Guest Reviews
- Y (6/5): Clean large room but basic facilities - A convenient location for our weekend plans at Bury Farm equestrian centre. Clean large room and comfortable bed, plenty of parking, good communication from host re check in procedures. The heating didn’t work and an electric heater really did very little to warm a large room. Poor lighting, & one of the only 2 table lamps had a blown bulb. Wi-Fi didn’t work. Coffee and tea provided but unlike our last stay no milk in fridge or little uht pots. No breakfast provided (we were aware of this) , but no microwave to be able to cook own, like eggs or porridge. Some of the info on the sheet re local facilities incorrect-thank goodness for google maps!
- Toni (10/5): - Clean, comfortable, quiet and great location for our needs. Great communication from host.
- Doreen (10/5): Have stayed before just right for visiting famiily -
- Higgins (10/5): Relaxing - Nice and quiet Nothing
- Vicki (9/5): -
- Sharon (9/5): Great stay. Nice place - Was lovely and clean . Easy to find. Great communication Would have liked a summer duvet but it really wasn't a problem
- alison (10/5): Lovely stay at the stables would definitely stay again. - Perfect location to meet up with family. The stables were clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our weekend. It was a warm weekend and part of the floor was warm under foot. Couldn't get the window open in the bathroom so only small window in bedroom for ventilation. There was a fan which helped.
- Ruth-Ann (9/5): Great place for a short visit. - The location was superb! Our friend was travelling with his wife while he did some work for us on our house, and I booked the room for them. I thought the price was a bit high for just an ensuite room, but having the canal just outside made up for that. Would definitely book again. Located near the lovely village of Ivinghoe which has a lovely pub and great walks nearby. There were a few flies and wasps which was annoying at night, but given the location and time of year, it was to be expected. Nothing you can do to change that really. There was fly spray in the room, which was a good touch.
- Katie (10/5): We loved our stay, it was very nice and cosy. - Edward was amazing, amazing place we have booked for next year already Absolutely nothing to dislike
- Jane (8/5): Perfect for our needs. - Great location and lovely room. Lovely barge cafe. Nothing!
- Lesley (9/5): Overall clean, comfortable and quite acceptable. - As I was staying on my own I was a little worried about location. It is a bit isolated.
Bed was very comfortable. Linens were immaculately clean. I should have realised that the location was somewhat isolated, but that was my mistake. Had I been in company it wouldn’t have been a problem.
- Kevin (8/5): Comfortable, clean and great value for money will certainly go back - Clean tidy a nice place to stay Internet and TV not working
- Coinin (8/5): Very good -
- Marianne (7/5): A bit disappointed regarding broken arrangement for supplying breakfast. - Comfortable and clean. Continental breakfast promised but no breakfast provided either day.
- Lesley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Doreen (10/5): Best one stayed in while visiting family - Location was good visiting family so had breakfast with them on second morning but a good complementary breakfast on barge Nothing
- Joane (8/5): Very good - The Wi-Fi password and information about local eateries left in the room would be good.
- Louise (10/5): Rooms comfy enough and shower! Lights desperately needed for drive and property approach some signage would be helpful a - Location perfect for bury farm equestrian centre! Arrived in total darkness had to open a gate for driveway quite intimidating for a lady alone in middle of field with no lights at all, really feel investing in some lights and signage to rooms a good investment
- Amanda (10/5): Beautiful place we will hopefully return - One night stay for 8 people attending a wedding near by, lovely location, clean rooms, tea/coffee making facilities
Host very accommodating , especially as we were asking to enter rooms early on the day. Thank you N/a
- Lynda (7/5): Nice rooms - shame about the building work. - We have stayed here a few times. Rooms are warm, large, clean and well presented, although there are now a few signs of wear and tear. It's a handy location for visiting our family in Leighton Buzzard. When we first visited, breakfast was available on site. Now there's an independently run vegan barge nearby only. We didn't actually try it as the weather was not great during our stay, but the people seemed pleasant enough.
The venue is unmanned, so you are wholly reliant on text/email comms from the owner. This always makes me uneasy as you need your phone and network connection in order to receive this.
There is work now going on on site, with two dwellings under construction, so I imagine quite noisy during working hours.
It's such a shame as it could be so much nicer. It is dog friendly though so that is a bonus. Just feel it needs more tlc.
- Marion (8/5): Very good -
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jayne (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely comfortable bed and very clean Didn't like vegan bardge
- Fiona (6/5): Basic accommodation - Bed was comfortable. Fairly quiet location despite being next to a busy road. Appreciated having a fridge in the room as it was so hot there that I had to keep putting my phone in the fridge to cool it down-it wouldn’t charge otherwise. I’m not sure why the owner gives complicated directions to find it. It is simply listed as “The Brownlow” on Google maps. It is right on the canal but on the side without the tow path. The building has a sign on it that says “The Brownlow Lodge”. The entrance is actually further down the road where there is a sign to the “Buddha Barge”, which wasn’t open when I arrived or left-I see other guests were able to get food there. The water in the room was never actually cold. No shampoo or conditioner or soap in the shower. Directly under the flight path during certain times of the day. Wifi didn’t work consistently and was extremely slow when it did work. Owner responded to some questions but not all.
