Guest Reviews
- Lisa (10/5): Highly recommend. Wonderful staff. Beautiful stay. - We loved our stay - the room, location, onsen, extraordinary meals, and the most wonderful staff. Nizumi looked after us very kindly.
- Frank (8/5): -
- Ma. Sol (8/5): -
- Vladyslav (10/5): I would definitely recommend to someone and come back myself - Amazing location, atmosphere, authenticity, cleanliness and polite staff. N/A
- Mantas (10/5): -
- Maria Monserrat (9/5): - Era cómodo. El personal y la comida
- Diana Diamint (10/5): - Todo. Nada
- Ayala (10/5): Great, special traditional Japanese hotel - Great, special traditional Japanese hotel. The room was perfect, wonderful view, the team was welcoming and the breakfast was unique and one of a kind of an experience . The onsen was also wonderful ( we took a private one)
- Nam (10/5): A beautiful ryokan experience - the room, the onsen, dinner and breakfast! Loved it - It was perfect! The room was beautiful Japanese style room with a view to the forest/garden and waterfall. We kept the windows open an we enjoyed the sound of the waterfall and birds. Absolutely magical. The futon bed was comfy, and we also enjoyed the private onsen. Oh and the best part was the dinner! It was like fine dining experience, very delicious and interesting food. And also breakfast! It was such a unique experience - all of it together! The staff was very professional and welcoming. We loved our stay at this ryokan, and we felt very relaxed afterwards. Can’t think of anything!
- Pavel (10/5): Great place to stay - The ryokan was very clean and authentic, the Japanese-style dining was a nice experience, area around is green and picturesque. The bus stop is located just near the hotel, so you can take a round bus and explore Hakone.
- vincent (10/5): - exceptional character, beautiful and peaceful onsen, lovely staff and great meals Booking.com could have been clearer that the ryokan does not normally accept solo travellers so I ended up paying the same rate as for two people.
- paola (9/5): -
- Chris (9/5): -
- Ariya (10/5): Perfect stay - The food was incredible, restaraunt quality, if not better. Stayed 3 days and got incredible variety. The rooms were super comfortable and warm. Staff were incredibly friendly and hard working. Will be back
- Huso (10/5): Treat yourself and recharge! - The authentic experience, with a great service and brilliant food!
- Aimee Stephanie (8/5): - Good option to rent the onsen for 1 hour. Nice, clean rooms, beautiful surroundings , hospitable staff
- Alice (9/5): -
- Sean (10/5): -
- Sondrup (9/5): - Meget venligt personale
- Leanne (9/5): A unique experience and essential for those really wanting to experience a traditional Japanese hote - Food was traditional Japanese so it was interesting to try it.
It was also very interesting to stay in Japanese room and sleep on a futon and wear traditional Japanese clothes.
We loved the traditional onsen. The bus stop was right in front of the hotel so it was convenient to get places. Since mostly Japanese were there, much of the signage was in Japanese. We weren't told that the onsen would be closed for cleaning in the morning and went there. I went into the women's onsen and there was a man cleaning but there was no closed sign in front of the entrance.
- Manon (10/5): -
- Camilo (9/5): -
- Kate (10/5): Very friendly staff. Loved using the onsen. - Beautiful location
- Elsa (7/5): Great hotel and onsen but very challenging food - Gorgeous onsen, with 2 privates baths for those with tattoos, and several different public baths. Sleeping on the tatami was fun, and they provided yukatas for the guests. Room and bathroom was very clean. Sashimi was very fresh. Meals (both dinner and breakfast) were EXTREMELY traditional and very uncompromising. Almost all courses included fish. It is a set menu but I would say extremely challenging food. There is no à la carte options. Breakfast was also extremely traditional, 7 (not exaggerating) types of fish for breakfast. It was not easy, for the second night we were there we ate onigiri in our room for dinner as couldn’t face the menu again. We did not have breakfast our second day.
- Luísa (7/5): Beautiful onsen, very traditional - The onsen, which is exactly as seen in the pictures! Breakfast was exclusively traditional Japanese and no adjustments could be made, so as someone that doesn’t eat some types of fish or any sea food, I couldn’t really have almost any of it; it was also a bit too formal for my liking
- Kamilla (10/5): -
- KaChing (10/5): -
- Renske (7/5): Oké but needs renovating - It’s a very nice location and the room itself was clean and very big (for Japanese standards). The food was also very well taken care off and the staff was friendly. However, the hotel needs renovating. The hallway and elevator were very outdated and the onsen facilities could use an updo. For the price we paid, we expected a bit more than this.
- Raphaël (10/5): -
- Karolina (10/5): A perfect place to relax and submerge yourself in a traditional japanese experience - The hotel was located right next to the bus stop, close to convenience store and other interesting locations, such as Ryukozan Choanji, Sotoshu Hanano Temple. The highlight was its picturesque free onsen, which could've been visited almost 24/7 and japanese style breakfast and dinners. The surrounding garden was also very nice. The rooms were traditional, which was also a nice experience, including traditional clothing that you could wear throughout the hotel. It was an amazing place to relax in rural Japan.
