Guest Reviews
- Brandon (10/5): - I was surprised with how far out of the way the cabin was, but it was the most comfortable vacation spot I've ever stayed in.
- Yann (10/5): - Amazing isolated cabin. Would go back afain.
Hostess is responsive, thoughtful, friendly and kind.
- Lucille (10/5): - This was an extremely beautiful place with great amenities and ambience.
- Luis (10/5): - If you need to get away, relax, and enjoy nature this is the perfect spot. Hosts are absolutely great.
Highly recommend it.
- Chad (10/5): - The Owl’s Perch was a beautiful and cozy place to stay—secluded near Robbinsville and the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. We loved listening to the nearby creek and the soothing sounds of the forest. It’s the perfect peaceful rest stop for hikers exploring nearby trails! The owners provided everything we needed and even welcomed us with helpful information about local sights and hikes.
In one day, we visited:
• Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest
• Huckleberry Bald
• Hooper Bald
• Bald River Falls
• Baby Falls
• Lake Santeetlah
Thanks to their thoughtfully prepared info sheet, placed right on our bed! We’ll definitely be back!
- Debra (10/5): - So worth the drive to get there. Heaven on earth is the best i can describe it.
- Barbara (10/5): - We were in desperate need of quiet time and nature without the tent. The Owl’s Perch was an amazing place to unwind and to rediscover and appreciate God’s amazing creation. The owners have taken great care to enhance its natural beauty with a little good humor thrown in.
- Jonathan (10/5): - Very fun! The Owls Perch space is efficient and compact but also lovely. Very stylish with lots of owls! The creekside location is amazing—loved sleeping to creek noises. The drive there is quite an adventure—the road keeps getting smaller and rougher, but still drivable. You don’t need 4 wheel drive, but the 5” clearance is definitely advised.
The real perk, though, is Alice and Doug’s knowledge of the local attractions. So many good ideas of things to do in the area. I had originally planned to just hang out in the cabin for a day (which would have been relaxing and fun), but I was totally tempted by a suggested loop drive through local attractions.
I am definitely planning a return visit. So much to do in the area. And this is my ideal for a secluded yet (more than) comfortable getaway.
- David (10/5): - Heaven
- Amy (10/5): - Beautiful property and friendly host. We stayed 2 nights, met the host at check in and never saw her again. Although the house is attached to cabin, you cant see it from the room. Gave us much needed privacy and seclusion
- David (10/5): - Everything was wonderful! Accurate description, completely met our expectations, and was truly an awesome little get away. We would recommend staying here (the 5 inch clearance thing is the real deal though) and would definitely stay here again!
- Thomas (10/5): - Out of the way and off the grid property. The road in and out is single lane, be prepared to back out if need be. Lots of twists and turns, if you’re one to get car sick be prepared. But once there it’s a quaint, quiet studio like place with nice little deck to sit on and enjoy the tranquility of the area. No cell, no web service. Just you and your partner, or as it was me and my girl.
- Leeane (10/5): - It was very rural, no close neighbors with an amazing roaring creek right infront of the deck
- Duane (10/5): Lovely! - Absolutely beautiful and serene.
- Jared (10/5): A++ - Everything was perfect and you can't meet a nicer person than Alice. The description was accurate and the directions to the cabin were great. A great place to go if you want to get away from everything.
- lisa (10/5): - Beautiful setting..comfortable, didn’t have to ask for a thing, even cooked out on the grill, cool temperature, even in the July heat..had the windows open, listening to the babbling brook all night… definitely met my expectations and more❤️
- Suanne (10/5): - Listen to the river tumbling along while laying in Bed. Convienient kitchen and a cute small bathroom. Live the place crazy drive in. Worth the trip.
- Dennis (10/5): - If you're looking for an adventure off the beaten path this is it. Wonderful hosts!
- Kevin (10/5): Wonderful place to stay. - Wonderful place and a wonderful host. I highly recommend! Very serene and peaceful, with only the sound of the creek flowing over the rocks. Way off the beaten path, a real mountain retreat.
- Gary (10/5): - Beautiful mountain stream, secluded even though the hosts were close by.
- Jennifer (10/5): Great little retreat - Great little place! Super clean with a river view!
- April (10/5): - We went to the Owls Perch for our anniversary trip. We will definitely be going back! It is the best place to unwind and unplug from the world. We enjoyed the ride into town each morning, the mountain views are amazing! Alice was the sweetest host! Everything was perfect!
- Becky (10/5): - This property is a hidden gem! It was so peaceful to be in the woods with the creek running below. The balcony & deck were wonderful to enjoy our surroundings.
