Guest Reviews
- CAROLYN (2/5): - The place was in need of a huge refurbishment. Threadbare carpet in dangerous places (stairs).
Room clean initially but not cleaned through the week we were there.
Decided lack of options for breakfast...awaiting delivery...all week!!?
- Dave (8/5): Port Sunlight Stay Over - Really enjoyable stay in a lovely setting.
- Amelia (4/5): A disappointing stay at the Bridge Inn - We stayed at the Bridge inn for a long weekend break whilst visiting family. Our room was very basic which is what was expected, however the bathroom was extremely dated and the shower was totally unusable. It was essentially a hose attached to the taps and was absolutely scalding hot, even when turning the cold all the way up and the hot all the way down. Breakfast was very disappointing and we were shocked to see that it was £9 for those eating in the one room, however if you went into the restaurant/bar area, all the menus advertise breakfast for around £5. After seeing this we went elsewhere for breakfast as felt ripped off. We ate in the restaurant on our last night and the food was your typical microwave/pre cooked pub food but was cheap so can’t complain. Most staff didn’t really interact with us, however will say the lady working the breakfast was lovely. We did have an issue with getting additional toilet rolls, tea and coffee for the room as the staff working didn’t know where they were kept. Instead we were given a giant roll normally used in public toilets (the ones that go in the dispensers) and a handful of sweetener from the bar. We did also notice that the carpets throughout the hotel were threadbare and ripped, particularly on the stairs, which made the place look very run down and neglected.
All in all, the only thing we could highly rate was the location as it was perfectly located for nearby family, however we won’t be returning in the future.
- Neil (10/5): - Great value, fantastic staff and atmosphere. Lovely area and very clean will stay again
- Leah (8/5): Super staff! - Staff were so friendly, food was fine, very laid back hotel, rooms could do with a little updating but it’s clearly an old building, overall our stay was great!
- Kay (8/5): Nice hotel - The hotel had very good wifi, we did not eat there, found the carpet a bit worn in places but it was fine for a few nights.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Bridge Inn - Nice pub in a nice quiet area and very handy for the train into Liverpool.
Good reasonably priced menu. Staff very friendly and helpful.
- Norman (10/5): Lovely Little Pub/Hotel in a very pleasant Area. - Great Hotel for overnight accomodation when going to Northern Ireland via the Liverpool-Belfast ferry. Tkes around 15 minutes from the hotel to the ferry terminal. The surrounding area is great with a lot of Heritage. Well worth staying here if you like the Heritage of the place.
- Alasdair (8/5): - Quiet room overlooking park, efficient service at breakfast, modernised bathroom, comfortable room
- Ian (10/5): - Beautiful location, lovely staff
- Roderick (8/5): Great value and fabulous location. - Everything was spotlessly clean. The building was a bit run down, with threadbare stair carpets, wooden windows beginning to rot and leaky gutter outside my room. My full English breakfast was perfectly cooked and excellent value. I wasn't charged for extra eggs and tea and toast to finish with. The parking was good and the location beautiful next to the model village of Sunlight.
- Christine (2/5): - The whole place was awful. I had driven 5 hours from London. When I got there I had to wait although check in time was 2 didn’t get in the room until 3 . The room was awful . Old moth eaten carpet. Window ledge filthy . I complained to the boy at reception and he went and spoke to the manager . He came back and said it had been noted. If I could have found somewhere else to stay I would have gone. I’m very disappointed and will be taking this matter further.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - On arrival, the staff seem a little unprepared, took us to the hotel ‘reception’ where one person was seated
- Miguel (8/5): - I personally really loved the area, it was quite easy to get around by car or walking.
The hotel is located inside a small village, the area around it is very nice, green and quiet. The staff was great and friendly, the food was okay, but the infrastructure of the hotel most definitely needs an update. Walls are cracking in the room, I found a whole on the ceiling in the bathroom from a water leak that, you can just tell this home was built in the late 1800s.
