Guest Reviews
- Daniel (8/5): - A bit dated but still had a good nights sleep despite being close to the dual carriageway. Room was clean and had a nice shower. Plenty of parking too.
- Kelly (8/5): Happy travels - Helpful staff. Arrived early , wasn’t an issue in this occasion. Room basic but clean and great amenities, iron and ironing board , hairdryer. Bed perfectly reasonable. Bathroom very clean .
The only thing that maybe an option for future solo female guests( & I know this is whole political area) is to ask if they are happy to have a room on the ground floor .
Would definitely stay again , when visiting family in the area . Easy check out
- Nicholas (4/5): - Generally the hotel was a bit grubby, musty smell and a huge stain on the carpet in my room.
Waitress and bar staff were both eating when I wanted to be served.
I did eat dinner and breakfast which were ok.
I would not stay there again.
- Alan (4/5): One to avoid - Room was very noisy due to nearby major road junction. Family room felt a bit dark and dingy. TV didn't work, had no reception so couldn't get many channels and those it did get were unwatchable. Pub was nice, but the food was only average and didn't live up to expectations. We were glad we were only staying one night.
- Geoffrey (6/5): Ok for an overnighter - The hotel is perfectly located for an overnight stay straight off the A46.
The staff are friendly and attentive.
The food is good (evening meal & breakfast),
The style of the hotel is endearing, however it has so many scars and is need of a deep clean and refurbishment. There’s stains on the carpets, marks on the walls, bathrooms need modernising and the beds are small and hard.
The pub’s toilets were flooded and outdoor space and car park was littered.
So sad, as this could be much better .
- Graham (4/5): Terrible dirty smelly - Room was discusting dirty worn hot needs up grading best part cleaners are lovely very poor.
- Harry J (8/5): - Good hotel, tired in places but lovely amount of space
- DARREN (8/5): Great transport links... - Nice little hotel with great transport links to all of the Midlands, eventhough its bext to an extremely busy A road it was a silent nights sleep. The room was clean and in good condition, bathroom was clean, the only issue we had was that the tea spoons were dirty. Would stop here again.
- Anthony (10/5): - Lovely 2 night stay at a gorgeous location. Nice clean room, perfectly suitable for my short stay. Staff were lovely.
Thanks so much - no hesitations for next time. All the best, Anthony x
- Scott (6/5): - Staff were excellent & very friendly. Condition of hotel needs some attention.
- Sally (6/5): - On entrance to hotel the lobby area smelt like cats had releived themselves, the hotel areas looked dated and maintenance needed doing, our room looked like someone had tried to break into it! Gave the whole place bit of a sleazy feel to it, however, the staff were brilliant, we did ask for a quiet room but there was a party on with live music, which didnt help us trying to sleep! But the room we had although small was very clean, decorated with a modern feel, the bed was comfortable, there was only one window which was on a restricted open, on a hot night it was too much and only one fan, all in all a little overpriced for what we got, could have chosen premier inn accross the road and would have been better
- Mark (10/5): - Everything about my stay was perfect i couldnt fault anything at all.All the staff were very friendly and accomodating my room was excellent the food was amazing and well presented and it was ery good value for money..Would i stay again when im visiting family and friends absolutely i would and each time i make the journey from Torquay in Devon..Excellent 5 star.
- Nicholas (10/5): Good stay - Really helpful staff and place really suited my needs for the night travelled on my own used Tesco vouchers to stop one night amazing value would stop again
- Michael (8/5): - Visiting family
- brendan (10/5): - Property was clean and respectable
- Clare (10/5): Pleasant stay - Great value . Nice modern room . Plenty of free parking
- Rebecca (10/5): - It was a amazing hotel and the staff were very friendly and food was good
- Steven (10/5): Nice place - Really nice hotel
- Gareth (10/5): - Nice
- Jane (6/5): Overnight stop - Overnight stay
- Christina (10/5): Lovely cosy little find - Lovely cosy little pub with rooms. Exactly what we wanted after a long drive! It's easy to find, car park is free with plenty of spaces, check in was quick and the rooms were cosy. We enjoyed a drink in the cosy pub before bed and had a great night's sleep. Couldn't ask for more for the price 😀
- rochelle (10/5): - Lovely hotel and pub. Dining was great, service was lovely
The room was really large and accomated our whole family really comfortably.
- Charlotte (10/5): Fantastic family room - Excellent place, we had a family room, and was surprised when we arrived, that our room was like a little flat. 2 bedrooms, and little kitchen room (with cupboards and a sink) and a bathroom. We loved it, kids loved having their own room. We will definitely be stay there again.
