- Brian (8/5): - The hotel is beautiful, the staff friendly and efficient, the food was freshly cooked, hot and tasty although the chips too greasy for me, I thoroughly enjoyed the hake, The room was very clean but unfortunately I struggled to sleep in the heat with no air conditioning or even a fan
- Laura (4/5): - Booked our stay through Expedia for a weekend. Staff friendly upon check in and let us check in slightly early. How the room was advertised on Expedia does not match how the rooms look (ours at least). Rooms are advertised as sound proof - this isnt true. We were woken up both mornings by people having normal volume conversations in the corridor. It sounds like they're in the room with you. Room was advertised as King size bed, it was a double bed. Bathroom very outdated in decoration, shower old and very stiff. Hairdryer airvent was broken in multiple places, the gap big enough to accidentally suck up bits of your hair. Cable was stretched and my partner thought he got an electric shock from it. The first night something happened in the kitchen so there was no food available from the restaurant. Reception desk often unmanned, as was the bar when waiting to order drinks. Dust and dirt in the radiator. We complained to Expedia, who attempted to reach out to the hotel for a refund, which was denied.
- Alexander (4/5): - Upon checking-in I was informed that the hotel had been sold and was due to close imminently. This was evident throughout the establishment. The accommodation was tired and dated late 60's and uncared for. The bed was reasonably comfortable despite being 2 singles joined together. The restaurant was cold, grubby and lacked any atmosphere. The food was dreadful. A charming young girl rushed around trying to offer a degree of service whilst the "Manager" lacked any interest and kept disappearing which resulted in long waits to be served at the bar. The bar stock was obviously being run down as more than 50% of the taps were empty. Ironically, I had been advised not to stay at Potters Heron: I wish now that the advice had been taken.

- Jeremy (6/5): Communication - When i required a second key, the reception didn’t tell me to return it, and consequently didn’t clean our room. Further to that they didn't contact us the following day to tell us that. Communication is the key to most successful business.

- Deborah (8/5): An OK hotel - We stayed at the Potters Heron for a wedding in the local area. We had a pleasant stay but I would like to say the hotel felt a little sticky in places.It could do with a revamp tbh. However, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was good. Breakfast was plentiful and restocked continually. I felt sorry for the girl in the breakfast room on Sunday morning she seemed to be the only staff member working and was rushed off her feet! She did a great job though and deserves a medal!! Not sure if it was value for money?

Hot food not that hot and scrambled eggs had gone green as left for too long. Coffee on side not individual pots, cold even when new lot made and cups too small, so kept having to get up for refill.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Pleasant but tired hotel. - The staff were pleasant, hardworking and helpful. The room was comfortable but tired, for example the carpet in our room needed replacing. The evening menu was very restricted but food was good and well presented. Cooked breakfast was not very hot and both poached and scrambled eggs very overcooked.

- Daphne (10/5): New Year with dog - We stayed 2 nights over the New Year. It is very near my family so very convenient. We had our dog with us and were given an amazing room on the ground floor with a door to the garden. Very convenient. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. I won't stay anywhere else now when I visit the family. Food is very good, we have eaten here with family before, and we were able to take dog into breakfast so no worries about leaving him in the room. We thoroughly recommend this hotel! Thank you Potters Heron for a lovely stay. The dog loved it too!

- Garry (8/5): - Overall it was very good, a few small issues, the curtains are hanging of many hooks & are too hard to pull on , the TV remote needed a good clean, mold under the bath handle .
- Peter (4/5): - First room hadn’t been clean, we were left a nasty surprise in the loo, we moved rooms without any issues, very limited evening meal choices, staff were friendly but it was quite odvious that some of the staff didn’t want to be there, also I can only assume that two different members of staff were senior and called the junior staff members the kids, the only saving grace was the breakfast.

- Jeanette (4/5): - From a distance a nice thatched hotel but up closer the hotel side looked to need much upgrading and decoration. The receptionist did state that upgrading to the hotel was starting. Our room needed a good clean, window ledges with mould, side of the easy chair had visible fluid drips down. The bathroom had a bath that was cracked, brown spots on the bottom, dirt around taps and mould on tiles. Same on sink, dirt around taps, mirror dirty. The toilet brush needed replacing and was sitting in dirty water!!! The non slip mat was yellowed. Really not up to a good level of cleanliness. I mentioned this on check out to receptionist and I think another staff member, cleaning supervisor maybe and they apologised. Disappointed.

