Guest Reviews
- Odyssey12354142046 (2/5): Had to leave early because was so bad ! - I am most confused about previous reviews - we had a completely different experience - it was terrible and really ruined our fiji experience - we had stayed at two previous places in Fiji.
There was no running water during the day because of ‘plumbing problems’ therefore no flushing toilets, shower or tap to wash your hands during the day.
There was no bar as advertised on the booking.com website. There was no bar or option to even buy soft drinks. You were forced to drink filtered rain water. How can you advertise a bar without even having one or an option to buy soft drinks ?
There was one other couple staying at the lodge who both had food poisoning from the lodge ! I refused to eat at the lodge and didn’t eat anything for a whole 24 hours before getting the next ferry to a different island. My partner ate dinner and breakfast and ALSO got food poisoning.
The fan in the room didn’t work. The bed was foam with no mattress: I am most concerned as to why booking is still advertising this place, and most concerned with the misleading reviews stated!
Clearly something has gone categorically wrong here at this lodge and people must be warned or at least made aware of the real situation. It’s appalling. The lady tried to charged us over $850 Fijian dollars for a 5 night stay with no water during the day.
The photos advertised are very different to the ones in real life ! False advertisement !
There was only a single plug in the wall with electricity available between 6pm and 6am only.
Turns out - Others had also left early because of the bad conditions and she was also excited to leave.
It pains me to write such a negative review. And I really hope they manage to turn this around.
- Jer_J_D (8/5): Just Don’t Expect Luxury - Yeah I have to admit, this place is run down. It’s in serious need of repairs and renovations. Toilets don’t always work, water runs out several times a day, doors won’t close, you’d often see insects in the bedrooms and bathrooms… you get my drift. Still, i loved my stay here. The staff sets this place apart. Very helpful and friendly. It’s owned and run by locals, so you’d get an authentic Fijian experience. It actually felt like staying in a huge homestay. Meals are served in one huge table so you’d get to know other guests. The food was mostly fine, though if you eat a lot i’d suggest bringing snacks. There’s electricity 24/7 now cause they have solar panels. There’s free drinking water, but this is rainwater stored in a tank. You might want to bring your own drinking water if you’re not okay with this. For the record i was drinking it for four days and I didn’t get sick, neither did other guests. The location is great, right by the beach. Nacula island is probably the best one i’ve visited in the Yasawas. As long as you keep your expectations in check, as long as you don’t expect luxury and you’re willing to rough it out a bit, you’ll have a great time here.
- Happy246 (4/5): Um....🥴 - Agree mostly with 'Eric, the bananaman' from Sept 2019 review, re management and facilities. It appears nothing much has changed in 5 years, tbh!! It is "not a resort", we are warned in your info. However, for the money you harvest from your guests, and compared to similar places, it's not really acceptable to use as an excuse for lack of basic Comfort & Care.
The only upside is that electricity is mostly available due to solar upgrades. Cold showers only are available. Shower heads & water pressure varied widely from convos with other travellers, (mostly poor).
Breakfasts the best meal of the day, but not much fruit offered. Dinners were endured - or avoided. Repetitive & bony proteins.
Dogs vs. cat fight in our Bure was not pretty.
Tip for management: Treat us all (ie. your paying guests) as you would like to be treated!!
We felt like an inconvenience most of the time. Work on your famous Fijian hospitality folks, don't just treat us like another Resource to be Harvested!! 🥥
The only staff member who stood out was Joe, the assistant boatman. He absolutely made our stay memorable. 👍🏻 Vinaka Joe.
- John (8/5): - Generator noise
- valentinw2024 (10/5): Absolutely Gorgeous! - If you’re expecting a polished, all-inclusive spa experience, this isn’t the place—and that’s the point. Don’t come here looking for luxury. This is an eco-lodge on a remote Yasawa island, and it’s genuinely off the beaten path. Getting here is half the adventure (about five hours by boat), and the remoteness means things can’t always work like they do in a city hotel.
What you do get is something special: a small, caring team who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They’re incredibly accommodating, planning daily activities based on the ever-changing Fijian weather. When forecasts threatened endless rain, I lucked out with sun most days.
One of the highlights is the reef just offshore—teeming with marine life. It’s about a 20-minute swim if you’re confident in the water. My tip: bring your own fins and mask from Nadi if you want to be sure you’ll have them. They lend out gear, but supplies can run short when everyone wants to snorkel.
