Brendan (10/5): - The room was clean and comfortable with the two for drinking water a huge benefit. The breakfast buffet was good quality with a good mixture of local and western foods. Eggs cooked to order was a huge plus too. The rooftop pool and restaurant were lovely in the evening when the sun was setting. I ate here twice and the quality was great and staff very friendly

Lepina (10/5): Central located hotel - This hotel is beer centrally located - the drive to the airport was average 20 mins; the Suria shopping mall is a 3-5 min walk and the boat docking port to the islands (gaya island; Sapi island etc) is also 5 mins walk. The staff were always really nice and smiling. The breakfast was definitely fresh and varied. I would recommend staying here and booking the sea view room.

Miao (10/5): - The hotel is very close to the mall and the harbour. We booked it mainly because we needed to take a dive course, and the price was a great deal. Breakfast was okay, and it was also conveniently close to all the restaurants we wanted to visit.
jokl78 (2/5): Really Poor Service - Mercure hotel gave me a very very very bad experience even before checking in. The Asst Reservation Manager is very rude to the guest. Raise voice when guest is asking queries. During check in, front desk is not knowledgeable. They are unable to honour what was mentioned in the website e.g. complimentary in-room minibar, etc. Have to get the Duty Manager to intervene and sort things out. Some of the power plugs/sockets in the room are not working because the breaker trip due to short circuit due to water seepage. Not good. Hotel staff came into my room without pressing door bell or knocking. Was shock to see someone just barge into my room. What if i'm naked? Towel service at the pool area is poor. No towel available for more than 30 mins with no one around to assist. Was told housekeeping is getting the towels but 30 mins to get the towels? Really? Breakfast at the noodle station is another joke. The lady there really needs a lot of training. Ask for bean sprouts only without any noodles. She just gave me the bean sprouts without any broth or condiments. My friend told her he want mee hoon. 2 mins later he came back she only gave him mee hoon without any broth and condiments. Hotel layout and state is bad and poor. They really need to close down and have a major renovation. Gym layout is weird. They have like 4 small connected rooms to put the gym equipment. It's not an open space. Really weird. AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COST!

Miao (10/5): - The location is great—very close to Jesselton Harbor. We booked the OWD course, so it was super convenient for us—only a 3‑minute walk. There’s also a big shopping mall nearby, plus it’s easy to find the durian street, fruit market, and seafood market. The hotel price is quite cheap, and it’s clean enough. It could be a bit better, but overall, it’s all good.

JChua (6/5): - Booked 2 nights here because of its proximity to Jesselton Jetty, Suria Mall & Jalan Gaya night market, not disappointed in this respect. There are also 2 supermarkets & a coffee shop & restaurants nearby. Offered Executive Suite 602 but could not sleep well due to its facing a busy round-about and on the lower floor. Separated bedroom with a small living room, mini fridge with no kitchen. Next day, paid for an upgrade to One bedroom suite 63sqm, 1711 which has a real stove top & pot & frying pan. No cooking condiments, only plates, bowls & cutlery for 2. Facing the Jetty & the Sea, it was much quieter and we slept well on the huge comfy bed. Hotel has weird practice of not having hand wash liquid next to the kitchenette & bathroom basin! Room 602 aircon also not working well! Little or no sound proofing. Lobby is quite small and can be packed at 3pm. Gym on 24th needs to register with Reception in order to access - very troublesome! Pool on 25th has nice views but quite small, however, enough to do laps here. Advised to book a Sea facing higher floor room here, reject rooms on lower floors & no Executive suites 40sqmhere.
earlgreyteaplease (6/5): Average but low cost - Had a one night stay here after a late flight, and the staff were friendly (in particular the doorman and the guys at the top floor bar). The room itself was basic but clean, although showing quite a lot of signs of wear. Similarly the corridors were a bit dingy, scuffed walls etc. I found the breakfast disappointing both in terms of quality and selection (although it isn't expensive).
TINA (10/5): Lovely Hotel - Lovely hotel with good facilities and friendly staff. The room was very clean and comfortable. After arriving on a late flight I Was a little bit disappointed that we couldn’t get something to eat in the restaurant at 10.30 even though the closing time displayed was 11pm.
perthonthemove (6/5): Showing the age - We booked a king suite and a second room. Both rooms showed signs of age. Breakfast was satisfactory. Staff were trying their best to help. No car parking at this hotel and street parking is almost unavailable and if you do not have a local mobile, you cannot even pay for the parking via the app! The rooftop pool and restaurant is good and is definitely the best place / feature of this hotel. Overpriced for the quality of the accommodation.

