Guest Reviews
- Zamfir (8/5): They had everything I needed considering my short stay - Packed my lunch the evening prior to my departure One of the staff chucked glass and the noise was unbearable, this was 9:30 lm
- Bridget (10/5): -
- Richard (8/5): Loved the retro “real” atmosphere. Too many places try to be something they are not. This is good hospitality, real welc - Great pub. Lovely atmosphere Friendly, hospitable, quaint - a real pub and home atmosphere
- Herbert (10/5): -
- Susan (8/5): -
- Bernie (6/5): - fresh cooked breakfast, offered more tea/coffee, toast. No where to put your wash bag in the bathroom.
more fresh food on the evening menu.
- Wayne (8/5): Great spot for walkers / hikers - Lovely warm welcome , large choice of home cooked food - comfortable rooms - lovely friendly little pub In a tiny village Its location and friendly pub setting
- Alex (6/5): -
- Darren (8/5): Great time - Everything Nothing
- Anthony (5/5): ok for a night or two. - Breakfast was ok. Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful village with parking round the green.
Lovely village very much off the beaten track via challenging lanes. The room felt damp and the shower was very small with a step up and down to it, tricky for some !! Good heater in the bathroom and an electric heater in the bedroom , both necessary as the radiator did not work.
- Maggie (9/5): A fabulous location with amazing food on offer. - The location is fabulous, and the food is amazing. The tv in the room was quite small.
- Peter (9/5): - Cost ,clean ,friendly,food,setting
- David (10/5): Very warm welcome, food good, staff friendly and helpful and added to our wonderful break. - Beautiful location, easy access
- Jeffrey (6/5): -
- Taylor (8/5): - The location was lovely, a beautiful picturesque village. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Although the rooms were clean and looked after, they were quite cold. We used the plug in radiator but obviously didn't want to leave that on while sleeping.
- Joanne (8/5): Was amazing friendly and helpful staff. Rooms very clean . We wanted to experience the traditional pub /inn stay in - Was exactly what I was looking for a traditional friendly country village. Perfect done
- Lucy (8/5): -
- Kevin (6/5): - Nice village Outside steps up to the room needed to be illuminated at night, there was a light but you had to go up the steps to switch it on, bedroom radiator didn't work in room 2. Shower was good. Dining was a little regimented, breakfast 9.00-9.30. Restaurant was 18.00-18.45 for orders, food was nice quality produce, although breakfast was limited (cereals and orange juice only. English breakfast, two rashers of bacon, one sausage, one egg and four grilled mini tomatoes that didn't produce much juice. Toast jam and mamalade was provided along with tea or coffee).
- Guymer (7/5): - Tv too small and poor reception. Room cold on initial visit...electric fan heater put on and ok later
- HANNA (7/5): Good for a quick stopover, but we will not be back. - The Fox and Hounds Inn is situated on West Burton, very picturesque village in Yorkshire Dales. The accommodation was in a walking distance from pub with dining area. Food was reasonably priced (£14.99 for fish and chips). Staff were nice and friendly. The room was smelling of damp and overnight the heating was switched off. Bathroom and bedroom deco was quite outdated. No decaf coffee or tea, no sweeteners . The dining area could also do with more modern look.
- Jill (7/5): Very friendly, great atmosphere in bar, good food. Nothing too much trouble. Enjoyed our overnight stay -
- June (8/5): A delightful relaxing break in exceptional countryside. - Friendly staff, excellent breakfast and cost of an evening meal in the pub. Lack of scenic view from our room, but it did not spoil our break in any way,
- John (6/5): Generally quite happy but no real personal touch/conversation with landlord. Breakfast was very good - Good location for local walks, very little traffic. Otherwise good for getting anywhere in the Dales. We were disturbed by the people in the room below us; they felt the need to jabber up until midnight so sound proofing could have been better. Not so much the fault of the pub just the inconsiderate people staying there.Could do with serving some proper coffee.
- Kay (9/5): Very satisfying - Very friendly people
- Jan (9/5): All you need in a village b&b. - The Fox and Hounds had everything we needed, complimentary toiletries, comfy bed, lovely towels, great food and beautiful village setting with a waterfall, also friendly locals. Only drawback was the chairs in the bedroom.
- David (5/5): fair - ok walking up an outside steps to the bedroom
- Holly (9/5): Lovely, thank you! - The staff were very friendly and helpful during our visit. We had a lovely meal in the pub which has a cosy and friendly feel. The location was beautiful. N/A
- James (8/5): -
- John (7/5): Would not stay again. - Breakfast excellent but far out for our needs but OK. The heating wss off when we arrived and the rooms were freezing bearing in mind it is November. The heating was put on afrer we complained. But the rooms should have been heated for our arrival.