Activities range from hikes to village visits to ocean trips, and they’re open to helping set up things not listed on their board. Don’t hesitate to ask. I found the local village absolutely worth exploring. The reef itself? Amazing. Sharks up to 3 meters, stingrays, squids, and vibrant coral.
A few things here are basic or imperfect—that’s just the reality of a remote eco-lodge. But what matters is the spirit of the place. People genuinely care, and you feel it. The team, the village, even the resident dogs and cat make you feel at home (give them some love from me!).
I spent five weeks here and met solo travelers, couples, and groups—everyone seemed to find their rhythm. If you want fancy cocktails at sunset in an infinity pool, pick a resort (and pay for it). If you want warmth, authenticity, and natural beauty, this is the place.
Big thanks to everyone there. I’ll carry these memories for a long time. Book while you can—you won’t regret it.
- 909erichs (10/5): Amazing Place with Amazing People! Simple accommodation and simple food, but worth visiting and staying. - The place (location) is amazing with amazing people running the lodge. We were so lucky to have found this gem.
Accommodation is simple but absolutely worth it. The trips offered by the lodge are definitely worth doing.
Already planning our return as a family.
As Kara and Nai said, don’t expect a resort but we felt better looked after than if we were at one.
Thank you definitely recommend it.
- Hannah (8/5): - I really don’t want to say anything bad about this place because the people were truly fantastic but this was not my favorite stay. In terms of safety (especially being a solo female traveler) I felt very safe. If you’re looking for a secluded and gorgeous spot this is definitely it. The cabins are not great but the location really does make up for it. I did see the biggest spider of my life due to a hole in the bathroom that really threw me off in terms of this stay though. The boys of the owner thankfully came and got it out but as someone who is not the greatest with big bugs, I would recommend finding a more secure stay if that is an issue for you. There were ants everywhere and there wasn’t a fan until I asked for one which made it very difficult to sleep. The electricity is only on at night which is fine but it’s a lot when it’s super hot and there is no fan. The food was always good but you didn’t get any option on what you ate. You got what you got. You also sit with everyone else who is staying at the place at a big table so if you are looking to have your own space or be solo this isn’t the best place for it. Personally I liked it though because it opened conversation with new people. The location really is breathtaking. Everyone is so nice and they have the cutest dogs and one eyed cat!
- Leandro Ramiro (10/5): - When you book they will tell you that this is not a resort but it is really good. Did not understand why they wrote that to me. You have a huge house just for yourself with amazing garden or beach view. You have a fan mosquito net and some dimmers to make the light less strong in case you want to have it more chill and romantic. The family is very friendly. Clean and tidy. I had flowers in the house when arrived and they made sure we had a great stay. Activities are okay. There is a rock about 50m out of the beach and there is nice snorkelling with corrals.
- Zane (4/5): - This place is not well maintained & the food is quite poor on both quality & quantity.
- Marian (8/5): Nice spot - Beautiful setting. Cleaning need to be done .
- NorthStar49835351400 (2/5): Poor communication - I did not want to write a review but I decided this would be helpful for future guests. We are a family with kids from Canada traveling for the first time to Fiji. This is a 13 hour flight. We booked a 2 weeks stay in late 2022 for travel in early 2023. With a couple of weeks left for our arrival in Fiji they decided to cancel our booking with no explanation or no alternative means of accomodation. It was the worse experience ever, trying to find a budget accommodation in Fiji on short notice. When we asked for an explination or other options they did not care to answer. We were very fortunate to have another property step up and accomodate us on short notice.
Thank you
- Marlene (6/5): food not good - The accommodation was ok but the food could be improved. In Fiji I do not like to eat rice every day. That is not traditional fijian food. They have kumala, cassave, dalo, breatfruit which is much better and healthier. I also prefer to eat my chicken meat without bones.
- juanbM9477BY (2/5): Run - The place was absolutely disgusting. The bathrooms are uninhabitable. They are actually extremely gross. The photos are incredibly misleading on all of the vacation sites. The rooms are full of bugs. There is no WI-FI and the power is shut off to the place from 6am to 6pm. If you are going to Fiji for vacation, just pay extra for a nice resort. Staying at this place is not worth it just to see Fiji. To enjoy Fiji, you have to spend a little more and go to a decent resort like Mantaray.
- Gaetan (4/5): - Nice property! Shower and electricity doesn’t work…
Staff really sweet !
