Guest Reviews
- Clubess1 (10/5): Very Good Location. - This hotel was just about perfect for us. It was very well located for us who like to walk & explore everywhere. The old town area, multiple, beautiful golden-roofed temples were nearby, as well as every kind of restaurant, shop, the night market, massage spas, the old city wall & moat & more. The hotel is situated around a good sized pool that attracted folks relaxing in chaise loungers (I heard people saying they were disappointed the bar closes early & so they were unable to have drinks while hanging out at the pool). There are beautiful bonsais all over the place (I was so jealous), an old school living room/library area, a very small gym, a fairly quick elevator (mind your head on the low ceiling when you exit the elevator) & a very good breakfast that included such local dishes as stir fry chicken with basil, cabbage in fish sauce, chicken teriyaki, a great coffee machine & hot chocolate (I wish they had had green tea also), eggs of any sort (you can order different egg dishes if you do not find one that satisfies you), pancakes, French toast, chicken ham & chicken sausage (aka chicken hot dogs) but very little fruit. Pillows were not too comfortable but the bed was. Yes, the bathroom is tiny (be aware that the bathroom floor is slippery) & the room is compact but those things did not bother us. The towels are fluffy. There is ample storage space & excellent wifi. Front desk staff was okay and the lobby is tiny, although many folks sit on the outdoor patio just past the lobby. The rain shower on our last morning was a cool sight to see & hear. A cool feature are the many folding dryer racks situated everywhere for guests to use. We did.
- Selena (10/5): - This was a great hotel. We loved staying here. The staff and amenities were what we needed on our trip.
- T7002EJpeters (10/5): Stay here if visiting Chiang Mai - The de Charme hotel was outstanding. The location was superb, the hotel itself was immaculately clean and well-designed and lovely. The staff was more than friendly and helpful, the interior courtyard and pool looked great, and the food was good, especially the breakfast which was part of our booking. The hotel made a huge difference in our visit to Chiang Mai, and I can't imagine staying in Chiang Mai and not stay at the de Charme. I would give it the highest rating. Chiang Mai was a big surprise for us.
- Ian (10/5): - Very enjoyable.
- bmrozak (10/5): A Charming Hotel in a great Part of Chiang Mai within Old City! Highly recommend as well as restaurant up th street around calle - Absolutely enjoyed our stay here.
The people at the front desk made our stay extra special. Excellent service and attention to detail, assistance and always met with a smile. Very efficient.
A very clean place and beautiful pool. Rooms are spacious!.
Thank you everyone 💓 thanks Mr. Jo, Smile, Joy, Aom, Yom amd Pojnas well as owner!
- Arash (6/5): - bathroom and shower room design was terrible.
water pressure was poor and maintaining water temperature was an struggle.
- thonyon (10/5): - I was there for 22 nights in this hotel and loved it. Place was clean, staff accomodating, venue was perfect right in the old city. Lots of greenery and fun. This was my first time in chiang mai and de charme has me hooked. I will be back!
- Emmanuel (2/5): - Area is good but the room we stayed in smelled like something had died in there. Needs to be resolved asap.
- Art (8/5): - More hot water
Cooler fridge
- janne (10/5): - I enjoyed my stay and the staff were helpful. I was not given a very warm welcome when i arrived . I got the look up and down and asked what did i want? Maybe i wasnt dressed in my sunday bests but its not the way to greet a guest
- Vinz1029 (10/5): Gem of a Hotel - Songkran Festival is the most awaited holiday in Thailand. It is celebrated annually from April 13 to 14, but other provinces have extended celebrations. As early as January, Thais are already making plans on where to go and where to stay. In order to get a good rate on the hotel, I booked my reservation end of January. De Charme Hotel in Chiang Mai is one of those reasonably priced hotels and its location is very convenient. Located inside the wall of Old Chiang Mai, the De Charmed Hotel is a quaint place. For less than 40 US, I got a nice room with breakfast. The hotel has a small gym, a swimming pool, and a library. The four-story building has an open feel. There are lots of shops around, and the famous Prae Sunday Night Market is just 1 1/2 blocks away.
The buffet breakfast is always stocked with pancakes, bread, cereal, western and Thai cuisines. They also have an espresso machine for your caffeine fix. I usually have breakfast at 8 am and once I return, my room is already made up.
All in all, I had a very good experience with De Charme Hotel and definitely recommend this place.
- alexcga (8/5): Charming retro hotel in the heart of Chiang Mai old town - Great location if you want to be in the heart of Chiang Mai old town.
The room we had was big and quite clean.
The pool is nice, cold, and refreshing.
Breakfast is above average.
