Kristine (9/5): It was a relaxing and fun stay. - We loved that there is access to the beach from the resort. We watched the sunset there on our first day. The carpets can be updated or change it to hardwood floors but love rustic feels of the building.

Har-el (8/5): Decent place to stay at, but better for golfers - Stayed here for the Labour Day long weekend. I knew full well that I'd have more to do there had I golfed. Facilities are good, as well as the room. The bed was very comfortable. One complaint about the room is that the balcony looked out onto an embankment of trees blocking much of the view of the course. The breakfast and lunch/dinner options were good, but pricey. The dinners were more worth it at Dave's Pub, but I only had the breakfast buffet once as the cost dodn't justify the selection. The major complaint I have with Dave's Pub was the service. The first meal had decent service, but not the second one. It felt I was being hurried up a little bit. Lastly, the private beach was good. The sand was soft and the water was cold, but shallow. Overall, good, but not great. If I stay again, I'd eat my meals elsewhere.
Ruchi (3/5): Not a hygienic place to book. - The rooms literally stink, carpets were having bugs and very old.Behind the bed there were lot of spider webs.No microwave in the room , no chairs ,sofas to sit. I do not recommend this resort.

Doug (6/5): - The property itself is beautiful and well kept. The rooms could use a facelift along with the outdated furniture. Upon checking in, we were told at 3:30 to come back at 4:00. I asked if we could do the check in now and come back at 4:00 for the room key but that was denied. I came back at 4:00 along with a room full of other guests. We finally got checked in about an hour later. They need more staff or a change of policies!!!

Petra (7/5): Zwischenstation am Lake Huron in schöner Lage - Sehr gute Lage am Lake Huron mit Privatstrand. Die Zimmer waren groß und alles war soweit sauber und okay. Dave‘s Grill und Pub bietet als Teil des Resorts die typischen Speisen an und wir waren mit dem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis dort ganz zufrieden.

Verified traveler (10/5): One night at the oakwood resort - Rooms are a bit dated but nice and clean as a whistle. The resort is very nice and the atmosphere is pleasant and upscale.Breakfast buffet was good but I was a bit disappointed that there was no decals coffee and no oatmeal for us of advanced years. Would definitely stay again.

Francesco (6/5): - This resort has great potential thanks to its beautiful location and layout, but it falls short in key areas. The facilities are outdated, many areas are poorly maintained, and overall cleanliness is lacking. It’s extremely overpriced for what’s offered. One of the biggest issues is accessibility—there are no elevators, no ramps, and many places are difficult or impossible to access for guests with disabilities or special needs. Families with mobility-impaired or neurodivergent children will find many parts of the resort challenging or unsafe. Additionally, there are no dietary accommodations, and the staff isn’t equipped to handle food allergies or restrictions. That said, the staff were friendly, professional, and genuinely tried to help within the limitations of the resort itself. With serious upgrades and a commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, this place could be amazing. But as it stands, it’s not worth the high price for guests who need modern, clean, and accommodating facilities.

Rosa (4/5): - The hotel needs a huge Reno and for the price they are charging it’s a complete rip off. Our original room had carpet that was damp snd smelled and the bathroom was moldy with cob webs. We switched rooms to the main lodge and it was a bit better because the floor was laminate and no pealing and moldywallpaper in the bathroom. The staff was amazing and I feel bad that they have to put up with multiple complaints. Never saw any management on the property. The only thing they have going is that they have a private beach access. For those people that do not want to fight the crowds at Grand Bends main beach it is a good location. Much better options for Grand Bend. Would not stay there again.

Behnaz (2/5): - One of the worst experiences for the most expensive one night stay I have ever had and I am a global traveller. This place is a very old, run down lodge not worth $480 per night plus 7% resort fees plus 13% taxes. The pictures do not justify its ugliness. Though it depends on your expectations and experiences. The only positive point is its location to the main street and it's private beach. Staff, specially the so called supervisor are rude and treat you very differently if you are of minority. Our room was not ready at check-in and was not ready at the stated check-in time of 4 p.m. the excuse was that room is still not ready and the housekeeping was behind. At 5:30 when I complained, the so called supervisor blamed me for booking the room the day of. Can you believe that? I booked the place in the morning via Expedia and check-in at 2 p.m. the so called supervisor was blaming me for their room not being ready for the 4:00 p.m. check-in time as their own policy and was unhappy that I was aggetatand and upset for her gas lighting me. The other admin who helped us to find out that our room was still not ready at 5, provided us late check out; however the so called supervisor was making me feel like she did it. When we got to the room, only one key was working, not enough towels for all of us, only one soap, nothing else and the toilet seat, well let me tell you how bad that was. I am sure with the amount of money they charge they can afford to change their toilet seats.