- Nicolette (4/5): - Not at all as described or as photos!
We didn't expect anything & knew this isn't a resort etc. however description & photos on Expedia are simply untrue.
Currently cabins, main area, 'bar' looked nothing like this. The photos of the food? 4 days. Instant coffee, 3 pieces of toast pp, communal butter, strawberry jam each day (8-9am). You eat what you are given on your plate. Lunch & dinner was $20 per person per meal and was the same EACH time. A plate with: rice, a pile of boiled cabbage & carrots (often from the day or night before) a boiled root vegetable & either processed sausage or egg omelette. Once fish. Once a Lovo (earth oven) which was the above plus chicken. As per the description, there is no: grocery store, laundry, restaurant, drinks, in-room Wifi or wifi of any kind, no TV, bottle water, toiletries, fan, hair dryer. Did have cockroaches. You may or may not have a working shower, toilet or any kayaks. We are not fussy & even with all that would have been happy but be aware that there is no 'on the beach' snorkling here or friendly, caring staff, so there is nothing to do other than paid trips (2 choices), weather dependent. It's cheap, but the ferry to get there takes 5 hrs & is easily twice as expensive as a 5 day stay in the 'best' hut. What we ended up spending on transport, trips & food could have easily bought us a much nicer place with snorkling out front anywhere else. Why is the description and photos here so misleading? What a shame.
- Curious38904411803 (2/5): Disgusting - FALSE ADVERTISING!
Host was only money hungry. Waited 2 hours for our room to be ready which was disgustingly dirty. Toilet wasn’t connected to the floor and leaking all over the tiles. Bathroom looked like it had never been cleaned. Dinner was awful, overcooked and overpriced. No other food on offer, not even snacks. NO SNACKS, NO BOTTLED WATER, NO SOFT DRINK. Staff hadn’t made a supply run and only returned with expensive speakers and beer. Place is CASH ONLY, with no communication of such. No ceiling fan, cables hanging out of the ceiling from where ceiling fan had previously been. Pedestal fan broken. Lights were not working at night, had to use our torch. Booked in for 2 nights, left first thing the next morning.
Will not be returning.
- Dan (10/5): - Very nice stay. Very nice staff. They have a boat and arrange trips to snorkeling spots.
- Coreena (6/5): - The little tender boat that came to collect us broke down about 5 minutes after getting us so we were left stranded in the very hot, humid conditions. He fixed it and we got going again for about another 2 minutes then ran out of fuel. He took out his phone, then put it away and asked if any of us had mobile. We didn't bother with sim cards as we were using this holiday to unplug, but fortunately the other passengers had data so were able to contact the lodge using whatsapp and let them know we were stranded. They then sent another boat to tow us, but it took about 30 minutes. When we arrived, they claimed not to have our booking. Fortunately I had the confirmation printed off and they had plenty of room to accommodate us. Another couple staying said the same thing happened to them. I think only the Air BnB bookings go through. It was almost 2pm and we were starving. They offered us lunch and then said the chef had gone home but we could go to the tea house at 3:30pm to get some cake. There's nothing else available. We were also told the afternoon activities get organised the day before so we missed those. As the following day was Sunday their church day, there would be no activities then either. They had such a good write up including nightly entertainment and lots of daily activities available. I don't know if it was bad timing, but we got almost none of this. Location was incredibly quiet, secluded & beautiful though. Bure was basic; a hose for a shower and flushing toilet
- Dominic (6/5): - Dissapointing food, the staff seemed very unmotivated. We tried multiple times to do a activity but the staff repeatedly forgot and rescheduled untill we gave up.
- Anita (10/5): - Really basic accommodation but it is absolute beachfront and all bed linen is freshly washed. It's such a different experience here from the resorts so as long as you're not expecting 5 stars, you will hopefully love it as much as we did. The staff are so happy, funny and friendly. Their village and the locals there are lovely. You can have long, lazy days around your cabin or organise adventures nearby such as the caves. It's great to share meal times with the other guests and to chat about everyone's experiences. The boys love to party and are so much fun!!! We loved it!!!!
- Daire (10/5): - Loved the family and staff gorgeous location.
Bathrooms need a bit of attention but its very cheap so cant really expect it all.