If I had to give it a negative is the sound of doors closing as guests come and go is quite loud. Keep in mind it's an old style hotel so sound-proofness needs a bit of update. Otherwise, great value for money.
- X9937IWblakew (4/5): I won’t be back - The good:
-The location is great. Lots to do close by (walking distance) and plenty of restaurants and a 7-11 within a few blocks.
-Room was clean.
-Pool was clean.
The not so good:
-The worst mattress (hardest) we’ve ever had. Even for Thailand, these mattresses are HARD. Awful.
-The bathroom is horribly designed. If you sit on the toilet, you’ll have one foot in the shower and you are likely to get the bathroom wet every time you shower because of how the shower head sits.
-The walls are paper thin and the hotel has a pool/courtyard in the middle and you can hear full conversations of people at the pool while you’re in your room. We had the misfortune of being here when there were several obnoxiously loud groups, including a group that played house music on their Bluetooth speaker at an inappropriately loud volume. Even still, you can hear if someone across the hotel on a different floor leaves their room.
-The staff seem unfriendly compared to other places we’ve stayed in Thailand. At one point We asked for 2 extra pillows and they rolled their eyes and said they didn’t know if they had any. After pleading for even one extra, they managed to find 2 for us but it seemed like a major inconvenience for them.
-Breakfast is bland and not good.
-Pool was surprisingly chilly. I like a cool pool but this would have been cold even for a lap pool. I’m guessing it was around 76°.
I would not stay here again. Not worth the headache.
- bluehippos (6/5): Disappointing - The hotel is perfectly situated to explore Chiang Mai. The hotel grounds and pool area are fine with very few sunbeds. The rooms are large and clean with, as other reviewers have said, the hardest mattress you are ever likely to encounter. Fortunately there are some duvets in the room that you can put under the sheet to make this a little softer. The bathroom is the most bizarre design I have encountered anywhere in the world. Again as others have mentioned you sit on the toilet with one foot in the shower and, unless you hand hold the shower, it would soak the room. I can’t imagine what the designers were thinking.Breakfast was very basic and bland. By far the worst aspect of this hotel was the detached and disinterested staff. With the exception of one young lady with glasses on reception, the staff were unfriendly and unmotivated. Nobody showed me to my room (and the room numbering is very odd) or helped with luggage. No food is served in the evenings. The overall impression of the hotel was that it was soulless.
- R0elandW (10/5): Value for money - Stayed here only 1 night. Good service with nice swimming pool.
Room and breakfast were okay and a value for money. Location is great, right in the middle of the moat of the old city centre of Chiang Mai. Staff is also very helpfull and easy going.
- TuyettruongTYT (2/5): Terrible - Run away! Avoid this hotel at all costs.
They threw away my belongings before asking. Although I double checked to see if I could leave my stuff and pick it up 5 minutes later when we left our luggage in the room and 2 ladies at the front desk confirmed that I could.
Awful lady at the receptionist. Very very unpleasant and terrible service.
- JenK105 (6/5): Good location - Great central location and a nice pool but the staff were not very friendly and unhelpful. The rooms were a nice size but the bathrooms here so badly designed. The showers had to be held in your hand or the whole bathroom was wet. We had two rooms and this was the case in both. I had to clean the bathroom with towels as it was so wet and then made pay an additional 150 baht so to the stains that were on the towel!!!
- 758ssa (2/5): The Worst Hotel ever stayed!! - Start with a yellowish minibar as it’s quite old as everywhere inside was full of yellow stains.
Wondering the fridge was moved from an old hotel “ Lanna Hotel”, after considering to see a mix of different Hôtel names as shown on the bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body lotions with Decharme Hôtel & Lanna Hôtel.
Thé Basic need of toothbrush and paste was not provided but others like cotton buds and shower cap were found.
One Wooden hanger in the closet was broken as shown and a nail was coming out and it scratched me while removing. Quite dangerous!
The Bathroom was quite small and especially the barrier between toilet and bathroom floor was to be careful not to hit and fall down. Had to put my feet on the wet floor while using the toilet. (No dry space after a shower).
Overall, it’s not recommended to stay at such a messy hotel.
- Moses (8/5): - The hotel is very nice. The rooms are large and have a lot of space. Wifi is also very fast. However, our shower did not work properly. The only two temperatures available were extremely hot or very cold no matter how we set the temperature adjustment. This made taking showers very difficult and uncomfortable. They also have 4 signs in the room asking you to reuse your towels by hanging them up rather than leaving them on the floor but housekeeping replaced our towels daily regardless.
- ANDRE (8/5): - Hotel bem localizado, limpo, staff prestativo e educado.
- Zeineb (4/5): A éviter !!
- Phil (10/5): - Nice friendly hotel.