The room is spacious and comfortable. All great except for one evening, the guest's children above floor run and jump around. Feedback to reception and resolved. Good high floor with a nice view of sunset, sea, and jetty. Daily housekeeping ok, great reception staff and happy Ms Kaplie always ready to help. Friendly, well trained, and attentive F&B staff. Especially Mr Fidrus. A friendly, hardworking, informative, and jovial guy that makes your day! We greatly appreciate the great and warm hospitalities from Mercure Hotel GM/CFO Mdm Patricia at the CNY celebration and Sales Director Aaron during dinner. They are really friendly with great personality and very approachable! We truly enjoyed the CNY Lion Dance and Yusheng celebration! Thank you for the invitation! Never expected it to be formal and proceeding so thoroughly. We have great fun with so many colourful photos and videos as memories. Thank you for the opportunity to engage with the happy families of all Mercure hotel staff! Though the hotel is not truly in the centre of Kota Kinabalu, it location was never an issue to us due to all the conveniences around. If you are touring, conveniences are the major. Gaya Street with many eateries and coffee shops are just 5 mins walkaway. There are numerous popular restaurants along the walk from Mercure to Gaya Street. Suria Mall is just opposite Mercure Hotel with Jessilton duty-free next door. It is a great mall with so many restaurants and shopping. Just a 15-minute walk, you can stroll along the waterfront with many seafood restaurants and night markets. There are numerous interesting restaurants and cafes in Jessilton Quay, just 10 mins walk away. Not forgetting the jump off point to all your island hopping, sunbathing, diving, and beaches. The Jessiton jetty is also 5 min walk away. There are souvenirs and little interesting shops along Gaya Street, but major are food, Sunday, and weekend markets. So you want 'a central with nothing' or conveniences? You decide.. Mercure has a nice rooftop pool. (slightly small when full house) A nice bar and quiet and a very comfortable restaurant.(After sunset, trust me) Will be back in Mercure Hotel for our next trip to Sandakan! Great hospitality and services, conveniences, and great food around! Side trip - don't miss Kundasang when in Kinabalu. A heaven on earth just 2 hrs drive in the mountains! You won't regret it!
benoitp237 (6/5): Very very basic - Very basic... Rooms quite old and bathroom smelly. I book a suite single room, aircon not working , safe box doesn't work too. Breakfast overall ok. Restaurant food very basic, ordered some cocktails at swimming pool, not good. I do not recommand
HiMette (10/5): Perfect location - I stayed here for 4 nights. The location was perfect both for exploring the city, but also for island hopping. Everything was in walking distance. The room was nice and I especially loved the bathroom. Others might prefer more privacy though. The pool was great and offered a beautiful view of the city and Jesselton Point. The bar offers nice meals. It’s a bit in the pricey end, but it was worth the money. I did not try their fitness studio as one had to book it in advance and only a certain amount of people could be there at the same time. All together I would stay here again.

368campbellt (8/5): Good service - I’m staying at the Mercure for work. It’s for an emergency meeting. My sister booked me the executive suite, and I have a nice tree view from my room. The wardrobe is huge, though the heater’s a bit dusty. There’s also a seating area in the room. I really love the lobby – it smells amazing! It’s a bit busy though since there was only one staff member on duty at the time. Zaida from guest service was super calm handling all the grumpy guests. Overall, good service here. The only thing I don’t like is the smell in the corridor
Florian254 (4/5): Service oriented? No, not us. City Centre? Not really - Location: Well, it is called city centre but I di not find a city centre. A mall Igel), a pier and some shops and some restaurants, that's it. The only upside is a nice view to the sunset. If you go out the main exit and turn right, there is a good Korean restaurant and a nice shop for snacks and wine. Room: Small as expected but here come the point. The first one was dirty and especially mouldy, the second half way ok, even though pretty worn. And in the first one the AC did not work. OK for one night but that's it. At best, if you avoid the bad rooms. Service: In the first room the AC was broken and three times ringing the reception did not get any answer. So track you bag back to the lobby to find out that there is no other room and the next one might be available in 2 hours. Overall the impression was clear: You stay here for one night, you will never come back and that's how we treat you. Well, the former was right, the latter they made sure of. Public spaces. Worn down in many areas the only saving grace was the pool where you had a nice view of the sunset. Bring your own towels. (see service). All in all. For one night enjoy the Korean, have some wine from the shop and ignore everything else.

719jaan (8/5): Good choice for downtown stay - Lovely decor and excellent staff. Good location, a quiet area, just a short walk to the waterfront area Room is a good size and well appointed. Excellent pool deck on top (25th) floor, a fantastic view across the entire bay We watched the sunset develop over several nights - really wonderful. We also greatly enjoyed the restaurant at the pool for drinks and dinner The breakfast buffet - mixed * The selection appears great, but average quality * There are freshly booked eggs and good coffee - good * Our main issue - the food is warm/cold. Many dish heaters were not on, or if they were on had almost no heating effect. A couple small details * Room safe very hard to get to - bottom of the closet, with a door that only partially opens... * There is an excellent filtered water faucet provided but this was not explained. We figured it out by the third night.