- Martine Daelin (8/5): - Just left after staying around 4 days at safe landing! Most likely the best trip of my life!!! The staff were excellent, so friendly and kind. They were so excellent, answering so many various questions we had about fiji and about what life in fiji is like. Activities were amazing and catered to what us ( the guests) wanted to do. The space the lodge is on is gorgeous, secluded and pristine. The water is crystal clear and quite shallow for a while which makes it nice for snorkeling further out. Lots of hammocks around the property perfect for reading on. Food was great too, big portions and interesting meals. The lodge is super social, a smaller lodge which is nice you get to know the other guests there quite well and it is like a little community. Clear that this place has been hit because of covid but still amazing stay, exactly what I excepted for an eco lodge. Excited to come back and see all the staff locations again and how to develops post pandemic! While we stayed there we got super close with another group guests who were staying and we’re able to do a lot of activities and eat meals with them every day which was awesome. Made some great connections. I can’t recommend this place more, it’s not an expensive resort but better due to the personal connections and relaxation realness of this place. Thank you so much to all the staff for making our visit so amazing, hope to be back ASAP
- penelope (10/5): LOVED it - A wonderful place to stay with an amazing family, beauful beach and island, supurb food, thank you so much, it was heavenly! soto tali!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Dreadful. This beautiful location could be so much more if only the staff would do some work. Wrong room on the first night, no bed linen, then no towels the next day when we moved to our correct room, food choice was non existent and the service was horrific, grown adults treated like we were on a school camp. When we tried to get food from other establishments, when they new where we were staying they refused us service. We booked for 3 nights and only just coped with staying for 2.
- KDWAK (10/5): Remote Island Stay - We took Seabus to Nacula Island on a very windy day. It was great to come ashore and be greeted by such friendly people. Our bungalow on the beach had fantasic ocean views and a nice little patio area to sit on. There was a hammock right in front too. The food was good expect fish, rice, and root vegetables. Breakfast was usually pancakes. The natural beauty of the area is just amazing. The other guests at the resort were friendly and we enjoyed conversations with all of them at meals. It was a very relaxing stay and we would go back.
- Tracyktn (10/5): Slice of Paradise - We were a little concerned with some of reviews we read ahead of time. We were amazed upon arrival at what a fantastic place this is. The location is on the beach with beautiful hues of blue water, white sand beach, palm trees and hammocks. We pretty much had this gorgeous beach to ourselves, it was pure paradise. Our family cabin was comfortable for 4 of us, there are screens on windows so we didn't have any issues with bugs. There is a lock on the door and we felt very safe. The meals were good and they catered to our special diet. Breakfast was included while lunch and dinner cost $20FD per person. You do not order from a menu they just serve a pre-set meal. Our hosts were wonderful as well the other guests at the property. This is not a big fancy resort, but is comfortable and very affordable. It is important to know that there is no electricity during daytime, only at night. There is no air conditioning, but was not an issue with windows open as we had a good breeze. There is no hot water, but no problem since weather is so warm the water temperature was fine. It is a long boat ride to the resort on either the Seabus or Yasawa Flyer but totally worth it. They do offer free use of kayaks, Church Visit on Sunday and there are hiking trails. We did the paid snorkel trip to Blue Lagoon which was nice. We really enjoyed our short visit and hope to go back again. Don't miss out on this hidden gem!
- H4614GPdenniss (10/5): Fantastic location - We have just had Christmas and New Year at Safe Landing eco lodge. This is not a "pamper palace", it is basic, clean accommodation for all pockets, it is directly onto a great beach with easy swimming in shallow water to reefs for snorkeling, it provides great value trips, fishing, reef visits and snorkeling, inter island transport, lessons on language, coconuts, canoeing and so much more. The staff are lovely and helpful. Drinks can be bought cold from the fridge, or filtered water is free. Our bure had a shower and loo and was perfect for our needs. We loved every moment. The breakfast can be a bit monotonous as it was pancakes most days, but there is unlimited coffee, cereal and fruit with most meals. The staff came out to sing us off the Island which brought a lump to our throat. Loved it and would not hesitate to go back.
- W382HKjulien (10/5): Awesome place - Really wished we had booked longer here. Stayed 2 nights and got to participate in lots of activities. Loved the bungalows on the beach, lazing in the hammocks, snorkelling and our own private beach. The staff were lovely and the food was yum! I really enjoyed our visit to the village and meeting the chief. It’s a great location as it’s not too far from the caves, blue lagoon and other great spots. We did a hike on the island where the views were amazing.
- Fleurciuri (10/5): Best place to be in the Yasawa - If you're looking for beautiful beaches, beautiful and warm people and having fun, this place is the best place to go in the Yasawa.