Overall it’s a great place to stay, and you get your money worth (compared to other places it’s quite affordable imo)
- Thomas (10/5): - Really great check in and check out times so super flexible. Bedrooms spacious and decorated nicely. Really enjoyed my stay with my partner
- TONY (10/5): Great stay - We had 2 nights stay and it was lovely. Staff are great, food was excellent.
- martin (6/5): Hotel and staff were good. Food service a problem - Stayed here last year and the food service in the restaurant was much better. Evening meal the first night i waited about 40 minutes for the meal to arrive (the food itself was good). The second night there were no bar staff behind the bar for about 10 minutes with customers all waiting. Two other people complained that they had waited half an hour for food at which point the staff said the computer in the kitchen might not be picking up orders from the bar computer so i left to make other arrangements which was inconvenient.
- Hugh (6/5): - Nice original Arts and Crafts inn appropriate for Port Sunlight. Somewhat neglected by its owners. Room and bathroom basic but spacious, good firm bed. Good value. Only real problem was that no breakfast was available as the cook hadn't turned up by 8am.
- Neil (8/5): Good value hotel - Comfortable room, but the hotel could really do with refurbishment. The carpets on the stairs and upstairs corridors are threadbare. Couldn't fault the friendly service though!
- Verified traveler (8/5): ability of being great hotel but need renovation - It has the makings of being a great hotel but needs some money spent on renovations as it is looking tired.

Staff are great
- Katrina (8/5): - Within walking distance to the train station (very convenient), room a nice sized, bed was comfortable, a very good breakfast
- Steve (8/5): Friendly staff tired environment - The hotel is ideal to visit Port Sunlight or the Lady Lever art gallery. Its very central and 6/7 minutes walk from the station. The staff were friendly however its showing its age and many carpets were worn through and the feel is very 1960s. It was clean enough but room service was minimalistic.
Biggest problem was the restaurant as my partner is vegetarian and gluten free and there was nothing for her on the massive menu and staff wouldn't make sides into a meal. If you are a meat/wheat eater there is a massive choice and prices are cheap. Luckily there was a small Italian (not open every day) about 10 mins walk away just under the railway bridge.
- trevor (4/5): require a refurbishment - rooms were very run down with threadbare carpet in the room and conmmunal stair carpet was held together with duck tap.
however staff were friendly and helpful.
food was not that good
- Chris (8/5): - Grade 2 listed building unfortunately dated accomodations and furnishings but by all means happily stay again as love port sunlight village, friendly staff in the bridge 👌.
- Wendy (4/5): - I did not stay. Didnt feel welcoming and didnt like the feel of the place. Was travelling alone and I have to feel that I would have a good nights sleep.
- Tracy (10/5): Great value for money - Great location comfortable bed
- Hayley (4/5): - Bed comfy and clean, cold water wouldn’t work for the shower, water was scolding. Hotel needs updating.
- Neil (10/5): Clean and comfy - Clean and comfortable place to stay. Admittedly the stair carpets could do with replacing, but overall very good.
- Sudhakar (8/5): Good Value for money, comfortable stay - Good location and the bar served food. Good value for money
- Julie (10/5): Welcoming & clean - We are regular visitors to The Bridge and have always found staff friendly and helpful.
Although the decor en route to rooms is a little worn the bedrooms themselves are nicely decorated, clean and comfortable.
The restaurant is a useful facility and provides good value for money
- Frances (2/5): - Do not book this hotel i went in the room , the smell of urine was disgraceful i had cleansing wipes with me and was cleaning key points of contact. Opened window and knew i couldn't stay in the room. Then the door would not open after a time i managed to open the door. The door would not close after leaving room.
Went to reception and told them the details as above. Asked for another room told non available. Had a refund and staff did apologised.
- agnes (8/5): - Hotel was lovely in a great location. Staff were all very nice and friendly. Food was lovely and very reasonably priced. Enjoyed our stay. Room and beds very comfortable. We will return
- Neil (10/5): - The competitive rate, really friendly and helpful staff, comfortable bed, great value / well cooked food and amazing surroundings more than offset some property issues raised in other reviews. Would stay again without hesitation.
