• Andrew Plumb (10/5): - Amazing place. Service is exceptional. Delicious Japanese breakfasts. Beautiful location close to picturesque area of Kyoto with plenty of walkable shops and restaurants. Close to Kiyomizu-dera which is one of my favourite places in Kyoto. I loved the fact that it wasn't too central or noisy - others might want to be closer to the city centre but that is an individual thing. It's easy to get to the centre via taxi or bus (15 minutes by taxi and not expensive, around 2500 yen). Rooftop terrace offers amazing views. Hard to think of anything to improve. It's a perfect place if you want to stay somewhere outside of central Kyoto.

Close to beautiful stone streets full of shops and restaurants. When it says “with shower” that does not mesh the shower is physically part your room. It wasn’t a shared shower or toilet, but those doors were in a shared space, not directly part of your private room.

Le rooftop avec vue sur Hōkan-ji était incroyable ! Nous pouvions même commander à boire ou grignoter et l'emmener sur la terrasse. Il y aurait également eu la possibilité de prendre un bain japonais (onsen) à privatiser au dernier étage, mais même si nous ne l'avons pas fait, nous apprécions le fait que la possibilité existe. Nous avons également apprécié pouvoir laisser nos bagages sous la surveillance du personnel même après notre check-out pour pouvoir partir à l'aventure légers. Enfin, un grand merci à l'hôtesse qui a pris le soin d'appeler un taxi pour notre transfert (à notre charge) jusqu'à notre prochain hôtel, allant même jusqu'à nous aider à porter nos affaires jusqu'au taxi et expliquer au chauffeur où se trouvait notre prochaine destination. • Daniel (9/5): Amazing stay in beautiful historical Kyoto! - The property was set in a beautiful, traditional ryokan in the heart of historical Kyoto. The room was spacious, the tatami mats were comfortable and the room came with all the amenities you need. The staff were very accommodating to our family and were fab throughout our stay, especially with our 1 year old and our pram etc. The traditional Japanese breakfast was exceptional and something that we would highly recommend. Such a lovely stay in Kyoto, with an exceptional location and somewhere we would recommend for others to stay during their Japan trip! The only small point to note is that housekeeping is provided upon request rather than as a routine daily service.

Il faudrait proposer un petit déjeuner occidental en plus du petit déjeuner traditionnel japonais, pour convenir à tous les goûts, notamment pour un séjour de plusieurs jours.
• Ryan (10/5): - We are a family of four with boys aged 12 & 14 and stayed 4 nights. Our stay was the highlight of our trip to Japan. The location is fantastic and close walking distance to many of the sites in Gion area and an easy walk to transit for further exploring. The breakfast is an absolute must and was fantastic, it was both wonderful food and an authentic Japanese experience. We all appreciated the chance to experience the traditional accommodation and the rooftop views are spectacular. Finally, our hosts were welcoming and generous and helpful with recommendations. This included messaging prior to our arrival regarding luggage arrangements which was very helpful. We will stay here anytime we are in Kyoto again!

• Nath (10/5): Traditional Ryokan hosted by the most amazing staff. Only a short walk from shops, restaurants and shrines. I will DEFIN - The staff were so kind and amazing! The young lady took our luggage upstairs for us, served us snacks and traditional tea upon our arrival, and upon our departure they let us keep our luggage for a little extra before we left Kyoto. The young man was also kind enough to provide me and my brother with hand warming packs due to the cold weather, and offered to call us a taxi. There was also a beautiful view on roof which was accessible 24hrs and the location was right next to a lot of beautiful shrines and shops (including the famous Mochi Mochi). Would definitely recommend staying here next time I’m in Kyoto. It wasn’t super close to any train stations so you’ll need a taxi to get there.

Empfehle unbedingt mindestens 1 Mal ein Frühstück dazu zu buchen. Kleiner Tipp für die Anreise, geht auf keinen Fall durch Ninenzaka zum Hotel sondern aussen rum, besonders mit Gepäck.

• Elena (10/5): December stay - We chose Kyo no Yado Sangen Ninenzaka so we could experience a traditional Japanese hospitality. Loved everything during our stay, as we're able to immerse in Japanese culture completely. Also, the location of the ryakan is excellent - just steps away from one of the busiest streets in Kyoto, and at the same time very quite. As a bonus, highly recommend to order their breakfast, it is a traditional Japanese breakfast and very good. Nothing.

The room was spacious, the futon was very comfortable, and there was plenty of space to store luggage. They offer several amenities and also provide a yukata, which was a nice touch. I highly recommend the breakfast. It was delicious and prepared by a chef who kindly introduced each dish, making it a special experience. The hotel also has an ofuro, which was very relaxing. The staff were extremely kind, nice, and helpful throughout the stay. The location is excellent, close to temples and you can reach many places within a maximum of 20 minutes on foot. The only thing that took me by surprise was an accommodation fee charged at checkout

Our host was super friendly, helpful and extremely accommodating and everything that we could’ve needed was taken care of. A big word of thanks to Meida Kazuki-san who was wonderful with his cheery disposition and assistance. Rooms are tidied on request only. This includes replacement of towels and water which is a bit off. Small niggle for an overall wonderful Ryokan experience.