Reception was deserted on checkout. The room was modern, clean and great. The outside area had a table, chair and a lot of cigarette ends, which could have been swept away. So good rooms, but no visible members of staff at all.

- Ron (10/5): Just lovely - Our stay was for a short family visit, we have been here before and as the last time it was excellent, the room is large and quite in a part of the hotel with access to the garden with your own seating area, we had a meat in the restaurant and it was the best fish and chips ever, served in a quite corner so we could enjoy a chat over lunch, service couldn't be faulted, absolutely excellent staff. We will stay there again and would strongly recommend it
- Bradley (10/5): - We were worried to find a place we could stay with our Springer Spaniel, but this is the most pet friendly place we've ever been. There are the regular hotel rooms and pet friendly rooms. So not all rooms have pets which is totally fair as you have people with allergies to dogs. But you are made so very welcome. The welcoming staff even give a dog biscuit. Will stay here again for sure.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Fab location, little dated, restaurant let it down - Fab location on the outskirts of Winchester. Individual seating area outside ground floor room. Carpets into accommodation area were mismatched and decor a little dated. Room was great - comfy bed and matching furniture. Large comfy tea seater and complimentary tea/coffee/bottled water. Bath was narrow meaning skin made contact with shower curtain. Reception and housekeeping staff were great. Downside - table in restaurant booked for 7, ordered at 7.10 - food to table just after 8pm. Not particularly busy. Expensive food (£18.50 for vegan sausage and mash!). Breakfast buffet was good. Gave 4* due to disappointing meal and service in the restaurant.

- Peter (2/5): Hotel from Hell - Was constantly bitten by mosquitoes during the night / have photo evidence of three that i had swatted on the ceiling and walls. Also kept awake from the machinery noise coming from the boiler room adjacent to my room. A sleepless night , deserve a full refund and compensation. This lack of rest and comfort prior to a very important day has had a serious detrimental impact on my well being and the objectives i had lined up for the day. Reported this to reception, night porter took my contact details and said the GM would contact me to discuss my complaint yet he hasnt done so. Obviously doesn't care about his customers.

- Julie (6/5): Avoid desserts - over priced and so small - Receptionist was polite, helpful and friendly, and check in was easy and she booked a table for us in the restaurant. The room and bathroom were clean and bed was comfortable and towels were soft. Had tea making facilities and hairdryer. The bathroom was dated as were the bedroom windows & door onto small patio area, didn't affect our stay but think price for just bedroom was on high side. Went for evening meal and checked in and given choice of 2 tables, drinks order was taken and then main meals ordered. As I am unable to have chocolate products it was a delight to see lemon meringue pie on the dessert menu along with the usual crumble or ice cream options. So I really looked forward to having a difference dessert and visions of a pie "just like mum used to make" being served. However, to say I was extremely disappointed is an understatement when it arrived....and asked waiter to tell kitchen I was not happy It basically was about 2 1/2" small flat tart...pastry with a spread of lemon curd over it and the smallest amount of meringue piping on top....so it tasted of lemon flavoured pastry. Went we went to pay, I was asked if I wanted to make an official compliant, so I said yes. I explained to the "restaurant manager" that I thought it was so small and wasn't worth the money....to which he shrugged his shoulders and said that was the price and basically tough luck....I was expecting him to offer me a discount or a free tea as a gesture of goodwill...but no nothing