- Marianne (10/5): -
- Maha (6/5): - It was well located and big. Very 70s style quite rigid a but old school for my state and
- Camila D'Aquino (8/5): Nice experience, unhelpful staff - The hotel is simply beautiful! The rooms are cozy, and we loved the traditional Japanese experience. The dinner is INCREDIBLE! Have no words enough to praise it! Breakfeast if VERY traditional, which means you are going to eat fish, soup, and tofu in the morning. Maybe amazing for some, but for us it was a bit too much... But we understand that it is part of the experience, but not our favorite. However, a point down was the lack of help during our check-out. It was a rainy day, and we were with our 6 yo daughter, so we decided it would be better to take a taxi from the ryokan to the station. We asked the front desk for some help, since Uber was taking a long time. Their answer: we cannot help, no taxis are running at this time (it was around 9 am), only in the afternoon, you need to go down at take the bus. In the rain, with no umbrella (and no support offered at all...). For our surprise, when waiting the bus outside, we saw not one, but several taxi passing by...

- Enis (9/5): Best Value for Money in the Region. Definitely Recommend! - + Great place to be immersed in nature.
+ Incredibly comfortable stay.
+ Great value for money.
+ Easy transportation from Hakone-Yumoto Station.
+ The food was phenomenal, dinner and breakfast. If you want a traditional spread of local and national Japanese delicacies, don't miss this. Nothing I don't like, but have two points to consider for what it means to stay in a traditional ryokan:
- The onsen area is simple. There are no multiples pools or massage facilities inside. Check the images carefully. It's what you get.
- Your room will be prepared and arranged by employees when you are in the restaurant area. Be mindful.
- Carlotta (7/5): -
- Adriana (9/5): Lovely stay at a ryokan with private onsen, an experience everyone should try at least once - Staying in a traditional Japanese room with a private onsen was such a great experience. The room was cozy, featuring a private annex and a lovely bath. I must say, the water was really hot! We actually had to cool it down a bit with the hose they provided. I highly recommend having a private onsen; not only can you regulate the temperature to your liking, but it’s much more comfortable since you have to be completely naked.
We were well-received throughout our entire stay. It was a bit strange for us to have someone constantly serving us—they escorted us to our room, served us tea, dinner, and breakfast, and even prepared and cleared our futon beds. Despite being on the floor, the futons were very comfortable to sleep in.
They also provided yukatas for us to wear. The kaiseki meals were beautifully presented and offered a unique experience that everyone should try at least once While it was a great experience overall, there were a few things in the kaiseki meals that didn't quite appeal to us or suit our tastes. However, we ate everything! They provided us the menu for dinner, which was great for us to understand what we were eating. Unfortunately, we didn't receive one for breakfast, which would have been nice as well. It is definitely different from what we are used to as Western tourists, but I recommend it anyway.
One side note: the piano in the main hall really needs to be tuned.
- Céline (10/5): Wonderful! - Everyone here is really welcoming, polite. We had a Japanese style room and we loved it. All the pastries and appetisers left everyday for us were so so delicious, I’ve tried to buy some at the stores but I couldn’t find them (such a shame). We loved so much the onsens that we booked a private one for us. The menus are exquisite! We’ve arrived at night and didn’t see the name « Senkyoro » in front of the hotel and we googled only the address and not the name of the hotel, which led us to another place… So scary. But the hotel was super nice, I called them, they found us and drove us to the hotel (much needed after a long flight).

- Ly (10/5): First time visiting an onsene. It was a very nice and relaxing experience. - Love that the location was just outside the bus stop. The room was very nice and included all the amenities we needed. Dinner was plentiful and beautifully presented and breakfast was great. Love that we were able to also buy a very good cup of coffee at the lobby to get our caffeine fix for the day. We really enjoyed our stay there and would recommend to friends. Wish there was a mat or couch area for us to lay down and rest before dinner in the room. Beds are made while we were at dinner so there wasn’t a place to lay down before. We sat on the chairs which was comfortable but wasn’t able to lay down for a bit.
- Vito (8/5): - Alles perfekt.
- Rianda (10/5): Peaceful Inn out of the way of the usual tourist bustle - The rooms were beautiful and the gardens surrounding were even moreso! Breakfast was delicious. The staff is so helpful with explaining what to do for us foreigners. Nothing could have made it better. I'll be back!
- Tatum (10/5): Restorative, delightful, exceptional. - The hot springs were incredible and the staff went above and beyond. Perfect for a quiet, restorative getaway.
- Alicia (9/5): - The dinner was great! One of my favorite meals in Japan. The onsens weren't bad either. The rooms smelled a bit musty or like rice. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not.
