Guest Reviews
- Karin (10/5): Great Place excellent cooking, the Location is so cool. - Great Experience, excellent Food and sleeping! Water was sometimes really Crazy hot
- Perciot (8/5): -
- Rachel (10/5): Fantastic experience, would definitely recommend! - Fantastic experience of a traditional ryokan. Lovely staff too.
Multiple onsens available including a private one which is perfect for couples and families.
Food experience was great too. A lot of fish so if you don’t like fish, request alternative meat ahead of time. They catered for vegetarian too.
I’d recommend getting off at Naka-Gora station when arriving and leave from Koen-Kami station so you walk downhill.
FYI breakfast is served at 8am and dinner at 6pm, and cable car and ropeway don’t start until around 9am. No showers in the room, only in the onsen, but ok if you plan on using the onsens.
- Bradley (2/5): -
- Erika (9/5): -
- gisèle (8/5): -
- Mayo (6/5): -

- Julieta Romina (10/5): Increible - La atención excelente, muy amables, atentos.
Las instalaciones y las vistas espectaculares.
- Hooi Woen (7/5): Good onsen experience, nice breakfast and great keisei dinner. - There was a slope reaching the location, hence can be challenging to walk with luggage. However, the staff informed we can actually call them for shuttle service. They have indeed sent us to bus station when we checked out, which save the most hassle for us. The bus took us direct to Odawara Station, which gave us the top convenience instead of changing among cable car and various trains which can be crowded at times.
All good on the experience, but good to note that it's an onsen ryokan and no attached bathroom. Hence even if you do not want to use the onsen, you still need to bathe at the open bathroom next to the onsen place. Not really.
- Shawn (9/5): - Very attentive staff and delicious meals. The Osen was easy to access and use Overall the hotel is a bit dated, but definitely very comfortable. The osen is also only suitable for a few people at a time but didn't have anyone else present when I used them.
- Oleksii (9/5): Hot springs stay - Very friendly service. Good location and perfect place to rest on the hot springs for couple days. The dinner and breakfast are included and are a good addition to very pleasant stay. The massage chairs/sofas were not working.
There is no bar, where you can sit after exhausting day.
- Laury (10/5): -
Millor trucar a l’hotel i ells et faciliten amablement un transport per anar-hi.
- Moe (10/5): -
- sahil (9/5): - Amazing traditional experience. Just the location is bit tough to reach
- Melissa (9/5): Einmalige Erfahrung - Überaus freundliches (englischsprachiges) Personal.
- Théo (9/5): -
- Giulia (8/5): -
- Vincent (8/5): Excellent séjour ! - Les onsens et le repas kaiseki
- Michelle (8/5): Relaxing couple nights away - We enjoyed our stay here! We got quite unlucky with the weather and it was cloudy and rainy the entire time, and therefore the area was a bit remote for that (all the activities we planned to do would have been a bit of a bummer in the clouds!), so two nights felt a bit long. However, for the onsen the weather was nice. It was good to have the one on site and one just across the street.
Breakfast and dinner being provided was great, and they catered to the fact that we were vegetarian. The food is traditional, so it’s important to know and expect that going into it. My friend struggled with textures and some tastes, especially for breakfast, and as this was at the end of our trip, she had a harder time enjoying it. However, that is nothing negative about the place, but important to keep in mind when booking.
The staff were very kind. They picked us up from Gora station (which I only knew about because I read it on someone’s review), and that was definitely appreciated and needed, as it’s quite a trek up there! You need to call to request it, but there is a pay phone at the station. The futons were okay, but just a bit difficult to sleep on if you aren’t used to them! Again, we knew this going into it, so it was fine.
The place is a little old, and you could feel that with the building and the shower room (which we actually didn’t end up using, as we washed in the onsen).
The info about the taxi could be listed somewhere clearly (unless I’m just dumb and missed it, which could absolutely be the case!)
- Minh Ngoc (8/5): Great experience, delicious meal and nice onsen - Breakfast and dinner were amazing quality. Staff were also very helpful and supportive. They also have private onsen, which is great for someone shy like us, though please not that it is smaller than the public ones. There are also multiple onsens if you want to try them out. It's a bit travelling uphill from Gora Station, so if you want to walk here with your luggage, it will be very tiring. Though you can book a taxi to get here. Our room entrance was also outside of the building through like a small alley, which has some bugs at night if you accidently leave the door open or walk around. Nothing major, but we are not a fan of bugs so it would have been nice to have a room inside.
- Pingan (9/5): -
- Gabriele (10/5): - The dinner and the breakfast were very delicios and abundant
- Ekaterina (9/5): Lovely experience and definitely worth its price - I visited with my husband, and it was our first time at a ryokan. To be honest, I regret a bit that we did not plan 3 days of stay here to explore Hakone more, 2 days are barely enough to enjoy both the ryokan and the round trip at Hakone. It's such a unique experience to live at a ryokan. Although our Japanese style room was a bit shabby, I actually liked it, because it felt like we were visiting our Japanese grandparents we didn't know we had :) It definitely worth the price we paid, and I would not trade it for some soulless refined hotel. Staff here were friendly and helpful. Food here was amazing. Do not even hesitate to book your breakfasts and diners here.
Onsens here are quite good, and you have a variety of them, even outdoor baths, although I haven't visited another onsen to compare it with. Not much to complain about. AC might have been a bit loud at night. The free private family bath was indoor and extremely hot, we couldn't stay there. So we paid extra to book another private outdoor+indoor bath, which is OK, but I wish we knew it from the start.
