Guest Reviews
- Johan (10/5): Fantastic ryokan with small, but beautiful Onsen! - The breakfast was a fantastic ryokan set menu. Everything was very nicely prepared and presented and tasted marvellous.
The small Onsen was delightful with a view over Itō.
The staff where very friendly and helpful.
It was an overall perfect stay.

- Alicia (10/5): Amazing ryokan experience. - Very pleasant stay. Kind staff that recommended me places to visit. I highly recommend getting the dinner and breakfast.

- Cindy (9/5): A charming and welcoming place to stay in Ito. - The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The outdoor onsen was particularly nice, the food was delicious and beautifully presented ,and as a solo traveler they made me feel welcome and comfortable. There was only cold water available at the sink in the room and the wifi was out for most of my stay. Hopefully that was just a glitch and not a frequent occurrence.
- Robert (10/5): Yokikan, Ito — A Stay Above the Ordinary I'm - Staying at Yokikan was one of the true highlights of my travels. As a traditional Japanese onsen ryokan, it offers an authentic experience that feels both welcoming and quietly transportive. As a non-Japanese guest, I especially appreciated the clear, thoughtful explanations of how everything works—supported by helpful materials in the room—so I could relax into the rhythm rather than worry about getting it right.
The onsen baths are the heart of the experience. The upper outdoor bath, in particular, is unforgettable—set above the town, open to the air, and deeply calming. It feels less like a simple soak and more like stepping into a different pace of life.
I chose to have dinner one evening, served in the room, and it was exceptional. A kaiseki-style meal with a remarkable variety of dishes, each gorgeously presented and carefully prepared. The experience felt both intimate and quietly ceremonial, a highlight in its own right.
Ito itself makes for a great home base to explore the area—coastal, relaxed, and easy to move through. I stayed for two nights, which felt just right: enough time to settle in, unwind, and fully appreciate what makes this place special.
Yokikan doesn’t try to impress in obvious ways. Its appeal is more subtle—and more lasting.
- Jacques (10/5): Don't miss this one of a kind ryokan. - What a charming traditional ryokan.
We loved everything about it and felt like we were in another world.
The hospitality is next level. Thank you. Everything was fantastic.
- Komeya (10/5): -
- Mariana (9/5): Great onsen, impeccable place and very friendly staff - The staff, the food, the onsen at the top of the hill, the old charm of the place. The futon mattresses felt a bit old and thin, have slept in better ones. And the pillows could be much better as well.

- timon (10/5): friendly tradional ryokan. - lovely, kind staff , traditional onsen, everything great nothing to complain. Would recommend it.
- Saori (10/5): -
- Tongke (10/5): - The hosts are awesome. I was there with a toddler and I was worried if my non-stop toddler would be too noisy in a quiet ryokan. But it turned out the employees were being very nice and patient to our kid.
The food is also amazing. You can feel how thoughtful when they prepared the food. With the reasonable price, you will not regret. I am looking forward to visiting it again. None.
- Lawrence (10/5): Great experience, would stay here again and recommend to friends! - Loved the property and the staff for my first ryokan experience! Was greeted by Sen who carefully explained all of the protocols and how everything worked. My room met my expectations and the onsen was superb. Appreciated the water dispenser in the lobby. Excellent dining options within a 10 minute walk. The ryokan is uphill from most of the town, but the hill is not steep. Upon checking out, the owner graciously drove me to the train station. Exceptional service all around! Scalded my hand on the hot water tap in my bathroom sink. The water was so hot I was angered that there was no warning. When my pain diminished, I did notice a sign above the sink, but it was tiny. Perhaps informing guests about the hot water temperature during the introductory session would be a good idea.
- Chih-Chieh (10/5): Wundervolles Erlebnis!
Vielen herzlichen Dank an Yokikan! Mir fällt nichts Negatives ein.
- Natalia (10/5): -
- Evgeniya (7/5): Nice facility and kaiseki, but service could be improved - Beautiful hot springs location upstairs, extremely enjoyable, with a cute old funicular leading to it, in general, beautiful facility, good tasting and beautifully served kaiseki, foot massage machine. Service spoiled slightly the relaxation from hot springs
1. One of my friends is a slow eater, perhaps, his fault, yet last&main dish of the dinner was taken away from him, together with everything else, when he just started eating it, with no way to stop it. If it was the requirement to finish all kaiseki within 35-40 minutes, it would have been nice to be warned (there was nothing regarding in printed rules)
2. When desert was brought in, lady dropped one of the mint soufflés she was carrying on the floor, and she just put it back on the plate and went away(???).
