Guest Reviews
- Kelly (2/5): Don't make the same mistake! - Honestly, don't even know where to start it took 3 hrs to get the entry access information from the owner and 4 phone calls 2 to hotel.com /2 owner...this place was posted as $89 a night and than you get slapped with $112 service fees/taxes-really it was $212 a night. I'm not one to complain but this place needs to spend some $ invest in some new furniture, linens and towel ! Unacceptable part was the BLACK MOLD all over the bathroom. The comforter had 3 huge stains right on top, 4 towels only (crappy towels, not matching)pillows with no pillow cases! The walls dirty, the fans thick dust, closet was so dusty wouldn't even put my stuff in it! Literally spider webs inside windows. The blinds literally fell on my friends head. Let's not forget the horrible headaches we all got from the giant 5G box (electromagnetic sickness)-seriously uncomfortable beds- couches with cushions from some other couch, dirt and filth baseboards! nice owner but this is not what worth it
- Thomas (2/5): - Dirty and no parking.
- Paige (10/5): Cozy, home-like fee - The studio acted as the perfect homeaway from home for my roommates and I will we visited LA to go to NA LCS at Riot Games.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not staffed - apparently rarely visited by owner per neighbors. Unable to gain entry to property. Had to get another hotel on short notice.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great spot, not so great host - Great location, good set up (comfortable beds, kitchenette, bathroom). If you're not in the front house, parking is now a real issue. The only problem with this place is it's impossible to get in touch with anyone in management. The TV only works through Roku but there was no Roku remote. I tried to use my phone, but apparently the Roku is on a different wifi than the one they give you so you can't turn your phone into a remote. They will not call you back, they will not help at all with any questions past the info sheet you have to remember to ask for or they won't send it to you on how to get into the house, use the wifi, etc. Also, they will add a ridiculous amount on top of the advertised price. As such, it's really more an air bnb with no owner around or available for help than something you'd find on hotels.com
- Luca (2/5): - The communication with the landlord is dreadful. He seemed to have a "pre-written" LOOOOONG reply to all his guests. He sent this LOOOOONG copy-paste reply to me, using a passcode to enter the property that it wasn't working anymore. When we get to the property, we could not get in, which in the end it turned to be a good thing, as the place is infested by mosquitos. So we founded a nice hotel to spend our 4 days in Los Angeles, with much better infra-structure and cheaper!!! Also he lied saying that there is parking space which HAS NOT! The only available space is for the front property, not for the annex.
- SM (6/5): - Great location. Property and furnishings not in great shape
- Wanderer (4/5): - As this is a shed-like building in the back of the property, i didn’t feel safe, despite the n
- Tommmy (4/5): - I needed a door key code for this property. I had to get Travelocity involved to get a response from the hotel then the hotel finally emailed me the information I needed.
As soon as I entered the property I tripped over a 4" rise in the floor level.
The smoke detector battery was missing. Local Fire and Safety Codes require every room for rent to be equipped with a working smoke detector - This property is in violation of these Codes.
TV - Not worth watching with the ROKU/Sling TV setup they have. Why not have a Terrestrial Off The Air HD TV antenna set up so you could watch Network TV, Weather and Sports? And that is free for the owner. I missed the LA Dodgers Baseball World Series Playoff.
Wi-Fi - They offered 2 sources. The strong signal had no connectivity to the Internet. The signal which had Internet connectivity was so weak it was not worth using. I ended up using my iPhone as a hot-spot - At MY expense.
Air Conditioning - Did not work. It comes on every 10 minutes and runs exactly 16 seconds then shuts off.
Ice Maker - Did not work. It seems like it is not connected to the water supply.
Dimming lights - There are 5 bulbs on the main circuit - 4 bulbs would dim, but the 5TH bulb remains at full illumination. Go Figure!
On the plus side the property was clean and quiet, and the beds were very comfortable. A little more attention to details on the owner's part would make this a great place to stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was okay and served my purpose. Loved laundry! And the location.
- Paul (6/5): Nothing special, and a bit depressing. - So let me start by saying google maps will totally lead you to another street with exactly the same name a few miles away. That's really annoying, so beware!
So this little property is a guest cottage in the back of somebody's house in a typical kind of rundown L.A. neighborhood wedged between freeways. Yes there's an outdoor area with a barbecue and some chairs and a table or whatever. They strung some Christmas lights up, kind of sad. There's trash and recycling bins and cobwebs and an old car parked in the driveway and well, stuff like that. No offense it's just not a high quality kind of adventure. Fine if you're a more casual type, and I am provided it's the right casual, and this ain't. Also, it's not within walking distance of the beach, but of course being in walking distance to anything in LA is a long shot. So yeah I do love Santa Monica but basically, I'd stay elsewhere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): The LA Jewel - Comfortable, quiet and simple. Parking was not hard to get and we will be back. We enjoyed the cleanliness and the simplicity of the stay.
