Guest Reviews
- Caroline (9/5): Pegasus treehouse - It was our second visit and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Lots of wood to make a fire cause it was cold. Dinner and breakfast was very good.
- Shirley (10/5): Enchanting accommodation, wonderful food and warm hosts - I stayed for two weeks as a writing retreat. It was the perfect retreat with enchanting treehouses and wonderful food. Even better were my lovely hosts. Thank you Sharon Gary and Janine!
- Sibusiso (10/5): -
- Nicole Elizabeth (10/5): Unique, comfortable and well worth the visit! - Such a unique place! I have been wanting to stay at this accommodation for ages and it did not disappoint!
- Tracey (10/5): Magical - Everything was amazing… breakfast and dinner was delicious. All the staff so super friendly😊
- Janine (5/5): Location was stunning stay was average reception could have been more pleasant and friendlier - Breakfast was average
Locationgoid Accommodation could have been better made more cosy maybe better lighting in the cottage better maintenance to the cottage itself.
- Ane (2/5): Awful, dirty and extremely disappointing experience . - Many years ago I stayed here by myself and this time I booked 1 night for me and my partners birthday but very disappointed 😞 . The unique woodcraft was beautiful and the views and really enjoyed the quietness of the surroundings. The butternut soup served with fresh bread was nice and also the fact that the owner introduced himself during dinner. They dont have many treehouses on site which makes it unique. Sleeping in a treehouse is a childlike dream to be able to sleep in a treehouse but this experience was terrible. It has been neglected which is a pity because they've got such an unique property. This was a birthday present to my boyfriend and so disappointed that I paid R2900 to get such an awful experience. Maintaining this treehouse hasn't been done. The heater was cracked, crack in the bathroom wall, the deck and chairs were dirty. The geyser were switched off so we had to wait to get hot water and the treehouse was very dirty. Also if you pay R2900 at least have some proper plunger coffee in the rooms. Its the little things and attention to detail that make guests feel at home. Our
treehouse was called the romantic getaway. I would give it some ambience for example:
- proper maintenance needs to be done. Varnish the deck.
- put other furniture and clean furniture on the deck.
- maybe fairylights in the tree on the deck for some atmosphere.
- stronger hammock on the deck
- plunger coffee would be ideal
- maybe put nice burgundy/ white towels on the bed with chocolate or a welcome note.
This is just my thoughts. We skipped breakfast because dinner was very bland. Soup was nice but chicken was dry and vegetables were very bland. So I definitely would not recommend this place at all.
- Karel (10/5): Awesome 👌 - Amazing unique experience To understand the unique experience, you need to stay for a few day's, maybe package options
- travis (8/5): -
- Alexander (9/5): -
- Eunice Petronella Enid (6/5): - Being old years eve I feel that the host could have made a more festive effort There were no twin beds, only 1 chair in the lounge, no ice in the fridge
- Alexander (9/5): -
- Ronél (7/5): -
- Andrew (9/5): - The Treehouse, food and great service
- Sgumedep (10/5): I like the place is quiet and good to be there - Privacy and the environment was perfect. Nature was superb
- Johan (8/5): Unique experience but overpriced. Accommodation is "Work of Art" but somewhat impractical. - 4 adults and 3 year old child - stayed in the Planequarium Treehouse.
1. Fantasy come true for 3-year old!
2. Exquisite woodwork and attention to detail.
3. Romantic spa-bath and double shower
4. Good dinner (lasagne) and breakfast included
5. Cosy fireplace with more than adequate wood - comfortable couches downstairs. Planequarium treehouse has a lovely lounge downstairs with fireplace and couches. The kitchenette, kettle, cups etc is upstairs. Note that you need both hands to get up and down the tiny winding (but exquisitely made) staircase. A small kitchenette downstairs with a basin, kettle and coffee facilities will make the world of a difference!
R6 495 for one night - perhaps 50% over a market related price?
- Annette (9/5): Highly recommendable for anyone looking for homecooked food and a unique experience! - The facilities are so unique and comfortable. The food was very tasty and like “mom’s cooking”. I would have liked hanging space for cloths and maybe a bench to put your suitcase on.
- Fabienne (7/5): A fun treehouse adventure, great for memory making. - It’s a great halfway point to a beach holiday and a lovely starting point for some Midlands exploring. The venue is more like camping, the stairs are narrow, the rooms multipurpose, with very little privacy. No cooking amenities (which I was grateful for - who wants to cook on holiday!) There are a variety of creepy crawlies, and noises on the roof at night; so if that’s not your scene, don’t go! We loved every minute, the staff and hosts were great. The food plentiful, fresh and like your mom makes. Some of the nature is a bit scary, I’m not a fan of spiders. But hey, these are treehouses!