- Paul (6/5): - We had 2 nights at the Bridge Inn Hotel. Our room wasn't serviced after the 1st night. We didn't expect towels to be changed or a deep clean. Check toiletries, toilet roll soap etc. Top up tea and coffee. These are basics. Had to chase around and ask bar staff for coffee! On a plus, the Bridge Inn is in a great location. Port Sunlight is a great place to visit.
- Michael (8/5): Bridge Inn stay - Great staff, hotel could do with a bit of an update in places, but very comfortable room. Its an old building so challenging to keeep updated.
- Barry (10/5): - good location , good hotel good price
- E (8/5): A good place to stay. - Situated in the Port Sunlight model village, a wonderful area to wander around. This historic building is part of a chain - as such, the menus reflect this. But the food was fine - we had breakfast included, and it was generally well done. There was a lack of consistent information about the breakfast serving time, though -some other guests were told different times. The room was good, with a good size en-suite. There was a slight noise during the day from a ventilation duct outside our window, but this wasn't running late, or overnight. Whilst the pub is below, we noticed no noise. The absence of USB sockets in the room shows the hotel needs a slight update - and worn stair carpet also points to it being due, but this is minor. The bed was too firm for my liking, giving me a slight backache, but I know this is a personal thing.
- Karen (8/5): - Hotel is attached to a pub so there was always availability for food / drink. Breakfast at pub prices instead of hotel prices. Cocktails were nice. Bedroom was basic but had everything you needed. No lift that I found. Carpets near the bedrooms are worn out and need replacing but there was nothing wrong with the hotel and the staff were very friendly.
- Jane (8/5): Our first stay - On arrival check in was easy and good, unfortunately not disabled friendly, Staff member Mark helped by carrying our luggage upstairs to the room as husband on crutches, room was at the far end of the corridor and no lift. No disabled parking either. Room clean, but could do with being redecorated. Shower was quite poor and not very powerful and the water was exceptionally hot.
Ate in the bar the first night, meal was ordered, on arrival my garlic bread was cold reported it and was told it would be replaced. Finished the meal and still no replacement garlic bread, on going to pay, gave feedback to Mark who apologised and gave us the meal for free. Both other nights we ate in the restaurant, Sean was a very attentive hardworking member of the team who provided us with good service and the food was excellent.
- Ahmad (10/5): Comfortable stay for a great price - Great spacious room - comfy bed - great value for money - delicious English breakfast options.
- Stephen (10/5): - Quaint, has character
- Joanne (6/5): - The room was basic but clean, bed was very firm, shower was very poor- water leaked everywhere and was no more than a trickle so we had to have baths instead (room 5) The checkout time on our booking via Expedia was 12 noon but we were advised by the staff that we had to be out by 11
- Martin (8/5): - Very pleasant situation. Hotel could do with a little modernising but was clean and the staff at reception and the dining area (Sean) were very welcoming and attentive . Overall a very enjoyable stay and I would definitely make a return visit.
- Mark (8/5): Good value for money. - Friendly pub / hotel, listed building with old windows, etc but clean, tidy, friendly staff, excellent value for money, food quality and price - you couldn't ask for better.
- Andrew (8/5): - Room cold . Could not get heating to activate
- James (6/5): Fairy basic - The room was a bit tired and threadbare, but served my needs adequately.
- Jason (6/5): - Very tired property, shower didn’t work very well at all, no Wi-Fi and a lot of carpets taped up with quite a few wooden fixtures badly damaged. Will not be returning here.
- Julie (8/5): Good value - Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and clean bedroom with value for money and tasty food
- Chris (10/5): - Very nice place, i will be staying here again
- Peter (8/5): visit to port sunlight - staff was pleasant food good maybe needs a bit up dating in places
- Stephen (6/5): Stephen - Stayed here for a few weeks working . Old fashioned rooms but very functional.
Creaky floorboards in the hallways due to it being an old building.
Food reasonable in the bar downstairs.
Plenty of parking in a quiet area.
Beds are clean and comfortable
- Michael (8/5): - No elec socket by the bedside
- Stephen (8/5): Stephen - Clean and functional. Rooms are old fashioned. I book this for work purposes but wouldn’t book for a holiday break . Old building with creaky floors . Pub and restaurant are convenient below rooms.