- Richard (9/5): We had a lovely stay in an awesome place with great food. - Food and service were very good. Accommodations were lovely. The hallway had a musty smell. Also the elevator closing mechanism was crazy aggressive and smushed me.
- Renee (10/5): Wonderful stay, flawless service, would stay again. - The staff were incredible, the private onsen in our room was a delight to come home to, the gardens were beautiful. We liked everything!
- Slavomír (10/5): -
- moonhie (8/5): -
- Charles (9/5): I will be returning in the future. - The traditional breakfast is a little "out there" for foreign travelers, very different than your traditional North American breakfast.
Dinner was delicious and varied.
Rooms are gorgeous and comfortable, the staff is friendly, polite and helpful. They speak good English for those who have a limited Japanese repertoire. Nothing really.
Drinks are a little pricey, and the location is a bit hard to get to because it is a bit secluded, but no complaints. It was worth the detour
- tegan (10/5): If you're looking to treat yourself in Hakone, this is the place. - Wow, the hospitality here was off the charts! We felt so taken care of. And what a beautiful room with beautiful facilities! The food was so gorgeously presented and thought out and delicious too - our dinners were probably some of the nicest meals we've ever had. The portions were generous and we loved getting to experience traditional Japanese breakfast in our yukata. The room was more expensive than we would usually go for, but as meals were included, if you're in need of some pampering, we think it was totally worth every yen. The staff were so helpful and attentive and were very patient with our limited Japanese. Many staff also speak English if that's a concern, but I appreciated that they willing to speak a slow Japanese with me instead of immediately defaulting to English. Location was nice and central to many art museums and the bus stops right out front of the driveway. I have tattoos so could not use the main baths, but really enjoyed the private bookable baths. They were an additional fee of 2,200 yen for 45 min.
What a special stay!
- Cindy (10/5): -
- Wootton (10/5): Beautiful experience and relaxing stay! - Property was beautiful! We wish we couldve stayed longer!
- Lewis (9/5): -
- Sofia (7/5): -
- Brian (7/5): - As expected in a traditional Ryokan, the food was at times challenging for western tastebuds, nonetheless exceptionally good in quality. Service was very attentive. We booked a tradidional Japanese room, which was exactly as we had hoped and expected. The futons were laid out, while we were at dinner and were very comfortable. We especially loved the outdoor onsen, which was very relaxing. The hotel seems a bit dated. It felt somewhat bizarre at times as the public area was completely empty in the evenings. No guests or staff to be seen. Sometimes it seemed like we were in an abandoned hotel from the 1970s. There was a hotel bar (at least there was a sign for it) - it was closed the entire time of our stay though. Not exactly sure why though.
- Roman (9/5): -
- Thanh Mai (10/5): - Very good meals
Friendly staff
- Federica (10/5): Our experience at Senkyoro was excellent: a beautiful room, delicious food, amazing onsens and very kind staff members! - Everything! The onsens were incredibly amazing and ideal places for resting and relaxing. Also the room was very good: everything was very well curated. Nothing. It was simply perfect
- edenein (10/5): Maravilloso!
- Sarit (10/5): WONDERFUL - The service was wonderful, the food was amazing (we gave them a hard time with us eating Kosher and no raw fish) - and there were so many dishes!! The presentation was stunning.
The Onsen was fabulous!! The room was spacious and lovely, and the location is wonderful - a short bus ride to Ashi Lake!
The bus stop is just by the Ryokan, and there was a Lawson with a 5 mineut walk.
Loved every mineut! Nothing.
- Shaun (9/5): -
- Sevil (8/5): Traditional Japanese experience - Really good garden and dinner. The staff are really helpful and friendly. Traditional Japanese experience in a ryokan In general it was a great experience but only breakfast (It was a bit too much Japanese if you prefer more Western breakfast)

- Adriana (10/5): Our dream getaway at Senkyoro - Our stay at Senkyoro was an absolute dream. We enjoyed everything, from the wonderful setting surrounded by woodland, to the traditional and charming building and facilities with a modern touch. Staff were incredibly accommodating and kind, our meals were the best ones we had in our whole trip to Japan. Our stay at Senkyoro and onsen experience was beyond our expectations. We will not hesitate to come back when in Japan.
- David (10/5): We stayed in a room with a private hot spring. It was worth the splurge and was the best night of our trip. The food and - The whole experience. Nothing.
- Leonid (10/5): -
- Rinna (9/5): - Food was amazing. Staff was super polite. Onsen was good. Rooms are clean. Yard is beautiful. Very good hotel for the price. Private onsen was not bookable easily.
- Alessandra (10/5): - Esperienza stupenda! Camera tipica giapponese con futon (comodissimi) calda e accogliente. Onsen molto bello soprattutto la vasca all'esterno.
- Andrew (10/5): Delightful - The Hotel, Spa and the food was authentic Japanese.
Everything was interesting and delightful. Thanks to all of the staff. The setting and the grounds were wonderful. Nearby was the Hakone open air museum which is fantastic. Nothing