- Billie (10/5): - If you are looking for a safe, clean, quiet spot to just relax and disconnect from the world- this is it! It is small but comfy and has everything you need except for internet-so unwind, walk, fish, just enjoy the sounds and sights of nature. The owners are so very kind and attentive. I will be back!
- Ronnie (10/5): - A quiet, peaceful stay in the beautiful Nantahala Mountains. If you want quiet and remoteness this is the place to be surrounded by forests with a mountain stream below the deck. The hosts are gracious and accommodating. My wife and I had a wonderful stay and look forward to our next trip.
- Gayle (10/5): - Our stay was incredible. We were able to relax and unwind from a hectic week. We are looking forward to a return trip
- Pritchard (8/5): - We loved cooking all meals on the grill, the trout stream that runs through the property and the beauty of the place! Be prepared for biting bugs if they are attracted to you! I did come home with my arms and legs covered in them. I used bug repellent but after taking a shower and going back out on the porch… they got me good. Overall this is a gem!
- Bobby (10/5): Weekend Getaway - It is an amazing place to stay. The details set the cabin apart. In the middle of the woods BUT a good time to spend time in the peace and quiet.
- Dave (10/5): - Owl's Perch is a perfect getaway for singles or couples seeking solitude from civilization. It's located in a remote (but populated) area. The place is small, but has every necessary creature comfort. We especially enjoyed the cleanliness of our little home. We spent much of our time on the deck enjoying the stream. Many natural areas are easy drives away. Your hosts are on site, attentive but never intrusive. Ours was a memorable stay.

- Bev (10/5): - The creek was gorgeous! Loved going to sleep with the sound. The amount of hummingbirds was sooo fascinating to watch. Great accommodation and fantastic hosts! Highly recommend!😊😊
- Paylin (10/5): - There was not a single thing I did not like. This is a peace of heaven, and I truly admire not only the beauty of the place, but also the wonderful hosts! The perfect place for peace, and nature. Highly recommend!❤️
- Tom (10/5): - The place was beautiful
- Victor L. (10/5): - Out in county nice and quiet
- Todd (10/5): - My husband and I stayed at Owl's Perch 3 nights ago and was delighted with stay! Loved the cabin, so cute, decorated so nicely, so CLEAN! Loved the setting! Gorgeous view from the deck. We had our mountain bikes with us and rode on the mountain roads near the cabin and LOVED it! So much fun! We also very much appreciated Alice, a superhost!, giving us great tips on where to go and what to do! She went above and beyond as a host! Thank you Alice! The brochures were very helpful!! We will be back!
- Kathryn (10/5): Escape from Everyday - Absolutely beautiful getaway from the stressors of life. No cell or data service made us finally put work aside and just be together.
The hosts, Alice and Doug, were very friendly but gave us privacy to unwind. We spent almost every waking minute on the deck 💜 and the cabin had everything we could need.
The ride in on our touring motorcycles was part of the fun but I wouldn't recommend taking a low slung bike on the "road" if you like your exhaust.
A perfect place to relax and unwind. Thank you!
- Alexander (10/5): - The hosts, Alice, Doug, and Skippy welcomed me and have a beautiful room / perch. If you're looking for something which can help to ground you somewhat from your busy life, this is the place to go.
- Jeremy (10/5): - Very peacefully and we loved the river view.
Very clean.
Can’t wait to go back!
- vicki (10/5): Loved it! - Beautiful little cabin in the woods on the edge of a creek/river. Amazing views and the sounds of the water rushing were magnificent. Only 2 things could have made our stay better, the ability to stay longer, and better pillows.
- Jerry (10/5): Relaxing get away - Excellent get away, very relaxing atmosphere with running stream right by the cabin. Very clean and the hosts were very helpful and friendly. The gravel road to it is a bit rough but if you go slowly not to bad, and the cabin is well worth the drive. We enjoyed our time there very much.
- Michael (10/5): - Adorable little cabin offered everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I loved the sound and view of the water from the deck.
- PETER (10/5): Outstanding - This place is a little gem tucked away in the woods. Come here for a warm welcome and a very comfortable little cabin, surrounded by complete peace and quiet. Alice provided great local recommendations including the Cherohala Skyway which was fantastic.
- warren (10/5): - Perfect spot for a cozy cabin experience if willing to plan a bit for food and driving adventures. But host is most helpful giving necessary information ahead of time, and random kitchen amenities are a huge plus. Gorgeous atmosphere and details add the personal touch not encountered often.
- Xiangru (10/5): - The wonderful view of the creek near the house!
- Spence M (8/5): - It's a bit of a drive on a one lane gravel drive but you are rewarded by a unique and comfortable cabin overlooking a pristine mountain stream. Our hosts were friendly and attentive while allowing us our privacy. Convenient to Joyce Kilmer Forest and the Cherohala Skyway.
