Guest Reviews
- Steve (8/5): - If you want a jungle experience this is it. I loved the breakfast given & Cecilia the woman that made it was so pleasant! The pool was awesome since it was natural water. At night make sure you have a headlight as there aren’t many light poles. The room is a basic cabin but it’s the outside that offers the jungle experience. However,
It’s very far from the big city but there is a small town only 10 minutes away that offer coffee tours, sloth tours and good restaurants/bakeries. Here you will experience Costa Rica like a local.
- Stacy (8/5): - Remote and beautiful- and simple
- Brittany (6/5): - Gorgeous setting. The bathroom was not up to date and there were big gaps at the bottom of the doors. They didn't warn us that the hike was moderate to difficult.
- Tracy (8/5): - Had a nice stay in the cabins with my family. If you understand that you’re getting a cabin in the woods, you’ll be fine. We had the family cabin and was Very rustic with 4 beds in a big room. A/C worked fine and there was a mini fridge which we appreciated. Mattresses were like sleeping on boards though so would suggest they change those if possible. Other than that, it was nice and peaceful. Bonus is the hike to the waterfalls are free for guests…a must do!!
- Kelvin (10/5): - My wife and I loved this property. 3 adults and 2 children in our group. If you are okay with simple accommodations with great service and beautiful scenery you have to stay here. Grounds were immaculate when we arrived and we were greeted with 2 Toucans as we headed to our cabin. Tons of hummingbirds flying around.
This place just felt so full of life! The hikes on the property were great. Took my 77yr old dad to the waterfall. He had no issues. We were the only ones there our first day and our family had the place to ourselves. It felt like our personal playground. Dinner and breakfast onsite was great and lots of food. Super fresh! Would highly recommend it if you're looking to be with nature! I will definitely come back!
- Timothy (10/5): - A great find, a hidden gem!
- Monica (6/5): - The landscaping is pretty. Not worth the price.
- Reza (4/5): - It is one step above camping. Rooms are cabin type. Do not expect typical hotel reeom.Shower buy no hot water. Grounds are nice with view of volcano.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice place in a wonderful area near trails, waterfalls and volcanoes
- Daisy (4/5): - Unfortunately it was not what I expected. My room did not include air conditioning and this was very uncomfortable for us because the mosquitoes approached us. Turning on the hot water was very uncomfortable and difficult, during the morning we did not have hot water to shower. When I booked my room I never saw that the room did not include those things. Otherwise I would pay more for a better one or I would not book it at this place. Overall the staff was very friendly and the breakfast was good.
- Afsaneh (10/5): - Beautiful, serene property. Very nice host and hostess. Loved the waterfall hike. It was the highlight of our trip. We were there by ourselves and could swim. If you’re into exploring and not a resort travel style this place is fabulous. We came here from JW in Guanacaste and loved this more than the resort. Clean and comfy. Breakfast was delicious and tastefully served. Be mindful of the hike though. Not super easy. Hiking shoes , poles and certainly water shoes, towel, and water are a must.
- Samira (10/5): - Tranquilidad cero television, solo naturaleza
- Sandra (6/5): - Beautiful cabins in remote mountainous area. Staff are great but no one speaks English (reminder to me to learn Spanish) so communication is difficult. I had problems checking in because I’d paid through Expedia (or thought I did) but they weren’t going to let me checkin without direct payment to them. With the language barrier this was hard to sort out until I called an intermediary. The breakfast and dinners were surprisingly good but we had no car so no access to anything for lunch. We were only there for 2 days on the last leg of our trip. We mostly enjoyed hanging out on our deck watching and listening to the numerous birds. We’d already done Rio Celeste on the way there so there wasn’t much else to do but walk around the area. Our first night was interrupted by a screaming fight by a couple in the lodge beside us. Because it was in Spanish, we had no idea what it was about but it felt scary for my daughter to hear. One of the owners interceded so it escalated but finally settled. (This is no reflection on the lodge, but the visitors). The last night I was bit about a hundred times in the bed by something. Not bed bugs, but maybe tiny red ants. Otherwise it was an adventure and pretty tranquil!
- ram (6/5): - Old bed, no proper soap and others
- Olivier (8/5): -
- Michael (10/5): Great place - Such an amazing area. So much beauty to see.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place was fantastic! We wanted a more off the beaten path, authentic experience and this was perfect. The staff spoke only Spanish which we so enjoyed. We don’t speak Spanish well (ok hardly at all) but with Google translate and gesturing, no problem at all.
There is a wonderful 1.5 mile (one way, 3 mile out and back) hike to a waterfall view right from their property! We saw lizards and frogs and I’m sure you could see other wildlife.
Breakfast was great and we watched beautiful birds the whole time. We saw a Tucan there!