- Neil (10/5): Excellent stay and I will certainly recommend - Good parking facilities. Good choice of food. Staff friendly and quick service. Excellent staff attitude in being helpful. Kitchen staff flexible in providing an early breakfast.
- Roger (10/5): - Hotel was easy to find and access, The Staff were all friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean. Drinking and dining areas were pleasant with a variety of seating options, service was pleasant and quick. Menu was/is interesting and varied and food was well cooked and presented. Good breakfasts too. We were there for two nights to attend a nearby event and can wholeheartedly recommend The Cocked Hat 😁
- Sumbul (6/5): - Bathroom shower was not working
- BRIAN (10/5): - close to shops
- suzanne (6/5): No return - Firstly I was warm and comfortable with clean bedding and towels.
The property overall needs a huge update and clean.
Dumped mattresses on the car park and broken glass give an idea to the area.
Breakfast was also very nice and staff friendly.
One toilet roll. One teabags and one coffee sachet, 1 sugar is laughable
I wouldn’t return.
- S (8/5): Clean and comfortable - Staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was very nice and plenty of choice, including veggie and vegan options.
The room itself was a bit "tired" looking and the same goes for the bathroom - both could do with a bit of a makeover. But the bed was large, clean and comfortable and i had everything i needed for two nights.
- Laura (10/5): - The staff were excellent and so friendly and helpful. Good value hotel and will return.
- Rachel (6/5): - The rooms are very tired looking. Bathroom the worst. Landing to my room smelt of cigarette smoke which went into my room. Reported this with the staff whom dealt with it by spraying air freshener
- Adrian (4/5): - Old tired hotel. Reception is in the Pub / restaurant next door.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Loud bouncing music until 11:30pm - Booked as it offered a family accommodation for 5. Unfortunately it was a Saturday night so there was a function downstairs. This meant loud music (with the accommodation literally bouncing) until 11:35pm which made it impossible for the children of 13/11/2 to sleep. We wasn’t aware of this beforehand as we would not have deemed it suitable for our family to sleep at any sort of reasonable hour.
Unfortunately the rooms were clearly not hoovered before our arrival. For example, there was significant amount of carrots chunks on the bedroom floor and behind the door in clear view.
Staff were fantastic in the restaurant during the morning breakfast however - very friendly and empathetic.
- David (8/5): - Everything was fine based on the very reasonable room rate and including excellent breakfast. However the communal areas of the hotel, including staircase needed a good clean and an hour's painting touch-up.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Definitely a budget stay! - Check in is at the pub, which is a bit of a pain carrying luggage and taking children there. I didnt see signs for check in being there, someone outside told me. Their was a function on, which we werent informed about. They were noisy and awake past midnight. The room.was okay. One remote for both tvs, which was annoying. The shower had mould all along the sillicone, it did look like someone had tried to clean it. There was a socket with no cover on, so just some wires coming out. My duvet cover had big holes along the seems. Overall the rooms was quite musty and had not been cleaned well. Also, their gas had stopped working, so only cokd breakfast available. We went to the Premier inn across the way which was cheaper for us as a family and we had hot food! The staff at the premier inn were so friendly, wish we had stayed there! If you're on a tight budget then this accommodation is fine.
- Gareth (6/5): Cheap for a reason - Room was pretty dated but clean, bath filled up when showering and did not drain properly.
The heating did not work very well and despite asking twice it remained very cold in the room
- Darryl (10/5): Weekend brake - It was great thanks
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Second time staying here while visiting family. Have booked another stay for next month too.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Shower was broken. Kettle was broken.
- Nicola (2/5): Needs a refurb - Really run down - needs a good refurb.
Carpet stained, paintwork chipped & dirty, bathroom floor stained.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good overnight stay - Nice hotel room, cosy and well kept.
- Gerald (6/5): - Room and beds very tidy.
Basin not clean and shower not working
- Paul (4/5): - I want to start by saying the staff are excellent. But the property is tired, very tired. Stained carpets, scuffed walls, poor lighting etc. The shower room was not heated and felt damp. Mold in the shower, dirty and damaged silicon seals. One double outlet under the table for TV, kettle, lamp and my laptop charger.
Very strange unpleasant smell in the hotel lobby area.
Check the location. The name "Binley Wood" and the photos don't show that you are a few metres from the very busy A46 flyover. Busy all night.