3. Breakfast was agreed to be at 8am. We were going to wake up at 7:40 & open door, which we closed for the night. At 7:35 door opens with a key(?), stuff stormes in, switches on light and starts telling us to stand up like in the elementary school days, while taking the futons away, basically pulling them right from under us. A friend had headphones on, one of them fell out in the sheets, which were rolled away & put with others in the drawer, so we spent 15 minutes after unfolding and folding each piece of bedding, to find them.
I don’t believe anything what happened is justified
- Olga (10/5): It was calme, tasty and very relaxing. We loved this place. -

- Konstantin (10/5): Book and come here, you’ll never regret of this choice. - Absolutely gorgeous authentic and cozy place, perfect spot to slow down and recharge your resources.
- Tim Yan (10/5): - Cozy ryokan, well kept
Great food and nice aunties serving us in the room even they do not speak english
Special outdoor onsen with nice view, the small tram to onsen is one of a kind
- Malin (10/5): An extraordinary ryokan with a beautiful rooftop onsen bath - We had a fabulous stay at Yokikan in Itō!
This was our second time at this wonderful ryokan, and we were very happy to be back! Our apartment was spacious and offered plenty of room and a nice view. We slept very well on the comfortable tatami mats. The rooftop onsen is to die for - so beautiful and relaxing. The location was perfect for us; a calm area, but only a shorter walk to Itō station and shops. The hotel staff is exceptionally friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed. They also gave us a lift to the station at the day for our departure, a great service. We highly recommend to order dinner at the hotel, where you dine in a private room and get an exquisite meal prepared just for you.
Thank you so much for a memorable stay, we would love to come back in the future! We were happy with everything. Maybe a second towel for the onsen would have been good, but the towels were changed every day.
- Panagiotis (9/5): -
- Kotova (8/5): -
- Magdalena (8/5): Traditionell japanisch, schone Anlage uralte heisse Quelle ! - Authentisch. Traditionell. Sehr zuvorkommend.
- Scott (10/5): What a delight of an experience. Exactly what I was looking for. Lovely and caring staff, delightful breakfast, excellen -
- Anastasiya (9/5): Can recommend - It was a first time experience for us with onsen but we really liked it.
Dinner was incredible! Breakfast was good though my husband didn’t enjoy it as much.
Sleep was comfortable but we woke up at 4am because room was bright (nothing blocked the sun) Our room key didn’t lock the door at all
There is almost nothing to do nearby in the city especially in the evening
- Vladimir (10/5): Exceptional - As two westerners, we thought the dinner (kaiseki) would be an "interesting experience", but it was ACTUALLY DELICIOUS
- Kalisetty (10/5): Its very wholesome - The food was amazing. Kudos to the chef. The open air onsen experience was just what I needed.
- Hanna (9/5): Superb -
- Geoffrey (10/5): Excellent place to unwind, with great access to the rest of the Izu coastline. The outdoor onsen is -
- Sazhit (9/5): Great ryokan to stay. Definitely visit again. - Great value for money.
Very nice personnel and owner.
Great bathes, outdoor and indoor. Train-elevator adds some charm.
Food is great, enjoyed both dinner and breakfast.
- Elizaveta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (9/5): It was still an enjoyable stay. - Very clean & spacious . Great service and yummy kaiseki + breakfast 1) No elevator to assist us with bringing 2 big suitcases to our room on 2nd floor from lobby. We are seniors :(
2) Pretty stingy on small onsen towels compared to other ryokans which we’d patronized before. Only 1 small towel provided to every guest for entire day.
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional - The Owner is a great man! fluently English speaking. cozy please cozy room, big, clean and so beautiful f rooms, nothing! all was great!
- Micaela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wai (8/5): Very good - There are various onsen to try. The dinner portion is a bit small.
- Darya (9/5): Superb -
- Aleksandr (10/5): Old but gold - Great experience! Very cozy and authentic. Very large room - more than enough space for a family of three. Impeccable staff and facilities! Traditional kaiseki dinner is a must and is delicious. Dinner and breakfast are served in the room. Slept great on the futon! Outdoor onsen with a view of the city is beautiful. Funicular - functional, fun and cute attraction. Transfer to the station upon check-out. Thank you very much for everything! We will definitely come back in old age :) We will age gracefully like this ryokan! The ryokan does not need advertising for Russian-speaking travelers :)
- Ilia (9/5): Superb -
- Sok (8/5): Very good -
- Anastasia (8/5): Very good -
- Barbora (8/5): Very good - We loved the onsen and atmosphere of the hotel was nice.