- Rick (8/5): Mooie accommodatie, vriendelijk personeel - Mooie accommodatie, zeer gedetailleerd houtsnijwerk. Vriendelijk personeel, prima eten. De boomhut zou wat onderhoud kunnen gebruiken.
- Stefanie (5/5): - Das Haus ist originell. Die Umgebung. Man muss weit fahren, um im die Drakensberge zu kommen.
- Nicky (8/5): Unique and great attention to detail! - The host was friendly and food was phenomenal.
It was a unique experience and we loved every moment! Nothing
- korff (10/5): - The place and nice food Everything was fine
- Devadasa (8/5): - Accommodation was excellent. Meals were sub par. Can be improved for a better overall experience.
- Smith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gail (7/5): Good -
- Yolanda (1/5): Worse stay ever! - Location To start our horrible experiences we booked a treehouse with 2 bedrooms as my three kids normally stay together in one room. We requested for an additional mattress which we got told straight away can’t be done even though I offered to pay extra. Got told there is no space. Not even did they assist us by converting the two single beds into a king size bed by simply putting a king size fitted sheet over. Then once we arrived there and moved the 2 beds together there was more than enough space for an extra mattress for my small boy??? We also got told that they actually charge per head and we must pay in for kids as I made a mistake on bookings.com with kids ages when booking which I was happy to do so as she mentioned they do dinner and breakfast thus charge per person which is understandable. But let me re assure you that if I had the choice I would rather not eat dinner there! Worse lasagne and veg we have ever had in our lives! We ran late due to an accident fatality on the N3 which caused us to wait on the scene for more than 2 hours which we did inform them about. We Arrived there at 8:30 and we got informed dinner was done by 7pm already but they will make an exception for us due to the traffic. We got greeted by the team who all seemed to be rushing us through dinner and we have had a very unwelcome feeling because after the horrible dinner which was nothing as described as on their website, we got told that they already closed at 9pm and we thus can’t come back after settling kids for a drink at the bar. We also never received a confirmation message or call or instruction from when we booked despite leaving my personal cell number numerous times on bookings.com for them to hopefully contact me as we felt they left us completely in the dark as to directions, times and all their many many many rules etc. Yes, it was the owners birthday but then why book guest at all if you going to be desperate to get rid of them every second?
- Jane (7/5): Good -
- Lisa (8/5): Very good - Lovely
- Sithembile (8/5): Great stay - The food was great and the staff was great
- Joswalk (2/5): Sick a more avenue - Nothing Location & state of rooms provided were not near main property. No wi-fi except at main property. Although it stated guests were welcome to sit in lounge after dinner, we were made uncomfortable after 7.30/8.00 pm & expected to return to cottage by owner's husband. We had to drive the distance between main property & cottages through a gate as roadway to house was unlit & corrugated.
- Valerie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (6/5): Pleasant -
- Magdeli (10/5): Like a fairy tale - I loved the attention to detail this place had. All the woodwork was something to admire! Felt like a fairy tale. The dinner was very hearty and the staff extremely friendly. I will definitely cone back Nothing
- Magdeli (10/5): Like a fairy tale - I loved the attention to detail this place had. All the woodwork was something to admire! Felt like a fairy tale. The dinner was very hearty and the staff extremely friendly. I will definitely come back Nothing
- Bass (7/5): Good -
- Julian (8/5): Very good -
- Prof (7/5): Lovely adventure! - Such cute accommodation, attention to detail in its building! The dinner and breakfast were out of this world - great home-cooked food and they accommodated all food like and dislikes. Lovely breakfast room and bar area with a nice pool table. Beautiful area and setting. We have stayed here before twice but the cleaniness and comfort of the tree house needs some attention.
- Carina (10/5): Exceptional - Delicious food, friendly staff, clean, well located.
We enjoyed our stay. Thanks!
- Hannah (8/5): A magical, welcoming place - perfect for a stay with a difference - Treehouses are quirky and enchanting. The location and the view is brilliant; right at the top of the Meander. Staff are welcoming and hospitable, food very good with excellent meal service. Lots of pets on property and a real ‘home from home’ appeal in terms of how welcoming and relaxing it all is. Treehouses could do with a small amount of maintenance in places… nothing major, just a chimney needed fixing to stop smoke rising into the bedrooms and thatch ceilings re varnished to keep debris from falling into bathtubs etc.
- Lane (8/5): Good place to stay in the Natal midlands - Food was excellent and the staff were very accommodating. We stayed in an older cottage that needed some updating but it was comfortable. There was WiFi in the main building but not in our cottage.