We requested halal breakfast and they made it with so much effort and even tho it’s first time for them for such a request, the food came out very tasty (fish, egg and vegetables). During checkout, they called a big taxi for us since we are family with 5 members and 3 big luggage. It’s little bit dusty inside our room but still tolerable.

• Rudolf (10/5): A peaceful and authentic stay! - We had a wonderful stay at Ryokan Sangen in Gion, Kyoto. The atmosphere felt truly traditional yet comfortable, and everything was impeccably clean. One of the highlights was the breathtaking view from the terrace—a perfect place to unwind and take in the charm of Gion. We also loved the private hot bath, which can be booked in advance. It was relaxing, beautifully maintained, and added a special touch to the stay. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to help with a warm smile. A big plus was how quickly they handled the laundry—cleaned and returned in no time, which was a lifesaver while traveling. Overall, Ryokan Sangen offers a classic Kyoto experience with excellent service. Highly recommended for anyone wanting an authentic and peaceful stay in Gion.

Miejsce jest zlokalizowane w samym środku historycznej dzielnicy Kioto, więc jest blisko do większości największych atrakcji. Przemiła obsługa. Klimatyczne wnętrze robiące wrażenie. Pyszne śniadanie - polecam uwzględnić je podczas bukowania. Aż szkoda, że byliśmy tu tylko jedną noc. To nie wina hotelu, ale trzeba wziąć to pod uwagę podczas rezerwowania: jeśli przyjeżdżasz z dużym bagażem, może być ciężko dostać się do hotelu na pieszo. Uliczki dzielnicy są pokryte historycznym brukiem, przez co ciężko ciągnąć walizkę. Polecam zamówić taksówkę, co znacznie skróci spacer.

We paid for the breakfast option and it was made with a lot of care and was delicious. The staff were all friendly and accommodating, and very professional. Also theres a cute rooftop to hang out on, and inside on the top floor theres a nice soaking tub where you can have a nice bath (after a quick shower of course). Il a été notre havre de paix, un cocon paisible où le personnel a été aux petits soins et à l'écoute des demandes. Je leur dois beaucoup. Toutes les caractéristiques spécifiques du ryokan traditionnel étaient réunies, ce qui nous enchantait. Nous y avons vécu des moments forts, des moments inoubliables, et nous y reviendrons. • Yulia (10/5): We want to come back! - Location is unbeatable as well as staying in a Japanese house hotel. We are a family of 4 and all slept on futons on the floor for 3 nights. I have to say we had some reservations about our comfort but it was great! They are unexpectedly comfortable and we all had great sleep in spite of aching backs and legs after +20,000 steps a day sightseeing walks. It was a unique experience as a family to go to sleep in the same room. Lots of chats and jokes. Additional pluses - a roof terrace with great views and they also do your laundry for free. Also, in spite being such a small hotel, they do luggage receiving and forwarding.

Wir danken dem Personal dass es unseren Aufenthalt so besonders gemacht hat! Das Bad ist leider nicht am Zimmer angeschlossen, in der Toilette und der Dusche wären Kleiderhaken super.

• ANTONIO (7/5): Ryokan au calme avec un personnel adorable - Petit Ryokan idéalement situé : proche des rues animées et touristiques dans le quartier de Gion, mais situé juste en retrait pour être bien au calme. Personnel absolument adorable et aux petits soins pour nous. Expérience de vie au milieu des habitants dans une maison traditionnelle japonaise à l'ameublement minimaliste mais confortable. Expérience inédite de dormir sur des futons à même le sol sur des tatamis. Roof top génial : lieu de détente avec chaises, cocon suspendu et même une baignoire d'extérieur ! Petit déjeuner traditionnel délicieux. Chambre un peu moins grande que ce que nous espérions lors de notre réservation. Question d'habitude mais déroutant pour les non habitués : les commodités étaient dans le palier sur des parties communes. Mais avec WC séparés, douches séparées, et des lavabos aux vues de tous. Pas très grave, mais déroutant. Situé dans une zone hyper touristique donc l'accès via les transports ou le taxi est compliqué car les routes et les rues sont souvent très encombrées la journée.
• Anna (10/5): Soggiorno indimenticabile - Tutto. La struttura è straordinaria. La mia camera spaziosa e arredata con gusto. Lo staff simpatico e gentilissimo. La posizione è perfetta per visitare le bellezze storiche di Kyoto. Da provare la tipica colazione giapponese. Ci ritornerei volentieri.
• Mark (9/5): Authentic Ryokan, well located with lovely attentive staff. - Fantastic location, quiet, clean and really comfortable beds! The staff were incredibly kind and friendly. Breakfast was perfect and authentic. While the toilet is outside the room, it is your exclusive toilet. Still felt private. Would highly recommend.
