Guest Reviews
- Jim (7/5): -
- Karen (8/5): - Room was lovely and clean and very comfortable.
Dinner menu was good and food was tasty. Breakfast was basic and lacked imagination .
Shower was barely warm even on high setting.
- Jillian (9/5): Very enjoyable stay, made our little dog welcome. - Very good choice at breakfast, could not better location, large car park. All good.
- Patricia (5/5): -
- fiona (10/5): -
- Hugh (9/5): - Lovely small hotel, real charm and welcoming. Staff very good, food very good. Nice bar area. Nothing really
- Roberts (8/5): -
- jade (10/5): - I turned up late on my bicycle in bad weather and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Really lovely, warm room.
- Linda (6/5): Character Property in a great location - Location.
Friendly and very hardworking staff.
Great evening meal.
Character property. Tired decor. Not the cleanest. Underside of the toilet seat hadn’t been cleaned. Yes I should have said something and I’m sure they would have put it right but we were tired after a long day and didn’t want to be disturbed. We do feel it was overpriced compared to other hotels we’d stayed in on NC500.
- Ian (5/5): Had lots of promise, but failed to deliver an expected level of comfort - Location The bed was the most uncomfortable, I’ve ever slept in (or not), the pillows were cheap, thin and uncomfortable. The double bed had two thin single duvet covers. We did ask for some blankets and these were supplied promptly, but they were very strange - about 2m long and 1m wide!
You need to preorder your breakfast the night before and give a time that you want to eat. I don’t have a problem with that, and I applaud their “no waste” policy, however the food had obviously been sitting under a warmer for a while, so food was hard and actually only luke warm.
I would stay again, but only because of the location
- Philippe (10/5): Tope - Le personnel Rien
- Andrew (8/5): Very comfortable, excellent breakfast. - Very comfortable, excellent breakfast. Nil
- Christopher (10/5): Great choice for a comfortable stay - Fantastic location the food was excellent the room was clean and comfortable, we enjoyed our stay very much Nothing
- David (9/5): Very enjoyable - A really friendly place, excellent food at a reasonable price. We hope to be able to visit again N/an
- David (8/5): Comfortable, friendly and great location. -
- Janet (7/5): After reading some reviews it was better than expected but I thought it was overpriced - The receptionist was extremely pleasant and the room was fine The breakfast was very average
- Alison (7/5): -
- Dario (9/5): -
- Scott (10/5): Best hotel in the NW! - Everything…love this place! Nothing
- alan (8/5): - Location
- Mr Alistair C (8/5): - In a great location and close to the harbour. We enjoyed our meals in the bar/restaurant. The evening meals were of a good quality. We enjoyed our stay and will probably stay again.
- Barry (8/5): Was a pleasant stay staff were friendly - Only stayed the 1 night but it seemed nice Nothing
- Appleby (9/5): -
- Rosemary (7/5): -
- alan (4/5): - Hotel in need of some maintenance, rooms a little shabby
Meals were dissapointing
Hotel expensive for what it is
- Hamid Majid (5/5): - Short of staff three ladies in the evening were struggling reception of guests, dinner in three areas of hotel and only one lady on the breakfast service
- Xhavit (5/5): - I stayed 1 night and it is nothing to like. When you walk in buildings the cooking smell it's disgusting which puts you off and the facilities are not that clean.
- Taft (3/5): Poor value for money - Good location. Generally the room was awful, very dated and the bedlinen looked like something out of the 70s. The breakfast was dreadful. Poached eggs which felt like hard boiled eggs. Very little choice of cereals.
Extremely poor value for money.
- Michael (6/5): -
- Karen (7/5): Enjoyed our stay but the pre-paid breakfast was the most disappointing aspect. - Location is great and bar was nice. Restaurant was very good, 3 out of 4 meals were excellent (bizarrely the basic chicken burger was poor compared to beautiful fish dishes and venison stew). Bar and restaurant staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast set up and quality was poor. Don’t think the chef works mornings.
- Matthew (8/5): Pretty good - Decent hotel. The food was good in the evening, though breakfast was a little underwhelming. The rooms are dated and would definitely benefit from a bit of investment, however the staff were extremely helpful and the area is fantastic.
- Christophe (8/5): -

- Ian (10/5): - Incredible inn and very accommodating to.our young family. Tremendous scenery.
- Nicholas (5/5): - Location, staff, good bar. Good food Price of food, having to pay £15 for the dog. No coffee machine at breakfast. Cardboard cups instead of China ones in the room.