- Yolandi (4/5): Disappointing - I have stayed there 10years ago, and everything looks the same. They must upgrade the rooms.

- Megan (10/5): Wonderfully peaceful and adventurous place to stay. - Stunning property Ina natural setting. Perfect escape into nature. The hosts are friendly and welcoming. Nothing
- Hayden (6/5): Pleasant -
- Nelly (8/5): Very good -
- Chris (8/5): Great owners/staff attention and exceptional cuisine. Thanks for an enjoyable overnight stay. - Friendly staff, EXCELLENT dinner and breakfast. Rural and peaceful. Tree house facilities surprisingly luxurious and classy.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Megan (3/5): Very disappointing - The woodwork and detail is incredible. The fact that someone put in the time and love and creativity to create these treehouses is incredible My parents had been to stay here twice in the past and thoroughly enjoyed their stay, so we surprised them and took them away to the treehouses again with our children, aged 13 and 11. We were made to feel very unwelcome by the owner as he picked on our children from the day we arrived. The communal area is open until 9pm, however lights were being turned off around us from 7:45pm and 8pm on the two nights stay. The food was tasty, but nothing spectacular. The gardens are not maintained and the lawn is not even mowed. The double beds are extremely soft and uncomfortable. The blinds in the rooms are broken and don’t function. For just under R17000 for our two night stay, this place is not value for money at all. We certainly won’t be back and we don’t recommend going with children.
- Jako (10/5): Accommodation treehouses - Kids loved the hammock, the whole treehouse effect and the nature environment. Every thing made from wood with excellent workmanship. The rain made the steps wet going to the twin showers. Might need a roof over it. One washbasin plug was stuck, we did have 2nd basin to use.
- Petricia (10/5): Amazing experience - The Fantasy Treehouse was amazing! What an experience! Dinner and breakfast were delicious and the Spa in the Sky has the best view Nothing
- Watson (7/5): Good - The tree houses are unique. Menu does not cater for children. The cottages fall outside the fenced area of the restaurant and tree houses. Felt a bit vulnerable.
- Goncalves (10/5): Exceptional -
- Konigkramer (4/5): Generally lack luster, tree houses over priced. - Food was good. Extreme traffic noise. No fan in the room. No bed side lights.
- Chantel (10/5): Amazing - It was beautiful, different and an amazing experience, owners super friendly, we had a lovely stay - food was also delicious Absolutely nothing!!
Everything was amazin
- Starvo (9/5): Superb -
- Stacy (7/5): Sycamore Treehouse stay, family of 4 - Location and accommodation was fun and unique. Our two kids had a great time. Lovely setting and fun tree houses.
Stairs inside were very steep so we used outside stairs which got wet and a little slippery when it rained. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay. Food was nice enough and service was great. It's a fun family stay, especially with smaller kids
- Jaen (9/5): Superb -
- Bertus (10/5): Every unit is a unique experience. - Beautiful accommodation. Great views of the area. Everything works inside the house. The shower is the best I’ve ever seen as great care was taken to build a floor that truly is a non slip surface. Unit is easily accessible by any vehicle. Free WiFi only available if you’re inside the main building.
- Alan (10/5): A wonderful White experience - Quaint accommodation and great food. Staff and management went the extra mile during extreme weather conditions (heavy snow) resulting in all sorts of challenges. Nothing!
- Nunes (8/5): Very good -
- Samantha (4/5): A let down. - The “tree houses” are quirky and not your run of the mill accommodation. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Gary, our host, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and directed us to a few great spots for sightseeing etc. My partner and I were terribly disappointed upon arrival, and even more so, as we’ve been wanting to visit for several years. The tree houses are tired and in desperate need of a revamp. The dust inside was ridiculous, and as a guest, it was unpleasant to have to wipe down surfaces after a 6 hour drive. Fantasy Tree house is cramped and the lounge area is not inviting at all. Although the mountains are visible off in the distance, the highway is an eyesore, and maybe planting some trees to obscure that view would be a good idea. I would’ve preferred the feeling of being in a forest than seeing trucks all day/night.
The treehouses are quirky and unique, and with a little TLC and attention, I feel it could be outstanding.
The food was mediocre at best, and we opted to skip breakfast on our last morning after the disappointing breakfast the previous morning.
