Guest Reviews
- Bernadette (5/5): Disappointing - Toilet seat had cracked paint- hygiene hazard, wooden skirting board round bath coming away.Accommodation part felt slightly run down and could do with a bit of a spruce up.
- Pamela (10/5): Great room, comfortable bed and great breakfast. Thank you - Have stayed here before. Across the road from Hull University and the was perfect as my son lives close by. Not applicable

- Elaine (10/5): -
- Michael (7/5): Ideal location for what we required - Room ok. Disappointed with breakfast, bacon over cooked, sausage undercooked.
- Shaun (10/5): Great Place to Stay - We stayed whilst my son recovered from an operation at the local hospital. The staff were amazing. They went out of their way to help us during our stay, and the housekeeping team was fantastic leaving clean towels, tea and coffee by the door so not to disturb us. I would highly recomend staying here. Also the food was great, priced reasonably and again the bar staff went above and beyond Nothing, everything was great
- Beattie (1/5): Worst accommodation I've ever stayed in. - Location Room was dirty, damp, wallpaper coming off and threadbare carpets. Extremely dated.
- Neil Dudley (10/5): - Was great no problems at all Everything
- PETER (8/5): -
- Andy (7/5): - Staff were welcoming and very friendly Dated and in need of attention to decor and repairs doing
- alex (8/5): - Everything NA
- Larkham (8/5): Nice room, nice hotel....... - Room itself was pleasant and comfortable. Hotel good location for my event. Good evening meals. Good price. Only serious drawback was the number of steps and corridors I had to drag my heavy luggage along to and from my room - a member of staff helped me with this on my arrival; but this wasn't possible on my trips to and from my event, or on my departure, and frankly was off-putting.
- rick (8/5): - The location for us, the friendly staff and relaxed environment in the pub itself good choice of food and drinks Unfortunately this time the room location, very noisy machinery going all night and along way from the facilities many doors, steps and stairways to traverse
- Simon (8/5): -
- Bonnet (10/5): The old grey mare hull - Very enjoyable stay at this property the room was clean the staff were freindly and very helpful only stayed one night as we were going to a gig in cottingham the food was really nice well cooked and well presented would definitely stay here again the bed was exceptionly comfortable had a really good nights sleep There was nothing to dislike
- Anne (8/5): Good value for money and ideal location for our needs. - It was well situated for a family event we had travelled to Hull to attend.
Good menus - we had a light meal before heading to our family event then breakfast the following morning.
We’d definitely stay again. Minor niggles - there was no fruit or yoghurt at breakfast as advertised, but the cooked breakfast was excellent, and the top of the hot tap in that basin in our bathroom (room 10) was missing.
- Ann (8/5): Nice little place - The room was a good size & it was quiet. There was somewhere to hang clothes. The beds were comfortable. The shower was decent. It was a bit of a trek to our room with cases but it was quiet so it was worth it. There were coffee bags but nothing in decaff & I can't have caffeine.

- Ruth (8/5): -
- Jo (10/5): Great place to stay for the University of Hull, good food and experience - Great choice at breakfast cooked to order so hot and yum. The walk to the room was a long one and seemed to go on forever but worth it. It was exactly as it stated on the information and in the perfect position for the reason of travel. Great staff friendly and VERY helpful All was good I have no complaints
- William (6/5): Served me needs well for a one off stay - A single overnight stay. Room was dated but clean with everything I needed. Food in the evening was very good as was breakfast. Staff were very helpful The long walk to room 4.
- Chris (10/5): -
- CHRISTOPHE (7/5): - Proximité de l'université, calme. Parking gratuit. Tres copieux petit-déjeuner. Bon rapport qualité prix Vétusté de la chambre.
- Donna (10/5): -
- Richardson (8/5): Good location for us and reasonable cost - Location was good for where we needed to be. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was as expected. Good value menu breakfast freshly cooked Room especially bathroom a bit tired. No cask ale and the food was basic.