All the staff is very friendly and helpful, Tima and Naomi will make sure that your rooms are clean and welcoming and prepare great breakfast every morning. Nai and dodo will greet you with their warm Fijian hearts and help with anything you need. Chef Tevita will make delicious meals for your lunch and dinner. Bis and Malo will make you enjoy your journey for any activities that you choose.
Plenty things to do, snorkelling, volley-ball, reef hopping, discover the Sawa-I-Lau caves, fishing, coconut demo, medicine lessons, enjoying the most beautiful beaches of the Yasawa and many more... You won't regret your stay in Safe landing Resort.
Don't hesitate you'll have such an amazing stay!!
- BLACKJAV (6/5): Nice setting for a budget resort. A little bit rundown but with plenty of potencial. - The arrival is beautiful, a beach second only to the blue lagoons (the real blue lagoon and the blue lagoon resort beach) and a very nice setting.
The conforts are austere, very simple bungalows with cold water and spartan decor, a little bit rundown like it was better and decayed with time although it wasn't unclean. A restaurant/bar simple but enjoyable in front of another beach wit a nice sunset.
Good activities and fairly priced.
On the con side, very simple and uninteresting food, cheap but no fijian at all. Staff noy unkind but sometimes absent, Comparing with other experiences, the idea that in here you feel less like family and more like a client, not bad but less good.
On the pros, apart from the paying activities, kayaks for free and an island beautiful as any other
- Erip95ka (4/5): Nice place but not really good service - The place was nice and clean.
They are well organized about activities.
Food was okay, we had pancakes every single morning ( a bit tiring if you stay more than 3 nights) not much fruits. We wished we had more variety of food and more fish instead of chicken.
The owners were really nice to us, asking questions and making sure we were okay. But they lady who was serving us at the table didn’t offer a good service. I felt she almost wanted to kicked us out.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Safe landing was as advertised, and was great for my 84 year old mother, my daughter and my Grandchildren to have a relaxing holiday. The Bures are in need of renovation, and the water in the bathroom is cold - but thats OK, as Fiji is so lovely and warm. The staff were welcoming and friendly, helping my mum in and out of the long boat for the Ferry transfers.
The food was a bit limited, breakfast and lunch were the same each day with minor variations, and Dinner was varied, but there was always plenty and we didnt go hungry!
The snokelling off the beach is a bit average - you have to walk or swim a fair way out at low tide, but there are kayaks to use if you prefer. The Village is close by, and they welcomed us for a visit. There are plenty of places to walk or hike on the Island if you like, or hammocks to lie in and relax.
- LBthekiwi (8/5): Quiet and pretty - I stayed in a beachfront bungalow for 4 nights and would stay again.
Beach is lovely with clear water and still has thigh-high water to swim in at low tide. Bungalows are basic but nice. Great hammocks for relaxing in the shade. Nice and quiet as only have electricity in bungalows at night.
Staff are very relaxed and friendly. Food is fine - there were pancakes every day for breakfast and I found the dinners quite big and they serve soup and homemade bread first.
- NadyneXx (4/5): Not more than 3 days - It's OK to stay here 3 days. Not more.
Food have little portions so expect to be on a diet. But that's OK for a few days.
Tides are very visible so sometime you have low tide day time and there is no ocean. You need to move to other beaches. It's a cheap place if you are on a budget.
- eric_is_bananaman2 (2/5): Poor Value - Poor value
I’ve travelled a lot, and I’m used to certain things in budget accommodation; dodgy electrics, non-functional plumbing, bad management, etc. Balanced with the remoteness of the location, my expectations were fairly low. However, Safe Landing fell fairly short of my expectations, especially given the price we paid.
To cap it off, the staff never failed to make us feel like an inconvenience in their day.
Arrival:
This was the most tedious part of the trip.
Everyone who transferred from the Yasawa Flyer ferry to the small resort boat was brought into the dining area of the resort and sat down in a circle. A lady completely lacking in enthusiasm, charisma or energy droned on about meal times and wifi costs for a long time. She then proceeded to check everyone’s payment situation in a lengthy and tiresome way while all 10 people waited. When she had finally done this, she began to show people to their rooms.
Accommodation:
The main living space of the Bungalows was not too bad, the bathroom however was not nice and needed a really thorough clean. Despite being advertised as having free toiletries, there was not even soap for the bathroom.