- Eva (10/5): - I’ve stayed here a few times. Staff here is incredibly kind and helpful if any issues. The rooms are always nice, clean and very warm (radiator that you can control yourself). One of my favourite things is that each room has a little private balcony so plenty of fresh air available. The beds usually have two types of pillows ( lots of cushions), so you can pick the one that works for you (one is extra plump and the other one is a little lower which I prefer). Some parts of the rooms are a little dated but all is well kept so it’s not an issue from me. During the day staff always makes sure your tea/coffee/water station is topped up and you’ve got fresh towels and nicely made bed on your return. I’ve always had a lovely stay here.
- Denise (8/5): - The hotel was nice and quiet. It is in a quiet area so not great if you need a cab. The downside the hotel locks it doors at midnight which they never informed us about and took 15mins to get someone to oppen the door.
- Jonathan (8/5): Needs a revamp - Was overall good but could be much better if the place was given a much needed facelift especially the bathrooms which were a bit tired but clean, the staff are fantastic and really sell the place giving a lovely welcoming atmosphere the food is lovely but limited and couldn’t fault the breakfast! The location is good if you want a rural setting. Was very cheap so that offsets the flaws and would not rule out going again
- Alexander (4/5): - Property very dated in need of refurbishment . Bar,restaurant and reception are passable but tired with musty smell in some areas. Our room was hideous.Carpet worn and dirty.Furnishings old and damaged. No heating controls that resulted in very hot room. The heating turns on automatically and makes a noise very early in the morning.The radiator controls don’t work. The bathroom was awful.The bath taps are corroded and the tiles are covered in mildew . It’s a long time since we have had a shower curtain and this One had discoloured and smelt. Cleaning was almost non existent apart from the bed being made. From the Road it looks a lovely property,best advice drive by
- Karen (6/5): Would stay again just for the bed - The staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was AMAZING, so comfy and I got a really good night's sleep. Less good was the decor was tatty and the carpet had bleach stains on it, although maybe we were allocated this room as we had an assistance dog with us. The room was freezing and the knob to turn the radiator on was behind a wardrobe out of reach. We did manage to get it going but the room was still chilly. Reception did offer to help us with this. There was no shampoo/body wash in the dispenser.

- Adrian (10/5): Lovely stay - Had a lovely stay which was very much off the cuff, beautiful building, a great balance between the quaint thatched outside and modern interiors. Staff were attentive and always nice, particularly the head of front of house and reception staff. Near a busy road but still very quiet inside all areas. Food was also very nice both for breakfast and evening meals.
- Molly (10/5): Great Place to Stay - Potter’s Heron has it all, including Ken, the resident peacock. The room was comfortable and spacious. We ate at the attached hotel restaurant for both breakfast and dinner and enjoyed all the food. The beef stew was especially tasty. My daughter loved the chicken.

- Dionne (8/5): Good value hotel would stay here again. - Very comfortable hotel with a warm welcome on arrival, very good value for the night, we would stay in the hotel again but would chose not to have breakfast, it was ok, but we thought would be waiter service not buffet as the menu shows eggs benedict pancakes etc and we had no offer of this. Nice quiet area with plenty parking, there was a wedding on but we were not disturbed by it at all.

- Dave (6/5): Nice facade hides a shabby interior. - Nice friendly staff, however rooms tired and shabby. Dirty bathroom, and rooms in a poor state of repair. Good parking, but no electric charge point for EV's. Food in the pub not that good. Basic frozen ingredients, burger and fish in our case, and nothing to write home about. Expensive food for the area as well.
- Julie (10/5): - We had a last minute excellent value one night stay. The staff are all really friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. In contrast with the lovely hotel the room decor was a little tired but the facilities were really good and it was very comfortable (and given the cheap price we weren’t expecting 5* luxury). We really appreciated having a ground floor room with direct access to the outside as we had our dog with us, it was great to stay somewhere genuinely dog friendly. A real highlight in the morning was finding the resident tame and beautiful peacock outside our room. We are so pleased we booked breakfast, it was super. This was our first trip to Potters Heron but definitely won’t be our last. Thank you.
- Non (8/5): Comfy peaceful lovely stay - Very comfy welcoming stay. Friendly efficient staff. Room service meal was delicious. Was a function happening Saturday but the room was located far enough a way not to cause a noise issue. Excellent location as close to all the facilities in Southampton yet a peaceful lovely spot. Would definitely recommend.
- KEITH (10/5): Christmas stay at our favourite hotel of the area. - Stayed at Potters Heron for two nights Christmas and Boxing Days, whilst visiting our family, including our grandchildren in Chandlers Ford. Very convenient, we slept well and we had a well cooked breakfast on the last morning. We have stayed here several times over the years without any issues and it remains our favourite hotel in the area.