- adriana (10/5): Lovely studio near the beach - I stayed with my husband and daughter at the studio for 6 nights. We love it!
The house has good beds, big fridge laundry and everything to make your stay comfortable
We also used the barbaque
To improve: WiFi- signal at the studio is very poor.
- Kirk (6/5): OK-ish - Great neighborhood, and great pictures. However place was not clean, not well organized, and not as nice as the pictures represent. Overall, not terrible, but still far from advertised.
- jeffery (2/5): very poor and misrepresented. - the photo in the website is not the same as the property and the ad for the property says free parking but after renting you will get an email that its a bungalow at the back and you cant go on the drive way and you cant park as well.
you have to go to the side street to park the vehicle and the ad says premium bedding but in fact its a very uncomfortable piece of foam on springs so its quiet uncomfortable.
pillows are bad as well.
the floor is dirty and non carpeted so you cannot roam around bare footed.
- G-Go (4/5): Lack of space, not quite Santa Monica - Lack of space for more than 2 people, beds are too big for the place and extremely noisy. The place is close to Santa Monica, 3 metro stations away. Backyard, BBQ conditions very poor, terrible chairs to sit on, no grass. Possibly OK for younger travellers looking for a budget, however still expensive for what it offers.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Absolutely perfect location and size, thank you! Will probably be back, would definitely like the separate info to contact for friends.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Horrible stay. Please read these warnings. - I think it would be great to stay in the house. Here are the issues we had with being in the back.
1. The photos border on fraud, making the room look like there's space to move. This is a room that should have 1 bed, not 2.
2. There wasn't enough cutlery.
3. There weren't enough dishes.
4. There weren't enough towels, and the ones present were old and dingy.
5. The A/C until was inadequate, so the room was always muggy.
6. The linens were still in the dryer when we got there.
7. The area outside the entry was filthy, but the photos make it look like you can have people over for barbecues.
8. People in the back are not allowed to park there, not even on the street in front of the house. You are relegated to a side street that isn't even adjacent. You do get the parking privilege to load and unload, though.
9. We were scrambling to be out by 11 because we were cleaning it up a little. My husband closed the door at 11:05 just as the cleaning crew pulled up to block our exit. A little punishment for not leaving soon enough? The kids and I were in the driveway with the open-trunked car, too, so that move seemed quite unnecessary.
10. We forgot to log out of Netflix, and no one logged us out. People continued to watch with our account. It should be standard for all Netflix-enabled properties to double-check for guest logout, understanding the possible chaos of the checkout process.
Our whole trip was negatively affected by this rental.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Interesting place - One of the worst communicators on our entire trip to So. California. We had to reach out to the owner MULTIPLE times before he FINALLY sent us our check-in information just prior to arrival. It caused unnecessary stress for us while on vacation.
- Pierre (8/5): Nice little house in Santa Monica - I needed an inexpensive place to stay in Santa Monica, CA for one night. When I searched the hotels.com I found a special rate of $99. After entering my cc info I was shocked to see a total of $213. Buried in the fine print is a tax fee of $113. Worst part... it was non refundable! After using Hotels.com for many years I was very disappointed with their lack of clearly posting their “Special Rates.”
- Verified traveler (2/5): Dirty & uncomfortable - 1. The picture shows the main house but the property is in the backyard
2. When we entered the room, the bed was not done. Looks like someone before slept and then left and no cleaning was done.
3. Trash was not cleared in the kitchen and restroom.
4. The bed is extremely soft and you sink in and your back hurts the next day.
Highly recommend to look for a different place so your trip stays memorable.
- Aja' (10/5): - JEWEL is an absolute jewel! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, as it is an oasis. The location was perfect, as it is conveniently located near Santa Monica and close to shops. I will most certainly return. Thank you for a beautiful stay JEWEL.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Watch out - This "hotel" does not fit everyone. Well situated but beware of the strong cancellation policy.
A simple gardenhouse in a not so well taken care of garden was our first impression.