There is no hot water at all, and electricity is only supplied between 6pm-6am every day.
There are no ancillary comforts such as a kettle or fridge in the rooms. The only lighting is ugly fluorescent tubes. The bathroom light did not work properly, so we had to use a torch in the evenings.
There was no key supplied for the room, even when we asked. Other guests had the same experience, good luck claiming on travel insurance if you have anything stolen from an unlocked room… Obviously there’s no room safe available either.
There were no towels in our room when we arrived, when we enquired about this we were told that there weren’t any and we’d have to speak to the manager. When we eventually had a chance to ask the manager, she told us there wouldn’t be any towels available till tomorrow. The next day, we still had no towels in the morning. By the evening, after our 3rd visit to the office, we were given two clean towels. Other guests we spoke to had similar experiences.
Services:
If you care about internet connectivity, you are best buying a local SIM card before you arrive (Vodafone gave good signal), as the resort WiFi is $20 per device, and the range only covers the dining area.
The resort bar also sells a few snacks and bits. The beer was never particularly cold though.
Food:
Pretty average uninspiring stuff. Expensive for what it is.
Unfortunately are no other practical options, there are no fridges in rooms so bringing your own supplies is impossible.
Breakfast is included in the price, but is only served early in the morning (7:30-8:30am), so forget about any lazy lie-ins at this place.
Wes walked out to Blue Lagoon resort (which has quite a range of food on offer) on the island one afternoon, they refused to serve us any food or drinks though as we were not guests at their resort. So much for Fijian friendliness and hospitality.
Other guests told us we could eat at the Nabua Lodge which is only a 10min walk away, much the same cuisine, but at a cheaper price. There is also a little coffee and cake shop 5mins walk away, which gave us a warm welcome although the coffee was only instant stuff, the view was lovely though.
Hot Water is on offer on the chalkboard for $2 FJD, a bit pricey, but we fancied a cup of tea one evening (we had our own cups and tea bags), we were told it wasn’t available till tomorrow.
The Good:
I don’t want to be completely negative about this place, as the setting is gorgeous and there is potential for it to be a really great place to visit. However, we really did not feel this place represented value for money in any way. We spoke to other travellers who also were not enchanted with the place, and some of them showed photos of other similarly priced places on other nearby islands, and we wished we had gone to those places instead!
So maybe you’re still thinking about booking in at Safe Landing?
In that case bring:
-Your own towel
-Your own soap
-A torch
-Plenty of mosquito repellant
-USB battery pack
-A local SIM card
-A travel kettle
- ilikebeaches (8/5): Basic and wonderful - We felt like family in the end here, it was wonderful. It’s simple, basic, genuine. The food was really really good, creative, especially for a remote place. The grounds were kept tidy and it felt very peaceful here. Beautiful beach with the best hammocks to lounge away the day with a book. Reasonable out trips to snorkel. Nice activities, lots of free things too should you choose to join in. Our room was big and basic, pretty clean although bugs can still get in and they did. The en-suite bathroom was not super nice, ugly toilet and cold water. Try to get a bungalow on the beach, the ones in the shade looked nice overlooking the beach with a breeze. Our bungalow in the middle of the property was not beeezy, although we used the fan all night and it was fine. The generator is on at night. Bring mosquito spray!! Decent snorkeling, right off the beach.
For the price, it was reasonable and we are glad we stayed here. We were sad to go.
- mikeo987 (10/5): Amazing "local" experience and basic accommodations - This eco-lodge is under new management as of the beginning of the year, so any review I read prior to that were not really relevant anymore or helpful before I arrived. The owner/staff are caring and considerate. I stayed here for one month and it was an amazing experience! I love the people, this location is absolutely amazing, and this is a great deal for the price. The accommodations are very basic here and if you understand that and are expecting it you will really enjoy your time here. The major bonuses of this eco-lodge are the staff, lots of things to do, the location, the price, the fact that you can opt in to meals when you want and don't have to buy a meal plan as many other places require is great! This is a remote location run by locals, many who live in the village nearby. The cultural experience was great!