- Charlene (6/5): - Thatched cottage surounded by fields, wonderfully peaceful and only a short distance to Winchester. Lovely breakfast and nice restaurant staff. Room was mostly clean, omnious stain on the bed runner and a slight musk of feet when first entering the room, otherwise sheets were fresh and bathroom clean.
- Angela (4/5): Disappointing! - Check-in took almost half an hour with an unfriendly but just about polite receptionist, as the booking had not been sent from Hotel.com. Quite stressful and was asked more than 3 times for my details and to hand the receptionist my phone to check the booking. The service was unfriendly, but then the same receptionist was there day and night, seemingly o a constant shift. The building and grounds are lovely but the whole place needs a re-fit and modernising. A shame really. The Christmas decorations did look nice and festive. Old-fashioned hairdryer. Not enough plug sockets. Booked a meal at the bar separately and it was such a rip off. The food was expensive and the amount and quality was not worth the money.

- Stella (6/5): - When we pulled up to this hotel we were very impressed. And even thought we were going to be out of place. Being Disabled I find stairs very difficult. But there was a huge set to get into the entrance. Reception staff were lovely and explained everything well. Sadly we then had more steps and a long corridor to go down to get to our room. When we opened the room door that’s when the disappointment Hit. We are now on the ground floor and we have a big window and door facing houses but no net curtains, so had to have the curtains closed all the time. One of the main light’s flashed so never had them on. There was brown water marks on the ceiling where upstairs must have had a leak. The pipe on the radiator needed looking at. And in the bathroom the grout round the bath was very dirty. So was the mat that is to be used to stop you slipping in the shower. And the toilet didn’t like to flush even toilet paper away. We only had one pillow each so asked if we could have more. It didn’t seem like we could but thankfully we did. We had breakfast both mornings and definitely can’t complain about any of the food. It was amazing. Although pre book it. As expensive otherwise.

- Paul (8/5): - this impressive looking thatched roof hotel come pub is within easy reach of both romsey/ Winchester & even Southampton.. this hotel is very deceiving and is lager than it looks with many rooms and facilities our room was large and very quite with all the usual room facilities One down side if it is a down side!? Is that the breakfast and evening meals are very expensive parking is free with ample spaces would we stay here again probably yes if we ever visit this area.

Room was good, bed comfy, cleanliness of the bath coulld have been better as noted rust around bath tap. breakfast was first class, made to my specifications. only point really was that having a leaflet with timings of meal times and info on the area would have been good to have in the room
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hotel fabulous but restaurant disappointing - Pros - online check-in minimised reception wait. Reception was very professional anyway - room was very spacious and well presented; bed was actually a superking and had a very comfortable topper. Bathroom showing signs of wear but was still adequate and shower good - housekeeping discreet, helpful and efficient Cons - restaurant experience was very disappointing. Saturday evening dining we chose pate`, which was delicious followed by a quite ordinary fare of fish and chips and pork loin chop. The fish was overcooked and dry. The pork was much better but both were served on cold plates. For the gastro meal and gastro price that was marketed and therefore expected we felt under-awed. We were seated promptly having pre-booked a table and then waited 25 minutes to be given a drinks menu to enable us to order drinks while we chose our food We ordered a bottle of champagne. This was delivered to our table, already opened without any sign of the cork or foil. It made us rather suspicious as we felt this should be opened at the table after showing us the bottle. We had to pour our own champagne which we didn't actually mind, but just thought the first glass should have been done by the waiter. We would have liked to try a dessert but no- one returned to our table to take any further orders. Sunday breakfast was buffet style. We breakfasted at 10am - not much left and it was cold. We had to help ourselves to a thermos of coffee - also cold. Come on...

- Verified traveler (6/5): Pretty but very outdated - Decoration is getting very tired, carpet is threadbare and stained in places, mould in the bathroom, none standard plug socket in the bedroom so couldn’t charge our IPads or Phones in the bedroom. Which caused a problem. Having a shower was extremely difficult as you have to climb into the bath and fight the shower curtain which would wrap around you as you tried to shower, walk in shower cubicle would be so much nicer, Very horrible smell in the lobby, Restaurant staff very nice but half the food items were off the menu so it was very limited. But Breakfast was very good. Overall staff extremely friendly and a very pretty place to stay. But low standers in the bedroom let the place down

The food is basic, I ordered squid to start, the batter was terrible, flaked off - seemed as though it was zapped up in the microwave. I sent it back, swapped for soup, tasteless. My Caesar salad was ok, nothing to write home about. With a pint, the meal was over £30 for a basis starter, main. Rip-Off!