- Gillian (9/5): Great location and lovely rooms, perfect for sharing with friends and family - Great location next to the canal, we had 4 lovely rooms, all very clean and comfortable with everything we needed, and with the outdoor seating as well it was perfect for our family to be together. The owners couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. So happy to have found Brownlow! Not a lot to dislike, the owners have thought of everything.
- Elizabeth (8/5): A great place to stay for a couple of nights. - A clean room with a comfortable bed and large bathroom in a quiet location. Outside space for sitting outside.
- Fiona (8/5): Very good -
- Eastwood (9/5): Superb -
- Jessica (8/5): Clean and cosy, perfect for what we needed. - Nice bathroom. Good sized room. Lovely location, a little bit out the way but only a 10min drive to shops etc Lack of plug sockets- bring an extension cable!
Loud! Rooms are very acoustic and unfortunately our neighbours kept coming home late and not making much effort to be quiet. The tiled floor and high roof makes everything very loud
- Rosie (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (9/5): i thoroughly enjoyed my stay - didnt see any breakfast,,,,,but the location was great the tele didnt work when i was there but not a big problem,,,,,,,,,
- Jacomijn (9/5): Good value for money - Comfortable, spacious room with enormous bathroom. Good bed. Nice location at a canal where we had tea and home made pastries in a barge that was owned by a lovely lady. There is no staff at the venue. You enter your room with a code which they send you by text message, only I never received the message and did not even know this was the procedure. We travelled with friends who did receive their code so I was able to reach the contact person through them but to would have been quite disastrous otherwise. Also we arrived in the dark and as the English country side can get pitch back after dark, we had a bit of an issue finding it as the whole place including the signs was unlit.
- Shelly (1/5): Bad - Didn’t answer so I couldn’t get in to property Didn’t get in to property
- Neville (8/5): Very good - The room was comfortable, liked the way we were text to say which room we were having and to locate the key . The coffee machine we didn't understand the instructions and also couldn't get the TV to work properly..The price was expensive for what we had.Cobwebs in the bathroom.
- Leese (5/5): Pleasant - No breakfast. Bowls were supplied. Milk out of date. A toaster Would have been useful. Better table and chairs outside.
Many thanks for the free car charging overnight.
- Walton (7/5): Comfortable but expensive for what we received - more care on cleanliness. - A quiet location next to the canal. Spacious bedroom and bathroom. Comfortable bed and thoughtful tea/coffee facilities. Thankful to have had the barge café close to enjoy coffee and vegan cake in the morning (no breakfast facilities in the accommodation). Initially had trouble getting into the property. Tried to get advice from owner using the methods advised (WhatsApp, direct phone), but no response. Gloomy rooms with not much light. Areas were not clean. Mess on the window sill and floor, soap ring around the base of the soap dispenser, sink plug needed aa descale and didn't work. Coffee machine had not been emptied from previous user and the pod was mouldy.
Emergency exit light in one room was ridiculously bright - disrupted sleep.
Having no breakfast option wasn't ideal as no shops close and no self catering facilities. (Thankfully a café on the canal opened at 10 for a coffee).
- Steve (5/5): Convenient and clean, basic, no frills accommodation. - Close to where we needed to be for a wedding reception There was no hot water for showers in the morning and no basic toiletries - the cower was responsive to the issue.
- Paul (8/5): Beautiful property in stunning rural location. A few minor niggles being addressed would make it a perfect choice. - This is a stunning property in a beautiful and unique canal side location. The rooms are really nicely appointed and the under floor heating is amazing when it is cold weather like we had. The barges on the canal are a very unique view. The shower temperature was very low in both rooms.
Compared to the wide number of places we visit the guest information is non existent. It is very rural and we had no idea where anything was.
Given the rooms are so nice these two points are area’s that are very necessary.
- Debbie (8/5): Very good -
- Hazel (3/5): Nice room spoilt by shoddy customer care, and no breakfast when its advertised as a B&B! - The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. Lovely quiet location and plenty of free parking. Terrible guest relations from the owner. He said I could book in at 1300, but the only person there to meet me was one of the workmen. He did his best poor guy, but he took the brunt of my displeasure. What made matters worse, even when he found out how to get into my room, was that when I enquired at what time Breakfast was, imagine my surprise when he said there wasnt any! Most guests apparently are workmen who dont want breakfast who are up adn off at the crack of sparrows! I was livid! Firstly, if you're not going to offer breakfast, why say you are on your website. Secondly, I had two emails with the owner and at neither point dd he think to tell me that there was no breakfast even though this is advertised as a BnB! To make matters worse it is located in the middle of no where (fine if all catering is done) and so I had to got back from whence I had jsut come to Leighton Buzzard to get some breakfast etc in Tesco for the next morning! Not a good start to a stay and very stressful after a long journey. THere was no one there when I left either. Also, I tried calling the numbe but no response and had to search around for the email to get in touch with the owner to ask my questions. Shoddy guest relations when one is running a business where customer care matters, I felt that I was an inconvenience. I have requested a refund as it was that bad.