For more than 2 persons, the space will be to small. Only a small table with two tablechairs. The kitchen was poorly equiped, with a bad stove and only one saucepan for cooking. No teaspoons and dinnerknifes or slicers and more.. Only two tumblers, 2 koffecups and so on. The beds were creaky and slips in the frontdoor. We had to take care of laundry from the former guest and was asked to wash our bedding before leaving. We will not return to this accommodation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place! - We stayed here while on a college tour trip. This place was perfect for our family. Quiet neighborhood, Walking distance to several restaurants, and very comfortable beds. Would definitely recommend staying here and look forward to staying here again if we come back to visit.
- Amber (10/5): Hidden Gem - A little hidden gem! I had an early doctors appointment down the road and this was the perfect location. The owner was very nice and helpful. I felt very safe and the room was clean and well maintained. It has a little kitchen, bathroom, even a washer/dryer. Will definitely be staying again when I need to be in LA!
- S (4/5): Disappointing :( - We were really excited to stay here because the reviews were so good. The directions sent in an email were really good and we arrived super late with no problem to enter. We stayed in the back yard bungalow, not the main house. When we walked inside we were greeted with a very strong mildew smell. The bathroom was very old ,not clean and the shower spewed water all over the floor. There was laundry left in the dryer even. I am very disappointed with this accommodation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It's a great place if travelling with family. You have a nice little home of your own just like at home.
Just a few things to note that we did not like: the WiFi was slow.
The washmachine did not clean well. (I tried all the settings).
- Penny (10/5): Lovely house, lovely neighborhood - The house was exactly as described and pictured. Ron was immediately available by phone, cheerful, and helpful. Excellent value.
- Doreen (4/5): Be Aware No Parking For Rear Studio Accommodation - We left Australia 3 weeks earlier and no access to Emails after leaving Australia. However information regarding entry into the property and parking should have been sent as soon as full payment was made. We arrived at the property and were unable to get in contact with the owner. After contacting Expedia the eventually were able to read me the Emails ( Expedia were exceptional in their help) It took us 2 hours before we entered the property. We were not aware we could not use the driveway, this is only allocated to the front house, parking for rear was street parking but not the street the property was located. Unable to park in driveway we parked in front of the property at 12pm and received a $68 fine at 5.30am as we didn't see the restrictions. The property had so much debris on the entrance porch no one had taken the time to sweep. The air-conditioner in the living area had been turned off at the power point behind the TV we were unaware as the remote didn't work due to this so we spent a couple of uncomfortable nights before we saw this. There was food rubbish left in the kitchen bin. There was no knives and very little eating crockery. No frying pan for the BBQ and a strong smell of gas when the BBQ was turned on. I did think the washer and dryer combination was a great idea and worked well. If we come to LA again I will have to consider the front house only.
- anso (10/5): Clean and quiet studio - Good location, quiet and safe neighborhood, very clean bungalow.
- Ryan (10/5): Just what was needed - The sace was convient, private, had good instructions and a good value. I’d gladly stay again.
- Marie (6/5): Not a hotel but a studio behind a house - This is not a hotel but more like an Airbnb place. it is a separate building behind a house about 20 minutes from the beach, It is a 5 minutes walk to the new Metro line and for $1.75 you can go anywhere in LA. The room is small with a kitchen, 2 queen beds, a table. Kitchen has a full-size frig/freezer,microwave, DW and some dishes. Parking is on the side streets.
There is no staff
- mJ (8/5): - Nice room, clean big enough for 1 or 2 people. The mattress was a little on the firm side for my liking and squeeked everytime I moved. Parking was difficult to locate, as the driveway is only available for the front house. On check-oit day the people in front house blocked the exit throigh the driveway so it made it a little difficult to load my own luggage and belongings. Has a spacious patio with BBQ available. The patio is shared with the front house and on the last night the people staying at the front house had a party with 10+ guests and were incredibly noisy and every single noise could be heard in my room. Overall the room was nicely kept and was more comfortable than a hotel room would have been.
- Oscar (8/5): - Great little cottage behind the main house, the driveway is a bit dark and needs motion lighting
Parking is an issue, Place was nice and cozy. Way too many instructions and they want you to do their laundry when you leave is a bit too much.. but overall OK.
- Carmella (10/5): A jewel for sure. - Great location and very pleasant stay. I would stay again.
- Dan (10/5): amazingly comfortable! - I loved every part of the stay there!
- sarah (10/5): a relaxing and convenient getaway - this is a minimal space that is located in the most convenient part of LA that has all necessary utilities on site. I am grateful for the stay.