- ELIZABETH (8/5): - Lovely building, now rather shabby, but clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Convenient for visiting family close by
- Vincent (8/5): - Beautiful property with large paned windows framed in wood. The gabled exterior design; and beautiful changing designs of the interior. Olden, curious, feeling of at home and contentment. I would stay there every time for sure.
Vincent.
- Julie (8/5): - Located in the historic village of Port Sunlight the Bridge Inn provided comfortable and clean accommodation with friendly and attentive staff. Reasonably priced food options and pleasant walks to enjoy.
- Alexandra (8/5): - Was a nice pub/hotel, room was tidy and clean great for what I needed. Had its own bathroom had bath and shower but shower didn’t work. On Wednesday nights the local church next door has does bell ringing from 7:30 till 9pm for practicing, it was a bit much but the other nights it was quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel was ideal for what I needed for my work trip.
- David (6/5): - Unfortunately this hotel needs a major refurbishment. the challenge is that it is a grade 2 listed property so this will be expensive which might prevent the refurbishment taking place.
The staff were very efficient and helpful. breakfast excellent.
- Catherine (8/5): Sweet hotel in Port Sunlight - Lovely spot to stay in Port Sunlight. If I'd stayed longer I would have had a drink and a meal there. Basic room, but lots of space and very clean. Only things missing for me was only 1 teabag/milk per person in the room (would have liked another for the morning); and reception wasn't always obvious or easy to find someone to answer questions (but when they did they were super helpful).
- Loretta (2/5): Worst hotel ever - The beds were so bad we had to go out and buy a futon to sleep on the floor as we had booked multiple nights and after the first night I woke up with an aching back, one daughter ended up sleeping on the floor and the other managed to curl her body around sticking out springs in the single bed. When I asked staff if there were any other rooms we could change to I was told there wasn't "but too be honest, all the mattresses are the same". Another staff member told me that staff joke that the hotel is like the hotel in Faulty Towers because things are always going wrong and they are trying to cover up for them (including dodgy showers). DEFINITELY DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL
- colin (8/5): - I love the arts and crafts architecture and history of this property. I found it convenient for all the activities that I needed to perform in the area. Being in the Port Sunlight village is a huge bonus.
- Alicia (6/5): Tired and in need of refurbishment - Warm welcome from staff on arrival, and went out of way to arrange kitchen to stay open for a meal after late arrival. Food was limited (with restaurant closed) but very good meal. The whole place is tired and in need of some refurbishment. My room was particularly in need of change, tired furniture, poor quality bed and particularly the bathroom was very old and basic. A good clean would have been nice too. The other issue was that the free Wi-Fi was not password protected and I could not get it to open anything on the iPad. Consequently I had to breakfast elsewhere where I could get a decent Wi-Fi connection. I was told that a make-over is on the cards, but will probably not stay again until this has gone through. Shame as I used to stay here a lot about 10 years ago.
- Helen (6/5): - Receptionist didn’t speak or look up when we checked out. Too engrossed in his own phone.
- Margaret (2/5): - Faulty Towers. Building needs refurbishment. Most of the staff were pleasent but didn't see the manager. Reception area rarely covered. Bar staff refused to serve us at 10.45pm as she had rung the bell at 10.40pm. Had to ask for coffee satchets 3 times to be put in room and when the staff did she put 2 satchets in and it was a family room and we had another 2 days. Husband was asked to remove his baseball cap in the bar they said because of security and cameras in the bar. There was only 2 of us in the bar? Took half an hour to wait for breakfast on last day and they came to the table whilst we were eating to ask us to clear our rooms as we were late checking out. Forgot to pay for breakfast one morning and that evening the pub was busy and girl on the bar till said we have an outstanding payment as we did not pay for breakfast. Loud enough for other customers to hear. Would have been more professional to sort it out when we checked out as we assumed the breakfast bill would be put on our tab. Gave up on the toilet roll being re filled and bought our own. Wanted to sit on table in higher deck of restaurant but told we couldn't, although there was a table of four sitting there. The staff are very pleasent but need training to offer a more professional service. The bridge is a lovely old building but needs substantial investment. However it is a cash cow waiting to happen.