- Mark (9/5): Excellent for what i needed for 3 night stop over for work. - Breakfast wasn't included. Room was excellent had everything that i needed for a work stop over.
Very clean and tidy lovely size rooms. great bathroom and shower.
Excellent idea to have a key safe to make access easy . Only on a personal basis just could have done with somewhere to eat nearby as local pubs don't do food on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Although only a 15 minute drive back into Tring where there were plenty of choices to eat.
- Richard (6/5): Nice room but hot water is a must - Clean and attractive room in a good location for my needs No hot water morning or evening
- Tracey (10/5): Very good accommodation, thank you. - Very clean and fresh. Decor is as lovely without being too modern. The lights weren’t on in our room when we arrived but that’s fine 😊
- Jan (9/5): Superb - Room was clean comfortable and warm which was appreciated on a chilly February day. Ideal for short stay trips. Good base to visit family in Leighton Buzzard. Bit more expensive than other local hotels etc but lovely environment by the side of the canal. Good to have a small fridge in the cupboard for milk etc. Although a busy road runs directly behind the accommodation we didn't really notice the traffic noise. Excellent water pressure in bathroom so shower was very good. Didn' t seem to be any other guests to it was really quiet. Good car parking alongside accommodation. Overall it suited our purpose and would stay there again. Just minor issues -Although there was a double and a single bed in the room there was only 2 mugs. Ok for us as only 2 persons on trip. WiFi very slow and only one person in the room could use it at a time - this may be to do with the location but fairly frustrating at times. Fire exit sign was broken, although green light was on the cover was missing. Coasters for hot mugs to save wooden surfaces would be beneficial-we used folded tissues. Tightened lamp shade holder to lamp as shade was hanging down, only took a few seconds so no idea why the housekeeper hadn't attended to it. WHB was of low design so had to put water in a glass to fill kettle as not enough space to put kettle under tap.
- Suzanne (7/5): Ok - Location fine Kettle leaking so couldn’t make a drink & tv wouldn’t work
- Gary (9/5): Brownlow Stables - We had a courtesy call for our arrival time and was met on arrival by calling to say we were there, pleasant chat about the facilities and surroundings, help offered if required. Good parking, close to the canal, nice viewing and walking. Although we were the only guests within several stable rooms the plumbing sounded like someone had flushed at least a couple of times during the night. Occasional traffic noise during the night. Not big problems. Doesn't do breakfast so you need to sort something yourself.
- Lorraine (8/5): The room and the surroundings are beautiful. - The location is lovely. The room is good and has all that is needed for our 1 night stay. The property feels very secure. The people in the room opposite got back to the room very late and we were able to hear them playing music and talking. The walls seem thin.
- Rebecca (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (9/5): Great - Great setting and good sized room for the three of us. The host was very pleasant and made us feel very welcome. Perfect all round for what we needed. There was nothing we really didn't like, some road noise during the night was the only slight negative, other than that nothing further to add.
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (6/5): Adequate, but priced accordingly - Bathroom facilities were much better than expected; glorious walk-in shower. Ample parking Not easy to find for the first time in the dark (perhaps use W3W for precise location). Tiled floor in bedroom could be both noisy and cold.
- Steven (7/5): Jiggy neighbours - Parking, room size and decor. The gates need taking further back from the road. Drain in shower can't take the water fast enough. Gap under shower screen makes no sense. Noise from some people getting jiggy when trying to sleep
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Emma (7/5): Convenient for us . Clean, nice room - Clean . Perfect for quick nights stay.
Great to have a fridge The room was so so hot with no means to turn down/ off whatever was making it so hot. Too uncomfortable to sleep properly.
- Catherine (10/5): Lovely stay - would highly recommend! - The room was lovely, with very well thought out amenities (eg fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, use of space). The bathroom was very well done, with a great shower, lovely towels and a nice velux for natural light. The location really suited me as I was competing at Bury Farm, with the host being easily contactable and going above and beyond to help with accommodating my truck.
The host was incredibly friendly and informative, and had I had any problems I imagine he would have been easily contactable and on them right away.
- Paul (9/5): welcoming and clean, simple room but had everything needed for a short stay - room and facilities very clean and everything needed was available difficult to find, signage from the road very limited
- Marshall (7/5): Good -