MJD013 (8/5): Great location.. pool looks good too - We only stayed here for a night, in transit to elsewhere. Great location, close to a few malls, restaurants, and the waterfront. Being Platinum, we got upgraded to a suite; which was much appreciated. This was definitely one of the better Mercures I've stayed at Breakfast was very average, dinner at the rooftop restaurant was nice. A slight complaint that the drinks voucher does not include wine or beer; only soft drinks or a mocktail.

Even the new room wasn’t much better. The breakfast was equally disappointing—bland and unappetizing. I highly do not recommend staying here.

dutts303 (6/5): Good location, good size and reasonably clean but tired rooms - We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment which consisted of a large combined lounge kitchen dining area, two bedrooms (one with en suite), and a main bathroom. All the rooms in the apartment were a good size and easily comfortable for the four of us (two adults and two children). The staff on the door and at reception were friendly and attentive. The hotel is located in the downtown area of Kota, a 5 minute walk from Jessleton Point Marina for boat trips to the islands and the Suria Sabah shopping centre so ideally located for exploring the city and the area, you're no more than a cheap Grab car ride away from the rest of the city. My main criticism is that the rooms and the areas outside of the reception were quite tired and old. Both showers leaked because the rubber door trims were missing from the enclosures, the sealant around the bathroom fittings had mould and the furniture and fittings in the apartment, while comfortable, showed clear signs or wear and tear from age. The bedding, towels and room was clean and the housekeeping staff were good with providing us towels to mop up the flooding but it didn't feel very much like a 4 star experience, it feels like the rooms could do with a proper deep clean or even better a refurbish to bring it up to a Mercure 4 star standard.

Jesse (8/5): - Nice enough hotel. My wife has diabetic medication that needs to keep cool so we like to use freeze packs as we travel to keep the meds cold. The rooms don’t have a freezer and the hotel would not freeze the packs for us. Every other hotel in Borneo was willing to do this for us. Security guard out the front (Aidi) was very helpful and organised a taxi to get us to the airport when our Grab failed to pick us up. We are very greatful to him for ensuring we made it to the airport in time. Sister in law left her phone at the hotel and the staff kept it safe until we returned to pick it up a few days later. Again we were very grateful however I was a little surprised they didn’t contact us when they found it originally. We didn’t contact them for a few days after we realized where we had left it.
LouLouThruAndThru (2/5): Just don’t. - Read the other unfavourable reviews and you will have a very good indication of the problems at this hotel. Filthy. On our last morning we even found vomit in our floor’s lift lobby. And some smokers abusing the rules to not smoke in this hotel. So to be fair the clientele didn’t help. Due to our plans we used three rooms on 12th floor and each had mould throughout from the door front onwards. The showers were epic for colourful growths. Hilarious tiling job effort if you have vertigo! Had to beg repeatedly for new towels after they took ours. New ones smelled toxic and were handkerchief sized. No flannels or hand towels. Bed linens had holes and grease marks. Rooms smelled of kaka and sounded like a shower running all night. No noise proofing so you can happily be involved in neighbours’ chats. Black mould along hallway ceilings traces leaking pipes. Honestly, nothing redeeming other than location and luggage storage on our last day. Actually the rooftop restaurant was OK but the pool should be condemned. Mercure/Accor I don’t know how you can allow your brand to be associated with this hotel. True disgrace.

So dirty and disgusting. The internal of hotel is also old and rundown. However the internal room condition is fortunately still ok.
740meadowm (2/5): Most disgusting hotel I've ever been to - An absolute shthole. I have never seen such dirty hotel. Building itself is old BUT holways inside are dirty and run down, lobby stinks with very string unbearable stench. Rooms are disgusting. Showers have not been cleaned, mold everywhere, AC vents with a thick coat of dirt in them, asked for a room change and the same story with showers and mould. It says it's 4 star hotel, I wouldn't give it even ONE! Waste of money.

Yog Gin (8/5): Mercury hotel Kota Kinabalu - Hotel is conveniently situated in the city centre. A short walk to the harbour and markets, restaurants, and a shopping mall. Rooms are spacious and has everything a traveller might need. As with most hotels in Malaysia, it needs some housekeeping attention and maintenance.
lau (10/5): - Bed was comfy, room seemed abit dated for a new hotel. Hinges of the shower were creaking and lots of dirt under the sink. Hotel had terrible access road as we were driving, and parking was not available and had to park at govt issued parking on the road side. A car next to us had its window smashed in one morning, and I guess that shows the lack of safety without own compound.