- Jean (10/5): - The staff make it as property is very tired now
- Nigel (8/5): - Good
- Natalie (10/5): - The price of the rooms were really a good price by using the app on my phone with discount. Fully recommend using this site for bookings A group of use had booked in for the weekend as we had been Judging horses at Onley Equestrian for The National championship concours D’Elegance. Staff and owner so welcoming very flexible moving sitting time for dinner. Kindly, even made use all bacon sandwiches to take with use in the morning as we had an early start. Food out standing, service such comfortable room, lovely sitting out in the sun to have drinks in the garden. Completely fully recommended this is my 2nd visit and I had recommended the society to go.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Great place for a family get together with out of town guests.
- Ian (8/5): Simple, clean and reasonable value - Perfectly good place to stay whilst on business in the area. Very close to plenty of local shops and services.
The public areas of the hotel are getting a bit worn and tired, but my room was clean and quiet - good bonus as near to dual carriageway.
The bathroom was in need of some maintenance as the dreaded black mould was appearing around the bath/shower, but overall OK.
Certainly a lot better than some of the other hotels in the area at this price point.
- Robin (6/5): - Excellent value for money but the property is tired and in need of a refurb and could be cleaner.
Food options at the pub next door are excellent and reasonably priced - breakfast especially
- Rita (8/5): - Very convenient and close to the highway.
- Rachel (6/5): - The property was ok. The shower didn’t work and the bathroom wasn’t clean. The food at the pub was good
- Michael (10/5): - Friendly staff, nice food. Cosy and clean room.
- Phillip (4/5): - Bedroom was ok but bathroom was dirty, the whole place needs a refurbish. Staff were friendly emough, but due to cleanliness and very noisy doors banging all night i would not stay again.
- Jim (6/5): Has seen better days - Entrance to the hotel area had unpleasant very strong air freshener smell. Beyond this, corridors had dirty carpets and stained ceilings. The bedroom itself was clean and reasonably comfortable, if not a bit sparse but the barhroom was not acceptable, the shower tray was broken and covered in black mould. The shower was very difficult to turn on and could only be turned off by wrapping a towel round the tap for extra grip. In the bar we were charged two different prices for identical rounds.
Breakfast was good, but wallpaper in the dining room was hanging off and curtains were torn and hanging from rails.
Two years ago this was a good hotel. Wouldnt stay again.
- Brad (10/5): - Beautiful little pub and property, delicious food in the pub, wonderful patio to enjoy eating at and sitting outdoors.
- Paula (10/5): - Great clean and tidy hotel
Love the cocked hat pub
Stayed over for a car show was close by
- Sandra (4/5): Terrible central heating and noise - Rooms don’t have individual heating. I checked in late afternoon and my room was ridiculously freezing and the staff just gave me an extra duvet. Rooms 9 and 10 are opposite the back door so it’s impossible to sleep as people go in and out to smoke late night and it’s difficult to close it so make a lot of noise.
- louise (4/5): In need of attention and cleaning - The room was grubby and dark, with stained carpet and poor lighting - I only managed around 3 hours sleep. The wash basin was blocked and the Shower showed evidence of a recent leak and was so filthy I decided not to use it at all. The food was of a good standard and the service in the pub was attentive, although there were a number of items off the menu at dinner. convenient for an overnight work trip but I'll go elsewhere next time.
- daniel (6/5): - The stay was nice, but the bed was really uncomfortable, I’ve got a bad back as of leaving today
- Daire (8/5): - Good location for our stay in Coventry. Breakfast was really good
- Laura (8/5): - A nice hotel attached to a pub/restaurant so good dining options easy to park with it’s own car park and close to a retail park for shops.
- Mrs Helen (4/5): Very disappointing. - The only good thing about our stay was clean bedding, linen and bathroom.
The room was in need of a very deep clean and redecorate. One skirting board was very dirty and plaster was coming off the wall by the exit door. The hostess tray had 2 teabags and 2 tubes of coffee with 4 sachets of milk!! Not overly generous, so after a 5hr journey, we had to choose - afternoon cuppa or morning tea.
The room was cold - the radiator didn’t work and the feed in pipe was lukewarm, so no hot water going into the radiator itself. There was a musty smell because the room wasn’t heated well.
The staff were polite but very indifferent. We didn’t get the impression that they were very happy in their job. It took an age for our drinks and meal to arrive. The meals were disappointing and not very hot. We’d hate to think how long we’d have to wait if it was busy. We ordered around 5:45pm. It was 7:15pm before we’d finished our main meal and one of us had a coffee.
Following our evening meal experience, we decided that we'd have breakfast elsewhere.