- Richard (10/5): -
- John (7/5): - Staff friendly, lovely location. Wish I had more time to explore. . Great food. Best for keeping motorbikes safe at the back Other guests were pretty noisy
- Andrea (8/5): Lovely village setting -
- Adam (10/5): -
- Neil (10/5): Incredible value for money, in a beautiful village - Great location, very comfy bed, and excellent breakfast Nothing
- IAN WRAY (8/5): - Friendly, good food and lovely village Not a lot unless you expect luxury and a spa
- Dave (7/5): - Location
Evening meal available
Friendly staff Breakfast was not a full english , just 3 items minus half a tomato , no hash browns , baked beans , mushrooms , black pudding..
- Andrew (9/5): - Welcoming and friendly local, just right for my needs. I walked to and from this village. My host made me a packed breakfast which I was very grateful. It took me a moment, to work out how the low voltage bedside lights worked. This is very minor.
- Sheena (6/5): - Good selection of drinks at the bar.
Evening meal, good choice.
Breakfast was OK
- Emily (10/5): - Food was great. Check in was a surprise and cost extra because of a glitch with Expedias booking. Not impressed but impressed that Pat did what she could to correct it.
- Robert (7/5): -
- Sandra (8/5): - Very clean and comfortable. Friendly staff and efficient service.
- Neil (10/5): - Stunning location rooms are lovely and clean staff are lovely 👍
- Alex (8/5): - Nice old building and the village was beautiful with nice walks!
- chris (7/5): Great location, clean room, food was adequate but not inspiring, but overall inexpensive - The breakfast was very good and the person who served it very pleasant and kind The food on the specials board did not appear to be home made which was disappointing. The Pizza was fine.
- Davies (10/5): Excellent - Price, location,food,staff N/A
- Mark (10/5): -
- Sutton (5/5): Great location, great food but room and facilities below par. - The location and the food, particularly the breakfast and the restaurant staff, particularly at breakfast. It was clean and serviced daily with tea coffee and biscuits replaced every time. The room was OK, but it was very difficult to access up a steep winding set of steps. The dividing wall between my room 2 and the adjoining room 1 must be wafer thin as I sat every night listening to the occupants TV. The portable heater had a broken supporting leg, and the shower didn't work at all.
Parking was a lottery, and whilst I was lucky, most of the time, I and other residents were often parked some distance away, and this was not what I expected from the details supplied.
- Gareth (9/5): -
- Michael (8/5): -
- Suzanne (6/5): -
- Julie (7/5): - Location great Bedrooms needed some modernisation
- Stacy (10/5): - I don't know where to start I wish we were staying longer. From arriving, being settling in, the meals, the service, the locals, the surrounding area, was just all perfect. We will definitely be returning in the future when we in the area again, very gutted it is so far from our home otherwise it went would be visiting more often.
- Samantha (4/5): A disappointment - would not recommend, however good location. - Good location, clean room & swift check in. Staff friendly. Pub & rooms very dated - could be charming, but needs some love putting back into it. General upkeep & maintenance of the facilities needs attention. Detail below:
Room smelled damp & had cheap dehumidifiers on windowsill.
Poor breakfast options - nothing for vegetarians except eggs / beans. Could have Quorn sausages in freezer?
Pillows very hard & too high, unable to get a comfortable height.
Shower pressure & temperature fluctuates frequently - doesn’t work properly.
No hooks inside room - bathroom one had been ripped off
Tap in sink’s pressure too forceful meaning water floods onto floor
Curtains thin & light in colour - lets light through, so room very bright.
- Paul (10/5): - A traditional English pub set in the village green in this beautiful village. Walkable to Aysgarth Falls. Great value pub food and nice staff. Overall a lovely stop off for us on the way up to the Scottish Highlands.
- Tim (9/5): -
- Judith (10/5): Wonderful little hotel: nothing is too much troubl - Very clean throughout. Small shower cubicle but water lovely and hot. Free wifi and breakfast, with a tasty selection of foods. We also enjoyed a reasonably priced evening meal and a drink in the friendly bar. Beautiful village and area in general. Great communication, friendly service and excellent value for money, with special deals advertised for Christmas and Bonfire Night bundles. Will definitely return for a longer stay.
- Sandra (10/5): -
- Ian (10/5): - Very clean spacious bedroom, good breakfast, war. Welcome
- Kenneth (8/5): -
- Sally (6/5): Lovely village location and an unspoilt, traditional pub. Don't expect to return. - Breakfast not served until 9am which was too late. Packed lunch offered instead but was poor quality.
- Peter (8/5): - There is no parking. Noisy in evenings but it is a pub.Rooms are tight for space
- Woollam (8/5): -
- David (2/5): Very nice comfortable stay. - We were welcomed and given full details about stay All was very nice, breakfast would be nice to start at 8.30am
- Berry (10/5): - Beautiful location just off Wensleydale so a beautiful location without the hordes of visitors. Lots of local dog walks. All the staff were very friendly and it was lovely to have virtually our own entrance to our room. A proper dog friendly pub. Excellent food, much locally sourced. Would definitely stay again.
