The food didn't live up to the reviews but we were given a great takeaway breakfast. The WiFi system is a real pain, needing new login codes and passwords all the time

Gunasekera (5/5): If overall staff quality can be improved, it would be a very nice place to stay. - Located in an easily accessible place. Clean and tidy. Rooms are spacious. Comfortable to stay. Information sharing is not much accurate. Very less number of staff working there. After about 10pm, only security guard is there for every task, no receptionist or anyone to call or inquire at night.

Rozemarie (7/5): Oké - Mooie tuin met veel vogels, eekhoorns en apen. Je kunt hier heerlijk tot rust komen. Zwembad goed. In de buurt van de toeristische plaatsen. Poolbiljard is leuk. Beetje oude tafel maar leuk om te doen. Vriendelijke, vrolijke en erg behulpzame medewerkers. Bed was prima en we vonden het fijn om een groot balkon te hebben dat uitkijkt op de tuin. Met een tuk tuk kun je makkelijk naar het station en de stad. Je kunt fietsen huren. Ik weet niet of ze goed zijn. Misschien komen we een keer terug. Maar er zijn verbeterpunten. Dakrand lekt waardoor er roestig water op het balkon valt. Tegels in het zwembad kapot en scherpe randen. Veel chemicaliën in het zwembad. Maar we zagen gasten zonder douchen het zwembad in gaan en in het zwembad plassen. Er mogen meer ligstoelen bij het zwembad. Wifi werkt met een code en die verviel steeds. Handdoeken versleten. Geen koelkast aanwezig. Ontbijt is geen buffet. Ze brengen het aan tafel. Je mag geen eten van buitenaf meenemen. Maar we kregen 2 van de 3 keren ontbijt geen fruit. Ze wilden dat we bijbetaalden voor een extra ei, terwijl we geen vlees, vis en kip aten. Late checkout moet betaald worden. De regels zijn aan de binnenkant van de deur geplakt. Dit soort details vinden wij niet zo gastvrij. We vinden de prijs wat te hoog voor wat we kregen.

Miguel (10/5): - The service was very friendly, outstanding, and ever willing to facilitate our needs, every member of staff was absolutely outstanding, non more so than the ever willing Sahil. The swimming pool is big and very clean, as are the gardens. Loved watching the butterflies, birds and monkeys from our very, very large balcony. The room has a fantastic wet room, with a jacuzzi type corner bath and two showers, unfortunately not all the systems are connected to the hotel water.

Charitha Dias (1/5): - Restaurant staff were amazing and respectful. Foods were amazing. We've booked a Family Room with four single beds and a garden view, but the room provided was completely different from what was advertised. The kitchen area was locked, and I was told I would need to pay LKR 5,000 to use it, or LKR 3,000 if the staff cooked for us. We had to request an extra bed and ended up sleeping in the living room and the staff provided a mattress with stained sheets which was absolutely disgusting. The staff member responded disrespectfully when we asked about these issues and showed some attitude by trying to pull the sheets and head out of the bedroom. Later, brought a good mattress after explaining the situation and why it wasn't hygienic. The hot water pump did not work initially and the room had exposed wiring around the mirror. Half of the equipment advertised on Booking.com wasn't provided. Overall, this was a misleading listing and a very uncomfortable stay. I would not recommend it unless significant improvements are made.

En plus la piscine est vraiment agréable. Un bon endroit pour partir à la découverte des sites historiques Les vélos louer pour visiter les sites étaient un peu fatigué.

Jane (7/5): A comfortable overnight stay - Large suite. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was very good and tasty. Bathroom- It was a wet room so soaked the entire floor. Not something I like. Water pressure was poor. No hot water at all from rainfall shower. Nor into the bath. Wall shower functioned and gave hot water but the switch to start the water was so high I couldn't reach at all. My husband had to stretch up to on/off the water. Maybe something could be done about this for future guests of 5ft 2🙂

Udeshika (10/5): - We booked 2 family rooms and one triple room for 11 adults and spent one night there. The location was really relaxing and nice. Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. We were warmly welcomed by the receptionist and served us a really good welcome drink. Wifi connection was good but needed to get new user names and passwords for wifi access after completing the usage of 1GB in each phone. I think if they can increase the data limit, it will be easier to all guests and as well as to the hotel staff too. We extended the check out time untill 1:30 p.m. with paying a very small amount. I can recommend this hotel to everyone. Good Luck Citadel 👍

Gently refurbished, preserving the old art deco details and yet with a fresh and up-to-date feel. Very clean and lots of space. Wonderfull breakfast with a choice for every diet. Fatemeh (10/5): Amazing stay - Staff were so helpful and considerate ,both the manager and the guy who served us at restaurant. They even managed to prepare us breakfast the days that we had to leave before breakfast time. Tours they offer also have the best price. Swimming pool was very beautiful and large. Breakfast is great especially oat pancakes with coconut filling Unfortunately, Only 2 of the staffs could speak English and when they weren’t present like at late night, communication with others was impossible.

