- DOUGLAS (6/5): - The lobby was so dirty. The tree was loaded with dust and dirt, not a good first impression. It was very expensive and no breakfast included. Missing a second luggage rack or space to put one.

- ross (10/5): - Awesome and best place to stay in Mexican Hat. We stayed 3 nights in eary Oct 2025 to enjoy the surrounding areas. It was well with it. And the pool, albeit to warm, was awesome too. Plenty of comfortable chairs and beautiful views. We will definitely remember this place and stay again next time we're in the area.

- Douglas (10/5): Perfect paradise minutes away from Monument Valley - Much better than it has any right to be! They've really taken what could have been a run-down old motel that exists and makes money solely due to its proximity to Monument Valley and stepped it up several notches. The rooms are spacious and clean, modestly updated, and best of all, they have a large pool and spa (open 24hrs) that overlooks a river. They've put in outdoor lighting and a wonderful little community space down by the edge of the river with a small basic grill to have a quaint little cookout while taking in the scenery. There are gentle walking trails down to the river's edge if you want to head down there and during our trip we saw a half a dozen fresh animal tracks in the silt. So cool.

Pool and hot tub were really nice with a view over the San Juan river. Only complaint is both ice me machines were broken. There is a gas station 100 yds up the road though.

The Views Are Amazing. Just down the road you can get access to the river to have a relaxing float. You have to eat at the Swingin’ Steakhouse. The steaks and burgers cooked to perfection.

- Olivier (2/5): - ⭐ 1/5 – A disastrous experience After driving over 300 km under scorching heat, all we wanted was to relax in a comfortable place. The photos online had sold us a dream: a clean, somewhat classy motel with a pool to unwind… What a disappointment! From the moment we arrived, we realized we’d been duped. The room was in a dreadful state: dirty towels, clear signs of previous guests, broken equipment everywhere. We don’t even want to imagine the last time it was cleaned. The night was a nightmare: constant noise, it felt like the walls were made of paper. No chance of getting any rest. And to top it all off: the pool was filthy and far too warm to be refreshing. Honestly, avoid this motel at all costs. It’s a total scam, nothing like what they show online. We would’ve been better off sleeping in the car.

I believe this was the only open motel in Mexican Hat when we stayed there and it proved to be an excellent jump off point for getting to Monument Valley in the morning as we were coming from Moab.

The room was comfortable, not 5 star comfortable but it was nice enough I didn’t really have any complaints about it. It had a nice pool and hottub!! The biggest selling point though was the view! It was spectacular! The red rock and the San Juan river worth the stay . Could it use a little updating? Sure but what hotel inn doesn’t?

If you are doing monument valley, bears ears national monument, or natural bridges NM, this is the best place to stay. Central to all of it. Will stay again.

- Ryan (10/5): Pleasant surprise - One of the best surprises I’ve had for a hotel. The room was fine but the river right behind and little view was a great bonus and the pool & hot tub were awesome! 8 miles to the famous view for monument valley which allows me to easily catch sunset and sunrise there. I would stay again. Only knock is the AC unit is tired and loud. I’m glad it wasn’t too hot when I stayed.

- JAMIE (6/5): - When we pulled up I thought - What did we just get ourselves in to? The outside looked rough, but once inside the room, it was updated and clean. However, Expedia said it had an on-site restaurant for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner- but it was not open and looked like it had not been open for a while. We were told there were 2 other restaurants in town, but one did not open due to cold weather - so there was only one option for dinner but closed early at 9:00pm - we barely made it. The site also had lots of details about the pool - and it looked really nice, but is was also not open due to cold temps, but the hot tub was also not open.

It was quiet and very close to Monument Valley at a reasonable price. I stayed 4 nights. Would definitely come back again.

- roundbarnfarm (8/5): Check it out - Our first stay in the area and hotel. The room itself was very nice with very comfortable beds, huge fluffy towels and four pillows per bed. Not many channels on TV but that was not surprising. The outside of hotel looks rough but we knew that from the reviews. I thought the price was a bit high for the time of year and lack of amenities. The view riverside is quite amazing In March the food options were very limited. The 7-11 gas station or the San Juan Inn cafe. The cafe had beef burritos or salad as your choices. Both were fresh and quite good. In the morning we planned to stop at the gas station and grab a sandwich BUT we happened to see a woman putting on sign on her car for burritos. So of course we stopped and got a wonderful fresh breakfast burrito in a homemade tortilla. So good!!’
- James (8/5): Nice Little Place - This was a comfortable little hotel in the middle of nowhere. The small community does have about anything you would need for an overnight stay. The surrounding landscapes are amazing. I would not hesitate to stay at this property again. The prices are a little steep, but that is to be expected considering the remote location and plentiful experiences in the area.

- 613bobw (8/5): Great place to stay in the area - As others have written " Don't judge a book by its cover". Well we followed this advice and we are happy we did. The outside is old and rustic looking with a gravel parking lot. Not much for curb appeal visually. We booked a room on the second floor facing the river and a king bed. We got what we reserved and the room was great. Not fancy but nicely done and clean. The outdoor pool is very good with a hot tub. It over looks the San Jaun river and is a treat to sit and enjoy the view. Be sure to go out at night and star gaze as there is very little light pollution. Its stunning. As for the area, there is lots to see in this part of Utah and we highly recommend visiting. Make the Hat Rock Inn and part of your visit.

- Neil (10/5): A little desert gem. - Wow! What an unassuming gem this hotel turned out to be. This turned out to be one of our favourite stays in the whole of our two week tour. Hat Rock Inn may not appear to be that glamorous from the outside, but the rooms are well sized and maintained. The location makes up for anything it may lack in glamour and the staff are fantastic and helpful. We unfortunately didn’t get to enjoy the beautiful pool but were informed by someone in it that it was indeed lovely. The reception staff were able to recommend the Mexican Hat Lodge restaurant, the Still Steaks. My goodness, that meal was astounding and the setting of a small roadside outdoor eatery was a perfect end to the day of road tripping through Arizona and into Utah. I’d absolutely love to stay at the Hat Rock Inn again.

They suggested the Mexican Hat Lodge for dinner, which was just down the road and had excellent food and atmosphere. Would definitely go back and stay a few days longer to relax and enjoy the area.

And they allowed longer hours for the pool than most hotels so we could watch the sun set and rise from the pool or hot tub over the absolutely stunning red rocks. There is not much in the area. The one place that was open for food served steak dinners and not much else but they were delicious and within walking distance of the hotel. There is no elevator, so request the first floor if you have mobility issues. We might plan a trip around just visiting this hotel again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ruined by smoke. Nothing in Mexican Hat. - The room was clean but ruined by having the smoke from campfires being sucked directly into the rooms AC. Could not breathe in the room. The pool area was really nice until a bunch of smoking guests started a cigar party right by the pool. If you can get a cheap rate and a "less desirable" room on the highway side may be worth it. Don't splurge on the upstairs Riverview room 😳

- Carol (10/5): - A great small hotal with lovely rooms just on the edge of the Navajo Nation. The pool was very nice. The hotel had comfortable lounges around the pool from which you could enjoy the desert views and the night sky.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - A basic place to stay while traveling. Inside is recently renovated and a very comfy bed. Overpriced for what you get, but it was full when we stayed. Amenities are good. Tough to find food. Bring a picnic.