Some people might find the hotel a bit outdated and shabby, but it was not a problem for us at all. I mean, if you are looking for something polished and Instagram-worthy - you got to look at ryokans that cost at lease 3 times more than this ryokan.
- Jackie (7/5): - I loved the concept! A (somewhat - it was built in the 1970's) old ryokan with a Kaiseki dinner and breakfast included. The meals were great. Totally what we expected. Nicely presented and good food! The location was also great! As mentioned, the ryokan needs a refresh. It has such potential. While dated, the biggest issue was that some areas were dirty. For example, when you had your dinner, screens were set up between tables so everyone had their privacy (as is traditional in a Kaiseki, as I understand it), but the screens were stained/dirty, so it took away from that experience. The same is true with our room. Our curtains were stained. The ryokan wasn't cheap so would expect these types of easy to fix things would have been addressed.
- Anita (10/5): Super relaxing stay with onsen and lovely food - LOVED the onsen, food and gowns! And the massage chairs. Staff were so friendly and we just had the best time. Nothing
- Santiago (7/5): -
- Colleen (10/5): - Isolated from city streets Outdated appearance
- Jurgita (10/5): -
- Christian (9/5): - Struttura spaziosa e confortevole. Il personale molto disponibile e attento.
Cena e colazione ottimi.
- Regina (9/5): Puiki vieta su onsenais kelioms dienoms maloniai pailsėti. - Jaukus japoniško stiliaus kambarys, puikus maistas, gražiai paserviruotas stalas, jauki aplinka, švara...Paslaugus personalas - priėmė pasaugoti lagaminus dar prieš įsikuriant namuose. Vėliau, kai atsirado angliškai kalbančių, išsiaiškinome, kad kelias iki turistinio traukinuko - visai artimas. Vieta nėra lengvai pasiekiama, ypač kai pirmą kartą keliauji...
- Mathieu (9/5): -
- Sergey (10/5): Great experience and a good deal. - Stayed with a friend. The food was incredible for the price (both dinner and breakfast). The room is quite large. The outdoor bath was small but cozy. A bit of a walk from Goura station, steep uphills (but not a problem if you drive, like we did).
- Christopher (10/5): -
- Max Huneke (8/5): -
- Jana (4/5): -
- vaishnavi (10/5): -
- Craig (5/5): - The meals were fantastic.. But the whole building complex is very old and looking much more tired and run down then we expected from the photos.
- Nicholas (10/5): - Very nice ryokan experience, would definitely recommend this place. The beds could be more comfortable.
- Richard (8/5): -
- Ali (4/5): An old Ryokan - Food was good. Rust everywhere, mold on the walls and the furniture and flooring is damaged. The private onsen is rusty and unkept they need clean it
- Steve (10/5): Ottimo Ryokan, personale molto accogliente - Tutto. Struttura molto pulita, staff estremamente cortese e disponibile.
Cibo ottimo e stanze molto comode e accoglienti.
- Marianne (9/5): -
- Steph (9/5): - The room was confortable. The food was delicous. Spa was great and relaxant. Staff was friendly and help full. Installation was a little old but in good conditions.
- Roberta (5/5): -
- Monica Sachi (6/5): -
- Alberto (9/5): Indimenticabile - Relax, autenticità
- Paul (9/5): authentic ryokan experience - * dining experience with the chef * the quality of shared (male/female) onsen in the main building
- Natalie (9/5): -
- Kristin (10/5): - Nice and traditional ryokan with onsen facilities in beutiful Gora. Short walking distance from the Gora cable car. Very nice and interesting Japanese dinner and breakfast included. Great experience to eat wearing our yukatas, available in our room.
- Piotr (10/5): - A great place to feel the real Japanese experience in a typical traditional way. Onsen was the best experience especially in that location There should be some kind of instruction what to do and how to eat things during dinner and breakfast (there was too little explanation about the served food)
- Cine (10/5): -
- Vincent (10/5): - Loved the traditional food and accommodation
- Manuel (10/5): - Relaxing and calm atmosphere, superb customer care
- Kin Man (10/5): - Nice traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. Room with traditional Japanese tatami for sleeping. Staff are very nice welcoming and friendly. They even offer us a ride when we checkout. We travel with 2 children and they been very accommodating to our needs. Facilities provided 24hrs access to men and women public hot spring bath tub. There are also a private bath hot spring tub just for individual family to use. Overall been very happy with our stay on this roykan.
- Boon (10/5): Relaxing and great hospitality by the hotel staff. - Authentic and well presented japanese meal. Nil
- Lee (10/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend staying here if you’re looking for a traditional Ryokan.
- Wei (9/5): Superb -
- Steven (4/5): - Unfortunately this was not a satisfactory property, especially by Japanese standards. One should think of it as a budget Ryokan option. On a positive note: the food--all Japanese style--was very good. But the building itself is in sore need of a big renovation and makeover. The carpets are horribly discoloured, presumably clean but they appear dirty. The walls in general need to be repainted. Doors need to be replaced. Many other details need looking after. The smell in the building is not very pleasant. The onsen was small and uninviting. Various mats on the floor didn't give one confidence that all was clean. Staff in general was friendly and accommodating, though some of the male responses to requests were a bit gruff.