- Susan (6/5): - The staff maintenance of the rooms was very poor
- Melanie (8/5): -
- Hugh (8/5): Good stay near the university - Really helpful and flexible staff. Good VFM. Excellent location for the university
- Jak (8/5): -
- Roger (7/5): Adequate and convenient venue for university access - Evening menu
Staff attitudes
Bar
Location - including parking Spartan rooms
Poor cereal choice
Lack of pastries at time required
- lulu (8/5): Great staff and comfortable, will be going again soon. - The breakfast was lovely and done to my liking. There was nicely cooked 2 rashers of bacon, a sausage, an egg, beans, mushrooms, hash browns and a grilled tomato and two pieces of toast. I also had a pot of tea with milk and an apple juice with ice. I then decided to have a latte which was just as nice as all the rest. My room was a good size with a wardrobe, set of draws with kettle, tea, coffee, sugar and milk provided and two cups with teaspoons. The room was comfortable with en suite so I had a nice stay. Dinner was in the bar via a menu that had a range of chose at reasonable prices. The only thing I can think of was a small problem with the hot water tap which was going to be sorted as soon as possible. Other then that I had a lovely stay .
- Hayley (5/5): -
- Kieran (10/5): -
- Michael (8/5): Very enjoyable. Will look forward to next visit. - Well situated for my needs. Great atmosphere in the bar and dining room. Good food. Wonderfully friendly staff A minor item. Layout of bathroom in room 4. But far, far outweighed by the positives.
- Alison (8/5): Good value, fabulous friendly staff. - The staff were amazing. So friendly and helpful. Food was really good value as well. So the place looks a little bit faded but that didn’t put us off really and everything was really clean.
- MCVDRB (5/5): - The location was good. Breakfast was good. The building and rooms were old and needing to be updated.
- Ian (8/5): -
- Steven (6/5): - Staff and bar area Quality of the accommodation
- michael (9/5): Everything you could want for a good value stay. - Lovely staff, good location for the University, and of course it’s a pub! Bathroom a little tired, but it’s very good value.
- Jeanette (8/5): Decent place to stay - Lovely staff.nice food. Comfy bed. The radiator in the main room didn't work. So cold. Extractor fan in bathroom very loud. Im almost completely deaf with hearing aids and could still hear it.
- Helen (8/5): -
- Mike (8/5): Perfect for visitors to the University. - The staff were all lovely, welcoming & helpful. It's a pub with rooms. Rooms are slightly tired & definitely budget, but that's fine cos so is the price. The breakfast was ok, but maybe a bit overpriced compared to similar alternatives.
- Hazel (8/5): Fab stay and location. - Friendly staff, clean and comfortable. Everything needed was there. Clear instructions. Radiator didn’t turn off in bathroom so very hot and had to have windows open, which allowed noise in from outside affecting sleep.
- Tony (7/5): -
- ye (1/5): - No one is on duty at night. You can't refund if you don't check in.
- Louise (5/5): -
- Carla (9/5): -
- Susie (8/5): The friendliness of the staff was the stand out feature of the place. - The staff were very welcoming and made the whole stay really personal. Room and bathroom were a bit shabby but still clean and comfortable.

Good selection of reasonable priced food. Great breakfast.
Clean room.
Free onsite parking. Everything was great, no complaints.
- Ellie (10/5): - The room was very big, clean and welcoming the bed was very comfy, we slept very well with no noise.
- kate (4/5): I think I will avoid booking again - In need of refurbishment, staff lovely, but honestly it was pretty shabby The carpet the bed the bathroom, the size of the room, the noise
- Carl (8/5): - Food was lovely Rooms suited purpose but needs modification and decorating
- Sue (5/5): Little pricy for the dated room. - Pub was nice.
Food was OK. Room was very dated and a little shabby.
- Abbie (9/5): A great friendly place - Friendly staff, good food, great room, comfy bed.
- Gary (8/5): - Everything we saw was fine. The fact we didn't get in to the concert which we went for.
- Rebecca (10/5): I always have a great time staying here and this time was no exception. - The room was basic but functional, with everything in working order. The bed was comfortable and although it was hot when I visited, there was a fan in my room that kept me nice and cool. The pub served all my food needs and the staff were very friendly. This hotel is perfectly located for my needs whenever I'm in Hull. The only negative about this hotel is the corridor leading to the rooms is very long and has a lot of random stairs. It's fine for me, but I wouldn't recommend for anyone with mobility issues.