Jeff (6/5): - We paid $600 for our room mid week for one night. It was what you would expect for a room half the price. I wanted to get to the room an hour early and was unable to. The room was tired looking with patio doors that were damaged and hard to open. The bed was nice. There was a living room that had a somewhat comfortable couch. The towels were small and scratchy .There was a fridge, coffee maker and microwave, but the coffee maker in a room off the bathroom, and the microwave on the desk, meaning I had to bend over awkwardly to use it. Not exactly a kitchenette. There was not a vending machine on our floor, the carpets were badly stained on the staircases and stairwells. There was a pub on the grounds but nowhere for finer dining. It is not that the stay was bad or unacceptable. But there are better places to go for that price

No microwave option included, charged $25 for the very old microwave. Room was not cleaned and towels not changed, stayed 2 nights on the long weekend. No washrooms on the private beach, even portable, 10 minutes walk to the room, clearly no one used the room's washroom, when on the beach. PRICE FOR THE ROOM IS OVERCHARGED.
Vi (8/5): - Stayed at the Pine Lodge. Love this property, kids wish we stayed another couple more days. The only concerns we had was the room we stayed in had some kind of maybe machine going off and we heard the water thru the pipes from the top floor. Dave’s Pub dinning, recommend to call for reservation as it’s not a huge place. But aside from that it was a good stay, we may do it again in the future.
Karen (8/5): - Great location - quiet and there was always somewhere to park. We unfortunately didn't try the onsite restaurant but will when we return. This was our first visit to the Oakwood but we have been many times to Grand Bend. It was a great location that we would happily return to. The rooms were a bit run down. The washrooms could have used some renovations but it was functional. We went to the pool and enjoyed the private beach. It was a very nice trip! Nothing fancy, but it was very enjoyable and we were able to walk both along the beach, and along the highway to go back and forth to the main area in Grand Bend. I would return!
Nancy (8/5): - Oakwood Inn had a private beach to walk to. The city beach was overcrowded and hard to get a parking spot. That, was a big advantage. But,They need to do more for their customers that need help getting to the beach. Plus it was hard to sleep with dogs barking and noisy neighbors in the hotel.

Gillian (2/5): - The mildew smell in the room hit you when you opened the door and everything was damp (carpet, bed, couch). They put us in an adjoining room and there was a barky dog. The tv remote didn’t work. We checked out early after one night and they didn’t apologize, offer us a different room or offer us a refund. So disappointing because we have not had any complaints of our stays in the past.

Elizabeth (6/5): - Oakwood Inn was just OK. Certainly not a 4 star hotel. Rooms were comfortable like a dated rustic lodge, which was kind of nice and added to the overall feel of the place. It could do with a little TLC and attention to detail in the cleanliness department. Maybe wash the windows and sweep off the sitting areas occasionally. Our first room smelled so bad of stale cigarette smoke we asked to be switched. They say " no smoking" in the rooms but I am not sure they really do anything about it. The whole 1st floor of our Lodge reeked of it Unfortunately, the dining room where breakfast is served is crawling with carpenter ants. Speaking of buffet breakfast, it is not that great. Chewy bacon, powdered eggs, frozen begium waffles, instant oatmeal.... I have had better at a Super 8 or Comfort Inn. Very disappointing. Dave's Pub was very good, though. Deanne was great and she and her coworkers work their butts off with a smile on their face. Shout out to Robin at the front desk. She is super helpful and knowledgeable. Overall, this is a decent place to stay, but is not worth the 4 star rating and a little overpriced for what you are getting. Unless you are looking for somewhere quiet, close to the beach and within walking distance of downtown.

Denise (7/5): No Elevator - Loved the chalet style room with the outdoor space. The beautiful beach is a 5 minute walk through a lovely private road. The main premises do not have a lift and we were not advised of this beforehand. We were originally assigned a room on the third floor and had to pay extra to switch to a room on the ground floor.

Suzanne (4/5): - We were disappointed with our experience. The amount of stairs was an issue. Stairwell was hot and carpets were stained. Banister was wobbly. Upgrading is definitely needed. Beach area was full of debris. Complementary breakfast is not offered. Buffet style breakfast is $30. I've stayed in less expensive places that offered at least continental breakfast included with stay. Dave's pub was nice with good food. Pool was nice but in need of a cleaning. Not worth the money.☹️
Susana (4/5): - Checked in at 4 after 1 hour coming back from the swimming pool there was no bath towels just half of the toilet paper. We were 4 in the room and you charged for that!!! Called and after 2 hours situation was the same! I called nobody answered in the guest service!!! The swimming pool no clean towels too The washroom seats broken ! No recommend no coming back
Maria (8/5): It should have the pool open for later time . - It was very clean and comfortable The bathroom was not clean and had to keep asking for clean towels and also the toilet was loose when seating down kept moving, the air conditioner kept going off was on for like and hour and then off and had to turn it on all the time and was not cool , room was hot .
Lesley (6/5): - Access to the beach was amazing! Staff at the front desk upon check-in were welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately the pool was dirty and there weren’t enough chairs to even sit around the pool. Stayed in Pine lodge which was so loud listening to all the people in the hall way. A/C hardly worked and carpets throughout the pine lodge were so stained and gross.

