. - Great old property with great character. Comfortable accommodation, clean and vale for money. Great breakfast. Staff lovely. Rooms clean and had everything you’d need.
- Carolyn (8/5): - Very quiet. Comfortable bed. Ideal for getting into town.
- Mel (8/5): -
- Roy (10/5): Place to stay in Exeter - Ideal location plenty of parking. Lovely clean and comfortable rooms. Great on site bar and restaurant. Everything was great
- Jason (8/5): -
- Darren (8/5): Rooms in a pub not a hotel but nice enough - Nice clean single room with good facilities. Friendly check in and a short walk to some nice places in Exeter such as the quay. Great value and would stay here again. Not negatives from me just thing to bear in mind. They are rooms above a pub so during opening time, you hear the activity of the pub below. Not intrusive but not bone quiet either. There is a lot of upping and downing of narrow stairs to get to the rooms which is quite a convulated route from reception especially if you have luggage. Think about this if your mobility is not good.
The walls are paper thin. I was woken in the morning by the neighbouring rooms shower which have been 6ft away from my bed.
I didnt eat in the pub itself - the meals were a bit pricey and they only had one cask ale on (for a Marstons, I would have expected more).
- Richard (9/5): - check in at 4 - 5 pm shower and change then go to my event , sleep from 2am till 10.30 prefect. Rooms clean rooms comfy , i stay here 6 times a year id like to be offered discount, i book - 20 rooms plus per a year and could be more but i have no incentive to point my 200 plus customers at your hotel x
- Rebecca (10/5): -
- Elaine (7/5): - Gorgeous place, staff were really lovely. Especially Mia Need more Yorkshire tea bags in the room :)
- Adrian (7/5): -
- Jayne (9/5): -
- Sheader (10/5): -
- ANGELA (8/5): -
- Alan (4/5): - The closeness to where I wanted to be. Bed was comfortable, but no choice of pillows. I had the unfortunate experience of having a drink at the bar, where a group of men/women in their late 20's, early 30's, being extremely vocal, effing and blinding and creating an intimidatory environment/atmosphere. A person standing at the bar, had a word, but none of the staff intervened. I felt very uncomfortable, finished my wine, and hurriedly left. As forementioned already. However, I had a problem to park, settled in room, and headed back to car park. Fortunately there was 1 vacant place. I paid the max I could, but time ran out at 5-20 the following am. I left at 7-00. I hope I'm not penalised. There should be either a 24hr option, or the option to pay for the hours you're going to be there.
- Dimitrios (8/5): Short break in Exeter - Location and friendly staff , breakfast and large clean rooms Can be a bit noisy at nights as the city is full of university students roaming at nights
- Manuel (8/5): -
- Steve (10/5): -
- WaveyDavey (9/5): Nice pub stay near Exeter city centre - Clean, good sized rooms, friendly hotel staff, quiet and in a good location. Lift didn't work when we arrived so had to lug a heavy case up 4 flights of stairs with no offer to help. It was fixed later but I think it's a regular issue. Car park was nearly full but we did find a space. Quite a few poorly parked builders vans taking up 2 spaces.
- Υorgos (9/5): - Excellent location!
- Tony (7/5): Overall very good could do better - The room was great The breakfast was very poor a good selection of very poor quality food it was all very tastless and bland the toast was just warm hard bread the eggs over cooked
- Pretorius (8/5): -
- Lesley (9/5): -
- kera (10/5): Perfect location. Will definitely be staying here again when we next come to Exeter! Lovely rooms aswell - Perfect location!
- sheila (8/5): - Quirky, central
- Peter Tree (10/5): -
- Arthur (9/5): A perfectly fine place to stay. - Location was excellent. Their car park was run by another entity, who charged £10. But I preferred that convenience rather than search for a parking spot elsewhere Just a little niggle. I like to stay in accomodation with an attached bar. I left friends early in town so I could finish with a nightcap in at my accomodation. It never occured to me that they would close the bar at 10.30 , or that I couldn't be served as a guest. Perhaps they could advertise their opening times more prominently
- helen (9/5): Great stay. Lovely people. Great location for cathedral area. - Brilliant reception lady. So pleasant, knowledgable and kind. Special breakfast menu - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Was perfect. A credit to the chef.
Also cereals, croissants, full cooked, berries/yoghurt, toast and jams.
I requested tea in a teapot, no probs. Was v grateful.
Lift worked.
Room great. Everything I needed, nice clean carpet.
Nice toiletries, good linen and towels. Shower temperature was a little disconcerting at first, variable. But actually pleasant once I'd figured it out.
Something quirky, not a dislike..
- tina (7/5): -
- Christopher (8/5): Lovely city, lovely hotel, food good in hotel I would recommend it - White Hart is very well located to city
centre with just a 2 to 3 hundred meters uphill walk and you are there All good but as with so many hotels staff trying to do multiple jobs so expect to find reception unnamed.
Carpark charging was a bit of a b…s up
no charge on invoice so told reception and was told not to worry about it, then spoke to another member of team Nigel
who seem to now what he was doing and he applied charges to prevent me getting a fine as I believe it’s counsel run.
- Sightseer07375283743 (8/5): Good food at this lovely old
Hotel in the city centre - A visit to the haunted hotel which is the White Heart for some munch. Impressed, really good food all round, no long waits, and a very nice place to sit and eat. Maybe could have done with a few more chips with the fish but very well cooked and hit the spot. Not sure why sauces are served in little ramekins either would just prefer the bottle at the table! A solid 8/10. Also if you are thinking of going go on to their website for a discount code they are offering 40% off all mains until the 10th May 2026, all day every day (not bank hols weekend)
- Ronald (7/5): We enjoyed our stay and the location was good. - It was ok . The waiter had a bad attitude so we didn't eat there again 😒.