- Alice (9/5): We have a very pleasant stay. - Hospitality, excellent service. Excellent breakfast and dinner. No
- Anastasiia (9/5): Perfect ryokan experience! - Very welcoming staff, we felt relaxed and taken care of. The rotenburo open air bath at the top of the hill is just breathtaking!! You see the sea as you enter it, you can enjoy the moon and sunrise viewing. The room is spacious and comfortable. And the hall with the glass window to the small vertical garden and the waterfall is just the most beautiful view to welcome you. The dinner and breakfast was delicious, and don’t get me started on the cable car to the rooftop rotenburo!
A few important notes for the fellow travellers:
1. There is no mixed bath! Men and women get separate hours to use all the onsen facilities, including the rotenburo open bath at the top of the hill. For female travellers I advise to check in before 17:00, as we did, and then you get to enjoy the view and the rotenburo before dinner, then at night at 9 PM, and then before breakfast early in the morning.
2. You can find a taxi in front of the Ito station: they accept credit cards, and your ride to Yokikan will only cost a few euros (700 yen). In the morning the hotel kindly offered us a ride to the station which was amazing. It’s a short distance but not very easy with the luggage.
3. You can pay with the credit card for drinks at the hotel. There is a free water dispenser for cold drinking water too. But do prepare some coins if you’d like something from the vending machine.
4. I saw reviews that the hotel is not new and the facilities are a bit outdated. Frankly I don’t see the point to stay at new ryokans, the whole experience is to enjoy the atmosphere of old days. That being said, the room and the bathroom were impeccably clean and very warm, since there was an air conditioner in the room. We stayed in the middle of February and in other newer hotels we were freezing cold, but at Yokikan it was no issue. 2 important moments:
1. The hot water in the room: as it is written on the tap, it takes 5-10 minutes before the water will get warm. First time it worked. But the next morning we waited for 30 minutes but the water was still cold.
2. The inner bath is extremely hot: so hot that it’s impossible to enter the bath. Rotenburo at the top is perfectly fine temperature though.
- Albina (3/5): Tourist trap - The only positive aspect is the open-air onsen on the hill overlooking the town. Reception was rushed. The lady was interested in getting through the introduction as quick as possible. The room was cold and felt very dated, it has clearly seen its days and needs renovation. The bath in the room is tiny and not comfortable, fully covered in tiles. The floor in the indoor public onsen was visibly dirty.
The food was a disaster. Dinner: the raw fish was not fresh, the taste was poor, we could not eat it. It was by far the worst food we’ve got in Japan. The service was obtrusive: the staff woke us up 20 minutes before breakfast, insisted on serving it right away. They also took a chunk of our limited time in the morning before check out for removing the futons and collecting the finished breakfast.
This experience has nothing to do with Japanese hospitality. We are glad we’ve tried other places too and know that this is not a norm.
- Anna (10/5): Must visit in Japan! - This is unforgettable experience. The hotel and its staff are beyond the expectations! You can enjoy a very good kaiseki dinner in the evening , then enjoy hot Onsen both open air and indoor. And overall it’s one of the things you’ll never forget. Highly recommend!
- harwin (10/5): - Really good. The open air onsen is a must and a really good experience.
- Emir (9/5): Superb - Comfortable and authentic stay in an onsen Ryokan. Baths are big, room is comfortable and very good food. While slightly away from the city center it is close to a few conveniences. For my aim of a one night getaway, it's great.
- YIQI (10/5): - Amazing hotel, super cozy onsen, comfortable environment, friendly staff, and excellent hotel service.
We stay at the hotel for 2 nights. The front desk staff speaks very good English, and they will patiently introduce you all services (especially the onsen) they provide, all local spots you can visit.
They upgraded our room without any extra fees. The room is traditional Japanese tatami, it’s spacious, clean and very cozy. The room we have has a very good view from the window that you can see the city. Living in this room really gave us a full excellent experience of traditional Japanese lifestyle.
The onsen place they have in hotel is well maintained, clean, and super comfortable to enjoy. They provide every bath-product that you don’t need to worry about. The top level open-air onsen is fantastic. Highly recommend to try the open-air onsen.
They delivered our dinner and breakfast on time. The half-board meal is so good, basically all local good food.
The day we checked out, the owner gave us a free ride to the Ito train station. Really appreciate it.
I would highly recommend to stay at Yokikan if you are looking for a traditional onsen hotel
In Ito.
- linda (10/5): Very good - Very good onsen, cute room and great service
- Clare (9/5): Ryokan with character and auper welcoming staff - Authentic ryokan experience. Wonderful outdoor onsen where you can sit under the night sky and experience sunrise.