The rooms are very basic. They are making upgrades to very things literally on a daily basis so the place just keeps getting better. The food is good for short stays but if you are staying longer the menu is limited and repeats itself frequently. If you need reliable internet, bring it with you or grab a SIM card for Digicell or Vodafone the cell signal is very strong throughout this island. Change is always a problem on these remote island (Fiji in generally really) bring cash and bring it in small bills. If you need any snacks, candy, or a regular supply of alcohol, stock up at the airport or a grocery store and bring it with you. These smaller privately run lodges often run out of alcohol for a day or two at a time, and don't carry a wide variety of snacks. Bring a battery backup charger for your phone, I did this and had no issues at all. Power is up and down during the day and runs all night. One of my biggest worries was hot water and the absence of it, this really was not a concern. The water is fairly warm that comes out of the tap/shower and it's so warm on these islands even in the winter that it was refreshing most of the time! Mosquitos are better here than most places, the screens on the rooms are good so you don't need a mosquito net but do bring repellent to wear at night and early evening. If you are vegan, you'd be advised to bring some alternate forms of protein as the diet here is limited. Pre-download Netflix or other entertainment as you will probably not be able to stream major video while on this island.
The rooms, beds, bathrooms, are all very basic here but I was comfortable. If there is something you really need or is unacceptable just ask the staff and they will help you out. All of the excursions are worth it, be sure to take the boat over to Oarsman Bay and have lunch there and hang out on the beach/snorkel - it's fantastic. I will be coming back to this lodge and staying again next year, I couldn't beat the location, experience, or the staff for the price. With the exception of the prices at the lodge, almost everything in Fiji is negotiable price wise... I bought things for $50 that I could have paid $20 for, and tipping isn't part of Fijian culture - however, I found if someone gave me excellent service they would reluctantly accept a tip in private (not in front of everyone).
I spent almost my entire month in Fiji here and would do it again. The beaches on this island are as good as any, the excursions are the same almost everywhere, and the major things to see on the mainland were not really worth it when I stayed there for a few days. I found that everything I needed/wanted to get from my Fiji experience was here. If you want luxury or a hotel experience there other places that are MUCH more expensive.
- Manon (6/5): - The location is awesome but the “ bure “ was really dirty and old.
- heatherf3377 (2/5): Not such a safe landing - I would not recommend staying at Safe Landing Resort. First, let me start by saying the pictures that are posted are NOT what is to be expected. The room has no power or electricity which isn't advertised, also there is only running water for certain hours. You have to purchase water from the common area even to brush your teeth. The room was utterly disgusting and the dirtiest place I have ever stayed in my entire life. The toilet looked as though it was straight from a jail cell, and the massage table looked like a torture table. My husband and I were planning to stay here for the last few nights of our honeymoon and we left 18 hours into being there because it was so terrible. I wouldn't expect the activities or amenities that are listed, such as kayaking, fish feeding, hand fishing, massages, snorkeling, drinking from coconuts or any kind of cocktails. I would advise anyone even thinking of staying here DO NOT do it!!!
The only positive encounter we had was with the people.
- twalsh97 (6/5): Not great - We visited safe landing in May 2019. The place is quite worn out, which is fine but was falsely advertised online. We booked a private room with an en suite, however, were given a room with a shared bathroom. No one seemed bothered or cared to check we were in the right room. Most of the staff are friendly enough but quite distant and the atmosphere, especially, after dinner is quite dead. Especially compared to other resorts nearby which are livelier and friendlier. Some of our friends who were also staying here, had issues with their booking and as a result they were made to feel very unwelcome and there was a lot of hostility. On the plus side, the beach is stunning and very quiet and peaceful. The huts are also right on the beach which is amazing. The food portions are huge, decent food, not much for Vegetarians, and Vegans will massively struggle.
- Gretchen (6/5): Good overall - The location and people are superb! They sing to you during meals and when you arrive and leave. The tours they have are also great. However, The showers are cold and water not drinkable. A few people got sick or purchased expensive bottled water. They say they cater to vegans/vegetarians, but really its just stir fried onions, soy sauce, rice and Taro with fruit every day-nothing special and little protein. The rooms seem tidy, but a bit run down; however no bed bugs to be seen! I checked thoroughly after reading a 2011 review. Bring a water purifier like safe straw if you stay here. Its more glamping than a resort. But if you are a minimalist and want an authentic Fijian experience this is it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stunning place to stay right on beach. The accomodation is basic but has everything you need! This place is all about the amazing staff and the stunning setting, paradise!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Definitely Pick Somewhere else - The place was dirty and uncomfortable. There was no electricity or running water from sun up to sun down. The dining hall offered one meal option for breakfast lunch and dinner. The staff were rude and impatient and made me feel stupid anytime I had a question.