- dallas heywood (10/5): -
- Victoria (8/5): - Location was fantastic for lots of sightseeing NA
- Lynsey (10/5): Friendly staff great value for money - Lovely area Nothing all good
- David (6/5): A little disappointing overall. But still enjoyable - Great location, very friendly staff and locals. Yard area was quite messy. Food was basic and the breakfast had no beans or mushrooms and was very bland and dry. Good service though.
- David (9/5): One night stay, lovely little quiet village, if I’m coming back to that area would definitely think about staying again - Lovely old pub , with nice friendly staff
Food and drinks good value Bed not very comfortable in room 3
- Robert (10/5): -
- graham (7/5): - Beautiful area Poor breakfast very little choice
- Neil (6/5): July visit to the Dales - When we booked in they didn't have our name on their list or that we had a dog. The room we were given was a little dated considering the amount we had paid and comparing against other properties that we had stayed at. The food was very good and the service was quick. Wifi was non existant in the bedroom but fine in the pub. All the staff were nice. The village itself was beautiful.
- philip (10/5): Lovely stay ,enjoyed it all including the meal in the evening. - The room was very clean and a good size. The breakfast was lovely full English and was very tasty and cooked perfectly. The service was good and all staff were very friendly. A lovely location Every was good but i would like to say .We we’re in room 6 and had difficulty locking the door and there was no water coming out of the hot tap . Apart from that everything was very good
- Mcnaught (10/5): Neil Mcnaught's holiday - Everyone was very friendly and can't fault the staff. There was nothing I didn't like
- Matthew (7/5): Beautiful village. Lovely pub, customer care could be improved. - The Cooke made me a bacon and egg sandwich which was appreciated.
However, the earliest I could have breakfast was 8:45am Sign on the toilet for customers use only!
Imagine a parent with a youngster who needs the toilet.
I couldn’t order a drink in the dining room.
- sue (4/5): -
- ELAINE (7/5): Lovely break at a great location. - The breakfast was a highlight excellent produce from local butcher. Too many dogs inside bar area, great for owners but not for us.
- Dave (10/5): -
- Tom (10/5): -
- Brian (9/5): - Very friendly staff, beautiful location. Beer!
- suzanne (7/5): A pleasant short stay - Lovely pub. Friendly in the evening. Food was good- nothing fancy. Reasonably priced food and drinks It was a little uncomfortable at breakfast when we said we were vegetarian. There were no real options if we didn’t want sausage and bacon. Clearly it was the sense of humour of the man serving but if we had been more easily offended then it could have been awkward
- Murray (7/5): A lovely way to spend the last two days of my holiday - Situated in the centre of the dales, clean comfortable stay Too short a stay?
- Nigel (10/5): -
- sianne (10/5): -
- Glenys (10/5): - Very simple checking in.
- John (2/5): - We did not stay. There was no parking spaces available. Access to the room was limited for an older person with slight mobility issues. We booked a more accessible hotel.
- Ursula (9/5): -
- Smith (10/5): -
- Mary (9/5): -
- Per (8/5): -
- N (8/5): Friendly, homely and welcoming - The host is very friendly and the property it really nice, bed was a little hard, but nothing to complain about, food and drink at the pub are great and reasonably priced, very homely feel, welcoming and friendly.
Watch out though there are a few pubs called the Fox and Hounds in the area, so make sure you go to the right one.
- Steve (9/5): -
- Carmine (10/5): - Good 👍 Everything
- Barbara (8/5): Very good stay, perfect for the visits we had planned, good location. - The bacon was over cooked on my husbands plate. If he had had known he would have had beans on toast. He was never asked, or told what options there were. Otherwise it was good. nothing
- Katharine (8/5): - There's a small-scale personal feel to the place. It has a great location overlooking the village green in an exceptionally pretty village. Most of the rooms are in annexes or accessed from outside. Nothing luxurious, but clean and comfortable. Home made pies were hearty and good, and the breakfast had good bacon and sausages.
- Jason (10/5): - Freindly staff lovely rooms that were very clean bar and food were excellent
- Daryl (10/5): Love the Fox and Hounds. - A wonderful old pub in the middle of scenic walks.
Very comfy rooms out back with wifi.
The bar though small was friendly and welcoming.
Drinks are well priced compared to other pubs.
Evening meals in the dining room are super tasty
Our Breakfast was lovely.
Recommend highly.
- Jane (6/5): Small but comfortable. - Small room but had all the basics & was comfortable. Was in room 2 & was woken early by daylight flooding in through the window as the curtains were so thin & also the door having a glass top with only a net on. Really needs black out blinds or eye masks provided. Free WiFi but couldn't connect for longer than a couple of minutes at a time as signal was so poor. Only place I've ever stayed & not asked what I would like for breakfast, just got what we were given.
- Anthony Peter (8/5): Survival with a power cut - We arrived a little late but had already been contacted as to whether we needed an evening meal and were given a time. Meal was ok. After the meal there was a power cut in the village. The Pub quickly found the cause of the power cut, how long it would last etc and provided us with a strong torch. We had to leave before breakfast the next day but were offered and given a packed lunch in lieu of breakfast which was great.