- Oscardog16 (6/5): Bring your earplugs - The hotel consists of four buildings, each four stories high in a quadrangle formation. The pool is inside the quadrangle and all rooms are accessed from an open walkways around the interior of the quadrangle. Unfortunately, the noise reverberates and echoes throughout the hotel. We were woken at 5 am by a screaming baby and again at 7 am by guests rolling their suitcases on the walkways. Our room appeared to have been recently refurbished, all cabinetry and paint was in good condition with no chips or signs of wear and tear. The bathroom however was a different story and needs a complete renovation. The room was comfortable and a good price. The hotel appears popular with overnight tour groups.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Schönes Hotel in guter Lage - Schönes Hotel in guter Lage
- KelownaComments (6/5): Deluxe Rom - We booked a deluxe room with breakfast. Hotel first gave us a room with 2 single beds, but quickly changed to a king bed when we complained. Hotel is basically a motel built in a U shape with reception, dinning room and a few rooms closing off the U. The pool is inside the U. Breakfast is a simple / basic buffet with eggs or omelets cooked for you. Staff was friendly, but a little reserved with some language barrier. In general it was OK and if you are looking for a budget hotel will meet your needs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were amazing and the pool was great! Room was a good size and very clean. Location was great, taxis regularly passing by taking you anywhere locally for 30 bhat per person which was brilliant. We had a great stay! :)
- ice1212 (8/5): AMAZING LOCATION,VERY GOOD STAFF NICE AND CLAM PLACE - It was a perfect location and very well connected to the city, site scene, food,7-11 ,atm and all you need as a traveller . the staff is very good and good food but need more choice for vegetarian and if double bed then please do not join beds . its not comfortable .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - -Great Location
-Good breakfast
-Excellent clean
-Nice pool
- MarekM9 (6/5): A hotel worth the money - A hotel worth the money. Courteous service. Spacious rooms. Quietly. Good breakfast service (buffet). Rooms cleaned daily. Unfortunately, despite the assurances in the offer, the rooms do not have balconies, and in some of them you can't even open the window ... Uninvited guests appear in the room - cockroaches, which the service is dealt with immediately and extremely effectively :-).
- Renato (10/5): Excelente!!!
- Sarah (8/5): Charming - This hotel was fine and we enjoyed our stay. My only slight niggle was they insist on checking your room to see if you have run off with towels, teacups etc prior to departure. They obviously have a problem with some customers taking things but it makes you feel like you feel like you are under scrutiny.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The unique thing was that the restroom in these hotel rooms have a water spray when you use the restroom to clean your private part.
- KenPak (10/5): - The hotel is in a great location in the old city. The staff were so nice and helpful. The pool was better than most!! Overall great value for the cost!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Convenient location inside old city wall. Close to Sunday night market. Nice pool; staff are helpful and efficient.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Coakroch on the first night.
They asked us to pay for the small glass in the bathroom where we put our toothbrush that was cracked. None of us cracked it. They were asking for 80 Bhatt. Not that it is expensive, it’s the principle. We had towels with holes but we have to pay for a cracked glass. Please review the customer service! We refused to pay. They let it go.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great breakfast. Great pool but cold, which is actually probably a good thing. Lovely staff. Not in the loudest or busiest tourist areas but, really, it's in old town and everything in old town is a walk away. I extended my stay a couple of extra days because it was such a nice place to stay.
- Darlene (8/5): We enjoyed our stay - Staff was lovely, very helpful. Hotel was fine the beds are not soft very very firm but other than that we enjoyed our stay. De Charme is close to everything! Great location.
- Mel (8/5): Lovely hotel perfect location - Located right in the middle of the old city, easy to find and lovely to stay
- Pat (6/5): A bit old, quiet and convenient location - Basically the hotel is fair. It is a bit old, especially the doors in room, thus it is noisy when mid night you may hear people closing them hard. Surely that makes you jump up from dreams.
I was offered a room which had the water pump right next to it. Whenever people use water on that floor, we can hear the pump worked clearly, for the whole night. We asked for a room change. However, I did not understand how they would still offer that room to any guest.
Shower with merely enough water flow. Either very hot or cold water, difficult to have warm shower.
Limited channels for kids on television.
Breakfast food is fair. Thai food cooks with MSG. Better offer steam white rice and plain congee. Also, expect butter than margarine.
My kid love the swimming pool.
- lou (10/5): - Excellent value for the price. Close to night markets. Great breakfast included, fresh fruit, omelet bar, cereal, drinks etc.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location. Good breakfast buffet. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good for a short stay. Only issue was that to sit on the toilet you had to have one foot in the shower stall due to lack of space. King sized bed was very comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good value for money - Well located, inside the walls of the city, walking distance to the weekly market, friendly staff, good breakfast, good room.