- Dave (10/5): Nice place right in the middle of everything - Quiet residential neighborhood that you can drive in one direction and be at the best beach in minutes. Go in the other direction you are in Beverly Hills. The room is very clean as if personal care were taken to clean and stock the room with what you needed. Loved it. I was a little worried that it did not have a dedicated parking space but was always able to find a space on either Tennessee or Carmelina everytime. I will stay there again.
- Carlos (8/5): Staying in the Hood - It's hard to rate this place since it's not a motel, nor a daily apt. condo rental since that's not what it is. It's a house with bungalow in a Santa Monica neighborhood. That's not a bad thing, but one needs to that in mind that its a single-family dwelling when searching for the place ... and don't try enteringS Wellesley ... its just Wellesley on any GPS. You'll get instructions v.v. property entry, finding the key, where to park -- a pain when for the walking impaired (I suppose a placard would have been exempted by police), very light cleanup duties when done e.g toss both towels in washer (presumably to ensure balanced load). The neighborhood seems safe although a bit run down. All in all, an acceptable place to crash for a night.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice stay - Central location, quiet and comfortable. Nice stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice, safe and convinent place. It is a cute studio with a patio.
- Kyung (8/5): Convenient, well located cottage. - The cottage in the back of the main house was clean, with new appliances, including a washer and dryer, a great shower and nice little kitchen. The beds were comfortable and we could sleep with the windows open for fresh air. The backyard is a bit unkept and could be much more attractive, but that did not interfere with our stay other than not being visually appealing at first sight. The booking site creates confusion by having both the main house and cottage on the site and not making it too clear which was which. I thought I was booking the two bedroom home and t was lucky that our third traveler was not with us.
- adrianna (10/5): - Our family stayed here for my moms surgery at UCLA. It was a great location and a comfy place to relax before a big day.
- Robert (6/5): Small guest house efficiency - I did not get the check in instructions until after 330 pm. It was late and had to sit outside the house until I received that. After that my stay was good. The accommodations were efficient and clean. Definitely not a luxury place but not slumming either. It was decent and peaceful.
- DeAnne (10/5): Great Beach/Universal Studio Weekend - Thank you, this location and bungalow was perfect. The location could not have been any better, walking distance to lots of things. We ran into the next renters while we were packing, we gave them our printed information and gave them some parking tips. My only possible suggestion would be in the notes to let people know about the step up after the entrance of the front door. We got in late so it was very dark, my daughter had her hands full so she went to put things down before turning on the lights and almost fell over the first little step. Thankfully she hit the bed and she was fine. We enjoyed the patio and out side seating area, great to unwind after our long drive. Thanks again for getting our mini vacation off to such a good start. We will definitely be back if we are going to be in the area. Thank you, DeAnne
- Verified traveler (10/5): A Home Away From Home - We are a family of four with two little ones under the ages of three. The villa was just the right size for us; we felt right at home . The neighborhood was very nice and quiet. The location of the villa is close to everything we needed and there was plenty of space for my extended family to visit us during our stay. I would definitely stay again.
- James (4/5): Not a Jewel - Cute back yard guest house from outside. Inside was two mattresses on the floor. Room smelled like mold. Pulled down sheets on one bed and two baby spiders were running around on the bed sheets. TV did not work at all. Guest in front house had same issue. Owner was nice about our request to cancel and said he would also call pest control and look into mold smell and have TV cable looked at.
- Dick (6/5): Quiet neighborhood - No mattress on hide-a-bed. Half of dining room lights not working. Bottom panel of stove fell off unto floor. No serving bowls or towels in kitchen. Bathroom window not able to be locked. No washcloths in bathroom. Limited instructions on how to access television channels. Small window in master bedroom closet open, didn't close. Back yard furniture could not be used, table dirty, chairs dirty & full of sticks. Didn't have contact information in event of house emergency.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great little house close to everything. - House was very convenient to freeways, stores, and restaurants YET the neighborhood was totally quiet. There were no issues at all with noise or traffic inside the house. (except the noisy water heater)The yard was landscaped and lovely as well. There were two full bedrooms, large kitchen and eating area, and nice adequate living room to hang out it. The two beds (queen and king) were very nice. Heat worked great (it was cold out when we were there) . only odd thing was that the sofa beds were not usable as beds. They did not have mattresses, only springs. If you had some sort of foam pad or mattress to put on top, they would work. The furniture was great, other than that.
- Emily (10/5): Clean And Convenient - This place was a perfect fit for our stay. Easily housed up to 8 people with its two rooms and two pull out bed/couches. Perfect location close to Venice, Santa Monica and not too far from LA. Full kitchen as well as dining area and back yard bbq area.?Clean and convenient