- GARY (8/5): - The room was very comfortable although another chair would have been useful, plus it was quiet, my wife loved the complimentary toiletries, the bed was so comfortable too. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the staff were very accommodating about substituting items. We had decided before arriving that we'd have our evening meal at the hotel too, unfortunately there were 2 instances that marred the enjoyment of the dinner. On the first night my chips were hard and undercooked, I told the waitress who was nonchalant saying that they had a lot of complaints about the chips on a regular basis, on the second evening, after our meals had been delivered to the table, the waitress asked if we wanted anything else, we asked for salt - to be told that they didn't have any as it was all being used in the restaurant, we rectified that by speaking to the gentleman at the bar. Also my friend's steak was cold, it was taken away to be 'sorted' when it came back it was the same steak, still with the sauce on the top which was now slightly congealed and although the steak was warmer on the surface, it was only marginally warmer on the inside.
Overall though we had a pleasant stay and we have already booked to return in March
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice, but no heating - Lovely room for our family of 5. Was more likened to a mini apartment, with two rooms and a kitchen.
Free parking, friendly check in, good location. My only gripe, is that there was no central heating. There was a mobile heater in one of the rooms, but not the other.
When asked if the heating could be put on, they reluctantly boosted the thermostat in the foyer, and said it would heat up the room and that the staff member would come back and check in 20min.
Suffice to say, the heating never came on and no one came back to check. Now, i'd rather the hotel were just upfront and said, we are not putting on the heating (for whatever reason) and give us another heater. With 3 children, one of which was 2yr, i felt was unacceptable.
- James (10/5): - Friendly staff, easy to find and park
- Sandra (10/5): Good last minute business trip - Stayed here last minute as I was teaching in the area, quick and easy process, food was good in the pub, good value for money in hotel and bar.
- Jamie (10/5): - The Cocked Hat is a gem. Fantastic staff, especially Liz who welcomed us uopn arrival and took great care of us while we were there every morning at breakfast. A true pleasure to stay here and is on my list for a revisit next trip. Thank you so much!
- Michelle (8/5): Adequate and clean stay - This is a cute hotel that looks like is getting some needed attention/work done. Our kids were upset the tv’s in our rooms weren’t working, but not enough to call about.
- Nicola (10/5): Excellent value for money - We travelled from Glasgow for a family party, only needed a family room for two nights.. was pleasantly surprised at the size of our accommodation, 2 rooms 3 beds, TVs in both rooms, big bathroom and a kitchen.
- James (10/5): - Very good value for money, massive family room with good facilities, friendly staff at the pub and overall a good experience.
- Rebecca (10/5): Wonderful - Lovely warm friendly helpful staff recommendations 💯
- Darryl (4/5): Grubby with cold shower - Cold shower Thursday morning. Roadworks until 03.30am. Grubby ‘family’ room
- Chris (4/5): Fire alarm with a dangerous reaction - Moderate room next to what sounded like a worksite all night.
Additionally, there was a fire alarm in the night (these things happen). However, there were no staff for a long long time to deal with it. No sense of urgency or focus on the potential danger. A serious safety risk that was extremely worrying
- Chris (8/5): - clean and comfortable room if on the small side , especially the bathroom
Staff were all friendly and helpful
- Jenny (8/5): - Great staff and food. Should have been warned about road closure, would have avoided 50 minute drive rather than 7 minute arrival. Rooms need updating, basic and shower over bath without adjustment not good for not avoiding washing hair which when your hair takes over an hour to dry is a pain. Carpet old and stained. Bed was comfortable.
- John (2/5): - Hit head hard on dormer ceiling when going to toilet in the night. Very noisy as at same level as overpass that ran all night ! Nowhere to relax except in pub. This is NOT a hotel, but pub with rooms in a different area. I have written to the CEO of Greene King but no response !!
- Lynne (10/5): Excellent - Excellent as usual, spotlessly clean, great staff .
- Peter (8/5): - The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the staff and the food was great, especially the breakfast, my only gripe is there was no drawers in the room to store clothes in, so living out of the suitcase.
- Graciela (10/5): - Friendly staff, very convenient to have pub and hotel, with own parking and surrounding grounds
- Leila (10/5): - Very comfortable stay, staff were very accommodating, highly recommend this place.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Could be better - Large room but for a three star hotel very Spartan. Bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Noisy next to the flyover. Not enough hooks anywhere.
Service very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast ok. Evening and lunch time menus unhealthy with all fried food.
Very corporate feel. Could be so much better.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Our room toilet seat fell off. There was no facial tissue but they didnt have any. There was no rubber bathmat but when we asked for one they brought us two.
- G. E. H. (10/5): - Once I found the hotel everything was fine.
A flyover is being constructed on the A46 right next to the Hotel. This totally obscures any indication of the hotel's location.
The sign at the entrance from the main road needs to display the name of the hotel more clearly as the entrance is easily missed.
Other than that the bedrooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed. The food is of good quality and the service is friendly and efficient.