Richard (10/5): - The hotel is located in a busy area with lots of dining options. It's steps away from the ferry port which takes you to the surrounding islands. I found the staff less helpful compared to other SE Asian countries, things like not helping with booking tours. Little things like not greeting you when you walk by the front desk, but that really was not an issue, just a noticeable difference from other places. Overall, the hotel is good and i would recommend a stay here.

Cloth hangers are not in good condition. 6. Room is small and no privacy for toilet and bathroom.

Julie-ann (6/5): - Was our first time to Kota Kinabalu and the room we were given was dissappointing as I specifically picked this location to have a sea view, might have been my fault for not reading the rooms correctly but the hotel didnt seem busy so we could have been moved but we were not. The foyer was welcoming but once up onto the floors the presentation here is in need of a refurbishment. Rooms not very sound proof and door do not soft close so the comings and goings of others was very loud at all hours. Pool area was the best view and staff their were extremely friendly and helpful. Would stay again but would make sure to get a better room.

Breakfast not great especially for veggies/vegans. Good they have water filtervtaps and toiletry regills...not so mych the drntal kurs though. Worst thing...no soundproofing. Can hear everything in next room and was woken up by the sound of coughing. Pool was pleasant but rooftop restaurant dreadful.

Secondly your hotel is not providing the basic in room coffee and tea bag, While I request from the front desk he replies the coffee is "By request only" Wow I thought it must be a luxury or hi quality of coffee. It makes me speechless when the housekeeper sends me the unknown brand instant coffee and I am doubtful about consuming it. Thirdly while I planning walk to nearby convenience store it was raining dog and cat I'm request umbrella from the concierge, he told me that hotel not providing umbrella, it make me feel the unpleasure to staying your hotel for the next visit. However I hope you can improve on what I've commented.

Kevin (4/5): Good if you are fine with filth - The hotel is sitting right at the heart of the city and the surroundings are quite buzzing. In terms of location we are good. The check-in experience was good and smooth. Nevertheless, the breaker is the hotel cleanliness. To say the least, it was filthy. I can understand that in post-covid situation with the Sabah borders just opening to domestic travellers all businesses have been disrupted and that hospitality has been hit the harder. Though, I can't conceive that a hotel operating under the Accor brand can tolerate such a level of filthiness. Carpets were not vacuumed anywhere in the hotel, surfaces in the room were not wiped, the sofa turned from grey to black. I usually don't report complaints on this platform but that time it was really over board. Some representative at Accor might want to have a look at this hotel....

When I came back to the room and discover, i tried calling receptionist, operator and also housekeeping - there seem to be none picking up the call. Very upsetting to receive such service. The hotel staff after that did, apologize and wanted to do housekeeping but it was too late at night already.
Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointing stay - Disappointing 3 nights stay, first experiencing a carpark maintenance in their hotel on our 1st day and a breakdown of their mechanical carpark system on our last day. No solution was given by the front desk and we can only hope that our car will be out of the mechanical carpark system before our flight takes off. I will not suggest guest to use their carpark as they don't have the capability to manage it. Park at your own risk if you are driving. Design of the hotel room bathroom is bad, walls are thin and doors are slamming hard even with a door enclosure. I have stayed in Accor group hotels before and this is definitely not a 4 star hotel standard, customer service is disappointing. I would rather spend my money elsewhere.
Erwin (8/5): - The hotel is located not far from airport, nearby malls and very close to the city jetty; hence, very convenient. Our family room was quite spacious and clean, beds comfortable; the terrace restaurant and pool is a very pleasant place to lunch / dinner; overall, all as expected or more, actually. We did have only minor issues with the magnetic key and hot water; nevertheless, the staff was always kind to respond and prompt to put things in order. Would not hesitate to choose again.

I found the shower cubicle does not have hooks to hang towels and clothes. After showering, guest can only towel dry and put on clothes outside shower cubicle that embarrassed room mate to see the guest in nude! Reception staff advised suite room with bathroom door suits me better. Front office supervisor and staff Asmawi and Sham are considerate and flexible to grant late checkout as my flight is 4pm. Will come back to stay if bathroom door issue is fixed.

Anna (10/5): Loved our stay! - The staff were very welcoming and accommodating at the hotel. Everyone we interacted with were very friendly. The reception area was nicely decorated however the room floors were slightly dated looking. The rooftop swimming pool was beautiful though it possibly needs more sun loungers. The breakfast was delicious, it would be helpful if the food was labelled for vegetarians and food allergies. The bedroom was a good size however the bathroom layout was a bit strange, there needs to be proper full length doors separating the toilet from the bedroom.