- Lesley (8/5): Wedding - The staff always friendly. Room and hotel a bit dated, shower was a trickle
- Denise (10/5): Excellent - Visiting friend in Sligo girlie night away xx
- michael (10/5): - Staff were fantastic nothing was to much trouble for them. The food was great and at reasonable prices. The bedrooms could do with updating but this would not put me off staying here again. Fantastic location right in the heart the wonderful of Port Sunlight.
- Mr r m dalton (8/5): A good stay - I was only there to sleep. Staff was friendly and breakfast was nice.
- Christopher (8/5): - Room comfortable & clean.
Staff very helpful as always
- Thomas (10/5): - We had a nice big, clean room. Plenty of heat and very quiet. Parking was handy. The restaurant food was good English food and the bar was pleasant and welcoming.
- Martin (2/5): Good hotel? No idea - it was closed! - Arrived to find rooms closed
No notification in advance
- Mark (8/5): - Stayed one night for business to save on travel.
Stayed in a single room, bed was comfortable and room was very quiet.
The decor is a bit tired in places but it was clean and tidy and suited an overnight stay
- Mike (8/5): Weekend away. - The rooms are a bit dated and could do with tidying up. Though this is a lovely listed building. The staff were very friendly and helpful, The food was extremly good especially the breakfast. There was a good selection of drinks in the bar which were reasonably priced. Though we did not travel by car the hotel has a very large car park.
- C (8/5): A night in Port Sunlight - Hotel decor was somewhat tired The staff were superb were most helpful food was of a good standard if somewhat basic
- Dave (6/5): What a paradox! - On arrival, I was met with a very friendly and helpful receptionist, who went out of her way to make me feel welcome, and assisted me with booking in and Wi-fi registration. Offered dinner and the bar, and discussed parking arrangements. Perfect. Couldn’t fault it. But then I got to my room, a smaller double, but which looked like it would benefit from a lick of fresh paint, and had several dead insects (ladybirds I think) laying on the windowsill. The bed was very comfortable. In the morning, the shower was disappointingly low powered, and rather cool. Certainly not a hot shower. All this being said, all the staff, from reception to housekeeping to bar and restaurant were first class, and deserve great credit. I still enjoyed my stay at the Bridge Inn, but a cleaner room and hotter shower would have been appreciated
- Stephen (10/5): Fabulous staff, hotel needs some love! - Great friendly and welcoming staff, food was good too. Hotel is a little tired and in need of a bit of TLC, the main issue i had was that the water pressure in Room10 was so poor i couldn't have a shower and it took about 20 minutes to get enough water in the bath to wash in. All that said i would stay again if working nearby.
- Rob (8/5): Work - Stayed before larger than average single, decent ensuite. Good food and breakfast
- Jason (8/5): Great little place, best when not too busy. - Great small hotel in Port Sunlight. Nice to be able to have a beer in the bar.
Staff seemed to struggle when things got busy, food often took a while to arrive. Breakfast took about 45 minutes to come on the second morning.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - First night service in the restaurant was bad,so only had breakfast each morning were the service was good but unfortunately there was no soya milk.need descent mattress.could not use shower as water pressure was not powerful enough.on a positive note, breakfast was loverly, room was very clean.
- Adam (10/5): - great staff staff, very efficient and freindly.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Be sure they are taking bookings. - Rubbish. Booked in advance and called to confirm everything was good during these covid times. I was told it was all good.
Arrived the following day to be told they weren't open as a hostelry.
Sort yourselves out. Absolutely disgraceful service
- Kerry (6/5): - The room and hotel are very tired.
The room itself was lovely and big but freezing cold.
Having a shower was impossible as the pressure was almost non-existent and the water only tepid, despite a sign stating to take care of the hot water.
There was no soap, and whilst I understand that du to covid reusable options are not available, I’m sure that sachets would be possible. Having no access to soap is unhygienic, especially with covid. We also had to ask for milk for tea, and only two cups were provided despite us clearly booking a family room.