- Elisa (9/5): - The restaurant and the cosy atmosphere Small bathroom
- John (7/5): Great location but very expensive for whats on offer, - Great location, great breakfast Too expensive for what is on offer. Quite quaint but the hotel is in need of a refurb. It’s like going back to the 1970’s.
- Debbie (8/5): Friendly comfortable stay - Location is great and staff were really friendly and helpful we can’t pick out everyone as didn’t get names , but Danielle was exceptional as was the bar man and lady ( ex teacher serving breakfast) our room was really nice our first evening meal was good second night bit disappointed ( but ok ) On the whole it was really good felt comfortable it could probably do with a bit of tlc but I would definitely stay again
- Kathleen (4/5): - The bar staff were helpful with a smile Breakfast was dreadful, full in a form before 7pm. Then, in the morning, they had some of the party's food order not always correct, but it was food of caring degrees of edability. Scrambled egg arrived. Eventually, it was egg rocks. Poached were all not eaten as when you opened them, water came out over the other foods. Some people got no order 2 out of 4 in the same room. 2 got food nothing for the other 2, when asking where the other orders were, the staff members' attitude was far from helpful it was you never put in hour order form on showing picture of form taken to remind them shat they had ordered it was we do not have that form in harsh tone. Nog interested in helping we all felt we were not welcome and were aware of comments being made behind our backs. Rooms had notices not to open windows as there were wasps. All rooms had wasps in them. Bathroom are very small. 2nd morning breakfast was slightly better organised but hot food for those brave enough to try again food was cold and did not feel comfortable in saying this. Overall spoilt by breakfast and 1 breakfast staff member first day who had unfortunate way of speaking g to customers.
- Rebecca (9/5): -
- Valerie (8/5): -
- Maaike (9/5): -
- Graham (5/5): Was ok but would not return - Location Poor breakfast
Poor evening meal
- Sally (8/5): - Gairloch harbor very charming and so was the Inn, and dinner was pub style but very delicious whole Cornish sole! Breakfast was basic but ok. Staff very helpful
- nan (8/5): -
- Dye (5/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was a small room with a very small bathroom. You could hear the bathroom on the floor above.
- Christopher (6/5): - Tired and shabby was the overall appearance but in a great location. Evening meal ok and enhanced by our waitress , Danielle. Stay was by no means a disaster but could have been better.
- Judith Vermeulen (8/5): Gemoedelijke sfeervolle locatie - De sfeer.
- Lars-Erik (9/5): Fint boende. Trevlig pub - Bra boende, men bra WiFi. Underbar Haggis i restaurangen!
- Hazel (4/5): Food good, accomadation lacking. - Fine Shower should have worked properly, hot water not functioning. Would have been useful if we were told how the windiw worked, instead of thimking it faulty. Alleged double bed had 2 single quilts on, very odd. Room by freezer, generator kept me awake all night going on/off.
Excellent petit déjeuner ( en sus).
- Padilla (8/5): Une bien agréable étape. -
- Helen (7/5): -
- Stephen (3/5): Overpriced, poor facilities, dreadful breakfast, rushed dinner - generally could not recommend in any way at all. - Not much at all - very tired, unloved. Nothing
Interne organisatie is onvoldoende.
- Pierre (5/5): -
- Donald Andrew (5/5): -
- Kay (9/5): Very pleasant inn with very friendly and accommodating staff in a beautiful location - Old fashioned, rustic but very nice
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Ian (10/5): Brilliant will definitely go back - Great staff lovely situation Nothing
- Ea (9/5): -
- Vincent (10/5): -
- Marc (10/5): -
- Simon (8/5): It's a little gem. - Location, perfect for me. Staff were lovely. Breakfast was prompt and just what i asked for. I'd stay again
- NIGEL (8/5): Good stay - Rooms clean and big. Staff was friendly and the breakfast and bar food were excellent. I know you are preaching to a captive audience and it's on the NC500 but the price of the room is a tad expensive
- Nicole (7/5): Prima voor één nacht. - Vriendelijke ontvangst. Aan de hond was ook gedacht. Goede wifi ruime kamer. Rustig gelegen.
- Annette (7/5): - Old inn with atmosphere. Comfy beds good food View of car park and some staff morose.
