The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and made sure we had a comfortable stay. Our room was clean, tidy, and equipped with heating, which made it nice and cozy. The beds were very comfortable, and we slept well. We also had dinner in the pub, and the food was delicious. The breakfast was just as good and a great start to the day. And a special mention for the rhubarb crumble — we are still thinking about it! It might be reason enough to come back. Highly recommended, and we would gladly stay here again. Die Eigentümer waren extrem freundlich und sehr hilfsbereit. W-Lan war am Zimmer nicht verfügbar. Das Frühstück hätte etwas besser ausfallen können (nur Cornflakes und Toast mit Marmelade war ok, aber nichts besonderes). Die Heizung hat nicht von Anfang an funktioniert, wurde aber vom Eigentümer repariert.

Er was een snelle reactie toen we hier aankwamen en niemand aanwezig was, na het telefoonnr te bellen wat vermeldt stond op de deur, was er binnen enkele ogenblikken iemand. We hadden de kamer met stapelbedden, de matrassen hiervan zijn aan vervanging toe.

The pub is situated in the middle of the Weardale valley and perfect as a base to explore this beautiful part of our country

The accommodation was as described and perfect for our needs. Evening meal was lovely - proper home cooked meals and the pub serves a range of local beers as well as everything you would expect. To be honest - I really can't think of anything I disliked.

I didn't get the room I booked - the Old Coach House. The room we were given was very small and we could hear every word of the people in the next room who were having a normal conversation

• Andrii (8/5): - I recently stayed at the "Old Coach House at The Golden Lion" while travelling through the UK after completing the NC500 on my motorcycle, and it was a pleasurable experience. The location is simply spectacular, with a breathtaking ride via England's highest paved road leading to a small, quiet town. The owners can provide a barn to securely store motorcycles and bicycles overnight—a huge plus for bikers in the UK. Just ask them, and they'll gladly assist. The hospitality was beyond exceptional. Despite making a late-night reservation, the owners stayed up to welcome me warmly. The pub was already closed, but they waited, greeted me with a round of ale (which I could even take to my room), and engaged in friendly small talk, sharing insights about the area. Breakfast was simple yet honest, and the pub itself offered a great variety of food alongside excellent ale and beer. The cosy atmosphere and the owners' genuine care significantly contributed to my positive experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to every biker out there. A perfect blend of beautiful location, secure facilities for your bike, and heartwarming hospitality! If I had to pinpoint something lacking, then only the breakfast. It was a simple, honest cereal-eggs-toast-coffee breakfast for 10 GBP/person. Nothing to complain about, just the weakest point of the overall experience. If you don't like aforementioned option, there's a wholesome café in 1 minute walk from the hotel.

The bed was comfortable, bathroom was very clean and had a lovely touch screen mirror and waterfall shower .There was a TV and tea coffee making facilities. The couple who run the pub and accommodation were very friendly and welcoming. The outside of the building was looking very tired and in need of some Tlc which made the inside of the room so surprising. They had obviously been recently renovated to a high standard.

The owners greeted us warmly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We had our supper there shortly after arriving and thoroughly enjoyed it (delicious home-made chips). The room was squeaky clean, the sheets fresh and nicely laundered and the bed was super comfortable (king size bedroom). Breakfast was absolutely first class, with perfectly poached eggs. This place is truly exceptional value for money and we will return. The location is a great base for lots of lovely off-road walks and it was great to be able to take our dogs on a bridleway directly from the car park! Nothing.

• Paul (10/5): Great stay with hosts Tyrone and Jennifer who looked after us perfectly and even sorted out returning an item I’d left i - We stayed for two nights whist riding the area. After a warm welcome we were shown to our accommodation which was perfect for our needs. There’s plenty of parking and we got to park right outside our room. We ate in the pub both nights and all enjoyed our meals, breakfast was lovely too. It’s one of those places that you instantly feel comfortable. Highly recommended.
• Sue (8/5): 100% recommend. Pretty 19th century inn, great food, comfortable accommodation, welcoming owners - We were warmly welcomed by the friendly owner of this pretty 18th century pub. Our bedrooms were comfortable and spacious, with plenty of charging points, generous bath sheets, an excellent power shower and very comfortable beds. The pub itself was traditional, historic and cosy and included a pool table and dart boards. Bring your own darts! The pub offers secure cycle storage. Our evening meal was home cooked and delicious- chosen from a varied menu of home cooked dishes including vegetarian options, offering a welcome contrast to the standard pub meals we’d had over the previous 5 days. Breakfast options included the Full English as well as smaller options which were all well prepared. We’d been cycling the Hadrian Cycle Way and Sea to Sea and this was our last stop, with a day’s cycle ahead. The Golden Lion was the discovery of the week. I recommend it 100% as a beautiful and historical pub, with very comfortable accommodation. We were impressed by the commitment and kindness of the owners who really want to ensure their clients enjoyed their stay. We had such a lovely time we’ll organise the next time we cycle the Sea to Sea so we can stay here again. Nothing

• Gary (9/5): A little gem in Upper Weardale, a great place to stay! - We used this accommodation whilst hiking locally on the Weardale Way footpath between Killhope and Stanhope via Rookhope Moor, which took us two days. It saved us time travelling into and out of the area and was well worth the money. The food we were served was very tasty and Tyrone and his team were very welcoming. We understand the location and accommodation is very popular with tourists (both bikers and hikers) so we were not disappointed. Make the effort to go and visit Upper Weardale as you will not be disappointed. It ticked all the boxes for us so I don't think anything was overlooked. After all, the scenery thereabouts sells the area and the Old Coach House and Golden Lion PH provide a secure means of accommodation and a good place to eat!

• Joe (10/5): Amazing little find. - This place was amazing, the owners were so friendly, we had a warm welcome and they made sure we was happy at every turn, the food in the Adjacent pub was fantastic value, we had a steak that was very tasty and tried the curry's that were on offer, the breakfast was delicious and plentyful, the room was modern, clean and the bed extremely comfortable, and all thats before you venture out and enjoy the views, just a short drive away your in the middle of the Pennies and can drive for miles without even seeing another car, can not recommend this place enough. Also a Co.op in the village for all your bedroom snacks.

• Kathryn (10/5): Excellent service & vslue for money. - A nice local pub with good accommodation, excellent food & staff were extremely welcoming & friendly. They have a delicious, refreshing blackberry cider in tap. Nothing to dislike

• Dean (8/5): Great room in lovely village - The room was very pretty and a good size. Great shower. The village is very pretty too. The pub serves good food. Staff friendly. Found spider in the bed, couldn't get heating to work so room was very cold in the evening and morning.