Resort had amenities on site Our lodge smelt of cigarette smoke but was clean. It would have been nice if there were a walking path around the property

The public beach is very crowded, so it was nice to able to have room for the kids to play. Great staff, breakfast. Family friendly. Outside the rooms (hallways, stairs) was very hot.
Skye (4/5): - I love to give people and places the benefit of the doubt, but after I experienced this “resort” this week, I can confirm all of the negative reviews are true. Is the staff pleasant? Yes, of course, and it’s certainly not their fault this place is completely run down and understaffed. My family has owned a multitude of successful businesses and establishments. I’ve also been able to personally travel and experience a plethora of lodges, resorts & hotels. I encourage the owner of Oakwood to do the same. Let’s get into the specifics: -rooms aren’t just dated, they are DIRTY -yes, I knew there would be no house keeping, but not even taking the garbage, recycling or providing cleaning towels without asking 2-3 times in the same day?? -has a “private beach” but no option to rent towels, chairs, umbrellas or even water crafts -has dog friendly rooms however places families with kids and adults who don’t like dogs next door to you, oh and god forbid your dog barks- noise complaint. -you can hear everything. Both neighbours on each side, and especially those above. -absolutely no one at the counter at checkout This resort needs a MEGA refresh and it’s totally achievable, but you need to LOCK IN. Please invest. Please consider bringing in actual experienced management that cares about the customer experience. What a shame it would be for this piece of Canadian property to go to waste.

thuy (6/5): - The price is WAY too high. The rooms are old/outdated, the ads say there is continental breakfast when there is NOT, it even stated that there was breakfast on your room key card. There is an extra 7% 'resort fee' PER DAY that we were not aware of until we got the bill. The tv (in our room ) was smaller than my desk top computer screen. The mini fridge was slightly on a tilt and hard to open. Upon check in we informed the man we no longer required the microwave and to please remove the $25 fee from our room. When we got the bill, they never took off the $25 and had to call to make it happen. I am still not clear on how this is considered a "resort". The only positive for us, was the private beach. If paying $500+ for two nights is worth a private beach, then this place is for you. We will not be returning.
Omeir (6/5): - The whole room felt a bit dated. The washroom fixtures were from the early 2000s. The TV was small relative to the room size and the colour hue showed its age. There was dust and dirt behind the table, bed, wall corners and edges of the room. Given the rating and price of the hotel, I expected much better.

No beach access for disabled - Lovely grounds Well shaded Fabulous beds Not accessible- distance to beach could be reached by golf cart which I didn’t know when I walked the few blocks to water. No one with a walker, cane or even a scooter could get down to the beach!! Independence is so very important for folks with disabilities. Most would not want to be assisted to sand. Suggest a switchback kind of ramp down to sand then an accessible patio “to provide a scooter or wheelchair-accessible walkway to a sand beach, consider using beach access mats like Mobi-Mats or AccessMats. These roll-out pathways create a stable surface for wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers to traverse the sand” For example: https://www.mobi-mat-chair-beach-access-dms.com/ada-roll-out-walkway-access-mat/ We tried to go into Grand Bend to check accessibility but WAY TOO CRAZY BUSY.

Alison (6/5): Great location but poor wifi and lack of housekeeping - Excellent location with private access to the beautiful beach Room was much larger than expected and bathroom was huge! Wifi was very poor (one bar on signal and just kept dropping - could not even open a web page) We stayed 3 nights and there was no housekeeping at all!?? Like no towels changed, no bed made, not even the coffee pods replaced in the room. When I asked at front desk she just said they don’t have turn down service (I wasn’t looking for a chocolate on the pillow) but for $400 a night I would hope not to have to reuse the same wet towel for days!
Paul (8/5): - nice place.... they call it a 'resort' which I guess it is and if you are a golfer, it has a nice golf course. The pool and sauna advertised is just ok. Private beach is a bit of a walk, but very nice. Easy access to the town and all those amenities. So we were happy there, but a bit pricy if you are not a golfer. Rooms are nice and clean, service was good. Good restaurant on-site (Daves Pub).