Chaminda (5/5): Check which room you’re getting before booking. They differ a lot - Check in was fine. Staff helpful. Breakfast ok We were given a room on ground floor which looked like an old building. Room was awful with mould & damp in corner wall. Towels looked dirty & bathroom shower wasn’t working. We complained & they couldn’t fix shower. It was quite late at night so they moved us to a newer building on 1st floor which was much better. Bigger room & shower & balcony.

Padula (8/5): Exceptional Stay at Gamodh Citadel Resort - Anuradhapura - I stumbled upon Gamodh Citadel Resort during my recent trip to Anuradhapura, and I'm so glad I did! This place is truly fantastic. Its location is ideal, being within easy reach of all the major religious sites in the city. The staff were incredibly friendly and professional, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. My room was spotless and comfortable, providing a relaxing haven after a day of exploring. The breakfast options were a delightful touch, with both Eastern and English selections to cater to various tastes. I highly recommend Gamodh Citadel Resort to anyone visiting Anuradhapura. It's an excellent choice for a comfortable and convenient stay.

We did request a room change as the 1st one offered felt like a dungeon. 2nd room was much better but the property is tired and in need a refresh of paint and furnishings. Food was good and pool was lovely to cool off in. Property is in need of refurbishment, especially the bedrooms and bathrooms. The potential for this property to be gorgeous is there.

Harischandra (8/5): It was value for money. - Our stay at Anuradapura was mainly for pilgrimage and part time work on line. It was just 10 min drive to important places like sri maha bodi and Maha seya. The breakfast was prepared according to our request and it staisfies our need. Bathroom getting wet as the shower area is not covered by a glass partition or simple curtain. The free wifi data offered was not enough even for one day and we were not informed about free top up.

Kenneth (10/5): Lovely place, lovely people. Would definitely stay there again. - Fantastic pool cleaned every morning. Great to sit near under the trees in the shade with a cold beer after a hot days safari! All the Staff were great. So accommodating helpful and friendly. A great cook; tasty breakfasts and curry dinners! Internet was ok but the process to connect was a bit old fashioned.
Lawrence (8/5): Good hotel with great pool in quiet area. - Nice room on the first floor with a very big balcony. Great garden area and large pool, which was very welcome after visiting the town and cultural attractions. There was some building work going on in rooms adjacent to the pool area but this was not too noisy. Friendly helpful staff. Reasonable breakfast. It is quiet with lots of wildlife about. The hotel is c5km to main attractions and 6km to new town centre. However it is unlikely we would have got such a large room with pool in such a nice setting for the price closer to the city centre.

Eranga (10/5): A beautiful hotel, friendly staff and delicious food. - Beautiful hotel in a great location for anyone who wants to experience what Anuradhapura has to offer. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The breakfast was included with our stay and we opted for the Sri Lankan style breakfast. It was so delicious and we ordered the same for the second day as well. Overall a very positive experience and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to spend time in Anuradhapura. Nothing.

Claude (10/5): A recommander - Un bien agréable séjour dans cet hôtel. Le personnel est très attentif, la piscine grande, le cadre agréable. On peut ne pas aimer le lavabo non séparé de la chambre mais cela ne nous a pas gênés. Un rice and curry vraiment excellent.
Mallika (2/5): - We had booked two rooms, prepaid through Expedia, but the hotel said they had only one. They did not even give us the keys to that room and made us wait in the lobby for 3 hours. The manager and staff did nothing to help till my husband agreed to pay for one room again. Till now, they have not refunded this double payment, even though Expedia assured us they will. I would not go there again.

Michael (10/5): Great stay - I stayed 4 nights and really everything was great. Lovely smiling helpful staff, good dinners and breakfasts (especially the Sri Lankan which was huge with enough leftovers for lunch), lovely garden and pool, comfortable room. Only the decor of my room was a little dull and could do with some homely touches/art/colour, but it had everything I needed. The local area has no restaurants that I could find but this did not bother me as the food in the hotel was good