- Diane (10/5): - We loved staying there. We were on a 6 day trip and this was our favorite place we stayed. Very clean, so peaceful, and the hostess was very sweet and was very helpful. My husband and I would defiantly stay there again if we are in the area.
- selena (10/5): - Very Unique Experience, Off the Beaten Path. Very Quaint little Cabin feel to Enjoy!!
- Arthur (10/5): - It was like a couple retreat. The quietness, and peaceful. It was like getting a rest from the busyness of everyday hassle. My wife and I loved our stay.
- Anthony (10/5): Awesome! - Very nice cozy place. Excellent service. Awesome breakfast. View was amazing. Could not have asked for a better place.
- Jan (10/5): - Loved the relaxing atmosphere and falling asleep to the sound of the stream under my deck.
- Brian (10/5): - Beautiful view of creek. Very cozy and clean. Very friendly hosts! Also lots of hummingbirds flying around. I suggest opening the windows at night and letting the creek lull you to sleep.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful! Spotlessly clean! Great hosts. So peaceful and relaxing!
- Melissa (10/5): Making memories - Oh what an awesome place this is, the detailed touches were everywhere you looked. Could have sat on balcony and listen to rolling creek for days. The owners sent us great directions to follow and had no problem. Coffee cake waiting for us in room, wildflowers on balcony, like I say all the little details. Don’t forget to read the two photo books made by owners telling you how they built the bunkhouse and all the sweet stories about people that live in the area. If at all possible we will be going back someday!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owners are very communicative and hospitable. This was my second time staying there and it was just as wonderful as I expected.
They make sure to send directions and to let you know during the booking process via email that it requires minimum ground clearance and is on gravel road and that it may be difficult for some vehicles to make it. They let me park my lowered Mazda Miata at the neighbors and offered to pick us up and drive us up to the Owls Perch. I declined that because the area is so beautiful that it was worth the walk up.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Alice who is extremely sweet. Inside, the room was spotless and there also were some homemade pastries in the kitchen waiting for us. One thing to note is that it is in a dry County so plan ahead.
I very much look forward to coming back a third time.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was a wonderful place to stay. Everything we needed. It felt like we were in a treehouse!
- Marcus (10/5): A hidden treasure - If Goldilocks ever find this little gem she’ll never leave! Everything about this place was absolutely perfect. From the moment I pulled up and was greeted by Alice and Doug (the owners/proprietors) I felt like a family member being welcomed in for a visit. The small one room cabin was rustic but everything was clean and comfortable and the bed was the kind that you just don’t want to get out of in the morning. Pay attention to the info on their website and bring your own supplies if
You want to eat here. This isn’t a hotel with continental breakfast , it’s a do it yourself place and that’s just fine. They provide flatware, utensils, a hot plate, toaster oven, coffee pot with coffee, tea and cocoa as well as basing condiments and sweeteners. I didn’t take photos of the main room and wish I had so I could share but, the other pics will give you an idea of how nice this place is. If you want an out of the way, quiet, comfortable, restful place to relax after trekking around the area (and there’s lots to do around here) this is the place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - we liked the quiet cozy warmth of the room. The area was beautiful and our hosts were wonderful. The only hard part of our stay for us was the drive into the home. We were on a motorcycle and the road was rough as it was dirt and gravel. Rather hard to drive a bike on especially in the rain. We were not expecting that. We would go again and stay but would use another vehicle.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Owl's Perch is a super clean, single room with well equipped kitchenette. The attention to details by the hosts, Alice and Doug, made us feel welcome and cared for. Alice's owl-themed decorative style was very aesthetically pleasing. The Native carved posts on the porch are a hoot. The highlight of the Perch was overlooking the Squally River as it cascades over huge boulders. The music of the flow is enchanting. You can see the river bed through the crystal clear waters. And with no foam, the white waters sparkle. Doug set up spot lights so guests can enjoy the river at night. We had a delightful experience and will come again.
- Tina (10/5): Best stay ever!! - The most peaceful trip we have ever taken! The owners are the kindest people who give the most superb service I have ever encountered. This place gives you time to decompress from daily life and focus on yourself. Everyone should experience that at least once in life!
- Dennis (10/5): EXCELLENT Stay!! - Our stay at The Owls Perch went above and beyond our expectations. The accommodations were very clean and were a hidden paradise. The owners were very helpful, nice and available for anything that you might have needed. I would highly recommend The Owls perch for any one looking to get away.
- DP (10/5): - Beautiful setting! Just as the photos show, perched right over a bubbling creek. Incredibly relaxing and peaceful. The owner was friendly, hospitable, & professional. Highly recommend.