- Joan (7/5): Very enjoyable - Meals very good value Staff friendly and helpful Cleaning staff very efficient and helpful There were a couple of steps leading down to bathroom and front door A bit dangerous in the night if you had to visit the bathroom
- Paige (7/5): -
- Elizabeth (8/5): Good - Breakfast ok, location good, staff very pleasant No air con 😰
- Steve (9/5): We had a really nice, relaxed and trouble free stay. - Breakfast staff were excellent. Lovely friendly and personal service. Eggs cooked to order was an impressive touch, not often seen in more expensive hotels these days. To be honest, for the money, location and service, I have no complaints or issues at all.
- Peter (8/5): The staff were very friendly and helpful. - Excellent
- Keith (9/5): Very good staff and had great time in hull - Very good selection for breakfast which was very good
- David (10/5): Brilliant - Breakfast was good Nothing
- sanjo (8/5): -
- Mathew (8/5): - Right location. Near buses taking you to town. Near to University. Within walking distance of main campus.
Convenient having a bar and kitchen if you don't want to go into the centre to eat. Although you are within walking distance of the avenues whish have bars and restaurants.
Staff were pleasantl and helpful. Rooms basic but clean. Beds comfortable. TzV and complimentary tea and coffee. Bathroom clean and functional. Nothing major.
- Ian (8/5): satisfactory stay in a good location - Clean and tidy - pleasant staff our room was a little noisy from below
- Roy (8/5): -
- Hollie (2/5): -
- andrew (8/5): Stayed for work all was good - Parking in front and back of hotel Long walk to rooms as it’s up and down stairs
- Harriet (7/5): Well located for the university, basic pub accommodation with friendly staff - Cosy and comfortable beds Carpets and bathroom rather dated. radiator stuck on max
- Susanna (8/5): A great place to stay apart from the heat in the room. - The bed was very comfortable, there were tea and coffee making facilities that were replenished once I’d used them, the bathroom was a very good size with an efficient shower. The location was also very good and the price was excellent. The room was far too hot even with all the windows open and it was impossible to turn the radiators off.
- Chris (6/5): -
- Annette (7/5): -
- Lorraine (7/5): -
- Colin (9/5): -
- Ann (7/5): - Staff were friendly & helpful It was noisy
- Lisa (9/5): Lovely stay which fitted our needs perfectly. - Great location and relaxed but professional environment. Ate lunch and breakfast here, both excellent. Nothing, everything was spot on.
- Dominic (5/5): Great location, well priced, lovely staff, hottest room I have ever stayed in. - The staff were great, very helpful. The location for visiting/collecting my son from Uni could not have been better. My only issue was the windows in the bathroom could do with a blind (I know the glass is frosted) and the room itself was hotter than the surface of the sun and there was no way to control the temperature. The heat in the room was intense.
- Susan (8/5): -
- Robert (8/5): - Location was spot on for what we needed Room looked a bit dated and could do with a refurbishment
- Angela (4/5): - The bed linen & towels were clean. Toenails on the carpet
Smell of cigarette smoke
Stained toilet
Noisy extractor outside the window
- Michelle (6/5): The staff were fantastic, food was good pub food, the facilities not so much - The staff and food were very good. The bathroom was awful, tiles over the tub were hanging off, the bed was so hard we didnt sleep
- Nareman (7/5): -
- Pat (10/5): I would stay again. Its not my first stay here so I know its good. - The only issue I had was that the room was too hot. The radiator in the bathroom was red hot and I couldn't turn it off. I had a window open and it didn't help. I didn't sleep well as a result
- Simon (8/5): Very enjoyable will stay there again - The property was nice and in a close vicinity to Hull. We had a bath and shower in our room and a comfortable bed. Had some home comforts kettle tea and coffee and enough space to hang your clothes. Felt the room could have done updating with a touch of paint.
- Kai (10/5): -
- Bev (7/5): Good value for money, mostly. Staff excellent. - Location and staff. Some meals served luke warm.
- Scott (7/5): -