The staff were lovely and very polite.
- James (8/5): Nice stay - Good service and clean bedroom. Bit shabby in places especially bedroom windows (room 10). Nice stay though and staff are veryfriendly.
- Charlie (4/5): Very disappointing - The hotel was in desperate need of refurbishment. The sockets didn't work in my room, it was cold even with the radiator on, and the water from the cold tap was not drinkable (ran it for 5 minutes and it was still coming through full of white bits) Food was so poor, I opted to go to a Costa down the road for breakfast. When I mentioned the problems at check-out the staff member said she didn't even know what to say to customers; the hotel was meant to be refurbed in January but the date kept getting put back. I'd advise to avoid this one until it's been refurbished.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice staff, breakfast is good value . The water pressure in the shower is hopeless, the bar/restaurant is nice but the rooms are v tired and mould around tiles in the bathroom
- Liann (4/5): Very poor hotel - The room needs a refurbishment as it’s very dated. No hot water for a shower! When I mentioned this the response was, ‘oh yes it happens all the time, it’s an old building’. Not very helpful and very poor customer service. Breakfast, there wasn’t enough sausage for my wife to have a sandwich. Again very poor!
If you want a bed for a night, great. Unfortunately if you would like a real hotel experience, then book somewhere else!
- Paul (6/5): A little detail and it could be ace. - Good food, room ok, shower was bad, hot then cold then scalding.
- Clive (6/5): Dogs life - To much noise in next room there was a dog in there howling all night. And people doing karaoke until 11 ‘o’ clock on a Wednesday really. If you have to stay make sure you don’t have to get up for work at 5am joke
- Verified traveler (6/5): Merely adequate quality but helpful and friendly - No bell / buzzer in Reception. Keys are on a massive piece of wood. Room needed the decor to be patched up. Couldn’t get my legs under the desk to do my work. Wi-fi connection had an aggressive timeout and I had to reconnect if I didn’t use for ten mins. Shower is a mixer from the tap and didn’t come through at the same temperature. Very awkward. Loud noise outside perhaps an AC unit. Windows blocked none of it out. Restaurant staff apparently overloaded. All staff struggling with IT systems. They were all helpful and friendly though.
- Geoffrey (8/5): Stay 10 - 14 Nov. - Beautiful location within Port Sunlight village. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room very large with views over park. Decor slightly tired and could do with some updating but otherwise fine.Nice period property.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Attentive service from all the staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Old fashioned but very clean and very warm, lovely big room! Felt very cosy in there and slept great.
However the shower was so weak it barely felt like there was any water on me and trying to get the right temperature also proved difficult as it was either too hot or too cold.
- Ian (8/5): Bridge inn. - Room and bathroom were clean and relatively comfortable.
Hotel is very old but for £45 a night it’s very good value.
There was quite a lot of noise from adjacent rooms and bar area below but as stated above it’s good value and you get what you pay for.
- PHILIP (8/5): - Had a four night stay and found the bridge inn to be idealy located for visiting the city on sightseeing trips, found the staff very freindly and good at their jobs, The food in the restaurant was exelent and well priced, The only negative point was the rooms could do with an update, i would gladly stay there on my next visit to merseyside.
- matthew (10/5): - Great
- Justin (8/5): Bridge Inn - Pleasant hotel in nice location. Staff all friendly. Would stay again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - That it was old! Great service and the room is huge quiet road! Amazing pub and food!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property is old and worn out. No investment for years. Rooms are clean but simply old.
Bathroom has never been modernised.
Yes it is low cost and for low end of market.
Sad indeed for such a prime property in such great location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable clean and basic. Had what you needed. Somewere to sleep n get a shower. We booked the family room. It was lively on evening in the bar but by 11-12 was quiet wasnt a issue. Would stay agin for how cheap we got booking.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The Bridge Inn is a cool building with a great pub, in a quiet area and a great price but you have to concede to things like older fittings and limited operating times (restaurant stopped serving at 9.30pm on a Friday, breakfast started at 8.30am)
But what you lose there you gain in character and charm
