- dlcuk74 (10/5): Wedding, meals and accommodation - We held our wedding in the Nelson suite on 2nd May 2026. We had multiple friends and family staying over. From start to finish the staff were superb, particularly Mahwish from the events team and the extremely helpful chef who stayed behind to do a repair on our wedding cake after I had accidentally damaged it in transit! The organisation, food and drinks were all superb. I cannot recommend the Maritime hotel enough as a venue for future events and celebrations.

Breakfast was frenetic and busy each day, all food items in short supply, Evening waiters were very inexperienced with food and wine advice.

- LikesAGoodDeal (10/5): Nice Historic Hotel - We stayed at the historic Royal Maritime Hotel so that we could be within walking distance of the Portsmouth Historic Harbor. The rooms were renovated and, though on the small side, there was a built-in cabinet with plenty of room for our items. We found the bed very comfortable, plenty of hot water, and towel warmers in the bathroom. The staff was nice and efficient. We had arrived before check-in and they held our bags for us. We needed to get some additional toiletries and they brought them up immediately. Even though the rooms do not have air conditioning it was not needed since the hotel is close to the water and the windows open to catch the breeze. A desk fan is also provided which we utilized. As on other occasions visiting Great Britain, wash clothes are not provided, as it is considered a personal item, so, remember to bring a wash cloth with you. It was nice staying at a historical hotel since we were there to see the Historical shipyard.

- Vanessa (5/5): Great disappointment - Pleasant looking hotel from the outside, however, we were disappointed to find leading through the corridors to our room old flooring, peeling paintwork on the walls were in a state of being renovated. It was evident that in our room it was slapdashed with a quick paint job! The communal living room had boxes piled with newly packed furniture, to be put together, the area was disorganised. Twice we had to refer to the reception area as our room key cards wouldn't operate. Overall we were very disappointed in staying at this hotel. For the money it was not a luxurious experience. With regards to parking we presumed it was private parking for guests to be told on our arrival we did not have a space and had to pay additional to get a pass to park in the side street. - X2924GMdavido (10/5): Perfect location - We chose to stay at the Royal Maritime having received an email from Best Western to say it was now one of their group of hotels. We had hoped to visit the naval dockyards, at some time, so this seemed the ideal opportunity. The location of the hotel was perfect for this. Everybody we met, from start to finish, was welcoming, friendly and efficient. The meals in the restaurant - Horatio’s - were excellent. And our room had clearly been refurbished recently. This was not the most luxurious hotel we have ever stayed in, but it ticked all the boxes for friendliness, cleanliness, location and facilities and, for that, we are happy to give it 5 stars!

We will be recommending this hotel. Nothing - a very enjoyable stay.

- stephentT5415UZ (10/5): Portsmouth visit - Had a fantastic stay. The hotel is situated just in the right place for easy access to so many attractions. Our room had just been refurbished so was nice and fresh. Some updating in the public areas is still going on but we looked past that. The breakfast was very good and the one night we had dinner in the restaurant that was very good. Only criticism would be the menu was a bit restricted. The staff were the real stars of the hotel nothing was to much trouble when we asked for anything.
- richard (1/5): Misleading experience - hotel in terrible state of repair - Clean room Extremely disappointing and misleading experience. After a 13-hour journey, I arrived to find the hotel in a very poor state and clearly undergoing refurbishment works that were not disclosed at the time of booking. The condition of the property is nothing like the photos shown online. There were damaged walls with exposed plaster, peeling paint throughout corridors, visible water damage, stained carpets, and an overall run-down appearance. It felt more like a building site than a hotel in parts. For £111, this is completely unacceptable. Had I known the true condition of the hotel, I would never have booked. The lack of transparency is the most frustrating part — guests should be informed if major works are ongoing. I raised this with the hotel but they refused to offer any form of refund, which is very disappointing. Would not recommend staying here until the refurbishment is complete and the listing accurately reflects the current condition.

- Yseult (9/5): An excellent choice for a short stay in historic Portsmouth - The hotel's location, close to both the railway station and the Historic Dockyards could not be better. The hotel's breakfast, included in the room fee, was excellent with a good choice of hot food, bakeries and fruit and yoghurts. I can't think of anything
- Richard (5/5): Sadly Disappointing. - Staff were very accommodating and friendly and the location for the Maritime Museum was excellent, practically over the road. The room location (West Wing) was in a terrible state of decor and down a dark gloomy corridor which was out the back end of the hotel. The room was outdated by about 30 years and it overlooked a block of council flats. The West Wing is undergoing a refurb, apparently, but this was not mentioned upfront. We paid £222 for a two night stay which was well overpriced for the quality of the room, breakfast and facilities on offer. Little things like very small towels, no air conditioning, no usb sockets and poor quality breakfast also let it down.
- MCBtraveller (10/5): A friendly, comfortable hotel in an excellent location - An excellent location, close to the rail station and ferry terminals, and ideal for visiting the Royal dockyard, ie the Royal Navy Museum which includes HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. Very clean and well maintained with a spacious bar and large dining area. We dined at the hotel a year ago and the food was not very good, but there has been a significant improvement in both the menu choices and the quality of the food. Standard buffet breakfast, but good quality and plentiful.

- Colin (9/5): Historic flavour of this quality hotel fits in well with the local Dockyard. - The room was newly decorated, spacious, with an excellent en-suite. The breakfast was value for money and good choice was available. We ate in the restaurant one evening the service and food was excellent. There is ongoing decoration in the corridor parts of the hotel but this did not detract from enjoying our stay. The Maritime is ideally located for visiting historic areas nearby. Nothing to note.

- Mark (9/5): Nice visit to Portsmouth!! - Nice hotel staff very helpful. Used the restaurant which we had a very nice meal and breakfast was also good. Our room was next to some large air conditioning units which were a bit noisy but didn’t ruin our stay. The room maybe could had done with a little touch up with its decor but for the price we couldn’t complain.