- Peter (10/5): Would stay again - Great friendly Hotel, Friendly helpful staff. Good Breakfast.. Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Convenient to everything you need. - Old City hotel that is very close to all of the temples and nightlife. I walked just about everywhere.
The room was spacious for the price, but the bathroom is small. Always get extra TP in Asia. They don't like to use it.
The breakfast was cold, except for the fresh cooked eggs. The items in the pans, that should have been kept warm, were literally cold. I am a big believer in keeping cooked food warm. I paid for 3 breakfasts, I ate there once. There are place a short distance away with great food at minimal cost.
The staff does not speak much English and almost ripped me off with a taxi to the airport until I said no. So be aware.
My lasting impression of the hotel is this though: The ants. The small little Asian ants are everywhere. Made my sleep restless. Oh, the bed is very hard, Thai standard.
- Craig (10/5): Lovely hotel - Hotel was clean . Breakfast great . Swimming pool was lovely . Friendly staff . Only moan I had was my flight from uk was cancelled which made our arrival a day late I emailed the hotel 3 times to make sure our room was kept for us they never acknowledge us . Other than that our stay was fantastic would definitely recommend staying here
- Verified traveler (8/5): Economical - Hotel is a great value and perfect location. It was centrally located in the Old City making it easy to get anywhere using Uber or walking.
- Wing (8/5): Worth the price - Good location in old city. Close to restaurants & places of interest. Friendly staff. Good swimming pool & very nice breakfast buffet.
- Brian (8/5): Nice hotel at reasonable price. - Clean hotel & nice staff. Close to restaurants & places of interests. WiFi was a bit weak. Insufficient hot water sometimes.
- Yin Mei (8/5): - Good experiences with the hotel. Nice staff, good buffet breakfast, nice swimming pool & good location.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Noisy out of the way hotel - The room looked nice on the inside but was infested with ants. it was noisy with road traffic and from breakfast in the courtyard from 6.30am. The staff on reception were less than helpful. It was also at the opposite end of the main area of the old town at the Taepae gate. Disappointed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent location. - Medium size, but decent & clean hotel with good facilities. Helpful staff. Good breakfast buffet. Will definitely introduce it to friends.
- Mário (6/5): Nicely located with regular infrastructure - The air conditioner in our room wasn't working properly. Besides that, we purchased in upgrade, then they wanted to move to a part of the hotel which didn't have a lift, so we refused it and stayed in our previous room
- Jaryn (6/5): - Food in the area is great, but the shower is very awkward to use due to its placement.
- Jasmine (6/5): Nice - Hotel is good, shower positioning makes it very awkward to use, beautiful pool, one of the receptionists can be rude.
- Megan (8/5): Short stay - Great location. Close to local night markets, temples and only 10 min tuk tuk to the main centre where there are great restaurants and bars. Nice room with connecting room with separate lounge and toilet. Good breakfast and in room dining service. Would stay again.
- Gilbert (10/5): Good location friendly and helpful staff - Had a great stay at De charme. Good value for your money and staff was courteous. I would stay here again.
- Richardb (8/5): Great hotel let down by patchy wifi - Everything about this brand new 3 star hotel was good -good service, good value, friendly helpful staff, great position, good pool and excellent rooms. Not all rooms had lift access, being served only by stairs, if you have difficulty with stairs specify a room with lift access. Some rooms got a good wifi signal but some rooms (ours included) did not. A strong signal could be achieved in the main ground floor areas but on occasion the upload/download speed was also slow. If this is an issue you can buy wifi hotspot/mobile data cards easily and cheaply. Without the Internet problems this would be a 5 star review - its fundamentally a great hotel
- RJ (6/5): Do not stay here if you are in need of Wifi - The room is spacious and clean. Bed is comfortable. Small bathroom. Everything is just great except the WiFi. The signal is so weak and the connection is so bad. I can hardly use it. I was assigned a room at the corner, which I believe is the reason why. I complained to the staffs at the fronts. They listened but did nothing.
- Kevin (6/5): - Not a bad hotel - massive room and in a decent location. That said, as a solo traveler this place definitely lacked vibe and is more suited for couples and/or families.
- Udomsin (8/5): Clean and convenient hotel right in the city. - The Hotel is only 200 meters away from Wat Phra Singh and very near to many historical places in Chiang Mai's City Centre includes the famous Sunday Walking Street on Rajadamneun Road. The premise is very new by the time we stayed there (only opened for 3 weeks), the staff was helpful, the room was clean, the pool was great though the breakfast was a bit under average for the taste (it would be nice if they used at least Dilmah or Lipton tea instead of Aro from Makro.) Overall, clean and convenient hotel but for the price, there still is a room for improvement.