- Kwanele (7/5): My stay was good, got to rest but the place could use some TVs especially for people traveling alone - Food was nice but the place could use some TV for entertainment Not having TV
- You (9/5): Superb - Friendly service
Host was helpful
Room are superb
There's something magical about Pegasus
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Llana (9/5): Superb -
- Bruce (8/5): Very good -
- Somaya (7/5): Good - Very friendly and accomodating staff, especially Gary. Just off the freeway. The fireplace. Great experience. Would have been nice if there was a TV in the room.
- Chris (10/5): Superb accommodation and staff. - The staff were very accommodating, and maintained an excellent and commendable attitude of warmth.
- Foster (10/5): Exceptional -
- Estavan (10/5): It was an awesome experience. The staff were great, will definitely go back. -
- Renee (8/5): Very good - Gary and Janine went out of their way to accommodate us; so friendly and helpful. The Fantasy Treehouse is something to experience. Amazing carpentry to be seen in the treehouse and the dining room. . The setting is tranquil and allows you to really relax and unwind. Making coffee in the treehouse was a challenge, but we managed.
- Paula (7/5): Good - The quietness of the place
Easy access
Beautiful views Nothing to dislike
- Kirsty (9/5): Superb -
- Lorraine (8/5): Romantic getaway in a breathtaking treehouse! - The food was fantastic!
The authenticity of the treehouse and design thereof was breathtaking.
The hot tub was something to remember! The bed was a bit uncomfortable.
The flies in the room were a bit irritating and they are immune to the doom provided.
The noises from the sinc roof at night were loud.
- Rendani (1/5): Bad - The cottages are badly maintained. Not worth the plus 3000 per night. We initially booked 2 nights but we stayed 1 night only. We had to book another place for the remainder of our weekend.
- Philip (10/5): A wonderful experience - All exilent All was supurb
- Gerald (10/5): Gary and Sharon were the most hospitable hosts one could ask for. Home cooked breakfast & Dinner around the most ama - The most quirky amazing experience-living in a treehouse-fireplace and all!
Incomparable to anything we’ve experienced. Nothing
- Willem (7/5): Good -
- Jenny (10/5): My stay was very nice - the food was excellent. the stay was also very good would like to have WIFI in the room
- Elize (9/5): Will go visit again - It is beautiful area , close to the highway and staff went above and beyond We booked last minute and arrived very late so we could not stay in the treehouses but rather in the cottage due to lack of availability on booking.com
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (8/5): Nice and cosy place with space for kids. - Lots of free space for my little one to roam around. Super nice dogs he could play with and very supportive staff.
- Lennon (7/5): Good -
- Claudia (10/5): Wonderful relaxed evening. - Host and staff were warm and friendly. Stunning dinning area served divine food.
- Caroldene (10/5): Very well situated, calm, quiet venue to stay at, with so much character and most delicious food! - The food was exceptional, with my dietary requirements well catered for. Any interactions with the hosts was warm and makes one feel very welcome. Sharon went over and beyond her duties ensuring some items I left behind was provided to me safely - I really am most grateful!
- Leigh (9/5): Superb - Was a wonderful relaxing trio, treehousewas great and spa bath made it awesome
- Dustin (3/5): Not value for money, overpriced. - Bedrooms were tiny, and mattress was old and uncomfortable.
Stairs was very dangerous and impractical.
Bathroom outside was uncomfortable having to walk between house and bathroom, not very private.
No drinking water was left in the rooms. We had no milk left in the tea and coffee station.
- Suheena (6/5): An interesting adventure - Very quaint but needs some upkeep. Limited activities on the grounds. An adventure. You feel like you are in a lord of the rings movie. Woodcarving is pretty I would advise you book to stay and enjoy the Midlands Meander during the day as the grounds themselves are standard. We didn’t stay the last night at left early. The cottages are very basic. The food is not bad but we expected a higher standard for the price paid. It’s very dark at nights/
- Ram (8/5): All in all it was great. Loved our stay. - Dinner and Breakfast was delicious. Host and Staff very friendly and accommodating. Cottage needs a little upgrading.
- Daniel (9/5): Three house art - Tree houses are a art of work. Worth the visit. Garry and chad are very friendly. Great people to have a conversation with.
- Mimi (10/5): We had a warm welcoming, food was delicious, we enjoyed the tranquil, convenient closer to N3 - Fascinating None
- Cheryl (1/5): Bad -
- Kok (10/5): Lovely enchanting ambiance - Lovely enchanting ambiance. Each tree house is unique and beautiful. We previously stayed in planequarium, this time in fantasy. Magical experience, and the kids loved it.
Breakfast and dinner was delicious, and there was ample food to enjoy.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. The pictures on booking.com don't really do the place justice, and I'd thoroughly recommend it. Incredible rooms, super friendly team, great food, and a great location