- James (10/5): - I had a great nights stay, friendly and helpful staff, lovely room, and a nice atmosphere, will definitely stay again, and recommend it. Kind regards, james
- Ian (10/5): - Perfect for our stay room 26 is a family two bedrooms.
- S (10/5): Brilliant! - Brilliant stay. I stayed here for a weeks work. Very clean. Nothing was too much trouble from all the staff. Very friendly. Perfect stay. All round excellence.
- pawan (10/5): Great hotel - Excellent room size for a family if 5, Two TV’s and a kettle for tea/coffee.
The room was really warm when we came in but it did turn off during the night, However we did have a standing heater to use.
Good facilities & the bar & restaurant was really local to our room.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Far from ideal!? - This was not what I had hoped for after a long drive & a busy weekend. It was far from how the website portrayed.
In the very small room 2 out of 3 lamps didn’t have a bulb.
There were Not enough towels. I requested another hand towel but it didn’t arrive. I followed up & got two bath mats instead.
The toilet seat was broken.
The extractor fan in the bathroom was covered in dust.
Carpets were filthy.
The room was really hot, (conversely our friends room was freezing).
Shower strength was amazing though!
Breakfast was average. No fruit tea. No bananas & little other fruit on offer - an apple or an orange. Coffee was nice but not included so we had to pay extra. My daughter had to be somewhere before breakfast service started on the Sunday but no option to book without breakfast (for just her) & when I called ahead to enquire there was no option make up a box for her to have later.
No staff wearing masks so Didn’t feel covid safe.
Big queues and waits in the bar & restaurant. My dinner (grilled salmon) & sweet potato chips) was massively over cooked & my daughters lasagne came out with bread rather than the requested chips & was underwhelming. Other food in the group I was with each had something missing or was badly cooked.
We were here for a sporting event that my daughter was taking part & she needed good fuelling & rest. Being far from home I also needed good nights sleep, unfortunately none of which we got at the cocked hat.
- Jon (10/5): - Nice size room for family, friendly staff, nice breakfast.
- Mike (10/5): - Great for a family of 5. Two bedrooms one with double and one with three singles. Both had tvs
- Ian (8/5): Good overnight stop - Good size room which was cleaned and ready on arrival. Good number of plug points in room. Very close to A46 and current roadworks, but despite this, noise from the road was minimal. Pub/restaurant on site. Good experience would book again.
- Fiona (8/5): - I arrived very late so didn’t really see much other than my bedroom & the wonderful staff member who waited in her pyjamas to check me in & see that I was ok! Above & beyond!!! She needs a pay rise for such dedication to guests!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Extremely noisy! - Most noisy hotel i've ever stayed at. Massive roadworks going on outside the hotel all night, doors slamming all night from people going off to work all hours. Very unfriendly and unhelpful staff.
- Gavin (8/5): Very enjoyable stay....I shall return. - Warmly welcomed and very friendly staff. Really nice to be able to eat good food on site (not always possible with larger franchise hotels). Also nice to enjoy a pint (or two) with the food and simply walk to my room afterwards. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great service from the friendly staff. Great breakfasts too...sets you up nicely for the day ahead. Any quibbles? Just one observation. My room was a double but was fine for a single occupation. If Mrs D joins me next time...I would want a bigger room. Apart from that one observation (not a complaint)....no grumbles at all. I shall be back - I make numerous visits to Coventry.
- Simon (10/5): Great 3 Day Stay - From the moment I walked in I thought this was going to be just great. The staff wanted to help, was a little confusing as they were twins. The manager checked me in with not one drama. I thought it was great and a lot better than experiences over the last month at more expensive hotels booked on here.
- lynne (8/5): - The staff at the Cocked Hat were really friendly and helpful. Although it is situated in the middle of a roundabout with lots of roadworks going on, it was surprisingly quiet. The single room I had, although small, was adequately furnished, clean and comfortable. I was allocated one with a bath, as requested. Breakfast was very good and I also had an evening meal one night. My only criticism was that my room was next door to the function suite, with a 60th birthday party going on one of the nights and the noise made it impossible to get to sleep, even though it finished reasonably early at 11pm
- L (10/5): Great family room - Lovely clean Family room, with a good restaurant onsite - reasonably priced, and would happily return
- Richard (8/5): - Good hotel on a busy toad with roadworks when we stayed but it did not effect the stay
- Andy (10/5): Cocked Hat, Coventry - Nice room, good breakfast, good Location
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were really helpful ,even prepared food ready for my late check in, hotel part is a separate building to pub , don't here any noise at all, Location great ,straight on to A45 , free parking big onsite car park