The cabins are spread out enough that it felt very private. Even at full capacity it would t be a lot of people around.
There is a great little pool there, warm, a little bigger than a hot tub.
The town is small but has enough restaurants to choose from and at least one grocery store.
We loved Ristorante Merisqurria Poro for seafood, chicken fajitas, and nachos.
We would definitely recommend this if you want to get away from tons of tourists and all that comes with tourists. We went on way from Liberia to La Fortuna (which is way touristy but has stuff to do).
- Jim (8/5): - This is an excellent property for bird watching and for walking.
The property sits on the edge of mountainous rain forest and has an excellent private walking trail approx. 2.5km in length (one way) and a shorter lookout trail.
The property is quite beautiful with lots of fruit and berry trees for birds and a couple hummingbird feeders.
The staff were fine although spoke little English for the most part. Nothing Google Translate couldn't fix though.
Breakfast was decent and the cabins were pretty comfy with a few things a little on the rickety side.
The cabins were a little more expensive compared to other places we stayed but the private trail made things worth it to us.
We would recommend nature lovers to spend time here!
- Anette (8/5): - Very friendly staff and great place. The wifi connection was quite poor.
- Jean-Yves (10/5): - Cadre Paradisiaque
- Jan (8/5): - Alles in Ordnung.
- Genevieve (10/5): - Thé kids enjoyed the little pool and the swings.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A nice little gem! - Staff was very welcoming, good restaurant options nearby as well as great hikes. Highly recommended!
Beaucoup d’animaux. Lit un peu dur. Excellent petit déjeuner.
- Doug (8/5): Nature is calling - Great location for off the beaten path. Beautiful setting and excellent hiking trail to waterfall not traveled my many all within the lodging. Room was perfect if you love the sounds of nature and a sloth right outside our patio to say hello. A just what is needed facility meaning just a bed and bath and is perfect if you want that me time get back to nature feeling. My husband and I loved it. The WiFi was iffy most days but your on pura vida time so no need for the phone anyway. Food offered there and when they mean breakfast is included we’ll show up for the breakfast time. Dinners were nothing to write home about but food in the belly.
- Pamela (10/5): Private cabins at edge of rain forest - We stayed two nights at the cabins, and I wish we could have stayed anther night or two. The cabins are private, clean, and cozy. The complementary breakfasts served are excellent! The cabins are off-the-beaten path, about 2 km up a well-maintained gravel road from the town of Bijagua. The cabins are walking distance to the Miravalles protected area. This is a family-run operation that fills a niche for the bird watcher or other types of outdoor enthusiast. There are a few km of trails accessible right from the cabins, inlcuding a waterfall and a rain forest "mirador" overlook. The hosts can give you some local knowledge pointers, sending you in the right direction for other attractions that you can visit on your own, or they can connect you with guides that they personally recommend. Only 1-km away on the same road is a private wildlife preserve "frogsparadisebijagua" and the owner, Miguel, gives excellent private tours of the local frogs, birds, insects and plants. He is passionate about Costa Rican nature, and its well worth the visit, ranking his in the activities we did. Some of the Cataratas Bijagua Cabins host family members know a little bit of English but its best if you can speak some Spanish to get the ost out of your visit.
- Carlos (10/5): A Perfect Situation - Situated in Bijagua, these cabins are in a great location for visiting the Miravalles and Tenorio volcanos. One of the owners, Warner Herrera, was very helpful with tips and information on the area. A few hundred feet down the road is Frog Paradise where Miguel can take you on a night tour to see Costa Rica's most iconic frogs. Stop by Poro for luch or dinner.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Super chalet rustique.
- Richard (10/5): Outstanding property, outstanding value - Unique property consisting of cabins built in a lovely garden on the edge of the jungle. There is a pathway leading up into the protected area and a water fall that starts literally by the office. Dinner is very traditional, and excellent. A nice, family run business and well worth it.
- Richard (10/5): - Nice peaceful, quiet spot. Have stayed there twice and enjoyed both times. Hiked the trails at the lodge the first stay. Went to Tenerio Park the second stay - enjoyed both hikes. The breakfast and dinner were very good. The cabinas are far apart from each other, so you feel like you have the place to yourself, very private. Birds, the sound of the river near by makes for a very tranquil and relaxing stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love this property! It’s peaceful, near great hiking trails, waterfalls and nice little town.
Clean cabins, nice staff.
On recommande !!
- M (8/5): - Nette Bungalows in schöner Umgebung, man blickt vom Bungalow in den Urwald. Schöne Gartenanlage mit charmant angelegten Details. Sehr zu empfehlen!
- Gil (8/5): - Nice, quiet clean place in the middle of the rainforest, a lot of nature, flowers. I wish the bed was not so squicky