- francoise (7/5): - Ambiance du restaurant
Personnel agréable
Bonne table Petite chambre
- Adam (7/5): Good overall but upgrade those mattresses! - The Old Inn has a real charm about it. They have modernised the parts of the building that they ought to but left plenty of the old charm in there too. The hotel offers a laundry facility which was of huge help to us after a bout of travel sickness on the way to getting there. The food was very nice and there was a good selection of drinks available. The mattresses were very uncomfortable. Not sure if that was due to age or due to being very cheap. However my wife and I both woke up with sore backs. While the staff overall were nice, the lady on check out was cold and barely uttered a word when I handed the key back.
- Terry (4/5): Not value for money. Wouldn’t go back - Nothing Poorly staffed breakfast disgusting
- Robin (7/5): - Location was good and room was comfortable and provided a dog bed in the room. Food was very good The staff seemed very rushed and stressed at times may get better as the season progresses as this was May. Breakfast had to be pre ordered the night before but still arrived only warm
- Nick (8/5): -
- Roger (6/5): - The location and the evening staff in bar and restaurant. Also, the quirky nature of the Inn. The noise from other rooms. Very small bathroom and blocked shower in one of our rooms.
Food overpriced.
Breakfast needs a total rethink in terms of service and delivery. It just does not work and although ordered the previous day one of our party went without breakfast! Chaotic and somewhat like an episode of Faulty Towers.
- John (3/5): Very disappointing. - The setting Initially we were given two ground floor rooms which were below ground level, very poorly decorated, cold and with stone floors. We asked to be moved and were moved to better rooms . The breakfast was awful and a complete shambles. Felt sorry for the young waiter who was trying his best. Food was cold, the only fruit on offer was an apple, coffee was cheap and luke warm. There were no bread rolls The meagre offering of hot food was overcooked and barely warm. A man, we assumed was probably the chef, kept popping in and out dressed in a dirty tee-shirt and looking scruffy.
Would not recommend staying here. It was massively overpriced at £174 a night.
- Lynda (6/5): - Breakfast was ordered the previous night and it was put into a heated cupboard to help oneself. The staff were very attentive about refilling empty jugs and plates. A ceiling light was not working and the door to the en-suite was very difficult to close.
- Clive (8/5): We’d go again - Location and staff and food Dated decor
- Pieter (9/5): Fijn hotel om te verblijven. - Mooie ligging. Goede slaapkamers. Goede parkeer gelegenheid. Heerlijk eten.
- Heather (10/5): - Excellent
- Laurie (7/5): -
- Linda (2/5): - The building and decor is very tired (circa 1980s), the food was poor and the despite being told that one of the diners was coeliac a meal came out with garlic bread (not gluten free) - so very poor controls in the kitchen.
Staff were friendly but grossly short-staffed. There were long waits to order drinks and to pay for food (whilst food orders were taken at the table in the restaurant, we were then required to go to the bar to pay for the food before it arrived).
Breakfast was appalling. It has to be pre-ordered the night before and "hot food" (including poached eggs) just sit in a warmer until you come down at your designated time.
- Alli (10/5): Great location, great staff, dogs really welcome - Great location, lovely rooms, really really dog friendly. Nothing
- Peter (8/5): -
- Carl (1/5): -
- Jon (2/5): - Staff shortages blamed for everything.
- Stewart (4/5): If it was a third of the price it would be too much. Very disappointing - Location, weather (I was very lucky), and the local beach was nice. Far too expensive for what was on offer, room was grubby, bathroom/shower miserable. Breakfast was the cheapest of the cheap. The coffee was the worst I've had in years. If this was ~£70 I'd be disappointed - It was £175!! But where else are you going to stay - they've got you over a barrel.
- Robert (9/5): Overall excellent location and room. Food in restaurant good service a bit random! - Excellent location, excellent room - good size and pleasant decor. Food was excellent. Service was a bit hit and miss for dinner. The breakfast was preordered but then was a buffet - made no sense!!! As a buffet it was great!
- Melonie (7/5): Gairloch - Beautiful setting. The whole place felt tired. The bathroom fan didn't work. They admitted they were short staffed.
- ELAINE (4/5): Wouldn’t stay here again - Location was good and the fact we could eat in the restaurant was good Other guests and ourselves had to wait quite a while as no one was there to check us in or show us to our rooms. Bedroom door was very difficult to lock with the key. Toilet was difficult to flush and was leaking on to floor so had to always make sure you wore shoes to go to bathroom. Breakfast was very disappointing especially as we had to preorder. Bacon was very hard and was almost unable to cut it. Only one poached egg left although we both had ordered this and only two slices of white bread left. Seemed to be only one waitress who was busy.
